📚📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖📚
📖 Book - The Resort
✍️ Author - Sue Watson
📕 Publisher - Bookouture
🗓 Publication Date - 24th June 2022
A beautiful luxury hotel, on its own island. What more could you want? 3’couple find themselves spending a lot of time together.
When a waitress from the hotel is found dead in the beach rocks, everyone is under suspicion and have to be questioned by the police. Each of the couples seem to have some sort of suspicions about there own partners. Not all couples are as happy as they appear on the outside! The cracks start to show!!
The story is told through each of the main characters.
This hotel sounded beautiful! The author Sue Watson also shared some photos of the hotel that she visited, that was the inspiration for this story. It was exactly as I imagined, with lots of Art Deco!
I don’t know how many times I changed my mind, who I thought was responsible……… and that ending! Ahhhh you got me Sue Watson …. Didn’t see that coming!

3 couples that have never met gather at a posh resort on an island and become holiday friends.
Sam and David are on their honeymoon after only a short courtship of 6 months. How well can you really know someone in such a short amount of time? He's well off and she never had money, so she scooped him up quickly before he could realize he didn't want her. Sam has major self-esteem issues. David gave me a sleazeball vibe right away.
Daisy and Tom are a confident and appealing looking couple, but she's older by 8 years and having a tough time coping after losing a baby. They're away to try to work on their marriage. Can they let go of the sadness they are both feeling and find their way back to each other?
Becky and Josh are away to take Becky's mind off some issues she's having. Josh is always insisting Becky can't drink, needs to take pills and rest. Is he controlling or is something else going on? For all the running Josh does I'd expect his legs to be made of steel.
Stella is a bartender, yoga instructor and a waitress. Easy on the eyes and everyone notices, which in turns makes everyone a suspect when she turns up dead on the beach.
All of the characters were maddening at one point or another. There's plenty of jealousy, secrets, suspicion, insecurity, drama and lies going on that it'll make your head spin.
I do like that it went back and forth between the characters perspectives. Each chapter ending leaves you on a bit of a cliffhanger, which made me want to turn the pages quickly to try to keep up and see if I had everything figured out. I had an inkling right away about who was involved in each little mystery. I second guessed what I thought was going on so many times because of this particular writing style, but in the end my initial thoughts were correct. I even had the hat wearer pegged from the get go.
One thing that seemed odd to me was that it was always so hot in the rooms ~ isn't this a ritzy resort that can ensure the rooms have adequate air conditioning? And if it's so hot all the time why are people wearing hoodies?
This was a quick read and fast paced too. A new to me author and I'll be on the lookout for her other books in the future.
TW ~ rape, suicide, assault, miscarriage, infertility
This book with excellent. It reminded me of the show "White Lotus Hotel" because it's about a beautiful secluded location with lots of secrets. This book is a winner because the drama and intrigue are dialed up, you will want to keep reading since all the chapters end with a bit of mystery. Thanks for the advance review copy. Bravo!
BOOKWORMS REVIEW:
I love books located on Islands,at resorts or villas..you just know there's gonna be drama!
3 couples at this idyllic resort, one on honeymoon, one needing time away following q loss, and the third trying to resuscitate a marriage. The resort is only accessible by boat so its remote and isolated. Things are going great for all couples until one of the employees turns up dead...And the killer is more than likely amongst them on the island. The characters weren't altogether likeable so I kept changing who I thought the murderer was. I wasn't right. Plenty of tension, drama and intrigue. A Great read again from Sue Watson.

