To start, Steel is one of my favorites! But the repetition was horrible in the beginning. I almost DNF this a few times. But by the end, the story is overall good. But getting thru it was brutal at times.
Wow. I think I can start every review I write about a book by Danielle Steel that way. I’ve sat on this review for days trying to decide what I want to say. I felt like I climbed into this book and never came out.
The Whittier siblings are a very tight knit group. They clearly love each other very much and would do anything for each other. When they unexpectedly and tragically lose their parents they do everything they can to be there for one another. Half of them move back into their family home to take care of Benjie. Even as Lyle’s marriage falls apart and Annabelle spirals out of control, they are still each other’s rocks.
Every character Danielle writes, she writes so I feel like I personally know them. I understand them. She makes me cry every time.
I always want there to be more story.
DS is the author I’ve been reading since I was 17. She has the ability to take me back in time to that young girl who on hot summer nights stayed up all night reading her romance novels and dreaming of finding love one day. Her latest book has all the feels. It centers around a family who undergoes a life changing event. As the brothers and sisters come together they experience loss of relationships, grief new opportunities and love. At the core is the heart of family. I wish everyone was blessed enough to have a family like The Whittier’s. As each sibling grapples with the trajectory their lives are following we come to learn that life presents challenges and we can overcome them with family at our sides. Do you reminisce about your childhood home and the fun shared with siblings? If so then this one will take you back to that perhaps simpler place in time. Thank you #NetGalley for the ATC, all opinions are my own.
The Whittiers by Danielle Steel are a family who would be appalled by ghosting each other. They might not always agree, but they love and suppirt each other and work things out.

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to bring about strength…
The Whittiers tells the story of six siblings after the tragic death of their parents brings them back to their childhood home and back to each other.
Lyle, the oldest, is having trouble with his marriage. Gloria’s super successful but that comes at the cost of being alone. Caroline and Charlie, twins, run a business and live together. Benjie has special needs and has to adjust to life without the only caregivers he’s ever known. Annabelle has dropped out of college, doesn’t have a job a parties all night.
The older kids have to put their problems aside to help take care of the younger two. All six have to figure out what to do with their childhood home as well as how to navigate life without their parents. Thankfully they have each other.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Danielle Steel is such a prolific author and her stories make the perfect weekend escape. The Whittiers is no exception! It is a heartwarming read detailing a family's recovery from the unexpected loss of their parents to an accident. I appreciated that the publisher, Random House/Ballantine/Delacorte Press, granted my wish to preview it via #NetGalley - it was the perfect pre-holiday read to escape the calm before the storm!
This author has written a crazy amount of books and family is a common focal point, which I am so thankful for. Family dynamics and their intricacies are fascinating to me and Steel always has such interesting families to read about. The Whittiers is an inspiring story about the everlasting bonds of one unforgettable family. Tragedy brings a close family even closer than ever, but with many tribulations along the way. Siblings who range in age and personality move in together in their family home and provide the support each of them need, though in different ways and for different reasons. Steel covers a variety of topics in this book, and does so in such a way that the reader is drawn in and feels emotionally connected. I really loved this book and definitely recommend it.
Captivating, intriguing, and edge of your seat... make this a must-read!
In The Whittiers we find that Preston and Constance Whittier have built a happy life together, with a brood of six children raised in a beautiful historic Manhattan mansion. Now, with a nearly empty nest, it’s easier than ever for the Whittiers to maintain their tradition of a solo romantic “Wintermoon” ski trip.
But with this year’s trip comes tragedy, and suddenly the Whittiers’ adult children find themselves reuniting in the family home without their parents for the first time ever. The oldest, Lyle, is reaching a breaking point in his marriage and must decide whether a divorce would be best for him and his two children.
Gloria’s big job on Wall Street has kept her single at thirty-nine, and growing ever more cynical. The twins, Caroline and Charlie, moved out long ago to start a fashion business that may now be faltering. Benjie, with special needs, is hit hard by the loss of his parents and needs his siblings’ help. And Annabelle, the youngest, drops out of college and starts to spin out of control.
Loved this book!!! True to Danielle! Easy good characters beautiful setting! Didn’t want it to end!! Good discussion book. Good book club selection!
I loved this story. The author’s books are alway a great escape read for me and this was no different. I loved how the children handled the loss and their survival.
Many thanks to Random House and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Whittiers by Danielle Steel
This was a different read for me. The book tells the story of 6 siblings who band together after their parents death and move back in to their childhood home.
Unfortunately I just keep waiting for the next shoe to drop but it never did.
