Hex Appeal was absolutely fantastical! Johnson wrote a story that was so well written I found myself flying through the pages, unable to put the book down, pondering what would happen next. My favorite piece of this entire story was how believable the characters were.

The writing is clear and clean, and very immersive. The book hums along at a good clip, but the pacing makes sure we're given time to breathe between plot-intensifying moments. The story was absolutely engaging and the work that went into the settings was noticeable and superb. I felt absolutely transported and I'm so incredibly glad I was able to read an arc of this story.

I thought this was going to be a cute lil witchy romcom when I requested it from NetGalley, but this felt like just a mash up of a bunch of different ideas and published.

I laughed out loud many times during this delightful little story full of quirky characters. What starts with a quest to recover overdue rent by new UK resident Josh, turns into an end of the world adventure when he meets undercover witch Essie and her housemates. Set in a sleepy little English village this story is equal parts cozy mystery, contemporary romance and witchy fantasy.

While the first half of the book concentrates on the characters and their budding relationships to each other, the second half dives headlong into fighting a centuries old evil. I found Josh and Essie's interactions fun and spicier than I expected but it is definitely a slow build. Essie's fellow witches are entertaining but could have used more fleshing out so that we cared more about them but seeing all the witchy creations was interesting and would've loved to see even more of it.

The latter half while amusing, warps from one incident to another and so the pacing feels a little too fast and loses some of the impact. I loved the ending and would love to read more of this world with Josh's sister maybe being the main character or else just an update on how everyone is doing. Recommend for those who want a quick lively read with a dash of romance and magic.

I definitely got Encanto vibes in this spicy, witchy read! It's perfect for those fall, cozy reads!! The witches of Good Winter are charmingly eccentric and unique! This story is a quirky rom-com read with a little spice!! It's the perfect book for Oct that's less horror and more fun! I laughed out loud at certain points and was thoroughly entertained!!

Thank you Netgalley, Harper Collins UK, and One More Chapter for the review copy!

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with a digital ARC of this tile via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I hesitate to review this title because I could not finish it. Others might enjoy it, but it was not for me. I tried several times, but found it ridiculous and over-the-top cliched. I couldn't do it.

This book was super cute and cozy. I loved the concept and the setting and the main character. The house was my favorite part ever. It feel like Practical Magic for sure. I will say that it felt very slow in the middle and I struggled to pass the midway point and complete this novel. Most books don’t take me this long so that was odd for me. I couldn’t say why but not much happened. I would’ve loved to see more house-y, witchy stuff maybe? And stuff did happen at the end but very quickly. Overall this was a 3.5 rounded up solely for the house and the atmosphere. A good time.

I really really liked this book, I am a sucker for a book with a good healthy dose of magic and this was brilliant.
Josh moves from the US to the UK and stumbles across a coven of witches in one of this rental properties (happens to all of us of course!) and I loved the way the tale played out.
I really enjoyed how Kate Johnson included the history of witchcraft into her writing, it made it informative as well as enjoyable! A good read!

This was a fun witchy read that I enjoyed. The plot was good with multiple timelines and it was fun to see the main characters love blossom.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy to honestly review.

I feel like this book was done several times this year and in years past and those were more successfully executed. This was fun, but forgettable. That being said it was the perfect read for spooky season, especially if you prefer your spooky season more light and cozy than dark and scary. It is a charming read to enjoy while sitting on the back porch among the falling leaves with a cup of cider. It will suit you if that's the goal, but I'd look elsewhere if you are after a little more substance.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I liked the whimsy and the humour, but it meant that the overall plot and the relationship fell a bit short. I ended up just skimming the last 50% or so because I wasn't engaged. I suppose it helped in that instance that the plot was fast paced.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book, but unfortunately it was not a stand out. It felt a little bit like a hallmark movie that lost interest midway through. I kept reading, and I did like it, but I think it could have used some work. Thanks for the ARC!

Honestly, I just don’t find this book cute. This book is clearly trading on this trend for witch-themed rom-coms, but it lacks charm. A lot of that lack is in the premise for me. I hate that the hero inherits being a landlord and the witches are sucks about it. First, squatters rights or whatever. Get a lawyer. Second, there’s no chemistry. The writing has the characters noticing each other is hot, but not really clicking. It just leaves me cold.

DNF. I couldn't get into the story and found the initial house and character introductions (sisters especially) confusing and overwhelming. I wish I felt more of a connection between Essie and the male protagonist.

I enjoyed the premise of this, and a lot of the side characters were highly entertaining.
This just moved a bit slow for my taste, very long winded.
Essie & Josh develop a relationship, both too fast and extremely slowly.
I don't know how else to describe it.
The mystery surrounds the town and the magic bits are all very cool.
Thanks to NetGalley & HarperCollins UK for my ARC.

Essie Winterscale is a witch who lives in a huge everchanging Encantoesque house in a small village in Essex which has a curse on it so people who find it once they leave never remember they were there. They end up with a new landlord Josh who breaks a spell orb and recites a spell unconsciously that makes the house curse not work on him as well and he finds the deed to the house and asks for his back rent since they have been living there 300 years without paying rent. There is of course a family curse on joshs side that threatens the whole world that they need to finally vanquish. All in all, a good story and the last push to stop the evil and vanquish the villain was pretty good.

Thanks to One More Chapter and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.

The perfect read to read after the ex hex! I loved the witch vibes for fall and enjoyed reading this book. Can’t wait to see what the author puts out next.

I really struggled with this one, found it difficult to get into a good rhythm with it, and usually I'm ALL for a witchy romance so that was a bit disappointing. There just felt like there was a bit too much going on and in the end, I may come back to it again to retry it.

What happens when your on opposite sides and fall in love. When your bosses set you up and not in a good way. A little magic, some mayhem and a chicken house.
Kate Johnson writes a fun witchy tale of things gone wrong or things going right. I'm excited to read the rest in this hope to ge a series.
