When in Rome
by Sarah Adams
Pub Date: 20 Sep 2022
This was just what I needed! Big star's car breaks down and small-town boy comes to the rescue...and let the tropes begin! This was such a fun, sweet romance. Yes, it is filled with cliches and let's be honest, we know how it is going to end, but the ride to getting there just makes you smile. Amelia and Noah, the side characters, and the whole town...just perfect! This book was an absolute treat to read!!
This book was a wonderful sweet read. The characters were easy to fall for and the story was fun to go along for the ride. I enjoyed getting lost in this small town. With big Nottinghill vibes, it’s a light read that will leave you feeling good with the happily ever after.
Amelia Rose just wants a break from her popstar life. Following the footsteps of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday she goes to Rome... Rome, Kentucky. There she meets Noah, a pie maker, and his three sisters. She falls in love with the town and its inhabitants.
I absolutely love the romance between the two main characters, they have such a fun dynamic. They had some good banter and their romance grew quickly but pretty organically. In terms of side characters, I loved Noah's sisters and how developed they felt. I also loved Mabel so much, her setting them up was genius. I hated Susan from the moment she popped up because I could tell right off the bat where that plot line would lead.
Overall I was devouring this book from beginning to end. There was not a single dull moment.
DNF at 15%. Slow, boring, not a lot happening. Sarah Adams is a no from me. The love felt manufactured, and I just truly did not care about the characters. The cover art is beautiful, however!
When In Rome is the latest rom com by Sarah Adams, TikTok sensation of The Cheatsheet.
Mega celebrity Rae Rose, needs a break from the exhausting spotlight and decides that since she cannot drive to Rome and have an adventure like Aubrey Hepburn, she’ll escape to Rome, Kentucky. She does not expect being rescued by a handsome grumpy baker when her car brakes down right in front of his house. Sparks fly, but not right away of course. His heart is heavy guarded because of his past. Will they find a way to make it happen even when Rae’s career threatens to mess with their little bubble? 🫧
Small town romance.
Grumpy/Sunshine.
Ugh, such a feel-good romance book. Small town romances never fail. I freaking loved it. NetGalley provided an #egalley and I went and purchased it right away when it came out. Definitely worth to be re-read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is an homage to Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn. Instead of Rome, Italy, this takes place in Rome, Kentucky. Amelia 'Rae' Rose is a musician in need of a break. She loves the movie Roman Holiday and heads for the nearest Rome she can get to. Her car breaks down in front of Noah's house and out stormy begins.
I loved everything about this book and am hopeful that it's the beginning of a series (Noah has wonderful sisters).
Read this for all kinds of romance:
✨Grumpy-sunshine
✨Small town
✨City-country
✨Celebrity- normal guy
✨Quirky wonderful characters
✨Likable main characters
I loved Noah and Amelia's connection, their backstories, and getting to know Rome, KY. I was rooting for both of them. 💕 This was my first book by Sarah Adams and it definitely won't be my last!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rome, in the case of this book, is Rome, Kentucky and where pop star, Amelia, runs away to a la the classic movie, Roman Holiday.
Overworked and feeling lost, Amelia's car breaks down and she encounters pie shop owner Noah. While the two break apart their preconcieved notions of how the other lives, understanding and love blooms.
A sweeet and comforting romance. A pleasant escape.

Thank you for the ARC!
It was an amazing story and one I would recommend to any of my friends looking for a fun and easy read. Adams has that magic to writing that is so hard to find, and she makes it seem seamless!
When in Rome was one of the best sweet romances I have read lately. I loved the banter and playfulness between Amelia and Noah. Their characters were extremely well written, and I felt at home in the small town of Rome. I was pulled right into the story and wished that I too could take a trip to meet the characters and de-stress. The perfect cozy read for the upcoming fall and winter months.
Another great romance from Sarah Adams full of all the best tropes! It had forced proximity, enemies to lovers, runaway celebrity, and opposites attract. I loved the characters and their backgrounds as Amelia is trying to take a break from her stardom and get away for a short time. She loves Audrey Hepburn and tries to reenact Roman Holiday by traveling to Rome, Kentucky. As luck would have it, her car breaks down when she is almost there and lands her in Noah’s front yard. It is very obvious that she is skeptical of him, and he has other obligations to take care of. As the books goes on, they begin to see different sides of each other and Amelia sees great things about the town of Rome. It was such a slow burn, but I was pulling for Amelia and Noah the entire book!
This was a cute, easy, cut and dry romance. When in Rome follows Amelia and her love interest Noah. There's a forced proximity trope that causes her to have to stay in Noah's house in Rome... Kentucky. This book was just okay for me but almost too light and fluffy. If you're new to the genre this could be a win.