When a dream trip becomes your worst nightmare…
Fitzgeralds is a luxury hotel on Burgh Island, just off the South West coast of England which has a very dark past and is the perfect spot for three couples to have a well earned break, for Sam and David it's their honeymoon, for Daisy and Tom it's a place to recover from a traumatic event and for Becky and Josh it's their anniversary, the six of them are naturally drawn together when the young waitress Stella is found dead on the beach and everyone immediately becomes a suspect, their departure from the island is vetoed by the police until they complete their investigations, but what exactly happened that night and who is responsible for this tragic event?
The Resort is a multi perspective story told by Sam, Daisy and Becky, it's a tense thriller which had me hooked from the first page. The characters are authentic, all with secrets waiting to be revealed and Watson portrays their personalities so perfectly. I love how the author provides a backstory to each of the couples throughout the book, giving us a better understanding of their lives as they are now. I took an immediate dislike to David, his treatment of Sam, considering they were newlyweds, was abominable and I failed to understand what attracted her to him, he was a complete pig! This latest work of fiction, in true Watson style, keeps the reader guessing throughout with twist after shocking twist and an ending that you definitely will not see coming. Another belter of a read from this best selling author which I devoured in less than 24 hours and you will not want to miss.
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
Whenever I’m told that this author has a new book coming out I don’t even need to read the blurb, all I know is it’s a must read for me. So with great excitement I started reading ‘The Resort’. After the prologue I was completely and utterly gripped by this utterly compelling psychological suspense thriller. The characters were for the most part horrible people and I loved this. Yea I’m one of these who love horrible characters in books and to me a really good author can write horrible characters. So going back to the actual story, well it had me totally and utterly engrossed. Only for ‘real life’ got in the way I’d have read this much quicker. Sometimes in a book like this where we know someone is the guilty person. I can suss them out quite early on. However with this one I had so many suspects I couldn’t figure out in my head who was the guilty one. The Resort for me was another brilliant read by Sue Watson and one which I highly recommend.
Three couples embark on a dream vacation that is anything but. A waitress is found dead, and the police quickly confirm that it was murder. In short order, each of the resort's guests begin to doubt one another. In fact, doubts leads to accusations, proving that there is a large measure of distrust amongst all of them.
One couple is there to deal with life after loss. Another couple is there on their honeymoon. Another couple's actions cause concern for the others involved. What is everyone's story? More importantly, since there are only six resort guests and some staff, at least one of them is a murderer, thus a long shadow of doubt is cast on just about everyone. The resort is accessible only by boat and the police insist that everyone stays put until all are questioned, especially since motive could easily be assigned to any of them.
Sue Watson is an incredibly gifted writer. As she penned this domestic thriller, it was easy to find fault with each of the guests, but quite difficult to imagine who the likely killer was. In fact, Ms. Watson created a bevy of unlikable characters, thus increasing the difficulty of sorting out the killer's identity. By so doing, this book proved intriguing from beginning to end. Considering the twists in this book, as well as misdirection, this was definitely a book designed to keep even the most keen of readers on their toes.
Waiting for the shoe to drop in this compelling read made for a bumpy, albeit enjoyable ride. In fact, not only was the drama more than intense, the ending grabbed me by the throat and truly caught me by surprise, especially as this book was written in first person, from more than one point of view. This made it even more difficult to guess the killer. Job well done, Ms. Watson. It is with bated breath that I await your next read.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
*there are trigger warnings for this book, these include infertility, miscarriage, rape and suicide*

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 ok stars.
The premise sounded great with this one but was disappointing for me. All the characters were annoying, unrealistic or unlikeable. I almost wanted there to be more murders so we could lose a couple more of them.
The book started well with a good level of suspense but I think it would have been better to know a bit more about Stella at the start.
The book lagged in the middle once the police got involved but then towards the end picked up again but as by then you have worked out who the bad guy is, it’s just about tying it all up.
I did enjoy the epilogues but found Becky’s calmness about it all a bit odd given her circumstances.
I love this authors writing, some fantastic books of hers I have given 5 stars for. This one was written just as well with the short snappy chapters and real tension keeping you on the edge of your seat. Unfortunately I wasn’t hooked on the storyline and the characters were awful but that’s the intention in this book to make you suspect everyone. I was surprised at the ending which was good as it wasn’t predictable at all.
Three couples on holiday at a secluded island resort. It should have been the experience of the lifetime, but when a resort employee turns up dead and then one of the wives gets attacked their dream vacations become a nightmare. Soon the wives begin to question not only their new friendships but also start to wonder how well they know their own husbands. Sue Watson’s The Resort is engaging tale with plenty of twists and turns, but it was not without some issues. Without posting any spoilers I will simply say there were a few procedural elements that I found a bit hard to swallow and I was not a fan of certain characters, but overall it’s a solid thriller. Thanks so much to Bookoutre and NetGalley for allowing to me to read and review an eARC of The Resort.

