Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this fantastic sequel!

Jeff Wheeler continues to amaze and enchant in this sequel to The Druid. Eileen is a heroine and hero worth rooting for, Hoel is an enemy/love interest worth hoping for, and Ceyln is the best friend ever asked for. The new characters (the Prince and aldermastons) are charming, the growth from the first book’s villain (Gilliful) is enchanting, and watching Eileen come into her own is incredible.

Wheeler’s world building and lore is breathtaking - it’s deep and rich and clearly shows a man passionate about the places he creates with the touch of a keyboard or scratch of a pen. His storytelling is masterful and I am incredibly excited to see where this trilogy goes when The Betrayed becomes available to wrap up this piece of Muirwood’s history.

I highly recommend Jeff Wheeler’s books to any fantasy fan, especially those that love authors like Tamora Pierce.

I went into this book not realising that it was the second in the series. By 25% of the way through the book, enough of the backstory had been alluded to, I could understand the missing worldbuilding. By 50% of the way through the book, even the small parts I couldn't contextualise didn't matter.

It may take you a few chapters to get into the story, but you will enjoy it once the characters leave Hautland. The action picks up, as do the stakes. I finished the last ~60% of the book in 2 days, it drew me in so well.

Whether you've read The Druid or not, you'll enjoy The Hunted.

An enjoyable and engaging read, one of my new favorites. The main characters are likeable and I appreciated how Jeff Wheeler introduced places that had been mentioned before in his other series. I love Wheeler's books because not only are they very well-written and contain interesting plots often based off of real historical events, but the protagonists have morals and the books are clean.

Great second installment of the newest Muirwood series from Jeff Wheeler. I loved the first series with Lia and this one is just as good.

Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read The Hunted.

I love anything by Jeff Wheeler and was excited to read the second book in this series and to be back in this world. I liked how fast paced this book is EXCEPT the romance (but that’s just me). Otherwise, I enjoyed this and can’t wait for more from this author.

I’m very happy to report that this follow up continues the great adventure from the first book. Eileen remains pursued by Hoel and continues on her mission with the old book. There is a fast pace and urgency to this book as she is both on the run and determined to finish her quest. She travels to new places and meets interesting characters. If you enjoyed the first book you will want to continue her story here. There are also a lot more hints of the world of Kingfountain which I really enjoyed since I love that series. I can’t wait to read the next book! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Hunted
By: Jeff Wheeler

This is the second book in The Dawning of Muirwood and it picked up right where The Druid left off.

Eilean is such a fun character because she doesn’t doubt every decision she makes.
The strength and knowledge she gains in this book were fun to read but I wish she had more time with Captain Hoel.
I also wished Celyn was going to have a larger role in this book, and wanted more of the Druids. The addition of the Puca and increased magic made up for what I thought was missing in the character development department.
I think the book felt a little rushed, and at times it almost read like an essay, but the world building was beautifully done. The end came so suddenly I thought I had skipped a few pages but I’ll be looking forward to the third and final book in this series when it comes out.

This book is expected to come out September 20th of 2022.
I would recommend these books to fantasy lovers who don’t want smut or romance to dominate the book.
Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with an early copy.

Rating: 4/5

A fairly fast paced fantasy novel.
Not having read the first book, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, or if I’d be lost. I think, looking back, it would’ve been preferable to have read it.
Wheeler’s characters and world building is excellent, and I can’t wait to read more of his books!

Thank you to NetGalley, Jeff Wheeler, and 47 North for a copy.

This is my first book by Jeff Wheeler and I'm absolutely blown away. It was super entertaining albeit a little rushed. The world-building was excellent and left nothing to be desired. Other than the romance being a tad rushed, the story flowed at a really good pace and the religious undertones were fascinating.

Overall, I'd rate this book 4/5 stars. The romance was a little rushed, which is one of my favorite things in a book, but the world-building and premise were amazing.

I'd like to thank NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Entertaining for sure from start to finish. A little rushed. And a classic middle book. That’s how I would describe this Novel. I love Jeff Wheeler books and have been particularly fond of his most recent series. While his world is intriguing, each series is unique and entertaining by itself. While this did lag at times being a typical middle book, it didn’t take too much away from enjoyment. There was great character development and lots of good story building. Excited to see where things go next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jeff Wheeler, and 47North for providing me with an advanced reading copy.

Having recently stumbled upon Jeff Wheeler via kindle recommendation on his book “The Druid”, I am a fairly new reader. However that book immediately drew me into one of his many worlds. Immediately upon finishing, I quickly read through the remaining Muirwood series, non of which disappointed, however, have been impatiently awaiting an opportunity to read and review the remaining books of the dawning of muirwood series. “The Hunted” did not disappoint, it represented a continuing refinement and enrichment of the characters and world of Muirwood. From the first to the last page, it was a difficult book to put down. For those with an imagination, who love immersive reading, I highly recommend “The Hunter”. It could easily stand on its own, though I recommend reading “The Druid” first to draw yourself into the richness of Muirwood. These books contain something for everyone. I myself love history, so the ability to go back and dove into the history, or “dawning” of what has become a favorite fictional world of mine, was a great opportunity. I anxiously await the third book in this series and hope that I’m offered the opportunity to read and review it soon!

