I very quickly fell in love with The Kiss Curse for the same reasons as it’s precursor-
-atmospheric vibes in the adorable town of Graves Glen
-witty and confident witches (this time there’s even an addition of baby witty witches)
-another smoking hot Penhallow brother
-and of course the same old magical hijinks and then some!
🎃 In addtition there were pink clouds of love spells, cheesy plastic pumpkins, witchy graphic tees, hoards of crystals, and cups of tea a’plenty. Not to mention we ended up with an attic full of the darkest possessions any witch has ever owned
I was so immersed into the story and so excited to be back in Graves Glen and honestly, just so goo goo gah gah over Wells, that by 3/4 of the book I realized we were chasing the conflict/ending and personally, thats one of my pet peeves 🫠 It’s not that the ending felt rushed to me, I just enjoy a more thorough ending.
👻 I highly recommend that you add this book to your October tbr and I’m so happy that this witchy read was at the forefront of my Spooky season because it really set the bar for how whimsical and spooky I wanted Spooky Season ’22 to be!
💖 A huge thank you to @netgally @erinsteriling and @avonandhapervoyager for this eARC and the honor of wanting my review, even if I am a tad bit behind.
3.5 stars rounded up
This was really cute and fun. I think I liked it better than the first one. Gwyn is sunshine and magic and Wells is a cloudy day. Their chemistry is obvious from the prologue- which I am bummed we never really refer back to. It’s not really the most complicated plot or resolution but the baby witches are cute, Gwyn and Wells are a power couple, and it’s a perfect cutesey ready for spooky season.
Thanks Netgalley and Macmillan for the review copy in exchange for my thoughts!
I liked it! I read it in one sitting, it felt so perfectly fall, and I picture it like a witchy Gilmore girls!
A delightful follow up to The Ex Hex. The enemies to lovers trope could not have been more expertly crafted. I so adored these two characters, separately and apart. Though I found Gwyn to be a more compelling and well-rounded character overall, Wells was a great love interest. The plot was as fun and spooky as I was expecting. If you're looking for shocking reveals and twists, these aren't the books for you. Although the plot was predictable and most things I could see coming, I still loved it. My final note would be to issue a trigger warning for blood magic of which I was not aware of prior to reading and would've appreciated a heads up on. A great read, perfect for this time of year. I really hope that we'll get a third book following the third Penhallow brother soon!
Thank you for this copy of The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling.
I’m going to be honest. Didn’t love it, but didn’t hate it either. I felt like if you took out the spice and language, you’d have a Disney Channel Original movie. It was cheesy and predictable, like the first one.
Just like her thrillers, I love this author and the way in which she writes! Her characters are so well written with plots that keep me entertained. In fact, I think Wells has become my Mr. October. I'd definitely like to be cursed... I mean kissed... by him!
Definitely encourage RomCom readers to read this magical book.
Thank you to Erin Sterling and NetGalley for giving me this opportunity to give an honest review about the Kiss Curse.
I throughly enjoyed this book more than the first one, The Ex Hex. This was such a cute romance and it was perfect for the spooky season! I loved following Gwen and Wells' relationship with all their funny banter, which made their relationship a 10/10 for me. I felt like the whole plot of The Kiss Curse was funny, witty, passionate, and full of action making it hard to put down!
I would recommend this book to everyone!
Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback.
I LOVED the Ex Hex and was not disappointed by Erin Sterling’s second witchy installment: The Kiss Curse. It follows fiery Gwyn Jones as she juggles mentoring her ‘Baby Witches’, running her novelty shop ‘Something Wicked’ and trying to figure out why her magic is on the fritz. To top it all off her arch enemy Wells Penhallow or Esquire, as she likes to call him, has moved to town and opened a witchy shop of his own.
Things get very interesting when Wells and Gwyn share an intimate moment brought on by what they think is a love spell. Things get even more twisty when they are thrown together to save the town, and Gwyn’s magic from a new dark Coven that has moved to town!
This book was so much fun to read! The writing is witty and intriguing! It was hard to put down.
I give this one three and a half witch hats!
This was a fun sequel to last year’s Ex Hex.
It’s another adventure with the Jones witches and the Penhallows. In this one we get to spend more time getting to know Gwyn and Wells (short for Llewellyn).
It’s a romantic comedy with some steam and a magical mystery too!
Perfect for spooky season and can be read as a stand-alone although I do personally prefer to read series in order.
I'll be completely honest: don't remember much of the first book, so I was a little surprised when my review for it mentioned wanting an book for Gwyn. Well, past Stacee was right because she's a damn delight.
I loved Gwyn and Wells. She's loyal and loving and sees the joy in everything. Wells seems stuffy and uptight, but is the perfect match for Gwyn. Together there's banter and button pushing and a lot of good kissing scenes. Oh, and don't get me started on the Baby Witches.
