This book is the follow up to The Ex Hex but can be read as a stand alone. I received this as an ARC from #netgalley but didn’t have a chance to read it until after the release date. I read the first book and liked it but I definitely enjoyed this one more. This one follows Gwyn (the cousin from the first book) and Wells (Rhys brother) and was an enemy to lovers trope. This was a cute fall, seasonal read and I definitely enjoyed it. I finished it in one day. If you’re looking for a magical seasonal rom- com, this is definitely one to pick up!
This book was exactly what I was hoping for - a fun romance to read during spooky season. Go into it expecting that and you will be happy with your reading experience!
Perfect fall read with Halloweentown vibes! "The Kiss Curse" is a fast paced easy read. Loved the grumpy/sunshine flavor. The only downside for me was the ending conflict - cleaned up a little too quickly and easily.
Second in a series, but could be read as a standalone. I think it's more enjoyable to have the background of the families and the community.
Looking forward to another story. Maybe Bowen??
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for providing an eARC for review!
Another magical book from Erin Sterling. I absolutely love this series. Perfect for rom-com lovers! I can't wait for the next one!
The spooky, witchy, Halloween romance vibes were absolutely impeccable! Gwyn and Wells totally captures my heart. I loved the smooth progressions from enemies to lovers, and the contrast of their personalities - quirky, outgoing, fun Gwyn and stoic, reserved, but secretly goofy Wells. It was the perfect fall read, and I flew through it! Loved seeing the characters from the first book make appearances - just enough to satisfy me since I missed them, but not too much so that they overpowered the story.
I LOVED THIS ONE! I think this might just be better than The Ex Hex which was pretty perfect. I loved Sir Purrcivael and recommend this series to all Halloweentown Lovers.
This perfect follow-up to The Ex Hex gave me everything I wanted—spooky season fun, a sexy enemies-to-lovers plot and even a talking cat!
A few years ago, I fell in love love love with Erin Sterling's The Ex Hex. I also happen to be a fan of author Rachel Hawkins' thriller writing (IYKYK), so it was no surprise that I became an instant fan of Ms. Sterling. I was so delighted to receive an advanced copy of her follow up to The Ex Hex, The Kiss Curse - many thanks to the kind spirits at Avon and Harper Voyager for allowing me to read this one early. I was very excited about the release of this sequel and I was not disappointed. I love romance, Halloween, autumnal settings, general witchiness, sexy guys - and let me tell you, this one has it all! I cannot wait to return to Graves Glen again soon (hopefully). Congratulations to Erin Sterling on this outstanding follow up!
I really struggled with this one and it’s me, not the book. I read the first book in this series and thought it was cute and enjoyed it. As I started this book, I just felt dread. I love witchy romance but I don’t love romance that feels like YA, which this does. The main character just crimes off as really immature, rather than quirky, as I’m sure the author intended. I just never really felt like I was on her side. The 3 stars is because I think this book would be perfect for someone who is looking for a younger, quirkier romance. And Halloween themed!
THE KISS CURSE is the sequel to Erin's Sterling's 2021 novel, THE EX HEX which I thoroughly enjoyed. As a fan of THE EX HEX, I was very excited to receive this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review!
I really enjoyed this sequel, the story of Gwyn, Vivi's cousin from the first novel, and her interactions with Wells Penhallow. This story had just the right amount of magic, humor, and fun. I recommend it for fans of Sterling's other work, or folks looking for a fun, lightly spooky, seasonal romance read.
The first in the series was enjoyable but the second is better, with more awesome cozy fall/Halloween atmosphere and somewhat smoother integration of the romance and other plot points. Didn’t want it to end, a lot of fun.
4.5/5 stars
Safe to say I enjoyed THE KISS CURSE just as much as THE EX HEX. If you’re looking for a rom com series set in the cutest town with real witches, Halloween vibes, and handsome Welshmen, look no further. The banter is A+ and Sir Purrcival the talking cat is a star.
In this second book, Gwyn Jones and Wells Penhallow find themselves competing to see whose shop can draw the most business during the town of Graves Glen busy season: October. Gwyn remembers Wells as an arrogant sorcerer from their college days; Wells doesn’t remember Gwyn. The more their paths cross, the two find that, inconveniently, they really want to kiss each other’s faces off. This book is so cute and a perfect spooky season read! Like the first book, it’s giving grown-up Sabrina the Teenage Witch and I love that.
Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager for an early copy in exchange for my honest review.
