“The Bodyguard” by Katherine Center
Truly a MUST Read
This is a sizzling sweet clean tear-jerking laugh-out-loud contemporary romance, that’s so FUN, I just did not want to press pause on the listening app. I was feeling a wee bit down, but this story had me finding my smiling-self. I can vouch for the audiobook, and I hope the e-book or paper edition will be a great read, too! I had a difficult time getting this audio edition downloaded to my phone app.. I almost gave up.. but my niece helped me solve the issue and I am one very happy camper and grateful for the hours I spent within this story. Not only was this a fun read but I gleaned some good advice, too! Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: This review expresses my honest opinion.
I received an early audiobook copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

📖 My Review: What a GREAT romantic comedy! Lovable main characters & laugh out loud moments made this joy to listen to. The narrator Patti Murin is wonderful as well.
This was my first Katherine Center book & I must say the writing is fantastic. The role reversal of the female being the bodyguard was a fun twist not to mention the superstar falling for the average girl! If romantic comedies are your genre then I highly recommend The Bodyguard.
Thank you to #NetGalley, Katherine Center & Macmillan Audio for this ARC. This is my voluntary review.
The Bodyguard is a charming role-reversal contemporary romance. (The female main character is the bodyguard). I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, Patti Murin is excellent. There's even a little bit of peril right at the end. Both characters have some unresolved issues they need to work through with the help of the other character. Hannah is no nonsense, often unintentionally funny, as well as an ass kicker. The setting for much of the book is Jack's parent's Texas ranch. Hannah and Jack pass their days with long walks by the river, enjoying the tire swing, riding the retired circus horse, and spending time with Jack's family. Jack and his brother are estranged, and the reason is explained late in the book. Center uses the "fake girlfriend" trope (which everyone seems to be using right now), but it works. If you need a book that's like a warm hug, go for this one!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing this audiobook for my honest review.
I am very picky with my romance novels, but I am so glad this cover grabbed my attention and I gave it a try. This novel is delightful! The banter between the MCs, as well as with other characters, is hilarious and heart-warming. The plot is interesting but very low stress and without any angst, which makes it a perfect mellow rom-com read with plenty of laughs. I highly recommend you give it at try!
Thanks to Netflix and the publisher for giving me access to the audio book for review purposes.
Thank you Netgalley, author, and publisher for the ARC of this book!
I really enjoyed this book a lot! I laughed out loud a few times and found the banter between the two main characters really funny. I loved the family so much!! It was such a good book except for the last few minutes. I didn't like that there was a jab at gun control and how the person was still able to but one even though they said what they were buying it for. That would NEVER happen! It was unneeded and changed my love for the book. I don't like when authors try to push/slip in their views on readers in lighthearted books. If I wanted that I'd read a book for that....
I really enjoyed the audio version of this rom-com and found myself laughing out loud. The book was about a women bodyguard (loved this) who was put on assignment to protect a very, very famous movie star while he helps his sick mother. I love a famous person falling in love with a “normal” person trope, so would definitely recommend this as a beach read when it comes out July 19th!
Yeah, I loved this. It was sooooo good. It was such a unique premise, and I loved that Hannah really stood on her own as a character. I think I just really love celebrity/"normal" people romances. It was also very funny, which I feel like is hard to achieve without being too cringy. There were so many things I loved about this book but I feel like the main thing was Jack. We love a hot horse boy celebrity actor who is SO CARING to the heroine. I also really loved how thee third act conflict wasn't caused by miscommunication/the characters but something out of their control. I feel like the only thing that would have just made the book even better is if we got Jack's POV.
Cleverly written clean rom com that pulls on all the heart strings! I loved Hannah’s character as a strong female workaholic badass bodyguard, and I adored Jack’s family time at the ranch. The pacing, plot, action, and emotion in this book were all a perfect 10.
This (clean) rom com had more emotional depth than most. It defies gender roles, touches on grief, family and more. The narration is fun, like she's talking right to the reader. It's a tad predictable in places, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment one bit.
A genuine and sweet read if you need a break from the intense.
This is her best book yet. Hannah, is assigned to be a bodyguard to a famous actor, Jack, who is in danger from a stalker. Jack has come home to help his ill mother, but must face unresolved family issues. Hannah may be able to kill someone with a pen, but she cannot face her inability to connect with others. Together Jack and Hannah faced their fears and fell in love. The story is moving and funny. One minute I am laughing and the next I am crying.
Thank you Netgally for the advanced copy.
This book was cute and made me laugh out loud a few times. But then the almost ending was weird and dragged on too long. I really enjoyed the narrator of this audiobook. Her voice was fabulous to listen to.
Sweet as can be. I was in the mood for something cute and this fit the bill. You do have to suspend reality a bit as this gets a little ridiculous and unlikely at times. It was silly and made me lol at times but yet filled with real life sad stuff - triggers for cancer and death of a family member. I’m not sure this is something I’ll remember long term but it was an enjoyable read at the time.