mind-blowing twists that you cannot resist. Sue is not afraid to take on darker elements of high tension and drama, which has led to her massive popularity. Sue Watson is one of my favorite authors!
The Fitzgerald’s is an exclusive, expensive art deco palace, now hotel, from the 1920’s and sits on an island in the middle of the sea. It also has been plagued with stories of deaths that have occurred there.
Sam and David are enjoying their honeymoon here. Sam isn’t as comfortable in these posh surroundings as David is which embarrasses her. Sam’s mother has early-onset dementia. David’s ex-wife was consumed with jealousy, accusing David of ruining her life.
Tom and Daisy are on vacation. They have had a difficult time trying to accept the loss of their baby. He is 10 years younger than her and her chances of having another baby are slim to none. Daisy is a lovely and trim woman who works as the art director for a glossy magazine.
Becky and Josh are here for a vacation as well. Becky is on some anti-depressant medication and can’t seem to relax for worrying about their children and family. Josh is strict about what she can eat and drink. He is a runner and loves to run miles around the island twice a day.
Cell service is impossible on the island, however, in case of an emergency, people can contact the hotel reception.
At what was to be a yoga lesson, the couples all meet. The yoga teacher, Stella, who also works the bar and as a waitress, doesn’t show up for the class. Daisy and Sam decide to take a walk down the beach and find the body of Stella, the missing yoga teacher. The three couples become closer as the days pass with the police interviewing people about Stella’s death. Who could have killed her and why?
There were a few times in reading this book that I felt like it was becoming a bit tedious, but it’s the ending that wrapped up fairly quickly that really makes it a good read. A lot of truths come out that may leave one in awe. Some of the characters really irked me which made me wonder if they were guilty. Take your own guess when you read this. Enjoy!
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Unfortunately this was kind of a miss for me. Not a total miss, but a 85% one. The characters were quite flat and one dimensional, the dialogue was so artificial it was laughable at points and the plot was definitely grasping at straws. The only thing that saved it for me was the ending.
3 couples get Locked down on an exclusive vacation island when a member of the staff of the island turns up dead. While the bumbling investigation goes on, the overbearing men and their whimpering wives deal with the fallout. The island is shut off from the mainland-very little internet signal and no tvs or radios.
Each chapter was supposed to be told from a different character perspective, but they never really had their own voices, so I found myself having to go back to the beginning of the chapter to make sure who it was that was supposed to be talking, which was very frustrating because it took me out of the story.
The premise had a lot of promise, but the execution was kind of a flop for me. There are several triggers to be aware of as well: domestic violence, infertility, sexual assault
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
✔️ the setting and the overall plot were really good
✔️ good and unexpected ending
✖️ three couples, three narrators, and I honestly didn’t like any of them which made it just an ok story for me .
I do love Sue Watson's books and The Resort is no exception. Set in a luxurious hotel on an island in Devon it all seems idyllic until a body is found. There are plenty of twists and turns that kept me hooked and I did not put it down from start to finish. I highly recommend The Resort.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
Fitzgerald's is a beautiful resort that has a history of unfortunate tragedy. Three couples meet while on holiday, each one celebrating special events. Sam and David, Becky and Josh, and Daisy and Tom. Each couple has their issues, but they all form a bond when an employee from the hotel named Stella is found dead on the beach. Everyone instantly becomes a suspect. What happened to Stella? Did one of these couples have something to do with her death?
I always look forward to a new book by Sue Watson. She is one of my very favorite authors. As usually, she had me on the edge of my seat trying to solve this mystery. I really enjoyed it and read in a days time. It was a hard one for me to put down, even for a few minutes. If you are looking for a quick and easy read, grab a copy of THE RESORT and see if you can figure out the mystery! I did not, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ending.

I’m a huge Sue Watson fan an as is her usual fashion she had me hooked from the first word. It’s a little different to her other reads but just as enjoyable. Perfect pace and just enough information when needed to keep you wanting more. I was so engaged in each of the characters stories and where the plot was going as it really wasn’t clear to begin with but that really added to the experience. Watson writes really well developed characters but I must admit some of these ones I found unlikeable and I wanted to shake others and tell them to “cop on 😉”. I was so looking forward to the revelations as I suspected everyone at one point of another - TRUST NO ONE 🤔. This is another cracker from Sue Watson and would definitely recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read #TheResort
An idyllic Island resort, a fantastic hotel cut off from the world where luxury awaits…..3 couples, all with secrets, lies and personality deficits arrive for what they think will be a wonderful break…..and then the murder starts
I would describe this as a psychological/ whodunit and it really could be anyone as they all appear to have motive and the chance to commit the dastardly crimes that are happening on the Island, as we get to know the 6 I found it increasingly hard to like most of them and imagined they all had a hand in it….the revelation and the ending were a juicy surprise!
The author again writes a good descriptive laden read, character rich, atmospheric and tense and will keep you guessing through to the end
