This was a wild ride! It was exactly what I expected from Sue Watson! As an avid reader I thought I had it all figured out! Boy I was wrong no one was who I thought they were. I was hooked from Chapter 1 and did not want to put this one down!

I always enjoy reading books written by Sue Watson. The Resort is no exception. When Sam and David arrive at the Fitzgerald's resort, off the coast of England, they are thrilled to be spending their honeymoon at this elegant remote spot. They quickly meet Becky and Josh and Daisy and Tom. They become friends as they share meals and drinks each day. Each dysfunctional couple has secrets that they slowly begin to share with each other. Meanwhile, a waitress is found murdered on the deserted beach. The island is locked down and the police will not allow anyone to leave as each person is questioned. Secrets threaten to destroy each couple as the investigation continues. Though the reader may guess who the likely murderer is, this reader was wrong. I love when the writer truly surprises me. A great read!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this pre-publication manuscript.

Three couples find themselves at an exclusive island resort for various reasons - honeymoon, reconnecting after tragedy and 20th anniversary. Not all is well with any of these couples and their trip gets extended when one of the workers gets murdered, as all are under suspicion.

3.5 stars.

I liked the resort setting. The story was sort of interesting because I really didn't know where it was going and I wanted to know. Many of the characters were loathsome and it annoyed me that the women were with them. I did not see the ending coming. There were several reveals that were surprising. Not my favorite from this author, but not bad.

The Resort is a good book that keeps you guessing. The storyline felt a little short to me, but still a decent book. I did like that it was written from multiple viewpoints.

Captivating Beach or pool read!
Three couples travel to an exclusive island off the coast of London. After a murder on the property, the 3 couples band together.
Could one of these 6 people be the murderer? Or is the murderer an employee?

This was a good book & I liked the premise of being trapped on an island with a potential murderer on the loose. Watson has used the weather as a clever portent to danger and that could be felt through the pages. I liked how she showed that no matter how well a person we know there is always a side that we are incognizant of even if it is our own partner. The entire time everyone was left doubting everyone and I kept guessing who the perpetrator was till the end. True to its genre, it definitely had psychological aspects that played with the reader's mind.
But I felt the story lacked the thrill that goes with a mystery book. Maybe it is so because I like fast paced thrillers and this one didn't pick up the pace until 40% - 45% of the book. The fact that the chapters kept shifting between first person narrative and third person narrative was a tad bit disconcerting. It did not help with segueing from one chapter to the next. Also, I felt like there were a few chapters that were really thrilling and ended in quite the suspense but the next chapter immediately dampened the mood. The domestic aspects of the couples told were presented in a dull manner and maybe even told in a manner that felt more like gossip rather than something that might be important to the investigation in hand.
The ending did justice and tied up the loose ends pretty well. I would have loved it more if the police had solved the murder and then the story revealed. Nevertheless, it was an intriguing plot line. There is a lot of potential and I would definitely love to read more of Watson's books.

I absolutely loved this book! It kept my constantly kept my attention and I didn't predict the ending.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me, for the following reasons.
There was no character development, I couldn't connect to one person in this book. Everyone was unlikable in a very stereotypical way. I was waiting for more layers and never got them.
The way the police handled it seemed incredibly unrealistic and so cheesy that I could not go with it. Some of the characters mentioned received no particular scene in the book, so it felt like a missed opportunity to make the book more complex.
I did like the setting, a summer resort for rich people, but it did not vibe and had no atmosphere. The only exception is the last scenes at the beach.
The plot itself was there, as they say, "bones of the story were good". But I ended up with more questions about why and how, than answers.
Overall, this would be good as a getaway way to relax your mind. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a gifted ARC.

✨Book review✨
The Resort
By Sue Watson

This was a first for me from this Author and I had really high hopes. The synopsis sounded so good, and right up my alley!

Sadly I felt this was less of a story, and more of a forced dialogue between feuding couples. There was no depth in the characters for me. Do people actually talk to each other like this? I felt like I was watching a bad movie play out inside my head.

The relationships seemed phoney to me, with emphasis that 2 out of 3 couples had been together less than a year….but surely a relationship in that time frame should have a basis of some respect, should it not?

It frustrated me that the female characters seemed to have no backbones, and they were okay with having husbands that spoke poorly of them, and flirted with other women in front of them.

The storyline had potential, but was predictable, and not as exciting as I had hoped. Unnecessary stretched out arguments become the basis of this book.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This is such a truly gripping thriller, so many twists and turns and an ending that is SO worth waiting for!

The story starts with 3 couples who visit an exclusive English resort on a small island, each couple has their own back story as to why they are there, and these are all fascinating and tragic in themselves. When a barmaid meets her untimely death the island is locked down and the couples get to know each other a whole lot better... So much follows but I won't elaborate because really, this book just needs to be read!!!

