This book is one that was needed at this time. Deborah Diesen bring the topic of worry and how to deal with it to the table without added worry. I listened to this book with my 6 yr old a day after the tragic shooting in Texas. This book allowed us to talk and open communication and for her to have some coping skills. This is a book schools should have and mental health workers.
My family has loved reading the Pout-Pout Fish series since my children were toddlers and this newest installment absolutely met our high expectations. The Pout=Pout Fish and the Worry-Worry Whale is an important and timely message about how to deal with anxiety and worry that is important for both children and caregivers.. To be honest, I’ve been repeating the refrain from this book that “Worry tells us stories but not all of them are true” to myself since we read this book last week.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this audiobook for review.
I was interested in reading this book since I teach self-regulation to my students and I’m always looking for mentor texts. This book deals with worry and Mr. Fish gives advice to Willa Whale on how to deal with that emotion. The story also touches a bit on social anxiety. I’m adding this book to my box of mentor texts.
I really liked this follow-up to the original Pout Pout Fish book! I use these books in speech-language therapy with patients, and the Worry Worry Whale is a great tool for discussing feelings and responses. Would recommend to parents or anyone working with children!
Adorable addition to the Pout Pout line up of books! My 3 and 7 year old very much enjoyed the narration, 3 year old has asked to listen to it again and again. The audio is a nice change from mom or dad reading! Absolutely would recommend. Thank you to Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Young Listeners and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to the audio ARC!
I listened to this audiobook with my seven-year-old, who is a big fan of the Pout-Pout Fish. When we finished the book, I asked her what she thought. She gave me two thumbs up and said, "It was very good!" More importantly, while we were listening, she said, "I feel like that, too!" when the Worry-Worry Whale talked about how big her worries felt. This is another fantastic addition to the series!
We are a huge fan of the Pout-Pout Fish so this title caught my eye! We listened to it twice in the car and it definitely caught the attention of my 3 and 5 year olds. My older child worries a lot so I think the topic resonated with her. I really appreciated how the author explained what worrying is AND how to combat it. Will definitely be listening regularly!
My kids LOVE the Pout Pout Fish series. In this one, Pout Pout Fish helps his whale friend when they have a lot of anxiety about going to a party. It resonates with children who suffer with anxiety or excessive worry (like mine). It is explained in a way kids can relate. It helps show how they can work through their anxiousness.
My kids gave it four stars.
We will be adding this to our Pout Pout Fish collection when it comes out. Thank you to Macmillan Audio for providing an advanced copy for my honest review.
My son and I love the Pout Pout fish books. This story was exactly what I was hoping. I plan on using it with my son grows and there are times he is worried or anxious. The narration and sound effects were great!
Pout-Pout Fish is a favorite in this house so I was excited to see there was a new book releasing. In "The Pout-Pout Fish and the Worry-Worry Whale" young readers are introduced to emotions and feelings in a relatable way. Pout-Pout Fish helps Willa the Whale work through the worries about the get together with techniques that can be used at any age and in most situations! I listened to the audio version of this book in which the narrator had a smooth voice, changing it for each character. I could envision the scenes in my mind with my last knowledge of The Pout-Pout Fish illustrations Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
I listened to this with my 6-year-old twins; one of whom has some anxiety issues. They both sat enraptured as we listened to the worries Whale had in going to the party. At the end one of my twins said, “that was an excellent book.” It really was helpful to put words to anxiety and worry and say it is okay to have those feelings. But, not to let those feelings stop you from doing fun things is what my kiddos took away from this book. I would highly suggest this book for anyone who has a little with some extra worry or anxiety.
The Pout-Pout Fish and the Worry-Worry Whale is a cute tale of a whale who is facing some big emotions, namely anxiety. Through this book the worry-worry whale faces some situations that make it nervous and builds a toolbox of ways to handle their nerves and anxiety. I listened to this with my 6 & 8 year old and it was the perfect opportunity to discuss after listening. We talked about how they can use the same techniques as the worry-worry whale.
They both gave it "the most stars possible" and given the chance to turn it into a learning moment and a moment to connect I agree with their ratings.
A true gem for little ones struggling with the big emotions of worry and anxiety. Willa Whale gets a lesson calming lesson in eradicating her worries by Mr. Fish. Breathing and mindset are confidence builders in this quick and adorable read. The narration of the audiobook version, provided by Fred Berman is quite animated and entertaining and conveys the story well.

This is another cure Pout Pout story about a whale who worries about going to a party and fitting in. Pour pour encourages her and finally get ya her to go and she ends up being able to come out of her shell. I loved the story and the narrator was great, the rhyming helped to move it along. Great listen! My toddler loved it and was giggling throughout,
I love when children's stories address real concerns that children may face, and this one does it well. Anxiety and worry are prevalent among children, particularly in the times we are living in, and I'm so glad that there are authors who try to find ways to help them. I found this story helpful and entertaining. I plan to use this book in my classroom and will check into others in the Pout Pout Fish series. I look forward to experiencing more of this authors work. Well done.
An excellent, short children's book about a worried whale. Fish and Whale are friends who are going to a party, but Whale is full of worries. Although the book is short, it provides concrete strategies for getting through anxiety. Some of the strategies include: focusing on one thing, make a plan, find a friend, and breathing through the anxious feelings. My favorite line was, "worry tells us something, but not all worries are true." It's a great thing to remember when talking about these feelings with a child. This would be perfect for a preschool child who tends to worry. The audiobook was wonderful and calming. I loved the narration and undersea sound effects.
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for providing this audiobook ARC. All thoughts are my own.
In this book, the Pout-Pout Fish introduces us to his friend, Willa, the Worry-Worry Whale. The PPF has been a fav of mine for years and I think the addition of Willa can really help kids deal with anxiety. This will be one of my top recommendations along with Tom Percival’s series, Big Bright Feelings. I’m so glad we are giving anxiety the attention that is so needed and giving kids the tools to overcome.❤️ Will be buying this as a physical copy as soon as it’s available.
This was such a great book for my 4 year old. She already loves the Pout Pout Fish and this was a great way to talk about how feeling worried is ok sometimes.

Pout Pout fish is a favorite in my house! My son thinks he is hilarious. He really enjoyed listening to the narrator talk about Mr. Fish helping his whale friend. This is a great tool to help open up discussions about emotions, specifically worrying with your little one.
We will definitely be adding this to our pout pout fish collection of books!

I received a copy of the audiobook for this picture book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I imagine that the audio would be accompanied by the picture book. The time length comes in at about 6 minutes.
This is such a great topic for children. Addressing emotional regulation is so important and can be difficult to address as a parent. Having a book to use with examples is an excellent tool. The situations were very relatable and the advice practical and useful but not overwhelming.