Book Review - The Bodyguard By Katherine Center
Words alone can not express how much I enjoyed this book. Katherine Center just has a way of writing her characters that makes them so lovable! I really enjoyed Hannah, she was perfectly flawed in a way that makes her completely relatable and worth rooting for. You want all of these characters to find happiness, even the stalkers! Truly, it's an art form to have readers invested in even the minor sideline characters. And FUNNY? OMG This book had me laughing so much, I bet my serotonin levels were up 10%. The “cow lick” part had me laughing so hard. Jack was great and totally likable from day one. Sometimes I found him immature, but mostly he was pretty endearing. Regardless, he was a perfect counterpart for Hannah.
Audiobook Review - this is my SECOND time “reading” this book because I love it so much and the audio version was perfect. The narrator felt like the perfect voice for Hannah Books. Highly recommended!
Hannah Brooks looks like the girl next door who is a kindergarten teacher. Nobody would ever imagine she is an Executive Protection Agent aka a bodyguard.
Jack Stapleton is the good-looking movie star of every girl’s dreams.
What will happen when Hannah is hired to be Jack’s bodyguard…
This book was an adorable, sweet romantic comedy. Jack is super sweet to Hannah. Each interaction between Jack and Hannah puts a smile on your face. Jack’s parents are also so sweet and welcoming to Hannah. I wish we saw more of them! The moments between Jack and Hannah were so great, I wish we had more of them! The narrator, Patti Murin, was fantastic!
I highly recommend this sweet rom-com if you love Hallmark movies or Netflix rom-coms. Yes, it is predictable but it will leave with you a smile.
THE BODYGUARD by Katherine Center.
I have read Katherine Center before but either I’m getting more cynical with age or her writing is getting sweeter and sweeter.
This one, perhaps too sweet, follows Hannah Brooks a bodyguard for hire that was just given the assignment to guard reluctant movie star, Jack Stapleton.
Part of her assignment is to play the part of Jack's girlfriend for Jack's mom, who is on her death bed.
The steam in this book is near nonexistent. I almost would’ve appreciated a fake dating to friends ending. But alas, this is a romance book so there must be romance.
I read this in one sitting and believe most people will as well, making it a great book for a long bath or short flight.
This book would make a great recommendation for that friend you have that likes to keep things clean.
Very much like Ms. Congeniality in book form.
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center…⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and St Martins Press for the advanced copies!
I loved this book from the first page. It was just what I needed at this moment.
Hannah works for an agency that provides bodyguards for people who need them. Her life has just fallen apart when her mother dies, her boyfriend breaks up with her, and the boss insists she take time off. Hannah knows nothing but her job. But when she comes back to work- her boss, Glenn, assigns her the job of guarding Jack Stapleton, a movie star who has a stalker. He’s taking time off to be with family and Hannah poses as his girlfriend so as not to alarm his mother.
Ok- I fell for this hook, line, and sinker! Jack and his personality, description and dialogue were swoon worthy. Hannah was the tough little “I don’t know I’m cute” character. They hit it off for me. The book was a fast read and my favorite of this author’s. I also appreciate when all the loose ends are tied up in an epilogue like the author did in this book. Read it!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of “The Bodyguard” in exchange for an honest review. Katherine Center did it again. This book was just what I needed. There’s love and a happily ever after, but we have to work for it first. The conflicts that the characters experience are relatable and well crafted. The characters are endearing and I rooted for them the whole way through. She also did a great job with establishing atmosphere and setting.
This is seriously one of the best books I have ever listened to.
I figured it would be okay… possibly funny… and hopefully keep me somewhat entertained, but it did so much more! I laughed out loud quite a bit.
I cried so much and when books make me too blubbery I tend to get mad at the book and the author, but that’s not the case this time. The tears were cathartic. I feel like I just had the best therapy session of my life.
That doesn’t mean this is a self-help book at all. It means the characters and situations and all of their feelings were so darn relatable that you understand them deeply.
I never heard of Katherine Center before seeing this audiobook on Netgalley, but I am now and forever a true fan!
I’d like to thank NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for giving me the audio arc version of this story. I am giving my review honestly and freely.
I’d like to start off with, this book was entertaining, but I do feel like it’s a little too cliche. Now, before I dive more into that, let me just say that I really enjoyed the narrator, they did such an amazing job. This was a good book to listen to while I was cooking or doing chores.
As a character, I liked Hannah, but at the same time, I feel disappointed with her. She’s portrayed as this workaholic that’s the best at what she does, but after the beginning, she definitely doesn’t live up to that. It’s like she sees the hot Celebrity Jack and she loses herself. Now, I know she’s also suffering from a loss, but I feel like she strayed too far from what she was described as in the beginning.
The things I loved about her is that if I ignored that, she was a fun character, her being afraid of a certain animal cracked me up and Hannah definitely has sass. Jack, I loved him five out of five for him. Enough said there.
Back to the storyline itself, if you’re looking for the typical romcom, this is the story for you. It wasn’t so cliche that it was boring, but it definitely was extremely predictable for me. I also feel like the other characters aside from Hannah and Jack fell flat. They pretty much existed for the story, but didn’t really come alive in my opinion.
Overall, cute romcom, but it’s more suited for a comfort read. Patti Murin did an excellent job narrating so if you can get the audiobook, I’d highly recommend it!
Fun romance book. Two very different people fall in love. She is a regular girl, but she is elite bodyguard. He is big Holywood star, but he is just next door guy from small town. Both of them have big trauma in their lives that is not letting them to be be happy at this time. Can they help each other? It reminds me of movie Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock.
