TW: miscarriage, rape, illness

Three couples are on the vacation of a lifetime, staying in a luxury resort on a secluded island. Sam and David are on their honeymoon after a quick 6 month relationship. Daisy and Tom are there in an attempt to save their marriage. And Becky and Josh are at the resort for some time away from their reality. They are thrown together as unlikely friends when a young, female resort employee turns up dead– and each woman’s husband sounds like a suspect.

I normally like the locked room (in this case, island) mysteries but this one didn’t do it for me. There was a lot of repetition and dragging. Not too much action? I also wasn’t too fond of any of the characters. While I had some suspicions, I was surprised by the outcome in the end.

Overall this was just an okay read– I finished it without skipping so there’s that!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

This was a great twisty novel. I couldn’t guess who it was but, I thought everyone was involved. I must admit I didn’t like the characters much they were too self centred. I felt extremely sorry for Becky thou. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I’d like to give 3.5 stars for this! It wasn’t quite a 4 star but I have to give it props for being such a page-turner that I read it in two days!

Sam can’t believe her luck that she finally met the perfect man, David, and is on her honeymoon at the upmarket Fitzgerald’s hotel, after only knowing him for 6 months. She can’t help feeling out of her depth with how sophisticated the hotel is and how well David fits in and suspicions begin to sink in that he might not be the catch Sam first thought.

Then we meet Daisy and Becky - both holidaying at Fitzgerald’s with their husbands and using the getaway time to come to terms with two very different situations in their lives.

None of their relationships are perfect and suspicions and mistrust is rife amongst the guests - who are suddenly bonded when hotel waitress Stella is found dead on the hotel grounds.

What follows is a slow build up of learning more about the couples, their strained relationship dynamics, and the building of suspicion against everyone.

Whilst I couldn’t wait to find out the truth about the characters and what happened, there was also too much repetition of the same conversations and musings between the couples. Way too much sitting around and rehashing the plot! And the behaviour of the police was so daft and impossible in places that I found myself rolling my eyes!

I also kept waiting to find out why Sam and Becky are in the first person and Daisy in the third person and nothing ever clicked into place about that! Was it a mistake? Or a deep comment on how detached she has become??

An absolute must for a beach holiday reading list!

I have loved Sue Watson's previous books but found this one to be very confusing with so many different stories interlinked.

The Resort by Sue Watson takes the reader to an exclusive island resort where everyone is not only not what they seem…they’re also all suspects. Hopping from the points of view of three different ladies staying on the island, each one reveals that their relationships with their spouses all have their weak spots. The question remains throughout, will each of their relationships survive the resort and more importantly…did one of their husbands commit the murder?

The Resort will keep you guessing right up until the end. The only part I didn’t love in this book was the shifting points of view. With each character getting chapters to tell their point of view, I felt it could get confusing. I also felt that each character is revealed to be multi layered but at the same time, their primary characteristic is overwhelming in each of their chapters and it takes awhile to discover the other facets of their characters.

This is a 3.5 star read for me and I would recommend trying to read it as quickly as possible to make it easier to keep everyone straight.

Omg what a firecracker of a book! I was sucked in by all the characters and the plot was amazing. I felt connected to each of the women and they all were relatable and very sympathetic. I went back and forth the whole time on which of the men was responsible for what. I was definitely surprised in the end. Loved this one and can’t wait to check our more of Sue Watson’s books!

"I feel like everyone seems to be pretending like they have nothing to hide – but everyone has something to hide, don’t they?"

Set in an idyllic landscape, three couples escape to a luxury island resort on holiday. Despite its beauty, Fitzgerald's, the stunning white diamond in the sea, has a tragic history that adds an element of malevolence to the setting. The couples become fast friends until they learn that the body of a young waitress at the resort has been found in the midst of this beautiful dream. Someone at the resort is guilty. But, who could it be?

No one and nothing was as it seemed. I loved the idea of a locked island mystery set during a cruel and beautiful summer at a secluded resort. I could feel the sweltering heat as well as the emotions and troubles set therein. I was fully invested in the characters, each well developed with his or her own history and secrets to tell.