I'm never disappointed by Wheeler's books. This one continues the story of Eilean and the founding of Muirwood. As always the character stories and romantic subplots are engaging, but the really intriguing thing about this book is the way that it ties things together between the other Muirwood series and some of Wheeler's other series as well. As a fan of the extended Wheeler universe, I was delighted by all of the nods and Easter eggs that I recognized. Looking forward to the conclusion of Eilean's story, and to whatever Wheeler writes next!

The Hunted
by Jeff Wheeler
Pub Date: 20 Sep 2022

A young woman’s burgeoning powers make her Muirwood’s most wanted in a breathtaking novel by Jeff Wheeler, Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Druid.

Eilean is rising. A foundling raised in an abbey, she was entrusted by its imprisoned druid, Mordaunt, with an ancient tome. Its magical words can change the world. Eilean’s first mission: translate it. Her second: rescue a benevolent Aldermaston sentenced to death as a heretic by the High Seer. But wielding power, knowledge, and ambition has now made Eilean the hunted.

In pursuit is Captain Hoel Evnissyen, an inquisitor in service to the High Seer’s demands. His objective is to track Eilean and steal Mordaunt’s invaluable work. But Hoel’s quest soon yields a fascination with the woman he’s been ordered to pursue. When an invasion begins and the world erupts in chaos, Eilean and Hoel find themselves bound by their mutual wills to survive and, against all odds, realize they are not each other’s enemy.

But now Eilean must decide who is friend and who is foe. Especially when the powerful tome falls into the wrong hands. The closer Eilean and Hoel get, the nearer they are to realizing the part they must play in their kingdom’s destiny—and its ties to Eilean’s own mysterious past.

This series is becoming my favorite after the Wretched of Muirwood series. Eilean is a very strong character, and while I don't find myself much attached to Celyn or Stright, She's enough to keep the series going. I read this in one sitting today and it brought me to tears, some of the beauty of it. Does the romance move illogically fast? Yes. Do I care? Not at all! I thought the story flowed quite well, travel, adventure, destiny. along with Eilean's character struggles, who to trust, who to not trust, how to communicate with people. I feel that Wheelers world he's created carries a lot of weight, And I think this is due to the religious undertones, I relate to a lot of the beliefs he portrays, and the wisdom that is carried in the worldbuilding is very satisfying. While his prose sometimes makes me laugh with its formality. I am quite excited for the next book in this series,

Thank you to Jeff Wheeler, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early!!! This book is amazing and picks up right where The Druid left off. Eilean is on a mission for the Medium to protect an ancient tome and decipher it. She’s being hunted by the “church” or High Seer, faces off with kishion assassins, and even encounters the evil hetaera order which is bent on bringing down the Mastons (people with faith in the medium) and their abbeys. It’s such a good story and I really am looking forward to the next book.

It’s so refreshing to read anything by Jeff. He is an amazing author that focuses on the plot and story with ties in to Christianity (much like Tolkien and CS Lewis). I absolutely love all of Jeff’s book and this is no exception. I love the prequel we are getting to the Muirwood novels already. Also, in all his books the worlds are connected sometimes subtly and other times more in depth but this series really delves into how much they are connected and the history… this new series essentially ties together King Fountain, Mirrowen, Muirwood, and even the Grave Kingdom (references to it at least). His stories are so well written and interesting that he’s an auto buy/read author anytime he publishes a new work!

This is the second book to The Druid, and it picks right up from there. Eilean’s powers have levelled up but she’s still conflicted. Its hard having feelings for someone who is hunting you- whether those feelings are admiration, or the longing of friendship. But as they heed their interpretations of the Medium's will, worlds collide.

The end of this book is amazing, and I cannot wait for the next!

It was another good book by Jeff Wheeler. If you have read and enjoyed his other work, you will like this one. It is the second novel in his latest series and adds more to the intriguing magic system his books have.

As usual, I'm blown away by Jeff Wheeler's writing. The detail, the world building, the characters- I fall in love every time. I love how each story shows new connections between his worlds. I cannot get enough and am so thankful that he continues to write- and so quickly! Here's to eagerly awaiting the next one!

THE HUNTED is the second book in the Dawning of Muirwood series. This novel has excellent pacing. It is a well-balanced combination of adventure & heart as well as the perfect amount of detail as it doesn't bog down the pacing. This story continues to reveal information about the Muirwood world, but reading the previous novels isn't necessary.

Eilean continues to grow as the stakes raise higher throughout the story. I read this book late into the night, every night, wanting to know how she was going to resolve her problems. Continual hooks and my connection to the readers kept me interested. The enemies-to-lovers was brilliantly done. I love it when I see characters that have great chemistry *but* they also have a great reason to distrust each other as they're working at cross-purposes. As always, this author keeps the romance PG-rated.

The reader gets taken to fantastic new settings and we meet interesting new characters .

At the heart, this story is about power and corruption. It's also about quiet reflection and kindness.
