This series has so much to teach me about life, and bravery, and family. The story continues in this volume, with "impossible" tasks completed - but only through cooperation and self-knowledge. And even acknowledging one's own weaknesses. I hope Frieren lasts forever.
Another enjoyable addition to this new series. So far from what I've read this series seems to be more invested in character development than action and comedy. Don't misunderstand that comment there is still a fair amount of both action and comedy but I'd say the main focus is the development of Frieren in general, and how the people she interacts with have an effect on her outlook on life. This is an interesting concept for a manga and one you don't see often. I will say this series isn't for everyone but if you're looking for something different than the usual cookie cutter formats that you find in todays manga I strongly recommend you give this a try. If you enjoyed The Ancient Magus Bride then I think you will enjoy this series.
Thank you to VIZ Media and Netgalley for a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Another great installment in this series! I really enjoyed the new cast of characters introduced in the exam that Frieren and Fern are taking part in. I also really enjoyed getting to know a little more about Frieren's past. I'm really looking forward to the next volume!
I just have to say how much I love this series. In this volume we see the group split up into different teams for the first class mage exam. Frieren and Fern are paired together and the goal is to catch a rare bird in the allotted time. The dynamic amongst the teams is very interesting and it's nice to see a bunch of different characters all in one place but on their own so that we can get to know them a little bit. I'm looking forward to the next volume to see what happens!
In the fifth volume of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End we see a change in pace as the series enters the manga classic exam arc. Despite being a bit of a surprise trope for this series, I found the characters introduced in this volume quite fun and I'll be interested to see where things go for them. Frieren also continues to just be such a charming and compelling protagonist I'd just follow her journey anywhere. This series is such a gem.
I LOVE this series. It is so poignant and bittersweet. It tugs at the heartstrings, but gently. The first volume grabbed me and it still has a hold on me five books in.
Highly recommended, though it does have very serous moments that might affect you if you have lost someone you love and the wound is still raw. Be aware.
5, this is such a beautiful series I am so glad I started it, stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
I am in love with the Frieren series. It has the perfect balance of meaningful, thought-provoking content and silly comic relief. This is the fiction world I wish I lived in.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I was able to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Frieren vol. 5 continues to follow Frieren and her fellow companions Fern and Stark, although Stark wasn’t as present really until the end of the story. This volume focuses on the first event of the first class mage certification and the various characters that will be playing a part in it going forward. It was an interesting storyline and it was fun to see Frieren interacting with more people outside her circle and also seeing Fern hold her own and flexing all that skill she’s grown traveling with Frieren.
Overall a satisfactory volume, looking forward to the next part of the exam playing out.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this magic exam storyline, but once again, this series surprised me with how exactly it handled a plot point I'd seen many times before. For example, Frieren, doesn't just get a pass, despite her legendary status. This exams means many different things to the teams taking it, and I'm curious to see how this will conclude.
I thouroughly enjoyed this volume. The way the characters had to use creativity allong with their magic was highly entertaining. The humor was also just perfect. I'm really excited to see where this series is going.
This series continues to be interesting, and I'm excited to finally see what looks like to be a decently long arc starting. This volume covers the first part of the first class mage exam, so it mostly focuses on Frieren and Fern. There's a few things set up in this volume that were interesting, particularly how differently Frieren and Fern use magic, and how the mage community views magic as a whole. Since the majority of the series so far has been the core group briefly interacting with people then leaving (with Sein being an exception), it's fun to see them interact with a group that is going to be around a while. The setting and plot continue to be fun, I love all the throwbacks to Frieren's original journey with the Hero's party, and how the connections the main group are making seems to hint at Frieren's rebuilding of that group with the next generation. Very fun series, I can't wait to see how the exam arc plays out.
