I thought this was such a cute manga! This book was so difficult to read because I felt so bad for Pen 🤣 He works so hard and does an amazing job cooking and cleaning and then Hayakawa comes along and always unintentionally ruins Pen's hard work 😅 The artwork is so cute and Pen's such an expressive penguin. Hayakawa's friends were fun to read about as well and I could totally relate to the one who was obsessed with how cute Pen was. I highly recommend this manga if you need some cuteness to lighten your day. I couldn't stop smiling while reading this 😅
I really like the cover and the description sounds interesting. But I couldn't get the clue of the story. The jokes weren't funny and the story was flat. The characters are strange and only the penguin is sweet and hard-working. His owner is a coldhearted person and sometimes lazy. This manga wasn't mine.
This was hilarious and I loved reading it! Comedic gold! Pen-Chan was so cute and I loved how his owner just dismissed a lot of stuff he did for him because he’s unaware of things. Totally perfect comedy! Even the shorts at the end were funny.
Penguin & House (vol. 1) is about Hayakawa and his pet penguin Pentaro. Pentaro takes care of his owner by doing all of the house work. Throughout this volume we see how hard Pentaro works to help how Hayakawa.
This was pretty good. The art was nice and Pentaro was really cute in how he wanted to take care of his owner. It's a basic slice of life, so not much actually happens but I still overall enjoyed it.
Very cute! Love the penguin so much! Hayakawa was a little flighty and I feel doesn't help the penguin enough. I really enjoyed Pen the penguin. I'll definitely read more.
This is my first time reading Manga, It was a cute book, but not my usual reading material, so it was hard for me to get invested. The artwork is nice and the stories are short. Nice easy read.
Penguin & House is such a cute little slice of life comic that follows the happenings of one little penguin who just wants the best for his owner.
Honestly, it should really be called 'Penguin Nanny' cause this little dude is literally all over the place to take care of his person. No chore is out of the realm of possibility: Cooking? Check! Cleaning? Check! Laundry? Check! Owner forgets his lunch, bet little dude doesn't take it to him. I can't tell if the owner is just one of those ditzy characters, but Pen is so underappreciated. I love seeing the love he gets from the friends though.
Overall, I really enjoyed this. It was super adorable and I'm not just saying that because I love penguins. This was a solid 3 star read. It was quirky, entertaining, and just the perfect amount of lightness.
It's out now so go check it out!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me access to this book to read. I have seen this online so I was intrigued to be accepted to read this as an eARC.
I thought this novel was intreasting as I have not seen anything like this before so I wanted to read it but when I finished I was a little confused but I also felt happy and that this book was so cute and kawaii that I didn't really mind that there wasn't really a plot or a character arc. I am not saying there wasn't a plot just it was lacking in comparison to others but it makes up for this in cuteness that just fills you with love for pen the penguin. I thought that pen was adorable and that relationships between him and the other characters was progressive throughout the novel. I would read more of this series in the future as it is quick to read and takes you out of reality into this universe while you are reading.
A cute first entry into a fun slice of life series; mute human dummy and hardworking underappreciated roommate. Feels rather odd couple-ish.
Pen-chan has melted my heart! I’m a sucker for light-hearted slice-of-life manga, and this one is no exception. Hayakawa owns a little penguin who is an exemplary chef and excels at most things he tries, but somehow Hayakawa is the only person not to notice it. I like the humour and secondary characters, they add a layer to the story that makes it more charming. Definitely give it a try if you need a smile!
Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC.
Penguin & House vol. 1 was light-hearted, random, and humorous. Definitely will continue reading this series!
Thank you Kodansha and NetGalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review!
If you are searching for a very light and fast read and a story that has a cute animal as a main character, well Penguin & House is perfect for you. Basically Akiho Ieda tells the everyday life of Pen the penguin and his friend Hayakawa, who is a human. Pen loves Hayakawa deeply and does everything he can to please his friend : cleaning, cooking, and other many wonderful things that only a super penguin is capable of. But Hayakawa is everything but grateful. And the poor animal is often left distraught after each short individual story.