Each family member has their own storyline and then a story as a family as a whole. They were all in their own unique
situations allowed them to drop everything to support each other.
I remember my mom reading a lot of Danielle Steel growing up. I don't remember reading a lot of her books, but she does bring me a sense of nostalgia, so when I saw this on Netgalley, I decided to give it a go.
I was about halfway through when I went to my mom's house for Christmas Eve. I asked if she remembered reading a lot of Steel's books. She said yes, but that she had stopped for some reason. I asked if it's because she repeats the same sentence over and over again. She laughed and said, that's it!
The story was fine. Predictable, but fine. I just found it so odd how Steel repeated the same sentence over and over again. It was like she didn't remember writing it. Strange.
Not a book I would recommend, but a very quick read.
Thank you Netgalley and Random House for the ARC.
The Whittier's is definitely a must read. Danielle Steel is a great writer. The beginning is like alot of books and starts off as more of a slow burn but then picks up as you go. If your looking for a quick and sweet read this book would be for you. It was nice seeing how a family comes together after such a tragedy.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine, Delacorte Press for allowing me to read the arc in advanced.
It's been so long since I read a Danielle Steele novel. I don't know why, it just has. I had forgotten how much I enjoy her writing. Though her books may never be considered literary classics, she has a way of putting a story together that is relatable and easy to like. The Whittiers is the story of the Whittier family the year after their parents die in a tragic accident. The status of their beautiful NYC home is in question. Each of the six adult children has their own lives and each one has his or her own strengths and struggles. They must now come together in order to move forward. As the story progresses, each child grows within their responsibilities and talents. The end is nice resolution. I am in hopes this is the beginning of a new series. I'm invested in these characters and I would love to know what happens in their lives. What an enjoyable read. You will like it.
Quick and light read that I would probably list as one of my favorite Danielle Steel books. I loved all of the characters, how the siblings were so close and all came together in the wake of a family tragedy to support and take care of each other. It wasn't overly dramatic like some Danielle Steel books can be, but had just enough drama to keep me interested. This book really was all about the characters, and eclectic group of siblings who are all quite different but connected by family and their love for one another. It was heartwarming how they were there for each other in various ways, even when dealing with their own issues. A great book for Danielle Steel fans, and for those who are just starting to read her books.
When Preston and Constance Whittier are tragically killed on a ski trip, their adult children have to carry on. They find themselves moving back into their childhood home to help the two youngest try to cope with the loss. As they continue to grieve, they find solace in being together again as adults. This is another wonderful book by Ms. Steel. Great characters and an interesting plot that holds your interest.
THE WHITTIERS
Danielle Steel
Women’s Fiction
After the tragedy of losing their parents in an accident, the ax adult children reunite in the family home to plan the care of their special needs sibling. Will six siblings find joy in each other or will everything the Whittiers parents worked toward for so long go up in smoke?
This was an excellent book. The writing talent that is Danielle Steel takes these characters to such depth here is incredible. She has an uncanny ability to show both their good and bad sides of characters and still have them relatable. She never fails to amaze me with her writing skills. I give this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars.
I enjoyed this heartfelt family drama. It drew me in immediately and held my interest the whole time. Thanks for letting me read it!
As usual for Danielle Steel, another great family saga book. I have read her novels from a teenager. They always keep interest and move smoothly. I won't give the details as some may not have read it and I hate when people give the entire synoposis of the book before others can read it. I thank the publisher for allowing me to read the advanced copy. Happy reading!
Preston and Constance Whittier have raised their six children in their large home in Manhattan. They are wealthy and have always had a nanny to help care for the children. Each year after Christmas, they like to take a 2-3 week trip usually to France to ski. It’s what they call their annual Wintermoon. But this year, tragedy strikes and they are killed in a sudden avalanche. Now, their children have to handle this awful time and settle the estate of their beloved parents.
Lyle, 42, is married to Amanda and father to 2 children. Amanda does not like her in-laws and the feeling is mutual. She is lazy, greedy, and relies on a nanny to raise the children. Their marriage is rocky.
Gloria, 39, is single and loves her job on Wall Street.
Caroline and Charlie, 33, are twins who share an apartment in Soho and have their own brand of women’s clothes.
Benjie, 28, lives at home and is autistic but has a high IQ. He loves his job at a pet shelter.
Annabelle, 21, lives at home having recently dropped out of college and looking to find her way in life.
I loved this book as we find a family that is very close, loving and supportive of one another. This amazing author has created real characters with true emotions. They all face problems in their lives but have the support of their siblings to help them. This is what a loving family is all about. Danielle Steel has done it again! Don’t miss this heartwarming book.
