6 Ripley Avenue by Noelle Holten was an interesting story.
I was immediately drawn into it once I started.
The characters drew me in. And the writing was solid.
I just wished it would have had a bit more suspense and intrigue.
Still a good read and I believe most will truly enjoy it.

One More Chapter,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This book was rather weak. The characters lacked authenticity. The plot was confusing and I kept getting distracted. I just don’t think it was a strong enough storyline.
I was so looking forward to reading this and am privileged to have gotten it early from Netgalley. It’s a slow build up at the start which is not a negative criticism but as the story goes along, the tension escalates and the culprit could be anyone, I saw Helen as a Miss Marple figure and every time she appeared in the book, I imagined her looking exactly like Joan Hickson which is probably a hundred miles away from how the author saw her. A throughly enjoyable and gripping read.
This is the first stand alone story this author has written. If you love the dc Maggie Jamieson series the.n you will love this.
Each chapter is written from the perspective of a different character and their part in the events around 6 Ripley avenue.
This book had a lot of twists and turns and a lot of suspense that kept you wanting to carry on reading and wanting to know more.
This one wasn't really up my alley?! Its worth reading and it was a decent read but I just couldn't get into it?! It did have suspense, intrigue, action, and a few twists and turns! The storyline was ok for me but didn't grab me! I would recommend reading this to certain people as it was worth reading! It just wasn't one of my top favorite! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Just an OK from me for this one.
I liked the multiple person narrative, and having the killer voice his thoughts.
It was good that out of so few suspects you couldn't be sure which one it was.
I didnt find a single character likeable, and the story was just too slow at times.
Very much a mixed bag.
6 Ripley Avenue is a fast read that weaves together a whodunit in a place where everyone has a motive. The narration follows three women and the killer, one who is in charge of the probation house, one is a journalist, and one is a nosey neighbor who wants the place shut down. Out of all of these, I found Helen's narration to be the most impactful, since she is an older woman who is trying her best to move through her grief at her husband's passing and trying to cope in a world where she is mostly seen as invisible. While the other perspectives felt a bit overly familiar, Helen's stood out.
The main thing I wished had gotten more attention was who the other men who were living in the probation house were because the lack of knowledge of them made it feel more frustrating while trying to sort out who could have been the murderer. Unfortunately, I feel like the murderer gets signaled very early on and the narration from the killer doesn't really add much to the story.

Noelle Holten's 6 Ripley Avenue is an intriguing stand-alone book that starts off with a bang. This is my first book by Holten, who has six books to her credit. Noelle Holten is the author of the best-selling Maggie Jamieson series.
Synopsis:
Jeanette is the manager of a home for high-risk criminals who have been released on probation. During the early hours of the morning, Jeanette receives a call informing her one of the residents has been brutally murdered. Upon arriving at the scene, Jeanette discovers that her security team and all the residents are suspects in the investigation. Will the killer be caught before someone else dies?
6 Ripley Avenue is a slow burn that builds to a satisfying conclusion. Noelle Holten spent eighteen years as a Senior Probation Officer and is well versed in writing criminal novels. She describes probation procedures with a wealth of knowledge. The characters are interesting and diverse.
6 Ripley Avenue by Noelle Holten is available on September 27th.
Thank you, NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, for allowing me to review this mysterious novel. I appreciate your kindness.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the copy of 6 Ripley Avenue. The story sounded great, but the pacing was so slow it just fell apart and didn’t hold my interest. I never connected to the characters because they felt one-dimensional. I think if you already love this author and her writing you will like this book. This was my first book by this author and it wasn’t for me.
OMG this is going to be a tough mystery thriller to beat this year!! 6 Ripley Avenue is filled with action, good characters, bad characters, twists and MYSTERY!!! Absolutely incredible.
The story follows Sloane, Jeanette and Helen who all want to get to the bottom of who murdered Danny Wells. Sloane and Helen being good friends, have always been against the approved premises and wanted nothing more than it to never have been there. Whereas Janette is the manager and senior probation officer of the house and wants the killer caught and recalled.
All of the characters in this book were extremely well written, authentic and lifelike – some made me cringe, which just adds to the facts of how well they were portrayed but the main three were all a favourite of mine for different reasons.
This is definitely one book that you need to add to your TBR and Preorder list this year. It kept me hooked from start to finish and by the end sent shivers down my spine.
This is Holtens first standalone thriller after writing the fantastic DC Maggie Jamieson series and oh boy, has she nailed it!!
I can not wait to see what comes next.
Intrigue...innovative...written by a talented author who writes a cannot put down book...this book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher for the electronic copy. Although this is fiction, it often reads like nonfiction...next door? down the street? in another town close by? Where might these places be? What might happen? What did happen? What could happen? The novel does move slowly, at times, it is a character driven story that is intriguing.
I was approved for this book yesterday and I dived straight into it. I’ve read the authors DI Maggie Jamieson series and I’m a massive fan of these books. As this is a standalone book I admit to being a big apprehensive about it, what if I don’t like it. Well now I needn’t have been worrying. This book was absolutely superb. A gripping and page turning crime thriller, It’s a must read,
Okay! This book has absolutely interesting and promising plot line! But the execution was too slow! Pacing never picked up even though the chapters are short and choosing multi POVs to tell the story normally work good for unfolding the mysteries. But this time that short chapters didn’t get you intrigued enough to move on to the next one.
The story set at 6 Ripley House Approved Premises: the place where some of the
UK's most heinous violent offenders - released on licence to serve the remainder of their time in the community.
Of course the neighbors were not happy about the existence of this place. The local residents and the neighbourhood watch scheme, run by Helen Burgess, had complained when they were first informed of the probation hostel location.
And things get escalated when one of the convicted criminals is killed brutally. Danny Wells had so many enemies and nobody wanted him to live! He already made his bed. Not only his fellow criminal residents but also the staff of probation premises may be involved in his murder case.
The book started as an exciting whodunnit mystery. But a few chapter later I started to lose my enthusiasm.
The characters including Investigative Crime Journalist Sloane and nosy neighbor Helen were dislikable. Jeanette: senior probation officer may be the only character you can connect with.
The identity of killer was so obvious from the beginning and with slow pacing, you just get more frustrated at each chapter as the story get dragged! I just want to scream the author wrap things up immediately. I was a little out of patience. Okay, quick correction: I was enormously out of patience!
Overall: I’m giving three solid stars for unique plot line and promising start but I was expecting more. I got a little disappointed.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
Really enjoyed this very original debut thriller- a look inside a rarely seen world as well as an unusual plot with deliciously diabolical cast of characters. Easy five and I can’t wait to see more from this writer!
