Neverlanders by Tom Taylor was a fun remix of the classic Peter Pan story. I liked that this story was less dialogue heavy, and more focused on the illustrations, which to me, brought Neverland and the Otherland to life. There were some fun plot twists, and the characters were enjoyable. The story read very quick. The illustrations were easy to flip back through as they are so well done. I would reread this story again, and I have already recommended it to a few friends.

I received an eARC from Penguin Teen through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

This was a fun revamp on the classic Peter Pan story. I especially enjoyed the superhero-esque aspect of it. Reminded me a little of Big Hero 6 which I love!

Overall I wouldn’t call this a retelling. It’s more a new take on a sequel.

The characters were wonderfully diverse and has interesting personalities.

The twist with Abernathy and Robb at the end was amazing.

It’s a cute comic and I would recommend it to people who like Peter Pan.

I always enjoy a good retelling and Peter Pan is one that I’ve always enjoyed. The main thing that stands out is how this author used this book to include a more diverse cast and how he even took the liberty to add a fun twist to the classic characters and reimagined them in different lights.

Overall, I think this was a fun book that a lot of people will enjoy. It felt both reminiscent and new. The illustrations were beautiful and unique with details that helped bring the story to life. There were some plot holes that I wish were filled, but it didn’t deter away the overall story. Thank you to Penguin Teen and NetGalley for this ARC

**Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Teen for the eARC in exchange for an honest review of this title. This in no way changed my rating**

I love Peter Pan retellings, so I was interested in this title. Neverlanders is a found family story about a group of orphans who end up in Neverland, waging war against pirates and goblins. Peter Pan has gone missing, the lost boys are dead, and this new group of lost ones is here to save Neverland.

To start with, I was very intrigued by the diverse cast of characters included. Neverland, despite being a refuge for "lost" children, in general, is usually pretty melanin-deficient. So it was nice to see a cast of characters that is more reflective of the children of the world. I will say, I was let down by one character because I immediately knew what was going to happen with them. It's a common trope, but it was a little frustrating to continue to see.

The other thing I really enjoyed was the "twist" characterization of characters we love and expect from Neverland. Tinkerbell shows up quite a bit as a fairy with face paint and a shaved head. She's characterized as a sailor-mouthed war general, which I haven't seen before. I liked it a lot. I won't get into the other two because I don't want to spoil anything, but the other expected characters are there and similarly had unique characterizations for this story.

I enjoyed it, for the most part. The one character just kind of disappointed me and it felt like they were let off pretty easy for what happened. Overall, an interesting retelling of Peter Pan that I could see many readers enjoying.