This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good dose of plot twist with their psychological fiction. Another great read from Sue Watson, an author on a run of great from.

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

Ok. This was a fun who Dunit.
Very well written by Sue, who's twists and turns had me guessing untill the very end.

At times lustful, funny and perhaps a peepshow into the real lives of those around us, and even us!

I enjoyed how different chapters were written in the third person, and then switching around to the first person. Perspectives.

A solid 3.5.

Best read sitting next to a cliff on an island sipping champagne.

The resort by Sue Watson starts out pretty slow in the beginning but ends up being a fast paced thriller with lots of twists and surprising turns.

The resort follows three couples Josh and Becky, Sam and David, and Daisy and Tom. This book follows the perspective of the wives in each relationship. Sam and David are newlyweds on their honeymoon. Daisy and Tom are trying to rekindle their marriage and forget about the past. Josh and Becky are trying to celebrate life while they still can. Each couple end up meeting at this resort on their vacation and take a liking to each other. Each with their own set of relationship issues. At the very beginning this seems like the vacation of a lifetime until daisy and Sam stumble upon a deceased resort worker "Stella foster" below a cliff in the sea. Everyone panics because now they are stuck on this island and there is a killer on the loose. Everyone is now a suspect and no one feels safe. After the police arrive from the mainlands to start the investigation they make everyone stay on the island until they wrap up the investigation. In the meantime more things start to go wrong as wives start to question husband's and husband's start to question wives The resort starts to feel more like a prison and no one can be trusted. The only thing that bugged me about this book was at the end they all went their own separate ways back to reality and everyday life but never exchanged phone numbers or anything but then all of a sudden Daisy calls Becky and wants to meet up? I felt that part was missing from the book and the end was rushed a bit. Other than that I really enjoyed it. Where is Josh going every night on his runs? Why was David talking to Stella the night of her murder? Is anyone who they say they are? Will everyone make it off the resort together? Check out summer 2022s must read book... Thank you #Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read The Resort. All opinions are my own.

I was left speechless at this end of The Resort. In the end he wasn't what I was thinking it was. Three married couples go on holiday where there murder and who done it. I was thinking it was someone, but turns out I was way wrong and surprised at the end.

The Resort was slow for me at first and I kept getting confused who was with who, but I eventually figured it out and after that the book got amazing. There was twist and turns that will keep you glued.

The ending is making me want more, will there be another book? I hope so.

I enjoyed this book alot.

Three couples are at a luxurious hotel on a secluded island. While they are there a beautiful waitress is found dead in the sand. Did one of the husbands kill her? They all seemed to hardly take their eyes off her and their wives noticed this. Some likeable characters and some not likeable at all in this book. When it gets to the end of the book it really is a WOW moment. A very enjoyable book.

YOUR DREAM GETAWAY OR YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE?

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a tendency to choose books based on the cover, and the title. I think this one fell into all of those traps for me - I didn't however, expect the resort to be lying off the Devonshire Coast however, and I think that in itself added a unique element to the book as all too often books like this are set in far off countries and are therefore somewhat unrelatable.

I imagine Fitzgerald's (the hotel in the book) to be based on somewhere like Burgh's in a secluded hotel on an island off the Devonshire coast. I don't know about anyone else but when reading I love being able to use websites to be able to get a clearer picture of things!

Anyway, from early on this is proving to be one of those books which is absolutely addictive. I am loving the characters and definitely want to learn more about them, there are a couple of key players who I instantly took a dislike to and I am wondering if my gut instincts are correct!

I am also looking forward to seeing how the prologue links in as there are a few things hinted at in there which have somewhat piqued my curiosity.

Once again many thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book and I will be checking in soon with another update!

Review Part 2

So we have a incredible hotel just of the Devonshire coast full of rich, glamorous and "beautiful" people.

We have three couples, all of whom are staying at the hotel for special occasions, escapism from real life, or to recover.

We then have the unexplained death of a staff member, an attack on a hotel guest, the death of another guest.

Finally we have the privilege of learning the secrets of the couples - whether they are worried about not being good enough, unable to have children, or they are terminally ill.

All I can say is wow, having finished this book last night I kind of want to re read the last few chapters as there were so many twists, turns and upsets towards the end that I almost want to make sure I have understood what has happened!

This is a book where rather than falling in love with any of the characters I found myself strongly disliking them and I just wanted to know if I was right in feeling the way I did.

Having never read a Sue Watson book previously I will be checking out some of her earlier books as this one was excellent. The characters, the location, the details, Watson has done a fantastic job in bringing each of these things together!