By using secondary characters, Akiho Ieda reveals the absurdity of the situation : all are amazed by Pen’s capabilities and the only person that does not appreciate them is Hayakawa. I do believe the author wanted to denounce abusive relationships in his story, where the wife or girlfriend does everything in the house and is not acknowledged for it. Using humour as a driver, he describes simple situations that we may all have experienced at least one time in our life. More than once, I was irritated with Hayakawa. It is a cute and fun read, yes, but with many layers of understanding, which makes it appreciable by readers of various ages.
Is it possible for a story about a penguin who cooks and cleans and can doing anything -- is it possible for that to be bad? I don't think so. Pen is adorable and his human is a bit of an idiot, and that's a fun combination.
My only issue is that there is another current manga with a really similar premise, and as much as I try not to compare, it was really hard not to spend the whole time thinking about how much better the OTHER manga is. And if you know, you know.
Super cute manga! I really enjoyed this overall, I thought the penguin was hilarious and had so many fun interactions. I only wish the individual stories were a little bit longer and it wasn’t back and white! I think that would’ve made it way more enjoyable
This manga was simple and funny, that’s what makes it work. I had a good time reading it. And we all have this friend who is obsessed and full of love for our pets.
Such a FEEL GOOD manga LOADED with tons of CUTENESS
Personal Ratings : 4.5🌟
If you're a fan of mangas like The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 1 or Sue & Tai-chan, Vol. 1 or even A Man and His Cat, Vol. 1, this manga is definitely it for you! It was wholesome and just a very, normal, everyday life scenario of a pet penguin that is capable of doing everything and an owner who is basically a klutz.
The drawings in here is so CUTEEEE and it was WHOLESOME! I loved how even the owner can look like he didn't appreciate his pet, he loved him in his own way. Penko, or Pen, the penguin is just an adorable character overall. You can't help but love him and adore him :') The fact that HE'S JUST CAPABLE OF DOING ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING makes it cuter! I loved that its somehow on family relationships and focused on friendship!
Highly recommended if you're looking for a light read because it was just so adorable!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Kodansha comics for this ARC
This book is adorable and extremely fun in a sadly relatable manner.
Pen is a hardworking and considerate penguin that lives with his friend Hayakawa. He does all the housework and is always doing little things to show Hayakawa that he cares. Hayakawa is an airhead who never notices all the hard work that Pen does and ever more rarely thanks him. There are moments when you can see that Hayakawa really does care for Pen, and it's thanks to those that the story remains fun and not just the toils of an unappreciated individual.
The reason why I say that it's sadly relatable is that I'm convinced that poor Pen is a stand-in for a wife/mother/responsible person in the relationship. I've had situations like this happen to me and I've seen it happen to other people. It's a series of I-can't-believe-I'm-laughing, but this-is-so-relatable situations that had me constantly laughing out loud and feeling bad for poor Pen.
I don't know how many volumes the joke can keep going, but it at least hits all the good points on this delightful first volume.
Extremely happy thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for the belly laughs!
I absolutely loved this little manga, it was so cute! The volume is broken up in to fun little episodes which makes for an easy and quick read.
Though we dont get any backstory on where Pen came from or how he came to be Hayakawa's pet this is just a little cute manga of the different adventures so none of that is all that important. I will say though that if Hayakawa doesnt start appreciating Pen more im going to have to beat him up and take Pen for myself.
Penguin & House is a really adorable manga, perfect for fans of series like Chi's Sweet Home or penguins in general, that follows a penguin and his thoughtless owner through their daily life together.
I enjoyed this manga as a light read, though I did find myself frustrated with Pen's owner so often!! The pacing was consistent, and it was easy to speed right through. There wasn't a ton that stood out about it, though I did love Pen's character design. This is a really fun read, if not entirely memorable, and I would recommend it if you're looking for something lighthearted and cute!
This was so cute! I love that little Penguin more then life itself. The story and art was really good. Highly recommend.