Plot wise, it was basically all romance and fluff. The conflict didn't really start until nearly the end and it was wrapped up quickly. I didn't even care because I loved these characters so much, I was here for whatever. I will say that I would have liked an epilogue, but I'll be over here waiting for a book 3 with Bowen (and hopefully more of the BWs)
Overall, this was a fun and quick read and I can't wait to see if there's more.
**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**
This is the follow up to The Ex Hex and I must say, I liked this one better! Both are great, but this one just had an extra lil somethin’-somethin’.
I had a full on grin for most of this book and I enjoyed the romance between Gwyn and Wells more than ViVi and Rhys. Enemies to lovers always hits me so much harder than second chance romance books (which the first book was). I love that angst and that tension, I devour that shit.
Anyway, Sir Purrcival as always stole the damn show, and I loved the addition of the new characters “the baby witches” (you’ll see when you read it).
Overall was this predictable? Yeah almost completely, but was it a fun & spicy witchy read? Hell yes! I could totally see multiple characters being from my fave tv show Charmed, and I loved the spicy scenes. They were well done 😉
My biggest complaint, which is actually the same complaint from The Ex Hex, was that the actual “battle” scenes, or however you would call them, fizzle out as soon as the explosion starts going off. It finally starts getting action-y and good vs evil-y and then bam, very easy and convenient victory for the good guys. I just hoped this one would be a bit bigger and would wow me more, but sadly it didn’t. These build up moments to these scenes feel almost more like a side note than an actual important part to the books.
Anyway, the ending definitely made it seem like there will be a part 3 to this series, so in conclusion I will happily read another silly, fluffy, witchy, and Halloweentown vibes heavy book from Erin Sterling aka Rachel Hawkins in the future!
Thank you so much for the ARC NetGalley &. Avon and Harper Voyager which was provided to me in exchange for my honest review!
By FAR, this book is superior to the first.
The sidekick becomes the main character and we are loving it.
Good lord, the name of the male lead is awful, but I guess Wells will do.
What an interesting, fun, and sexy story. There are even creepy vibes around, perfect for Halloween time, I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the book. There's nothing much to say except that this is a cute, witchy romantic book that is the perfect Halloween read if you're in the mood for something fast-paced and light.
I read The Ex Hex last October and enjoyed the fun, witchy read, so I knew I needed to add The Kiss Curse to my October TBR for this year.
I think I liked this one a smidge more than The Ex Hex; it definitely had some laugh out loud scenarios. It was also a bit steamier than I remember The Ex Hex being, but I could have just forgotten.
A fun October read when you don't want something spooky.
It was so great revisiting my favorite characters from The Ex Hex. The Kiss Curse was such a cute, fun, light hearted read. Gwen & Wells just had the best chemistry. I really loved the storyline. This series is absolutely adorable and I love it!!
The Kiss Curse was a GREAT follow up to The Ex Hex. I'm such a big fan of this world and these characters. These books are perfect for Fantasy and Romance readers alike. I'm particularly thrilled to be able to recommend these cozy, Halloween reads to our audience at The Everygirl.
This is a wonderful Fall book. Loved the characters, the witch atmosphere, and the pace of this book. Funny and witty with just the right amount of romance.
As a huge fan of The Ex Hex, I couldn’t wait to get to the sequel! Gwyn and Well’s story is just as hilarious and flirty as Vivi and Rhys’ and it was the perfect story to follow up with! I recommend these two books 100% if you’re looking for some Hocus Pocus vibes with some added spice!! Love them both.
An enemies to lovers romance. The Kiss Curse is a bewitching tale that follows two prominent witch families and how a man and a woman from each opposite family, fall for one another. A bit of insta love with this one but I still enjoyed it.
I’m not all into Halloween but I do make sure I read at least 1 or 2 halloween books during the fall. Last year I read the first book in this series, The Ex Hex and loved it. I wasn’t sure if a follow up book could top but but this certainly did! I feel if I write a summary I’m going to give away major spoilers. Let me just say this book turns into an enemies to lovers book between Gwyn and Wells. I loved the entire will they or won’t they storyline. This book also had a little mystery factor to it when it came to Gwyn losing her powers. This book had great supporting characters such as the Baby Witches and Vivi and Rhys. If you are looking for a fun/ non scary Halloween book this is it!
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for an ARC of this book.
As a reader, we are first introduced to the characters of Wells and Gwyn in Erin Sterling's The Ex Hex. This is the follow up novel to that cute romance. I absolutely LOVED this book, devoured it in less than 24 hours. While sometimes I worry about sequels, I could not have loved this follow up book more. I felt like the character of Gwyn is just a strong female lead, and the more I learn about Wells, the more I WANT to learn about him. I thought the book had a great story, loved that it built on the first novel where Glen Graves is now being controlled by the Jones gal's magic, and I felt like Wells had a great appreciation of that. There was certainly a few scenarios of conflict that were needed to keep the story going, and the spice level was just perfect. I felt more connected to their story than I did in the first novel, so I am SO SO happy I was approved for this ARC. I will be recommending this to all my friends and family especially during spooky season
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this fantastic romance read. The thoughts and opinions are all my own.