What a fun seasonal read and a great follow-up novel! I enjoyed The Kiss Curse even more than The Ex Hex. The chemistry and steam were both excellent, and I really enjoyed the bickering banter. The ending was a little rushed and lackluster to me; I didn’t love that there was little to no explanation for Gwyn all of a sudden getting her powers back or for Wells breaking into Morgan’s home. It came across like, “this happened, and don’t ask why or how.” But overall, I really enjoyed it and hope we will see more of the baby witches in the future—maybe in Bowen’s love story??
The Kiss Curse beat the “sophomore slump” curse easily.
The Ex Hex was cute with the most perfect atmosphere for a cozy Halloween read. The Kiss Curse did that, only better. Gwyn was a highlight for me in the first book of this series, but she shined even more in her own book. Her relationship with Wells was hilarious and sweet. I believed their love and fell for their romance. The subplot of the two of them working together made my heart happy.
This was a sweet and short read!
Absolutely loved The Kiss Curse! I really liked The Ex Hex, so I was coming into this one with a lot of expectations. Both were so fun to read and the town of Grave’s Glen is so magical, literally! Haha. I love the dynamic between the Jones cousins, Vivi and Gwyn, and of course their chemistry and banter with the Penhallow boys, Rhys and Wells. The perfect witchy romance to get you in the Halloween spirit!
“The Kiss Curse” was a fun, spooky season romance. It has magic and fantasy elements as the book centers around witches with some features of werewolves. While the book went by quickly, I can’t say that I loved this one such that I’d read it again every fall. Accordingly, this one is a 3 star rating for me. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy for review.
This book gives me all the fall time, small town, Halloween feels that I was craving this season. Gwyn Jones is the only Jones witch in Graves Glen while her cousin Vivi and Rhys take their honeymoon. She finds herself stuck with the irritating and handsome Wells Penhallow, who she just can't stop thinking about. With her hands full running her shop during tourist season, mentoring some young witches, and dealing with a new coven in town the last thing she needs is for her powers to start mysteriously flickering in and out. Wells may be the only one who can help her - in more ways than one.
I absolutely love the characters and the world of Graves Glen and would definitely read more in this storyline (maybe Bowen??). The baby witches and Sir Purrcival were wonderful and true highlights. The Kiss Curse was a quick and enjoyable read. The plot doesn't really start happening until the book is over halfway through, but to be honest I liked all the character development happening so much that I didn't even mind. Readers would be fine jumping into the series here if you haven't read the first book, but it was fun following a new character in the Jones family. As a romance book there's a little steamy action, but more focus is put on the buildup between the two characters. The banter between Wells and Gwyn is delightfully witty and really showcases her sass.
This is the perfect read for October. It's a cute romance and fun to lose yourself in for a few hours. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC! I really look forward to more from Erin Sterling
Another fun witchy read for Erin Sterling!
I loved Gwyn's character in The Ex Hex so it was exciting to see she was getting her own book. Dare I say, I think I liked this more than The Ex Hex. I can totally picture the witchy town of Grave's Glenn and was happy to be transported back. The enemies/rivals to lovers is one of my favs, I loved Wells, and we got some great spicy scenes!
Highly recommend for spooky/witchy season!
Thank you to Net Galley and Avon Books for the eARC.
This was super cute! I always love enemies to lovers and dual pov! Also soo wish I were a witch! This was a perfect read for spooky season! The supporting cast was amazing. I love the baby witches and can’t wait for the next book!
Thank you Avon for my gifted copy in exchange for a honest review!
Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the opportunity to read the eARC.
I went back and forth between four and five stars for this one. Is it a perfect book? No. Are there points in the book where I roll my eyes a bit? Yes. But it was the absolute best palate cleanser between heavier reads, and I was so entertained that I read it in a day.
Full disclosure: I never read The Ex Hex. I was going to, but the reviews on that one were mixed, and I wanted to see if this one could be read alone. It definitely can. I even understood the gist of what happened in the first book.
Gwyn is entertaining, confident, and a bit of a whirlwind. I liked her from the start, and even though she had hang-ups, it was nice that they weren't overdone. Some of her antics were a bit over the top (when the eye-rolling came in), but overall, she was a fun FMC.
It started a bit with the Sunshine vs. Grumpy trope, but Wells' character arc was a nice touch without feeling too much like a 180 in personality. He turned out to be quite swoon-worthy (especially during some of the steamier scenes).
The plot is one area that could have been a little more developed. There's a story and even a side story, but they were thinner than I would have liked. However, enough of a plot existed that I zipped right through, despite seeing the twists and turns up ahead.
Overall, very entertaining read.
