In "Dream Big," Napoleon Hill once again ignites the spark of ambition within us. As someone who has always been drawn to self-improvement literature, this book resonated deeply with me. Hill's timeless wisdom, presented in bite-sized chapters, served as a much-needed reminder to never underestimate the power of dreams.

What I particularly appreciated about "Dream Big" was its focus on overcoming fear, a common hurdle that often stifles our potential. Hill's words encouraged me to confront my anxieties head-on and embrace the unknown with courage and determination.

While some of the principles may have felt familiar to those well-versed in Hill's work, the book's concise format and accessible language make it an excellent starting point for those new to his teachings. It's a pocket-sized powerhouse of motivation that can easily be revisited whenever you need a boost of inspiration.

However, I do wish the book delved deeper into some of the concepts presented. While the excerpts and transcripts were thought-provoking, a more comprehensive exploration would have been beneficial.

"Dream Big" is a valuable addition to any personal development library. It's a reminder that no dream is too big if you have the courage to pursue it. Hill's words continue to inspire generations, and this book is no exception.

This was a quick read for me. Likely because of the format - different types of writing and advice throughout. It’s an inspirational, self-help type of book that can be applied to many areas of life, many goals and aspirations. I think it accomplishes what it sets out to do.

Not the biggest fan of compilations of small bits from other publications, but sometimes its nice to get the gist of the other books without having to stop and read them all. I still plan on reading Think and Grow Rich at some point, but it just hasn't been the right time recently.
I find it hilarious that other reviewers have said things like this book being out of date or 0% relevant today. It's like people don't know how to take advice and tweek it for themselves and their own experience any more. Add some inflation and a couple different technology industries and you've got perfectly relevant advice. There is even a prologue that address some of the out of date pricing and comments (one reviewer said he was sexist...it was a different time, we can put away our offended spirits to learn from past generations still, can't we?!). The prologue said that they considered taking them out but felt that leaving them in without edit would keep the message. Because surely we can still take advice from older generations who have learned things. Surely. If you can't, then this book isn't for you.
But for those of us who can, this has great insight. I'm not complaining about how he doesn't address my Christian faith when he wasn't a Christian....nor should we expect him to talk or act like we do today when he isn't alive or writing this today. But we can still learn from him.
Great success principles and nuggets of wisdom.

All in all, though, I'd rather have a complete book than a compliation.

I’m not usually one for self help books but I enjoyed this one. I liked how things were shown in different perspective. And while I didn’t agree with everything, I think it was well laid out. I wasn’t a huge fan of the part geared more towards one gender than the other. This book wasn’t really advertised that way and it kinda put me off those parts. Overall pretty decent and a very quick read.

I didn’t know this was a compilation of essays from and influential speaker from the 1930s. With that being said some of the comments are sexist and out of date for current times, but this makes sense as it was originally published in 1937. I’ve found some valuable and relatable quotes thus far, but overall it’s not what I’m looking for in a self help or inspirational book. I have decided to DNF this book at 32%.

Short and to the point! I discovered Napoleon Hill not too long ago and couldn’t believe that he was born in the 1800s. These ideas are still relevant to this day. Highly recommend this short motivational style book!

Our thoughts are extremely powerful! Great motivational and inspirational advice!

Although his advice was published between 1915 and 1937, it still applies today. Hill mentions multiple people, such as Edison, Ford, Woolworth, Washington among others, and discusses how they have been successful.

It may be a short read, but it made a huge impact!

“Dream Big: Overcoming Fear and Achieving Success” by Napoleon Hill is a business and investing nonfiction book.

I don’t usually read these types of books but it was interesting and definitely gave me a deeper perspective on life.

I read Napoleon Hill’s classic book Think and Grow Rich back in my college days for a business class. He is considered the Grandaddy of all motivational writers/speakers, even though he died in 1970. Most of his writing is a little old-fashioned, of course, because it was written back in the 1930s, however, the lessons provided are timeless. If you can ignore the gender biases presented, there is a lot to learn from this little book. I’m sure if Hill was still alive today, he would rewrite his books to be inclusive of women to reflect the times.

Dream Big is a selection of Napoleon Hill’s most inspirational writings on making your dreams come true!! The book includes articles written over 100 years ago and excerpts from his books, Think and Grow Rich and The Law of Success.

I enjoyed getting a little piece of Hill’s best work gathered in one place where I can reread it anytime I feel I need to reset my focus. If you’ve never read anything by Hill, this is a great intro to his writings.

I found myself highlighting whole paragraphs to refer to later which, to me, is a sign of a good self-help book.

