I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Just like the first book, I really enjoyed jumping into this sequel. Ever since we met Gwen, I've been wondering who she was going to fall in love with. I'm happy to say that this did not disappoint and I'm so happy for her and Wells.
Now these two had some chemistry. It was filled with sparks, and I absolutely loved the banter between them when it happened. I'd also like to say that I really do not like his father because he is just way too evil for his own kids. I couldn't believe the betrayal and how he was okay with it all. All I'm going to say is that I'm glad that they all worked together to figure out what was happening with Gwyn's magic before it became too late.
In the end, I'm enjoying this series so freaking much. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next in book 3!
This was a lot of fun. Gwen was a great main character. Loved her personality and her humor. I love the setting of Graves Glen too. Perfect for fall reading. Wells, the love interest, was absolutely swoon worthy IMO. And I laughed out loud almost every time Gwen called him Esquire. I also really like that there was a bit of a mystery in this one. Oh and I can’t forget Sir Purrcival and the Baby Witches - laughed a lot at them too! The book was short and it had short chapters and it was just fun and easy to fly through.
Why did I wait so long to read this? I loved this. Gwen was such a fun character and I adored her baby witches. She literally leapt off the page and made you fall in love with her. Wells was fantastic and embodied many of my favorite traits in male love interests. You could feel their chemistry. Of course, I adore Sir Purrcevill most of all.
Oh this was a delightful book. Gwyn and Wells were a great couple and I enjoyed the magic in this book. I liked how it was enemies to lovers but only one of them knew why they were enemies.
SO CUTE. I LOVE THEM ALL. I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BUT I WISH MORE PPL WERE queer in it or that the couple were both queer.
fluffy and forgettable. Low stakes, low reward. Ultimately, not for me. But I can see its place in a collection
I wasn’t sure about this one after not loving the first book. Now I think it might have been the mood reader in me who wasn’t in the mood for the first book when I read it, because I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
It was witchy, sassy, and steamy in the best way. I loved the banter between the two main characters, and I thought they had great chemistry. I’m really looking forward to the third book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Erin Sterling is an author whose books I always pick up. I read Ex Hex and was so excited to continue the series with the Kiss Curse. And I ended up enjoying Kiss Curse even more! Gwyn is a fun witch and I felt like we got to see more of that part of the world in this second book. The chemistry was also fantastic! Great light-witchy-read as we head into spooky season.
For some reason I never gave a review for this one! But it's been so long since I've read it I barely remember what happened but I remember it being cute!
The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling. Pub Date: September 20, 2022. Rating: 4 stars. In this second installment in the Ex-Hex series, the reader gets to experience the story of Gwyn and Wells Penhallow. Gwyn runs a successful witchcraft shop, is close to her family and mentors younger witches in town. There is a new coven in town and Gwyn is forced to team up with Wells to get the situation under control and navigate who these new witches are and why their presence is affecting Gwyn's magical abilities. Within the storyline, Wells and Gwyn start to develop a romance that is swoony and lovable. I really enjoy this series, loved this second installment and can not wait to read the third one soon! For all the witchy romance vibes, definitely read this one. Thanks to #Avon and #netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
We are given mouthwatering tension, skin-warming fluff, and abs-inducing humor along with an intriguing and fun plot that has the reader on their toes.
Gwyn, the snarky, quirky, quick-witted cousin of Vivi from the first book, is a character you won't easily forget. Her intelligence and her tendency to not take things seriously make her stand out. When Wells arrives in Graves Glen, Gwyn's initial reaction is far from amused. However, a love spell that's not quite a love spell reveals their mutual attraction. As Gwyn's magic starts to act strangely and even seems to vanish, they both embark on a journey to restore it, with the support of Gwyn's coven of baby witches.
I found The Kiss Curse to be a more enjoyable read than the first book in the series, The Ex Hex. Gwyn's character is a delight, and her unique ability to annoy Wells is terrific. I also enjoyed the interactions between the Penhallow brothers.
This is an easy read with some spookiness that anyone can appreciate.
**Book Review: "The Kiss Curse" by Erin Sterling**
Erin Sterling's "The Kiss Curse" is a delightful and enchanting romantic comedy that weaves together humor, magic, and a touch of whimsy in a modern-day fairy tale setting. This novel offers a refreshing twist on the classic trope of curses and true love, delivering a charming story that will warm the hearts of readers.
At the heart of "The Kiss Curse" is its irresistible premise: a curse that causes any romantic kiss to lead to disaster. Sterling introduces us to a lovable protagonist who finds herself grappling with this unusual affliction, navigating the pitfalls of dating and relationships with humor and resilience. The premise sets the stage for a series of humorous and heartwarming misadventures as the protagonist seeks to break the curse and find true love.
Sterling's writing is witty and engaging, filled with clever banter and laugh-out-loud moments that keep the story light and entertaining. The pacing is brisk, with each chapter unfolding with a delightful blend of romance, comedy, and a hint of magical intrigue. The author's ability to balance the fantastical elements of the curse with the everyday challenges of modern dating adds depth to the narrative and makes the story relatable to readers.
