What The Flaming Starbursts?! 😳😯😯🤯🤯

Well holy canoodle doodle! Uhm, excuse eh moi! What in the actual double floof?! This book was so fast paced, so intense, so unreal that I felt I could barely keep up in the best way. I absolutely adored the fact Whelan incorporated so much of Hungary history, landmarks etc into this book that felt so realistic and helped keep me into it. I adored how seemlessly, smoothly & easily everything jived together with her writing & the plot. I honestly didn't see any of it coming and was blown away! Some sensational writing & a so well executed plot. I ate this up like my Dad's homemade Mac & Cheese - quickly, endlessly & overstuffed after being so satisfied.
Nelli, originally from Hungary, is living the true American dream that so many people desire, perhaps even more so for immigrants from other countries. She's happily married with Clint, living in Las Vegas with their son, Ryan. Nelli receives an invite to attend a high school reunion and decides to go back and attend. However, while there she disappears and Clint is determined to find her, thus travelling there. But as he explores, this may lead him down a very dark, sinister road to old secrets, lies, & a deadly past he could never imagined would link to his wife.
The ending was unbelievable and so well done - my emotions were all over the place! The twists are crazy, the thrills are spine-tingling and the constant sinister mood from Nelli sure kept me on edge. She knows how to keep you guessing, to keep you from getting there until she wants you to and she delivers it perfectly when she does. This is the first book for me by this author, but I guarantee it won't be my last!

Thank you to NetGalley & Burbank Books for this ARC.

3.75⭐️ Which I have rounded up

This is a new author for me. It’s a domestic psychological thriller/mystery fusion.

Nelli and a group of friends made a mistake, getting away with it for 20 years, they are all bound together by this mistake.

When Nelli returns to Hungary to attend a reunion she goes missing. Her husband Clint is desperate to find her.
It grabbed my attention straight away! It’s first person narrative so the reader is right in the action with hints being given to the reader to explain Nelli’s actions in returning home. It’s told from Nellies and Clint’s POV. Clint controls more of the narrative.
Clint is badly prepared he has no contact details of Nelli’s family or friends. He enrolled his brother Barn to help him in the search.

I liked Nelli and Barn. I wasn’t keen on Clint he was too self obsessed and too keen chasing the money. His character developed for the better throughout the book.

I felt that Nelli’s mental letter to Clint felt a bit contrived.
I didn’t feel that the secret was that bad, I’d expected something much darker to cause the friends so many life long problems, so it wasn’t totally convincing.

I enjoyed it, it kept me entertained and engaged, but not totally gripped. I liked the ending, although I’d guessed the outcome early on. It didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Clint has a good marriage, a wonderful son, and a profitable job. When his wife goes to her high school reunion in her home country of Hungary, Clint takes it all in stride. When she stops responding to his texts and phone calls, he knows something is up. His search begins for his wife, but ends with the truth about everything.

I really enjoyed this thriller, I liked the field trip through Hungary looking for Clint’s wife Nelli in her home country. I honestly didn’t see how this was all going to end and I don’t want to spoil it so I’ll say no more! Thank you Netgalley, Burbank Books and AB Whelan for this eARC!
