Ive read a few novels set in remote holiday locations where tensions bubble over and this is a very fine addition to that colection
The resort in question is an island which could be the one in the Agatha Christie novel And Then There Were None.. I got the feels for The Fitzgerald as I did for that hotel and I so want to go there now! I wouldn't like to find a dead body on the beach however as they did here. the couples on the island start to question themselves and each other and the whole novel sees them weaving webs of deceit and more.
Great atmosphere and sense of claustrophobia
All the holiday feels
Great fun
I quite enjoyed this book but it wasn’t what I was expecting really . It focused mainly on the relationships between three couples , the murder of a hotel employee and the assault of one of the couples . It was a bit slow in the middle and lacked a bit of suspense for me . It was worth a read though but only 4 stars this time , not as good as some of her previous books
The resort by Sue Watson is a perfect summer thriller! It takes place at a beautiful, secluded island resort called The Fitzgerald. The story follows three women on holiday with their three husbands. The idyllic atmosphere of a historic resort and blue seas is quickly interrupted by the discovery of a young bartenders body. Things quickly begin to unravel amongst the guests as they each begin to question who might be the murderer and if their husbands really are who they believe them to be.
Sue Watson does an amazing job at creating the perfect atmosphere for this book. She manages to create the perfect claustrophobic feeling of being trapped on a hot island with a murderer.
I enjoyed how each of the three women were so very different from each other, which is just what you would expect when meeting people on vacation.
A few parts were somewhat predictable but that certainly didn’t take away from the whole story.
I would definitely recommend this as a beach read this summer!
Utterly brilliant! I couldn't out this book down. Reminiscent of Agatha Christie's"And then there were none", a group of disparate strangers are thrown together on an exclusive island off Devon. No-one is quite as they seem and passions and secrets simmer behind the forced laughter and smiles. When a young girl's body is found at the base of the cliffs ,they are all under suspicion. Forced to remain in the island while the police investigate, the atmosphere becomes ever more claustrophobic with a pall of menace as heavy as the oppressive heat. Utterly enthralling, compelling and the ending blew me away!
I had to push myself to read this. There were no likeable characters. While three couples were on an island, a young woman dies. All the guests are ordered to stay through the investigation. None of the couples have a happy marriage. It was a difficult read. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.
Who doesn’t want to go to a beautiful resort? But is this the kind of one you want to go to? You will be hooked from page 1 and on your next vacation before you book that resort you want to stay at this book will make you think twice!
Once you arrive at this white jewel glittering on the ocean, you’ll never want to leave! It’s the hottest summer on record in the UK. There’s a beautiful white palace overlooking a turquoise sea. It’s Fitzgerald’s, an iconic Art Deco luxury resort. Darkness dwells within these walls though. It has a glamorously checkered past of celebrity deaths and mysteries. The local lore isn’t in the brochure.
We meet 3 couples on 3 different journeys. Sam and David are newlyweds on their honeymoon. Daisy and Tom(I see what you did there) have suffered a setback in their relationship and are at a crossroads. Becky and Josh have been together since high school and have kids. We’re not sure yet what they’re there to fix but it’s definitely something.
The only thing these 3 couples have in common is their interaction with Stella, a beautiful employee of Fitzgerald’s who’s juggling multiple jobs. Waitress, bartender, yoga instructor. These couples cross paths the morning Stella is found dead. Everyone had a motive here. The men have wandering eyes and some of the women are jealous.
As exits from the island close, these couples are pushed together and find comfort in each other quickly, and a little animosity. Stuck in a pressure cooker, more attacks happen and the lives of these 6 people intertwine more and more. The girls find kinship. The men find competition.
Who killed Stella? Was it an accident or murder? As clues unfold throughout the pages, you’ll be glued to your seat in suspense! Not everyone is going to make it home from the resort.
I loved this! I love Art Deco so I enjoyed the word picture painted for us of this resort and the characters grew on me so quickly. I was initially skeptical of 3 narrators but they were developed so well that it was seamless.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read and review!
While on holiday in a luxurious resort in Devon three couples form an uneasy bond when a tragedy means they are prisoners on paradise. Each have their own reasons for wanting to get away from it all and as the story unfolds we find these out
It’s told from the perspectives of the three women and while I usually enjoy multi POV books the fact that some were in first person and some in third made it seem disjointed
I do enjoy a closed room thriller, but the big twist I was waiting for at the end just didn’t come, and for me although the writing was good the ending just didn’t make much sense
As much as I love the description of this book and wanted to know what happened, it was a DNF due to the writing style and character development. I found it hard to pick this book up once I put it down. I didn’t find a connection nor liking to any of the characters in this story. Nonetheless, I'm still looking forward to checking out Watson's other works. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
"But there were dark secrets woven into the fabric of Fitzgerald’s, and what I didn’t see from my parasol on the beach was how the building thrummed with life and lust and revenge. And that summer made us so reckless, we never noticed, but along with the glamourous guests and tropical cocktails something malevolent was unwittingly welcomed in."