The characters in "The Kiss Curse" are endearing and well-developed, each with their own quirks and vulnerabilities. The protagonist's journey of self-discovery and personal growth is compelling, as she learns valuable lessons about love, acceptance, and the importance of being true to oneself. Supporting characters add layers to the story, from loyal friends to charming love interests, creating a vibrant and engaging ensemble cast.
While "The Kiss Curse" excels in creating a lighthearted and enjoyable reading experience, it occasionally leans into predictable tropes and resolutions. Some plot developments feel familiar, and certain character motivations may lack the complexity that could elevate them further. However, these minor drawbacks do not detract significantly from the overall charm and appeal of the novel.
In conclusion, "The Kiss Curse" is a delightful romantic comedy that will enchant readers with its magical premise and heartwarming story of love and self-discovery. Erin Sterling's talent for blending humor, romance, and a touch of magic shines through in this engaging novel, making it a perfect choice for fans of feel-good fiction. Whether you're looking for a light-hearted escape or a charming love story with a twist, "The Kiss Curse" is sure to leave you smiling and believing in the power of true love.
The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling is a perfect fit for readers who adore lighthearted, adventurous romances with a touch of magic, particularly those who enjoy the enemies-to-lovers trope and are drawn to stories about powerful witches, spellbinding romance, and the thrill of uncovering hidden secrets.
I loved this book. It was fun and quirky! This book was the perfect sequel. I may have even liked this one better than the first one.
I love witchy romance, and this had that feeling in that there was a curse involved. The premise was definitely fun, but what really got me into the story was the chemistry between the characters. I thought the banter was good and the plot flowed well.
If you enjoyed the first book in the Ex Hex series, you will love this title, as well. The Kiss Curse brings the same witty banter between characters in the cozy setting of Graves Glen. I have never wanted to visit a fictional town more than the one where these books are set. This story would be a great fall read for those looking for something seasonal, but not scary.
Following the events of The Ex Hex, the Jones family is now responsible for the magic that flows through the small town of Graves Glen, in Georgia. Gwyn Jones is busy running her touristy witchcraft shop, Something Wicked, and mentoring three young witches, fondly renamed “Baby Witches”, but she feels that something is missing from her life.
In Wales, in Dweniniaid, Llewellyn “Wells” Penhallow runs the mostly empty pub the Raven and Crown, but, tired of the monotony of his life, he returns to Graves Glen to re-establish the family name. Gwyn doesn’t give him a warm welcome in town, especially when he opens his own witch shop right across from hers. She is determined to hate him, despite the strong attraction she feels for him. But when she begins to lose her magic powers and a new coven of witches arrives in town, they team up to figure out what is going on.
review
The Kiss Curse is the fantastic sequel to the equally brilliant novel The Ex Hex, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone. Set a year after the events of the first book, we find its protagonists, Vivi and Rhys, happily married and about to embark on a journey to Scotland. So, the story focuses on Vivi’s cousin, Gwyn, and Rhys’s brother, Wells.
Gwyn is impulsive, quirky, sarcastic, and smart and she can hold a grudge for years. As a matter of fact, her first dislike for Wells started thirteen years ago when he interfered in one of her enchantments. Considered the Favored Child of the Penhallow patriarch, Wells has always done what his father wanted. For the last thirteen years, he has been holding fort and guarding the magic at the Raven and Crown. In Graves Glen he is finally away from his father’s clutches and he looks forward to validating the family name in the town his ancestors founded.
There is a lot of fun, mostly provided by the Baby Witches, the three young witches mentored by Gwyn. But, also by Sir Purrcival, Gwyn’s talking cat who thinks mostly about food and insults, and the witty banters between the two protagonists. There is romance and steam, provided again by the two protagonists, whose chemistry is very well-played. There is also magic and a bit of drama and suspense with the mysterious arrival of the new witches in town.
in conclusion
The Kiss Curse is well-written, entertaining, refreshing, and immersive, perfect for fans of the enemies-to-lovers trope! Highly recommended!
No surprise I loved this book! So far I have really enjoyed everything Rachel Hawkins/Erin Sterling. I can’t wait to read the third book.
You do not have to read the first book in order to read this one. This one is about Viv’s cousin, Gwyn. It takes place in Graves Glen and Penhaven College.
This was a fun & light romance. There was also no miscommunication trope and I am ALWAYS here for that 👏🏼
Read this if you like:
🫶🏼 romance that’s not smutty

🍂 fall vibes
👯♀️ friends you can root for.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for this ARC in exchange for my honest review! I’m sorry it took me so long to read it. 🥲
This follow up to the Ex Hex did not disappoint! Gwen and Wells find themselves in a predicament- they kiss and believe they have accidentally come across a curse. This is explored as time goes on. I really loved the writing and the comedy throughout, and of course the love story
