Thank you so much to NetGalley and Kensington Books for my copy of Falling Stars by Fern Michaels in exchange for an honest review. It published September 27, 2022.
This was my first book by Fern Michaels and I definitely can see why she is popular. I found the story overall to be cute and charming, and I especially loved that it was almost a Thanksgiving-time story rather just a Christmas one.
I will say I found a few of the characters to be a little annoying and unreasonable, but it worked for the overall story.
Another thing is that I totally want to go to Colorado now!

This was my first time reading a book by Fern Michaels, and I can say I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her books! I was reading this book around the Christmas holidays and felt like I was on vacation at Snowdrift Summit. There were times that I laughed at the antics of Emily and Kylie. Everyone needs a best friend like these two! Zach may have been a star, but he fit right in with the locals. I will be recommending this book to my reader friends.

As usual Fern Michaels has written an excellent holiday read. Her Christmas stories always have lots of emotion and this one was no exception. It contains lots of family time which as always includes family drama. As it is set at a ski lodge, this book is best enjoyed in front of a fire with a warm cup of hot chocolate.

Emily has finally stood her ground and told her parents that she wants something different than taking over the family ski resort. Since the resort has been in the family for some time now, it came as a bit of a surprise that Emily would want something different. But they’ve agreed to her request, and she’s agreed to their wishes… for the moment.

Zach may be a daredevil onscreen, but even the best need training on some things. And Zach definitely needs training on a difficult ski slope that will play a major part in the current film he’s starring in. The best ski instructor for that mountain slope? Emily. Life in this small town just got interesting.

Toss in best friends who stake their own claim, residents who aren’t very trusting of these outsiders coming into town, and a major decision for Emily, and you have a situation (and a story) that is full of possibilities along with some major entanglements.

I found Falling Stars to be a funny, romantic story with all the small-town shenanigans and opinions I’d expect, along with two people who really do set sparks off of each other trying to find their way into each other’s worlds. While I wouldn’t necessarily call this a Christmas Romance, it certainly does have elements of the holiday and plenty of heart throughout. I had fun here, and if you’re in the mood to begin your Christmas-y reading now, then this one would be just right for you.

Life's dreams can be shattered in a moment or a day. So decisions must be contemplative. Time to take a stance or do with the flow. That with Colorado background and a handsome movie star. I enjoyed.

Emily Ammerman is a renowned ski instructor, whose family owns a Colorado resort. Her parents want her to take over running the resort, but she just wants to teach and ski. Her father has agreed to having scenes from a movie filmed at the resort and Emily is asked to train the star of the movie to skie "The Plunge". When Emily meets Zach Ryder, she is attracted to him, but her BFF, Kylie, is infatuated and she doesn't want to cause a problem with their friendship. Zach is attracted to Emily and pursues her, feeling comfortable with her and wanting more than just friendship or teacher/student relationships. Meanwhile her mother has negative feelings towards show business people, but she won't share. Throw in some family secrets and this story has a lot to sort out for everyone to get their happy endings.

Falling Stars is a wonderful Fern Michaels' Christmas story, just what I have come to expect. There is friendship, romance, angst, family secrets and happy endings for everyone. I liked all the characters and even though Kylie frustrated me at times with her immaturity. Emily's family was loving and their relationship with Kylie, the bonus daughter, was wonderful. This was such a happy story especially when the secrets that both her parents had kept came to light. I liked how everything worked out, the happy ever afters and the lovely Christmas atmosphere. Although this was a predictable story, it was enjoyable and I recommend it if you are looking for a sweet, Christmas story.

DNF’d at 36%.

I just felt like not a lot was happening and it wasn’t keeping my attention.

The synopsis sounded so good, but I have yet to read any interaction between the movie star and Emily.

Fern Michaels’ Falling Stars is the story of Emily Ammerman, a ski instructor at her family’s resort in Colorado. Zach Ryder, an actor who plays a CIA agent, hires Emily to teach him how to ski. I voluntarily read and reviewed this complimentary copy of this well-written, lovely, feel-good book.

The perfect holiday story. This seasonal romance takes place in a small Colorado town reminiscent of what you’d expect of a ski resort. Totally all the feels and a light easy read. Of course there is a little mystery surrounding some of Emily’s family members which is revealed by books end. The ideal setting for a Christmas story and Fern gives a great description of the resort and all things affiliated with that setting. Also included are recipes for the reader to make which I’m always grateful for as they sounded delicious. All in all a cozy read to enjoy on a wintry Christmas season. All opinions are my own. Thank you #NetGalley

Emily lives and is the lead ski instructor at her family resort in Colorado. Her parents surprise and shock her when they announce they are retiring and turning the resort over to her. She has been secretly planning to leave and expand her horizons before returning to run the resort in the future. When a movie company books rooms to teach the cast to ski for their next thriller Emily is shocked to see her secret crush, Ryan as the lead actor. Lots of turmoil and action before their romance can run smoothly. A nice Christmas story by Fern Michaels.

Loved the story of Emily and Zach. A tale of trusting in oneself, family, friendship, and love. A perfect way to start the holidays and get into the holiday spirit,

This book was not good. Falling Stars was supposed to be a sweet holiday romance between a 29 year old ski instructor and a movie star who is at the ski lodge filming his next movie. Instead, it was an absolute mess. The main female was a spoiled, childish brat who was consistently rude and dishonest to her parents and her best friend. All of their conversations were absolutely cringeworthy. The main male was bland and boring. The romance was an unbelievable instalove story in which the characters had zero chemistry. There were random side plots thrown in which made zero sense and added nothing to the story. The best thing about this book was the pretty cover.

I really wanted to like this book as a cozy Christmas read. Unfortunately, for me it was just way too much of a sappy predictable story.

Usually I inhale a Fern Michael’s book fairly fast. This one was a bit different. It was a very slow build and I didn’t exactly get into the book until the very end.
I formed a partial dislike for Emily’s parents almost from the beginning. They just seemed presumptuous and a bit selfish in regards to Emily’s feelings and plans.
I liked Kylie the best.
The book grew on me but it wasn’t one of my most favorite stories that Michael’s has written.

Falling Stars is a light hearted, clean romance for the holiday season. The characters are ok - I liked the movie star and the setting was great but I felt the women weren’t written as accurately and realistic as I would hope. I also was not a great fan of the family in this one, wasn’t the most lovable and heartwarming interactions.

This is a very sweet Christmas romance. The setting is different in that it takes place at a ski lodge. I have never read a romance with that kind of setting so it hits the mark for uniqueness there.

I like the chemistry between the lead characters and the grandparents are just adorable mixed into this story.

It is very well written but I rated it 4 out of 5 for two reasons. One is that I personally could not connect with the skiing side of the story. The other is that I felt that the romance was a little bit lacking. I prefer more passionate or heartwarming romances and this one struck more of a contemporary cord for me.

Fern Michaels is without question a very good writer. I have loved several of her books.

Cute, short, and festive but really lacking in it's execution. The characters were lacking depth and I struggled with the romance portion because it was so quick and unbelievable. I need more emotion, more interaction... just more. I liked the ski lodge setting and found it to be unique. The grandparents didn't really fit into the story and felt like they were just thrown in there, it just didn't flow very well. Overall, a short read that didn't require a lot from me so this would make a great palate cleanser.