I had my suspicions along the way but was ultimately surprised and shocked by several of the revelations. Plausible twists and turns added to my enjoyment of solving this mystery as everything came together in a satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend this book to thriller fans especially those like me who are looking for a unique story with a challenge to solve in a genre where surprises are often lacking.

The Resort is a book set on an Island only accessible by Boat.
It features Three couples, who are there having a luxury holiday, who are there for varying reasons.

The 1920’s Hotel is a luxurious, expensive of Art Deco Style, catering for exclusive guests, with mouth watering menus, everything a luxurious stay should be.

Three couples meet, Sam & David, Daisy & Tom and Becky & Josh. Three couples from different walks of life.

What happens to Stella?
Why does this bond the three couples together, especially the three women.
Who can you trust?
Secrets are spilled.

My synopsis;
I enjoyed the mystery that this psychological thriller portrayed. It kept me second guessing myself, and I enjoyed the twists and turns of the book.
I enjoyed how the characters were described, giving understanding and depth.
There are a couple of scenes mentioned of a sexual nature, just a heads up in case this type of thing may upset?
I really enjoyed reading this. It has a good ending to the book too.
It is the first book I have read by the author Sue Watson, and I will look to read more of her books.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book in return for an honest review.

Name of Book: The Resort
Author: Sue Watson
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: June 24, 2022
My Rating: 5 WOW! Stars!

The Fitzgerald is a beautiful resort ~ described as a big, white, beautiful palace on a rugged island.
It was built in the 1920s and although has been remodeled several, it takes pride in maintaining the vibe and look of era it was created.
It is also rumored that in addition to its history there is also tragedy.
Three couples meet ~ each are at “The Fitzgerald” for a dream getaway.
Sam and David Harrison are on their Honeymoon ~ however David is so critical of Sam; he certainly has my Spidey sense on alert! )
Daisy and Tom Brown are a unique couple as their jobs are totally opposite. Daisy is beautiful and if a bit taller could have been a model. Currently they are suffering from the loss of a stillborn baby and have not been able to get pregnant again. Tom is younger than Daisy and she feels if he were with someone younger he would be a dad by now.

Becky and Josh Andrews are a bit different in that Josh is excited about being at the resort but Becky seems to be worried first stating her concern about leaving their teenage children with her mom and sister. Not sure why she is having such a hard time enjoying this magnificent resort

Stella Foster is an employee at the resort; she is young and beautiful, works as a waitress in the evening and yoga instructor in the morning. However when Stella is found dead on the beach ~ guess who is a suspect? Yep a member of our couples! Hmmm why would any of them have anything to do with a stranger’s death?

I am a big psychological thriller fan and know to suspect everyone! I sure missed on this!!

Quick read and truly could not put it down!

This is my second Sue Watson read. My 5 star rating of her novels is 100%
Excited for her next story!

This book was very readable and I enjoyed the setting of the Fitzgerald's resort on an island off the coast of the UK. It felt like a locked room mystery, as the guests were either encouraged to stay on the island as crimes happened or else the transport was cut off from the mainland. Won't say any more for fear of spoilers!

There was an interesting cast of characters, however personally I didn't like any of them and found it hard to sympathise with them, even the ones who were innocent. Unfortunately they also didn't feel very three-dimensional.

The pace was good, however it felt like the ending came a little too abruptly, and although the loose ends were all neatly tied up, I was not left satisfied as didn't feel some of the clues were included that should have been there to explain who had done what i.e. so that when you had the big reveals, you went, 'Ah, that makes sense.'

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

The Resort is a good vacation mystery.
Three very different couples are vacationing at the same resort One couple are newlyweds, one couple are celebrating many years and the last couple is recovering from devastating news. Although they are very different, they begin to bond.

When one of the resort workers end up murdered, the bond becomes fragile. Everyone is a suspect. Almost every person had a reason to want the women dead (in theory).

Told from multiple points of view, many secrets are revealed. It proves that appearances are not always the reality.

I had a difficult time in the beginning keeping the characters straight. That made it hard to connect with them for a while. I did connect once I got to know them better. I felt many emotions during the book. Concern, caring, anger and confusion to name a few. A few along the way kept the book interesting.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

The Resort is a place any of us would love to go in a normal world, but Sue Watson's fictitious resort is a place none of us hope to visit. Although in very different stations in life, three couples meet at the resort. They dine, drink, talk, and get to know each other while vacationing. Underneath what seems like a normal vacation, something more sinister is going on, and eventually nobody is able to leave.