Some of my favorite lessons/quotes from the book are:

“Fears are nothing more than a state of mind.”

“Indecision is the seedling of fear.....Indecision crystallizes into doubt; the two blend and become fear.”

“Mind control is the result of self-discipline and habit. You either control your mind or it controls you.”

“People who do not succeed have one distinguishing trait in common. They know all the reasons for failure and have what they believe to be airtight alibis to explain away their own lack of achievement. (I read excuses in lieu of alibis).

“Happiness lies always in the future and never in the past.”

“Remember that your reputation is made by others, but your character is made by you!”

“One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat.”

“The starting point of all achievement is desire.”

One of the biggest reminders within the book for me was to live a passionate life and Hill shows you how you can do that. For me, this is just what I needed to read at just the right time. Day-to-day living can get kind of monotonous and this gave me the wake-up call I needed!! We only get one life and we need to make it count!!

If you haven’t and want to read his book, Think and Grow Rich which is classic Hill, it is free on Amazon in the US if you have the Kindle app.

Dream Big is only 106 pages, but full of empowering and inspirational messages/lessons. The part I find most interesting is that even though Hill’s books were written decades ago, the messages/lessons within are still very relevant today.

Good Advice in a Short Book

Napoleon Hill is best know for his book Think and Grow Rich. This book is a collection of short essays written in the 1930s. Although some of the material is dated, it is still easy to read and offers good advice.

I think the best essays in this collection give advice on finding a fulfilling career. However, the one that I found most relevant dealt with adversity. Most of us of had plenty of adversity in the last few years. His essay helps to put things in perspective and gain some insight into the benefits of adversity.

This is a short book. I takes very little time to read, but the ideas will stick with you, and you can come back to it when times are difficult.

I received this book from St. Martin’s Press for this review.

Review:

This book is to help encourage people to achieve their goals and go after their dreams. It’s a very short read. There’s about ten chapters. I definitely recommend this book for anybody who feels lost and doesn’t know where they are going. Especially if they have an idea in mind, but don’t have the confidence that they can see it through. It definitely gives the reader plenty to think about.

Napoleon Hill remains relevant to this day. This book has quite a few gems inside it, as one would expect, however... There is nothing really new for those who have read Think and Grow Rich and/or The Law of Success.

I appreciate the Napoleon Hill Foundation for keeping Hill's work in print, and exposing new generations to it, but these "new" Hill books are, at best, CliffsNotes versions of Hill's real books. Perhaps necessary given younger folks' decreased attention spans, but they do themselves a disservice by not reading Hill's two main books.

Nothing wrong with this book, it still gets 4 stars, but really, go read The Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich. You'll get everything in this book and so much more.

A bit of research showed me that Napoleon Hill wrote many books of which his best known apparently is Think and Grow Rich. Amazing to me is that the book was first published in 1937. This is the first of this author’s works that I have read.

Here in a short, just over 100 page book, Hill takes on big topics as can be seen from the book’s subtitle. As the introduction notes, there are aspects of the essays that will perhaps feel dated but readers may still haves some good takeaways. Dip in and hopefully take away some bits of wisdom and something to contemplate after completing each entry.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

Dream Big
Overcoming Fear and Achieving Success
By: Napoleon Hill
St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Essentials
Release Date: 10/11/2022
Genre: Business and Investing, Nonfiction (adult)

Dream Big is a small compilation of advice, taken from some of Napoleon Hill's previously published work. Hill, lecturer and writer about the topic of success, was born in 1883 and died in 1970. I was not familiar with any of Mr. Hill's writings before reading Dream Big. Topics covered range from fear, adversity, self-control, and enthusiasm and how they pertain to finding success in career, finances, and life.

The book is a quick read, and there are some takeaways that many people will find valuable. I found some of the material to be outdated for today's world and lacking in diversity and equality. It is dynamically written and there is helpful information included in the writings. The section on finding a good fit in a career was my favorite part, especially about choosing a job in which you can provide a service that is beneficial to the world. When reading self-help and advice books such as this, I like to highlight what relates to my life and what fits in my personal core beliefs.

I was honored to receive a digital advance copy of this book as a member of the St. Martin's Press Influencer Program, and for that I am grateful.
Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Essentials for the advance reader's copy and opportunity to provide my unbiased review.

A mix of Mr Hill's past advice, sorted out into easy to read chapters. Some old information (obviously), but something for everyone looking for his insights. Suggest reading one chapter at a time vs all at one sitting. Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers & Mr Hill for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
