Ugh. I thought this would be a quick, fun read. but it is so full of cringe cliches that I had to force myself to finish it. all the jokes felt like someone was showing me a funny meme and then watching me and waiting for my laugh. I wanted to think that is was funny but it just wasn't. The main characters were so flat, they only had like 2 personality traits that were mentioned over and over and over and over that I could not. It also felt very immature and young. Maybe she is new to writing, maybe she will get better with time but she will have to work hard to get me to read another of her books.

Hex Appeal by Kate Johnson is a fun, entertaining romance for those who love a magical twist and witches - of course!

Essie Winterscale lives in a huge and ever-changing house in the village of Good Winter, in deepest, darkest Essex. She lives with various witches of various ages, one of whom is still a bit salty about having been burned at the stake in 1635, one who keeps accidentally casting fertility spells, and one who knits things that create the future.

All Essie ever wanted was to have a normal life but in the end she found herself drawn back to Beldam House because she just can’t stop her witchiness (although the ability to instantly chill wine is pretty awesome, even she has to admit).

Into this coven of chaos stumbles gorgeous, clueless Josh, their new landlord – and he’s just discovered his tenants haven’t paid rent since the 1700s! As Josh is drawn further into the lives of the inhabitants of Beldam House, Essie is determined to keep him at broomstick’s length. That is, until a family secret, lying hidden for centuries, puts Josh firmly under her spell…

This book was delightful, witchy fun. Kept me engrossed in the story and wanting more. Loved every part of it. I'm a sucker for a good witchy book and will definitely be adding a physical copy to my home library. Gimme all the witchy rom coms. LOL.

I really loved this fun, pacey witchy romance - I'm so pleased this genre's having its moment in the sun! Hex Appeal has a great main character in Essie and bucketloads of chemistry in its romance. The plot goes a little bit off the wall, but in a very entertaining way. I loved the house full of strange witches so much! This is the kind of book you can read in one sitting and just have a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Ok so this book is not that bad, but for whatever reason I can’t really get into it and for now I will have to DNF it. I will come back around to re read and I’m sure my rating will change as it does seem to be an enjoyable read

This book was so much fun. Exploring an unlikely romance between a human and a witch and their journey through time and back as they try to uncover some weird happenings.

Not everyone approves of this romance, and some hiccups arise along the way as memories are wiped clean and things get muddy.

Very light, very fun, and very STEAMY!

Super cute supernatural romance story. It had a little bit of everything and it all wraps up neatly. Good book to curl up with a cuppa.

This was a nice read. The characters were generally well written and the plot kept me interested. I guess it was missing the spark of chemistry, and at time it did feel like a bit of a drag.

Overall I did enjoy reading this and I'm looking for reading more by this author.

Thank you to the publisher for kindly providing me with an ARC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Hex Appeal called me with the cover and I really liked the setting and characters in this story. However, the plot could have been smoother and the pace was a bit too slow for my taste.
Witchy, funny book

Anything witchy is a must for me which is why I loved this book so much! I loved the romance in it the most, it was just so perfect.

I think the harder I try to be a “witchy” gal , the further away from it I get. Hex Appeal left me simply whelmed. It was good, not great for me and left something to be desired. What is it, you may ask? I have no idea.

Here’s what I do know: slow-burn, lotta quirky characters, some fun banter, all the witchy vibes, and some deep generational drama. It’s mysterious as you try and unravel everything happening.

Just incredible. The romance, the tension, the world building, the quirky characters, and the humor. Such an exquisite and cozy book!! I can't wait for more books from Kate Johnson!!

This was a really fun read. I had some genuine laugh out loud moments.
Unfortunately, the romance fell a little flat for me. I think mostly because it was in third person I found it hard to connect with Essie and Josh. Both are extremely likeable characters (on their own) but I found the chemistry lacking. However, I loved the awkwardness and realness of their love scenes, it was such a refreshing change.
Josh's awkwardness in the beginning came across quite fatphobic in my opinion and it was hard to root for him and Essie after that. I understand him a little better after finishing the book, but his thoughts on Essie climbing the stairs were not something I'd expect from a romance.
The pacing was a little slow, but then things took a turn that I really wasnt expecting and it peaked my interest again.
Overall this was a sweet story that in all honesty would have been just as enjoyable without the romance.
I'm curious to see if there will be other stories about the rest of the witches.

This book was the definition of a cozy read.
It had low-angst with heaps of loveable characters which made it such a pleasant and easy book for me to read.
I didn't love that it was written in third person, but it was still enjoyable despite it. It had a quirky sense of humour which I really enjoyed and I truely hope that we get more books set in this world.
If you love the Ex Hex, Hex Appeal is definitely a book you should pick up.

Thankyou NetGalley for this arc.

Unfortunately this was just not for me, I had to give up on it and I hate doing that. It was just too far fetched and the plot was all over the place.

I’m sure some people will love it but sadly I’m not one of them.

I loved the romance between Essie and Josh and how they were almost destined over the centuries to come together and heal the rift between their families. I loved all the side characters with their unique quirks and the way they supported one another.