The plot of this book is enjoyable. There are twists and turns along the way, but there are some parts I felt are a little rushed and underdeveloped. By the end of the book, the characters are well-defined and some are pretty unlikable (which is the point, I think). However, at the beginning, it is a little hard to determine which couple is which. It jumped around a little too much for me to keep them straight.

Overall, I really liked this book. There are a couple things I would change, but if you like thrillers, it is worth the read. Thank you NetGalley for an arc of The Resort in exchange for my honest opinion.

Overall this book was a big disappointment.

I could not stand the constant yo-yoing with the hot and cold, deep into and withdrawal of relationships and thoughts of the couples: it just seemed so unbelievable and far away from reality.

The relationships of either of the couples were very trope-y and shallow and not well fleshed out. Neither was any of the characters and none were likeable or relatable. They just all seemed completely off.

There were so psychological thrill as promised and absolutely no twists. The plot did not budge and would could skip pages on end and never miss out on anything. It was a strange way of telling a very boring story.

Also, the chapters were from a perspective of the people and couples, yet they were in third person? I just didn’t get it. Also the characters were so shallow and one sided that I often had to go back and see who’s chapter it was, as I could not tell any of them apart properly.

This was a book I wanted to finish asap in order to just move on and hopefully read a better executed book next.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Three couples with very different histories are thrown together during a luxurious holiday on a secluded island.
One couple, newly weds on their honeymoon, married after only 6 months but how much do you really know about your husband who seems to take pleasure in belittling his wife.

One couple are trying to rebuild their relationship following the loss of their baby many years ago, which they have addressed.

One couple who are enjoying time away from the children but what is their secret.

When a waitress is found dead on the bottom of the cliffs, nobody can leave the island and everybody is a suspect. Things escalate when one of the 6 is also attacked. As these people are forced together, many secrets are exposed and nobody is safe.

A real twist of an ending that i never saw coming. Highly recommend a read.

When a dream trip becomes your worst nightmare! I read The Resort in just over a day. It follows three couples: Sam and David; Becky and Josh and Daisy and Tom as they holiday on a luxurious island off the Devonshire coast. I really enjoyed this book. It features murder, intrigue and couples who maybe aren’t so perfect after all. It kept me entertained to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

This book was so good! It had me guessing and questioning everyone at every chapter. No one was who they seemed and everyone had secrets. Up until the very last page I didn’t know the truth. A quick, on your toes thriller that everyone should read!

The Resort was a good story with twists and turns every chapter that is written from multiple points of view.

Three couples are made to stay at a luxury resort after one of the staff members is found murdered. Each couple has their own set of problems they're dealing with. Who could be the killer? I was surprised by the ending for sure. This also was a quick read and I appreciated that.

I really liked how each wife had her own epilogue. This was my first book by Sue Watson and i will absolutely look for more books by her.

3 couples drawn together by the discovery of a body on the beach. Trapped on the Island, secrets and flaws are laid bare as a heatwave runs on.
I absolutely loved this book. A modern day Agatha Christie. The author has so perfectly captured that style, a unique way of writing I have not come across from anyone other than ms Christie.
The setting is right from the era of F Scott Fitzgerald Great Gatsby and is brought to life so well.
The plot and the writing are so good, they make you feel you want to sit at the groups table until the ending of course.😉

The Resort - Sue Watson

First off, Thanks a mil to Bookouture, Netgalley and the author Sue Watson for the opportunity to read an ARC of Sue's latest novel (due to be released in a few weeks time) in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the blurb of this one and was looking forward to getting stuck in.

If you're looking for a quick, fast paced, easy read then look no further.

A typical who'dun'it.
There were enough possible suspects to keep up the suspense throughout and I just wanted to keep on reading to find out who was actually guilty.

I raced through it over two sittings - a real page turner.

The ending was a real surprise 😮 -
I wasn't expecting the final twist and I'm usually pretty good at solving the story before the end in these light thriller reads ...

...but I'd never have guessed this one.

Overall it was an enjoyable book and would defo recommend as a perfect summer read.

3.5🌟