When In Rome is a cute, opposites-attract, closed door romance. Amelia (Rae Rose) is a famous pop star who is feeling burned out as she prepares for her next tour. She decides to take a little getaway to a small town and her car ends up breaking down right as she gets there - on Noah’s property. Noah is the grumpy pie shop owner who offers to let her spend the night until she can get her car fixed.
I liked this story but the pacing felt off and there were parts in the middle that dragged a bit and made me reluctant to pick the book back up. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.
This book was so close to 5 stars for me! I loved the small town vibe and Noah and Amelia's love story. It was so cozy and happy, despite Noah's grumpiness. I just wanted more in the way of telling of their relationship, because I prefer some open door scenes which this didn't have. As far as Sarah Adams' books go, I did like this one more than Cheat Sheet.
When in Rome has been added to my favorites shelf! It was the sweetest love story I’ve read in a long time and I can’t stop thinking about it. Sarah Adams writes the most incredible slow burn romances and this one is one of my favorites written by her. I highly recommend this one- it will leave you smiling and happy!
I’ve been wanting to read something from Sarah Adams ever since her novel, The Cheat Sheet, generated so much hype on social media. I’m a big Audrey Hepburn fan too, so when I saw Hepburn and Roman Holiday mentioned in the synopsis for Adams’ new book, When in Rome, I couldn’t resist reading it.
Amelia Rose, or Rae Rose as she is known to her legions of fans, is a pop princess on the verge of burn out. Years of cultivating her onstage persona, obeying her manager’s every command, and following a rigorous tour schedule have taken their toll and Amelia desperately needs to get away from her life for a while. Inspired by Roman Holiday, her favorite Audrey Hepburn film, Amelia takes off in the middle of the night for a quick vacation before her next tour starts. Unlike Roman Holiday, however, Italy is not the destination. Amelia needs somewhere closer and more discrete so she heads to a different Rome…Rome, Kentucky. Luck is not on her side though as her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere just on the outskirts of Rome. Her rescuer appears in the unlikely form of a grumpy but sexy baker named Noah Wilder. Amelia has no idea how life changing this little trip to Rome is going to be.
This was such a fun read! I adored both Amelia and Noah and especially loved watching Amelia break through Noah’s gruff exterior to see what a sweet, big-hearted guy he really is under all that grumpiness. There are some laugh out loud moments, lots of flirty ones too, and so much witty banter that had me chuckling through chapter after chapter. Amelia and Noah are clearly attracted to one another, but neither is looking for a relationship. Then there’s the added twist that Amelia is only in town for a couple of weeks anyway and then she’s off on tour again for months. Neither wants to get into a relationship that is destined not to last, but it gets harder and harder to fight their attraction to one another. I loved how that tension and conflict contrasted with all the fun, flirty moments and added that extra layer of very realistic depth to the story.
All of the secondary characters in the book were fabulous too. Rome is a small quirky town filled with equally quirky characters. It was clear they all loved Noah and considered him family and equally clear that they were rooting for Noah and Amelia to get together just as much as I was. Noah also has sisters who live in town and they were also fabulous. I loved how Noah and his sisters have a standing “date” every Saturday night where they all get together, play games, and tease each other mercilessly. Their close-knit family just gave me warm fuzzies.
Overall, When in Rome was just an all around delightful read for me. If you’re in the mood for a fun and heart-warming small-town romance filled with lovable quirky characters, this is the book for you!
Pop star Amelia "Rae" Rose needs a break, so she looks to her idol Audrey Hepburn and heads to Rome, Kentucky for some time to herself. But when her car breaks down and won't be fixed for two weeks, Amelia has to really look at why she ran and how she can save herself.
Love this so much!! I’m buying it!! I love a good romance so much and I seen so many reviews on this book
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK. I don't know how but Sarah Adams wrote a better book than Cheat Sheet. Everything about this book drew me in and helped me disappear into it. I loved the characters, the friends, the romance, the evolvement of relationships, the growth and strength Amelia went through... It was all wonderful. I read it in three hours and would happily do so again.
Sarah has done it again! She has delivered us a sweet and swoony romance that will leave us laughing and sighing for the foreseeable future.
This book has all of the things I love about Sarah Adams' books: relatable MCs, humor that is on point, incredible side characters, and, of course, a romance so adorable you could kick yourself. Read for some awesome grumpy/sunshine interactions with cooky small-town antics and a healthy dose of happily ever after.
Thank you to netgalley for my advanced copy, all thoughts are my own.
Content: I would describe the spice level much like Sarah herself did: still closed door, but with a crack in it. Fade to black romance scenes, mild language.
Unshockingly got this for our library. It is AMAZING.
One thing I get asked a lot for is closed door romances. Sometimes you want that romcom feel without the dirty feeling afterwards, and this one delivers!!
I will absolutely read everything she writes!! Loved the main characters so much!!
