Love this cookbook! There are lots of wonderful recipes for cakes, cookies, scones, breads and so many more with step by step pictures which makes following the recipes very easy. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this cookbook.

As GBBO fan, I knew I had to read a Paul Hollywood cookbook. I love the photos, especially photos throughout the process. If I could bake everything in it today, I would. I love the little Paul intro’s to the recipes, as they seem exactly like what he says on Masterclass. The recipes all seem very thorough and step by step. I love the introduction section to bread making, as a bread making novice, this information is very helpful.

I would buy this book, whatever the cost, just to get Paul Hollywood's recipe for scones, which I drooled over every time they appeared in "The Great British Baking Show." Happily, that recipe is here--along with so many more recipes, gorgeously illustrated with full-color photos of the finished dishes. "Bake" is a treat for any home baker: Hollywood's discussions of his baking methods and tips for achieving the best results will, I'm sure, lead to many delicious breads, pastries and cakes for my family.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Bloomsbury Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this title in return for my honest review.

This is a beautiful cookbook. The photos are stunning, and the recipes are typical of what I think of when I think of Paul Hollywood. Lots of step-by-step images make creating fancy baking masterpieces seem so simple.

Oh Paul Hollywood! At least this book has more instructions in it than the ones he gives the contestants of Bake Off! But alas, even with all of these recipes, I still am guaranteed to not get a Paul Hollywood handshake.
This is why I find these books so difficult to review. I am not a natural born baker, so it takes me many tries to get the recipes worked out correctly. (And some of these I will most definitely never even attempt.) So while I am excited to dive in and attempt these recipes time and again over the summer, they will never make me the great PH, that’s for sure!

So, I love Paul Hollywood. I am not exaggerating when I say I could not have been more excited to receive an advanced copy of his newest cookbook, eloquently titled, BAKE. I am obsessed with The Great British Baking Show and could be happy if it was the only show I ever watched for the rest of my life. I love the competition, the baked goods, and the accents. For anyone unfortunate enough to not be familiar with soggy bottoms, Paul Hollywood is one of the judges of the bake off series. This is not his first baking collection, but this one promises to be his best recipes for the most classic recipes.

I love the style and photography of this book. Paul kicks off each section with some commentary on the category and then each recipe is introduced with a personal connection and tips. I was happy to see the concise ingredient lists for most recipes and simple instructions. Hollywood (I realize I referred to him as Paul earlier, I just feel like we are on first name basis but I’ll try to give him the credit he deserves) insists us that anyone can bake and these recipes are easy as long as you take your time and read through them carefully. He is much more encouraging than his TV personality. I truly felt like he cared about my ability to recreate his favorite classics.

I have to say, I was incredibly motivated to start baking everything from daily tea time bakes to my own bread and English muffins. I wanted to create my sourdough starter right away and imagined my future full of cakes and croissants. Is everyone in the UK extremely unhealthy? I mean seriously how do they keep up with a daily tea time habit? I want to live this lifestyle but something tells me its not in my best interest. Nevertheless I was able to execute my first bake from this book tonight and my chocolate orange banana bread, the very first recipe in the book, is currently in the oven. I never judge a bake by its batter but I already know this one is going to be good. I imagined Paul giving me that icy stare as he watched me pour my overly-softened-turned-melted butter into the batter instead of starting over with a new stick but decided that if this was my week one bake I would just have to bet that someone else would be worse than me.

Although my husband expressly forbid me to bake anything from this book while he was home I still want to incorporate more frequent baking into my routine and I truly felt inspired by Hollywood to do so. I liked his idea of bringing someone a homemade baked good instead of a bottle of wine and using the experience of baking with your family to make lasting memories and traditions. I will definitely turn to this book to achieve that. Even though I’m in the US, most of these recipes seemed like something us Americans would like, although I’m still not sure what Lyle’s Golden syrup is…

I absolutely loved this collection of baking recipes and highly recommend to anyone who is interested in baking more!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bloomsbury for an ARC of this book.

Every once in a while a cookbook comes out that blows readers away. World renown chef and judge of The Great British Bakeoff, Paul Hollywood, has released one of the best baking books out there: BAKE: My Best Ever Recipes for the Classics. Hollywood has included an excellent variety of baked goods, such as breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, desserts, and even savory British pies.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner and are easy to follow. Not to say they are easy (some recipes have several steps and take time to prepare correctly), but the instructions are good enough that bakers at every level can successfully follow them and end up with perfect results.

The recipes lean toward British classics, like Sticky Toffee Pudding, Hot Cross Buns, and Lemon Drizzle Cake, Ultimate Sausage Rolls, and Victoria Sponge, Hollywood has included Foccacia, and some mouthwatering international breads such as Naan, Brioche, Croissants, Lagana, and Maneesh.
The photographs are exceptional. There is a photograph of every recipe, which gives bakers an idea of how their finished product should look.

