Wow! Nicole Trope hit this one out of the park. Great domestic thriller with non stop action. Loved the layout and storyline and everything about this book. Really great characters that kept me totally invested, I could not quit turning the pages. So well done. Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
This is, hands down, one of the best thrillers I have read this year. Nicole Trope just keeps getting better and better with each new book.
Even two years after his divorce, Gideon is unable to stop himself from running to his ex-wife Sarah, everytime she needs help, if only for their daughter Emily's sake. Sarah's deteriorating mental health worries him no end and he refuses to put Emily in danger. Charlotte had given up hope of finding love or becoming a mother when Gideon and Emily came into her life and now she can't imagine a world without them. But Sarah's looming presence in their family life makes her apprehensive. Sarah regrets having divorced Gideon and breaking up their family. Now Emily is all that she has and she refuses to give her up without a fight.
From the very first chapter, the narrative resounds with a sense of foreboding. The author's writing deserves special mention here as she instils dread and discomfort on behalf of the characters as she plies on the suspense. Clues are generously sprinkled throughout the narrative that by about halfway in, you get an inkling of what exactly is happening. And yet you can't help that heart-in-your-mouth feeling as the climax unveils.
The plot revealed through the POVs of the three main characters - Gideon, Sarah and Charlotte - touches upon matters of mental health issues, the mindset of children from broken families, the depths of a mother's love, and about yearning for lost love. The author skillfully wields emotion as she does intrigue through her narrative, making Sarah's grief, Charlotte's insecurity and Gideon's moral dilemma all the more palpable.
Overall, totally addictive and utterly unputdownable. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you for allowing me to review this latest book from Nicole Trope. She writes thrillers so well. I was hooked from beginning to end, so many twists, so much to ponder as you read on.
The story centres on 3 main characters Sarah, a mother with one daughter, who miscarried her 2nd baby and has a breakdown. She pushes away her husband Gideon who divorces her. He marries Charlotte. The story is told from the viewpoint of these characters, although others play a part.
I recommend this to anyone who loves to read psychological thrillers. I'm looking forward to reading more by Nicole Trope.
3.5 - This was a good fast paced little thriller! It was in 3 different POVS Sarah’s, the first wife and mother Gideon the ex husband and father and charlotte the new wife. The first half the book was a little slow but the chapters are short and it switched pov each chapter which kept it interesting. Than when got past the 50 % mark this thriller sped up real good! And there was so many twist and turns I did not see coming!!! I enjoyed it overall! Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book for a review!
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of His Other Wife. Phenomenal Book!!!!! I Absolutely Loved this novel. You will think you figured out some of it and then Whoa here comes another twisty turn!!!! A definite rollercoaster of a ride. Lucky you who will be reading this, I couldn’t get enough of the characters. Did NOT want this to end.
A chills down your spine domestic psychological thriller.
This book was fantastic and one of the first I’ve read by this author. I will be running and fixing that right away! After Sarah miscarried her second child she was committed to a mental institution. Gideon divorced her and now has custody of their child Emily. He’s moved on and has started seeing Charlotte though there is a lot of rules to their relationship it seems. Mainly being Sarah will always remain a part of their lives. As we go into the story and it unfolds before us we realize that we aren’t really sure who we should trust. I love unreliable narrators so the pages flew for this book for me. The twists and turns and jaw dropping situations that the characters experienced did not disappoint in anyway. If you love a good eyebrow raising dramatic mystery, this is the book for you.
Sarah had it all. The perfect husband, the most beautiful little girl but all that ended when Sarah miscarried their son… she broke inside so much she pushed Gideon away.
Gideon remarries and moves on and just as she was getting her life into some kind of an order, that's when he came… the whisper man. Speaking unspeakable things and tearing Sarah's sanity into shreds.
She knows she needs help so when Gideon checks her into the best hospital money can buy, she knows she needs to get her mind under control for her daughter… but will the whisper man disappear or will he break Sarah down until there is nothing left…
Whoa!! This book was a mind warp and a half! My heart was racing for most of the book and that rarely happens to me! I finished the whole book in one sitting. I had to know what was going on!
Gideon, such an amazing man but it makes you wonder why he moved on so fast. Why marry someone else so quickly? It was the only thing that really didn't make much sense to me in the book but it's so trivial and easy to overlook it.
Sarah is so well written and I love how flawed she is. I feel Charlotte massively got the raw deal in the whole situation. I couldn't help feeling so sorry for her.
It's the kind of psychological thriller that doesn't paint an obvious picture of what is going on and you never truly know what's going to happen next until it smacks you upside the head! I was engaged and thoroughly entertained from start to finish.
Take yourself on a wild ride that will have the hairs on the back of your neck stand up until the very last creepy word.
5 stars! If you love the kind of thriller that will have you biting your nails down to the cuticles then this is going to knock your socks off.
Thank you Netgalley and bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review
I adored this from start to finish, what a brilliant read! Wonderful characters, gripping plot and a fabulous ending, what more could you ask for?
I was completely gripped by this book right from the start and I couldn't put it down. It was twisty, unpredictable and kept me on the edge of my seat. A total page turning read.
This book was great, the characters were well developed. The plot was interesting. Highly recommend it.
