Sam and David Josh and Becky and Daisy and Tom meet up on a holiday each couple having secrets to keep and also to for some healing and for Sam and David they are on their honeymoon. And when a dead body is found by the rocks on the beach what turned out to be a great holiday turns into a nightmare for all the guests because they can’t leave the island on advice of the police, with a great twist at the end of the book this is a very good physiological thriller from Sue Watson who excels in writing such great books. It really is worth a read and I can’t recommend it highly enough, another brilliant 5 star read from Sue Watson.
As I'm a great fan of Sue Watson couldn't wait to read her new novel, The Resort. Fitzgeralds, a luxury white hotel which sits on an island just off the coast of the UK offers its guests everything they could wish for. Straight away I recognised the art deco hotel on Burgh Island off the South Devon coast - somewhere I've visited many times but never stayed! What a wonderful backdrop to use for a novel!
The Resort focusses on three couples who are staying there - David and Sam on honeymoon, Tom and Daisy trying to re-evaluate their lives and Josh and Becks coming to terms with a life changing situation. Not long after their arrival a body is found on the beach. Each of the male characters has had some involvement with the victim, but are any of them guilty of the murder?
Although this is well written I didn't enjoy it as much as I have some of her previous novels. I didn't think any of the characters were particularly pleasant. The men in particular were quite awful. Having said that, the story progressed well and kept my interest. It was all about working out who the perpetrator was. and there were man y red herrings! And then just when you thought it was all over, there was that sneaky twist as the truth was revealed. My thanks to Bookouture, Sue Watson and NetGalley for an ARC of The Resort in exchange for an honest review.
The Resort was a decent thriller with twists and turns every chapter that is written from multiple points of view. This format is a little confusing at first, but once you get the couples straight, it isn't a problem.
Three couples are made to stay at a luxury resort after one of the staff members is found murdered. Each couple has their own set of problems (terrible husbands, if I'm being honest) they're dealing with. Who could be the killer?
I particularly liked how each wife had her own epilogue. This was my first book by Sue Watson and it did not disappoint. Thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for the ARC in exchange for a review.
Who killed Stella? The waitress is found dead on the beach at Fitzgeralds, a luxe resort that has seen tragedy in the past. Three couples- Daisy and Tom, Sam and David, and Becky and Josh- all find themselves looking at each other and everyone else. Each couple has a secret challenge. Each couple is at a different stage of their relationship and life. Now they have another problem- someone is a murderer. This is classic Watson- a good set up and enough twists to keep you guessing. No spoilers from me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
Three couples go on holiday to an island with a nice hotel, it’s supposed to be a relaxing holiday for one couple, a honeymoon for another and a reconnection for the other couple. It is far from that, when they woman find a dead woman’s body on the cliffs,
This is a great book, was hooked from the first page, loved the twists and turns. All the characters were very well written and very descriptive. It’s a fast paced, easy reading thriller. Can’t fault it.

I always like a good vacation murder mystery and Sue Watson’s newest book delivered! I was intrigued by the premise of couples going on holiday to reconnect in one way or another and becoming friends with other couples all while sinister things are happening and the plot was executed well, the tension was palpable throughout.
The couples in question were all extremely suspicious (a couple of them vastly unlikable!) and I trusted precisely none of them, I liked that each character had their secrets which were revealed at strategic intervals in the story. I thought the backdrop of the elegant and glamorous hotel worked really well in contrast to the grisly incidents that took place among the residents.
There was always something happening yet it never felt too much, I really enjoyed this engaging and fast-paced whodunnit!
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved The Resort. I have read a few books by this author before and really enjoy her writing style. The Resort had me hooked right from the first page. There was so many twists to this story. I enjoyed reading the book from different characters perspectives. I would give this book 5 stars. The ending was just brilliant.
I'm a little bit conflicted by this book. Because yes it is well written and in principle it is a good book. However I really disliked all of the characters and just couldn't feel connected to it. But other than that it was good.
I adore Sue’s twisty thrillers and The Resort is no exception.
Love the setting here and the locked in vibes are my favorite type of thriller.
These three couples are all horrible people and I didn’t know who to hate more.
The twists were great and I didn’t see the end coming! Loved it all.
I highly recommend this one and all of this author’s past thrillers.
The resort is a great fun binge read .
A twisty thriller with three couples on an island getaway. Each are there for different reasons and hiding different secrets. Them a beautiful and young waitress is thrown off a cliff and everyone is a suspect. This story unwinds evenly and holds your interest all the way through!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
An enjoyable gripping read. Definitely will recommend to all thriller fans, its tense and will keep you guessing.. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Every couple seems so perfect on this idyllic island and the paradise-like resort. One crew member is killed, and no one can leave the place. Secrets are revealed, and people are not what they seem to be. Can you really trust your spouse or the new friends you have made?
It is an intriguing story, but I did not warm up to the characters. The setting itself is clinical, and the people putting up such facades, and I prefer it a bit rougher and down to earth. It is a fast read with many twists and happenings, so the reader will not get bored. The ending gives many answers from different perspectives, and satisfied the need to know the truth.
This was such a page turner I literally stayed up until the early hours of the morning to finish it! Full of twists and turns and never really sure who you can trust!
I love all of Sue’s books so it was a no brainer that I’d like this one too. The setting was so atmospheric which really offset the plot. The husbands in this story were all vile and I felt sorry for the women that put up with them.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Three couples enter into a resort on an island, each person has secrets of their own, all three husbands were talking to the waitress, and bam, she ended up being murdered. Go.
