I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
A New Pet is a great little book for children about getting a pet and what it entails to keep one and care for it. Each page has a colour photograph and shows different animals such as a puppy, dogs, a guinea pig, a geko, a fish and a hamster. This is a great book to get for a child who wants a pet and also a great book to have in an education setting for young children. This is a great little series and interesting for the younger reader due to it having real photographs in it.
I really loved this children's book, which has beautiful photographs and easy to read text, which show different families getting new pets, such as a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a gecko and a guinea pig. It explains all the things you need to buy to look after a pet, and the things you have to do to look after a pet, for example, buying food bowls and a bed, and giving your pet love, warmth, food, water, playtime and exercise. At the end of the book, there is a reading reinforcement section and a word list, which are very useful. This is a great book, which I recommend highly.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute book about all kinds of pets and the care they need! A good gift for children getting their first pets.
Having a pet that your child can enjoy can be rewarding for the whole family. Having a pet teaches responsibility and that they need care and love. Having pets is a step of teaching your child what it takes to love and care for any animal. Every animal has different needs and ways to care for it. Reading before you choose a pet may help you make the right choice for a pet. At the end of a New Pet there are reading reinforcements that help your child learn good reading skills. Highly recommend.
A special thank you to Norwood House Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This book is about caring for your new pet. It is a beginning reader that uses simple sentence structures, decodable text and sight words to tell a story that young readers will be able to comprehend and follow. The pictures are real photographs (realia) and match the text well. This is especially helpful when teaching young readers the strategy of looking at the picture. It is also helpful for children learning English as an additional language. At the end of the book are some guiding questions and word lists to help teach reading at home and at school. I would recommend this book for teachers and families looking for simple texts to support young readers who are learning to read with increasing independence. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this text.
This is a great book for lower elementary students! Between the short statements, vivid photographs, and engaging content-it makes it the perfect choice for students starting to read books independently. Many students either have or desire to have pets. This book focuses on several different pets you might find in the home and what those pets need in their everyday life. The information is likely already familiar to students, allowing them to read the text with ease and engage in the content in a meaningful way. Even better, the author has supplemental material at the end of the book to help extend lessons. This makes it ideal for parents and caregivers who want to work on literacy skills with their children.
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons! The author did a great job of making the book informative but still fun to read for children. I wasn’t surprised at the end, in the ‘About the Author’ section, to find out that the author is a former elementary school teacher. Her writing style is able to grab the attention of the young reader as well as entertain them. I enjoyed how some of the pages had words and some of the pages are pictures of either just the pets or children playing with pets. Also, some of the pictures were children actually caring for the pets. I believe this really conveys the message of how fun it is to have a pet but also how important it is to care the the pet properly. A very healthy balance! One of the best parts of the book is the “Reading Reinforcement” section. This is where parents can spend some time with the child, really helping to support the words/information throughout the book. There are so many different activities that encourage learning while having fun at the same time. I really enjoyed this book!
I write about pets professionally, so it’s always nice to read a pet-focused book! This nonfiction book is a perfect introduction to being a new pet owner, with information on what kind of care each kind of pet needs. It’s a very basic book that’s perfect for animal-loving young readers. Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC.
A cute little book showing photos of children with different types of pets from fish to horses, with text describing features of each pet and bits about the care each pets needs, like water, exercise, places to sleep. Not much detail, but a fun read for young children who might be looking forward to getting a new pet.