Nicole Trope is an amazing story teller. This is the second book I’ve read of hers and I couldn’t put this one down either! Loved this story line!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
What a ride! I was so caught up in this plot that I zoomed through the book in one sitting. It didn't drag on and was just the right amount of suspenseful building to the end. I have to say I thought, at first, it was easy to guess the who and why, however, I was really surprised by several of the plot twists that happened. The characters were told with such depth and careful layers that you were totally vested from the beginning. You cheered and cringed as each one progressed through the events. For me, it was not like other thrillers in that the quick pacing and central characters remained strong throughout the entire story. Great read for those wanting an intense brain twist.
Sarah is Gideon's ex-wife with whom he had a daughter named Emily. Gideon got remarried to a woman named Charlotte who adored his daughter Emily to the point of obsession. Sarah was having psychological problems and was sent to a psychiatric hospital for three months. Gideon still cared about his ex-wife and took care of her to Charlottes chagrin. When Sarah was released from the hospital Gideon did everything he could to help Sarah and she was doing well until she started seeing and hearing things again. Who was doing this to her or was it just her imagination? Was Charlotte sabotaging her so she couldn't see her daughter Emily and eventually have to be sent back to the hospital? This riveting thriller will have you trying to guess what is happening to Sarah and why. The ending was intense and satisfying. A great thriller to add to your list.
The Other Wife by Nicole Trope is another page-turner from this never to be missed author. From the very start I was captivated, and only became more and more invested in the characters as the narrative progressed.
Told from their own alternating viewpoints, we meet Sarah, Gideon, and Charlotte. Sarah and Gideon had once been a cohesive family unit with their beautiful daughter Emily, until Sarah's mental health begins to spiral and Gideon leaves, eventually marrying Charlotte. A tug of war ensues as Gideon's loyalties are divided between the two women, Sarah struggles to keep herself in check despite being repeatedly pushed to the brink, and Charlotte seethes with jealousy that Gideon seems to be so emotionally invested in his former wife. An emotionally fraught battle is waged between the three, and at the centre of it all is an innocent child who might be at the greatest risk of all.
I adore the writing of Nicole Trope, and this latest had me once again glued to the pages. Recommended. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.
Spine tingling psychological thriller
I loved HIS OTHER WIFE, Nicole Trope’s latest psychological thriller. Sarah and Gideon have gotten a divorce and Gideon now has full custody of their young daughter Emily. Because of her hallucinations and mental breakdown that she suffered after the miscarriage of their second child, Sarah has been committed to a stay in a mental institution. For the past year, Gideon has been seeing Charlotte, and their relationship is very serious, yet Gideon has set ground rules. He doesn’t want any more children. And Sarah will always be a part of their lives because she is Emily’s mother.
The way this story slowly unfolds was very well done. You don’t quite know who to trust, and the use of unreliable narrators was great. I am a big fan of Nicole Trope’s books for the way she always writes really twisted situations and characters that are very interesting and this book did not disappoint!
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley for review purposes.
What A Tangled Web We Weave…
What a tangled web we weave…perfectly demonstrated in this compelling domestic noir of relationships gone askew and where nothing is quite as it seems. With well crafted and credible characters and with a twisting plot, red herrings are scattered throughout. This is both immersive and emotionally fuelled and never as predictable as you may at first think.
From the first page I was hooked. I finished this book within 24 hours. His Other Wife was an excellent and unique, domestic thriller.
If you usually guess whats going on with domestic thrillers early in the book, I think this one will be a treat for you!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of His Other Wife. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this thriller and read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down. Lots of well thought out twists that worked beautifully!
Before I get into my review I would just like to thank NetGalley and the Publisher for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first time reading a book by Nicole Trope and it certainly won’t be my last. Finding new authors is always pretty exciting, but I think I can already say, after reading The Other Wife, I have found a new favourite.
The Other Wife had me gripped from the start.
Three main characters – Sarah, Gideon and Charlotte. I instantly liked both Sarah and Gideon. They were relatable and likeable. You could feel the love that was lost especially on Gideon’s behalf. Charlotte, however – well straight away I thought she was a bitch. I didn’t trust her, didn’t like. But, oh was she well written.
Early on in the book I thought I knew what was going on, how Sarah’s life had all took a turn for the worst. I was sure of it. All I needed was that little slip from the author to confirm I was right all along. I really thought I had it. There may have been TikToks and tweets detailing my elation.
BUT… then I carried on reading!!
WTF!! I couldn’t believe the incredible plot twist that awaited me just moments later. How intelligent it was for the author to use that cute, sweet side character – just like that!!
I have called many books un-put-downable!! But THIS book!! Is definitely JUST that!! It is hooking, thrilling, and the easiest 5 stars I have EVER given.
The Other Wife is published on 21st June and I highly recommend a pre-order!!
**ARC Review**
"The last thing you need to worry about is your ex-wife and your new wife not getting along."
Oh Gideon, what a web you have spun. The ex, Sarah is a hot mess. She's had a bad time of things and has suffered a breakdown. While away, her ex has remarried and the new wife is caring for her 5 year old daughter, Emily. What a mess! Her space in Emily’s life is under threat and she doesn’t like that at all. This little domestic thriller kept me turning the pages. This is a good, quick read! I definitely recommend it!
This one comes out June 21st.