Hollywood has outdone himself this time, and will inspire bakers to fall in love with this excellent cookbook. It should be on every baker’s shelf and is a good choice for gifts. Highly recommended.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

A collection of approachable but interesting baking recipes, with step by step photos for some of the recipes. I couldn’t help myself but immediately bake the Lemon Drizzle cake since I already had everything on hand to make it and Paul said it’s one of his favorite cake recipes. The flavor was amazing!! Will definitely bake it again!

The only thing I was slightly surprised by is that not everything is measured out in the recipes. For example “juice of 1 lemon” or “6 tablespoons of confectioners sugar” were not weighed out. Maybe that is typical but I feel like lemons can really vary!

Overall, a really lovely recipe book!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!!

Love this cookbook. It's a wonderful collection of everyday recipes of various degrees of difficulty. Very possible to use it to practice and grow without even needing a different book. It would be such a great gift for any baking show fan!

Beautiful cookbook with wonderful pictures of Paul making various pastries. I enjoyed the variety in having recipes for both savory and sweet baking projects. I appreciated that the recipes often had measurements for both US and UK/everyone else. The recipe steps seem clearly stated and therefore seem accessible even if you have no where near Paul's experience.

My only complaint was that the Net galley version is very hard to read/review because I could only access it via the Netgalley app and the print was so tiny that it was difficult to read, even when zoomed in. This doesn't reflect on the book itself of course.

Thanks for the opportunity to preview the book.

Great cookbook. I love to get cookbooks and this is definitely one I put on my list. I've always wanted to try one of Paul Hollywood's recipes and the ones found in this books certainly look to be more my speed. I don't need fancy cakes, but the basics (and some not-so-basic) found here are easy to follow.

Beautiful pictures and well defined recipes.

What a gorgeous cookbook! The images are professional yet beautiful. The recipes sound amazing and I definitely want to try many of them. It's a useful cookbook that would also look beautiful on a shelf in the kitchen or on a coffee table.

As a fan of The Great British Baking Show, I've sometimes fantasized about competing on the show. If I can master the recipes in this book, I think I'd have a shot at it! ;) There is a large variety of classic baking recipes, and some have step-by-step photos, which is always helpful. This is a good book for both beginning and experienced bakers. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love The Great British Baking Show so I bought Paul Hollywood's book How to Bake and it was a wonderful resource for a beginner to make bread (and beyond). I'm still working my way through that book, but the one thing that was hard with it was conversions. I had to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit which was easy, but learning the different names for ingredients in the UK that are different in the US was a steep learning curve. I still recommend that book as a wonderful resource for beginning bakers.

This new book gives measurements in both weight (grams) and American measurements (ounces/cups/tsp/tbsp), but real bakers know weight is the best! There's not as much background included and fewer step-by-step photos than in How to Bake, so this book is best for bakers who already know their way around the kitchen. More difficult recipes (croissants, for example) do have a few step-by-step photos to guide you along.

The recipes included are British classics like shortbread, sticky toffee pudding, sausage rolls, pasties, and Victoria sandwich cake; staples like cookies and sandwich bread; and decadent pastries and desserts like lime macarons, pain au chocolat, and brownie cheesecake.

Bakers who love Paul Hollywood should add this to their cookbook collection as it is a resource they will use again and again.

My husband is more than a little obsessed with Paul Hollywood.
Imperial AND metric measurements. Easy to follow instructions. Beautiful pictures.
Great pictures of Paul’s forearms as well. 👌🏻
My husband may not be the only one obsessed…🤷🏽‍♀️

I am a huge fan of The Great British Baking Show! When I found out I would receive an ARC, I was ecstatic! Paul Hollywood 's voice was clear in my head as I read his cookbook, and who wouldn't want to learn from the best. The layout and recipes definitely reflect his personality. I loved that he is included in pictures of himself for baking techniques ! Its great to see some of the recipes featured in the show like biscotti, ciabatta, and baked Alaska! I will be buying this cookbook for myself for sure.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I think most fans of the GBBO are familiar with Paul Hollywood. He's the tougher judge, but his recipes always look amazing.

In Bake, the recipes all look great! The pictures (There is a picture for EVERY recipe and even some that have step-by-step pictures accompanying it) are beautiful and really sell the food more. I love that each recipe is very well written and easily instructed, plus it has cups and weights for those who use a scale.

So many different categories here, too. Cakes, cookies, breads, pizza, doughnuts, pastry, pies, and other desserts. I can't wait to make the Chocolate Fudge Cake, the chocolate brownies, Paul's biscotti recipe, and my own pizza dough.