The book was written from the POV of all three wives, and I felt like their voices weren't unique, at times, I would forget whose perspectives I was reading. The story at time felt like it was too long, and redundant, the same plots kept on happening over and over again. Oh, Sam's husband disrespected her again. Oh, Becky's husband is off running again. Oh Daisy's husband did something I can't even remember again. I made myself finish the book, so I could see who was responsible, as I didn't have a clue. I was quite shocked by the ending.
What is the next best thing to being on a romantic, ultra-luxurious island vacation resort?...Reading about one and feeling as though you are there yourself, lounging in the comfort of it all, indulging in its beauty and serenity, all while watching scandalous drama, secrets, and suspicions unfold before your very eyes!
That’s what reading this novel did for me, and I enjoyed every indulgent second of it, right up to the shocking twists at the end. The Resort by Sue Watson is a thriller for adults about a romantic vacation-turned-nightmare. Sam, Daisy, and Becky all meet on the island while vacationing with their husbands, and friendships begin to bloom. After a mysterious murder occurs, everyone is soon in a panic, despite the serenity surrounding them. Unable to leave the island due to police investigation, everyone is on edge and soon begin to question if they can trust even their own partners. More attacks ensue, and despite their growing tension and wariness, the bond and loyalty between the three women continues to flourish.
Overall, this is an enjoyable and intriguing read! The story kept me guessing until the very end, and I did not find it predictable. The characters were likable for the most part, their emotions relatable; most satisfying of all, they all had strong character growth as the story progressed. My rating is a 4 out of 5: not quite 5 stars because there was a bit of redundancy with expressing characters’ thoughts which began to somewhat bore me; however, I found myself intrigued with the story and desperately wanting to learn the outcome. I recommend that you immediately fill a glass with your favorite beverage and toss in a cocktail umbrella, relax into your favorite chair and prop up your bare feet, and get ready to escape from the monotony of every-day life as you read your way through a tense island-getaway.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
When a dream trip becomes your worst nightmare…
You’ve been excited about this getaway for months – at last, a chance to reconnect with your husband at a secluded island resort. But when he unexpectedly calls you from the beach, you hear the urgency in his voice. Something is very wrong.
The beautiful waitress from the restaurant last night has been found lying dead in the sand. And the police want to question your husband about it.
Sure, you saw him glance at her over dinner a few times, but you know he didn’t have anything to do with the poor girl’s death. So why is he asking you to lie to the police that he was with you all night? And where did he go in those missing hours?
When he returns to your beautiful sea-view suite, things get heated and he accuses you of being jealous, just like he always does. Yes, the waitress was overly flirtatious with your husband, but you didn’t actually wish her any harm. Not really.
Can you trust the man you married… or are you the one who can’t be trusted?
I liked the three different perspectives of the girls and that even though someone or something might seem to have it all or be perfect that nothing really is. I also liked the whodunit aspect of this book and the storyline.
Dog Tail Smacking My Face, Say What! 😳😯🤯😳🤯
Well snap cakes with jam! This was one majorly twisted, suspenseful and insane ride. I mean fluff sakes, you can't even begin to understand the insanity. Watson did an amazing job gaslighting me many times along the way, the sneaky fox! I still can't believe how this all unfolded and unraveled. Sensationally, darkly done. Delectable like crème brûlée! You'll savour every chapter and bite.
Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: A lovely resort called The Fitzgerald is a getaway in the UK - a prime and wealthy spot for vacations. Sam is with her husband David for their honeymoon. Becky is with her husband Josh for some much needed de-stressing and to reconnect. Finally, Daisy and her husband Tom are there to get past a difficult trauma and try to save their marriage. But a place that is so serene and beautiful, becomes deadly quickly when a waitress is found dead by Sam & Daisy. As an investigation ensues, the getaway turns into a prison trying to find a murderer. And each wife is left to wonder if it's her husband. They all have secrets and demons, but whose is worse?
Even though I guessed part of the ending and the "who", let me tell you there was another part I did NOT see coming and loved it! Watson does it again and this has to be my favourite by her hands down. I'm gobsmacked with how she turned this plot into suspenseful thrills. I'm suffering severe whiplash! You know a book has you captived when you go to bed late and wake up early needing to finish it!

What should have been a relaxing weekend becomes a nightmare! When I read the synopsis, I was very excited for this book and it was pretty good. I love a secluded island mystery! I am giving this book 3.5 stars rounded down to 3. This book reminds me of an Agatha Christie novel where you know all the characters and they are "locked". in some place so it had to be one of them. The story was kind of chaotic and there was a lot going on from the 3 main couples, some of it seemed out of place. Though the ended wrapped things up somewhat well. I did enjoy the epilogues from the wives and women because it wrapped everything up and you found out why everything happened the way it did.
This is a very atmospheric book for several reasons. The location is a luxury hotel, in a beautiful island setting, off the coast of Devon. The descriptions of the rooms, the dining room, the bedrooms absolutely took me there. The island setting is inspirational, shades of Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” where the guests get bumped off one by one. The weather plays a big part in this story, stiflingly hot and oppressive or wildly, threateningly stormy just like the resort. So the background is set.
The people. Three couples – David and Sam on what should be an idyllic honeymoon, but there are already problems in this marriage. Becky and Josh, well we know there is something fragile about Becky, she needs protecting and Josh is there every minute of the way, when he’s not out running. Is he too protective? Daisy and Tom the perfect, beautiful people, trying to put their marriage back on track after a tragedy almost tore them apart.
When one of the waitresses is murdered the idyllic holidays start to unravel. Thrown together by suspicion and fear, the true character of the couples is revealed. The women bond, the men turn macho, competitive and more and more unlikeable. Is one of them a killer? If so will there be another murder? Trapped on the island the tensions rise with every page. The end was a shock. Not at all what I was expecting. All in all a truly great read.