Three couples staying at a private luxury result, each unique and intriguing in their own ways, stumble upon a resort employee's dead body. Was it murder? Were any or all of them involved in some way?
After so many gasp-inducing bombshells, secrets uncovered, truths revealed, back stories told, I had no idea who had done what. The whole cast of characters were untrustworthy; all guilty and all innocent. The ending was utterly shocking and totally satisfying. Excellent read. Definitely recommend this one.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this arc for a truthful review. Ugh this story just fell flat for me. The husbands were a-holes, the wives didn’t have any courage or backbones for the degrading remarks by their husbands. I did like the story about being on an isolated island with murder, but the character development wasn’t there for me. I did like the epilogue from each of the wives.
It's a bit predictable and the characters were a tad irritating and ridiculous but but but..... if you don't overthink it then the overall plot is alright! There was a bit too much dialogue for my.likimg and mot enough action but that's just my personal preference and other people will love that about it. It's a decent way to pass a few hrs but probably not reinventing the wheel
The Fitzgerald is a luxury hotel set on a sparkling beach with gourmet food, luxurious rooms and the perfect getaway for three couples who each have their own reasons for getting away. The only problem is the dead body which was found on the beach; a young woman who worked at the hotel. This book is the "closed room" mystery style made popular by Agatha Christie but lacks a sense of doom and reads more like a story about marriage and relationships. The three women that serve as narrators are:: Sam, a hairdresser newly married to a handsome rich man who constantly puts her down, Daisy, the beautiful owner of a modeling agency who is grieving the death of her unborn child and Becky, the mother of twins who has health problems. These women become friends and confidantes as they are forced to stay at the hotel by the police investigation.
The book is dialogue heavy and much of the conversations between the characters seem stilted. The husband are all awful and the women are the typical British heroines who are afraid of their own shadow and hiding and whimpering. The action picks up towards the end and there are a couple of twists but would have preferred more clues and action and less monologues by the characters. I have read and enjoyed Sue Watson books before but this was not a favorite. Thanks to NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for a review.
SUCH A GREAT BOOK! I absolutely loved this psychological thriller set in what appears to be the perfect holiday location (I’ll be careful where I choose to go on my holidays from now on!!). I could not put this book down as I was desperate to find out what happened. There were so many twists and turns along the way and I just loved Sue Watson’s descriptive writing and how the suspense built without giving anything away too soon!
It’s the first time I’ve read a Sue Watson book and safe to say, I will definitely be reading all the others now!

🤔💭: First off thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my eARC and I am voluntarily leaving my review! This was the first book I’ve read by this author and overall it was a pretty good book. I enjoyed the premise of the storyline based at a secluded high-end resort with a potential murderer on the loose. Three couples meet at this resort and they all form a special bond when a hotel employee is found dead on the premises and soon everyone becomes a suspect. They are all trapped there while the investigation is taking place and everyone’s true colors and secrets start coming to light. The story shifts narratives between the wives and I just couldn’t get into any of these characters, and it uwas frustrating how these female characters just put up with some crazy shenanigans from their spouses. Overall this one just fell a little flat for me, but wouldn’t discourage anyone from checking it out!
I read The Resort in one day! The plot was absolutely fascinating, and I couldn’t put it down.
We follow 3 couples at a luxurious resort on a remote island. Each has their fair share of drama; from cancer, to lies, to stillborn births, and everything in between. It doesn’t take long before the body of a beautiful hotel employee is found.
Every single husband is a prime suspect - they all had a motive, and everyone was lying to everyone. I absolutely LOVED not knowing who did it.
Now, the whole midnight swim drama was rather predictable - but I loved how it all played out. The epilogue parts were very well done. But like I said, I had Becky’s epilogue nailed down. It was a little too predictable with a big red bow on it. That said, I was caught completely off guard by Sam’s epilogue!! Well done, Sue Watson!!! 👏🏻

"The Resort" is a pulpy fast read that would be best consumed, well, at a beach resort. The plot moves quickly but is somewhat predictable. It's a fun locked-room mystery but on an island.
Check out this vacation themed thriller. Three couples go on a vacation to a fancy resort and wind up becoming the best of friends. But when murder and sexual assault wind up happening on island you start to wonder …Can you trust someone you just met ? Can you even trust your husband? Continue reading to find out! This book was pretty good! I definitely didn’t see the ending coming! Make sure you read ALL the epilogues !
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of The Resort. OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! This book was a WINNER from the cover to the very end. Sometimes you hit the jackpot and get everything that you can think of in one book. This was Fantastic!!! The ending was so NOT what I expected, WILD!!!! Enjoy you lucky ones who are reading this book now. Thank you Sue Watson for a book I will Not forget!!
A couple is pulled into a police investigation when their waitress from the night before is found murdered. Nothing is what it seems and nobody can be trusted as the truth is sought ...
This was an edge of your seat thriller with plenty of twists and uncertainty all the way through! Left me wondering what I might not know about my partner ....
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
