EXCERPT: She is fighting the drug, resisting it but at the same time letting go. She can't be awake any more. How many hours has it been? Not hours, days and days. She's not allowed to sleep or he will come for her child.

'Your fault,' he whispers outside her window at night. 'Your fault and you don't deserve her. Your fault and I will take everything.'

ABOUT 'HIS OTHER WIFE': She has my husband. She has my child. She has my life.

I never thought I would end up here. Alone, in a cold one-bedroom apartment, only seeing my precious daughter once a week.

Another woman is living the life that was once mine. I wish I was still married to my ex-husband, the love of my life. I dream of tucking my five-year-old child into her ballerina bed sheets every night. I miss living in a beautiful house, the perfect family home, with a winding staircase and a sprawling garden.

I’d do anything to be with my family again. To start over and prove to them that I’ve changed, that I won’t lose control like before.

But when I get my second chance, the vicious messages come. The noises at night. The feeling of being watched. It’s happening all over again. I know I’m not going mad, but no one will believe me. I don’t know if I even believe myself.

All I wanted was my life back. But now my life is under threat – and my darling little girl is in danger…

MY THOUGHTS: What is it at the moment with authors and ridiculously OTT endings? This is the second book in a row that I have read where an overly dramatic ending has killed most of the the pleasure I took in the read.

Other than the ending, His Other Wife has a lot going for it. Sarah has fallen victim to a grief induced psychosis and is admitted to a psychiatric clinic, surrendering the care of their daughter Emily to her ex-husband Gideon his new fiance, Charlotte. Gideon is a complex character. He is kind, and obviously still in love with Sarah, but is easily manipulated by Charlotte. She sees in Gideon the embodiment of everything she has ever wanted, plus she gets a readymade daughter in Emily whom she adores.

Sarah, when she is released, is grateful for Gideon's support and envisages a happy future where they co-parent in harmony. She wants to make friends with Charlotte and make everything easy for Emily. It's at this point that Trope ratchets up the tension. I was fearful for Sarah. Was she again falling prey to the psychosis, or was there something far more sinister going on? I thought I knew. And I was kind of right, but Trope had a few surprises in store for me, and there was so much more to the situation than I had imagined.

This was a great read, until it wasn't.

THE AUTHOR: Nicole Trope went to university to study Law but realised the error of her ways when she did very badly on her first law essay because-as her professor pointed out- ‘It’s not meant to be a story.’ She studied teaching instead and used her holidays to work on her writing career and complete a Masters’ degree in Children’s Literature. After the birth of her first child she stayed home full time to write and raise children, renovate houses and build a business with her husband.
The idea for her first published novel, The Boy under the Table, was so scary that it took a year for her to find the courage to write the emotional story.
She lives in Sydney with her husband and three children.

This was such an exciting, page-turning book! I have already recommended His Other Wife to all my friends, this is great Netflix material, I hope someone picks up the rights because... WOW WOW WOW!!!

Gideon is a successful attorney and married to Sarah. They have a daughter, Emily, 5, and Sarah recently miscarried their baby boy. Her grief from this has totally overwhelmed her to the point she cannot sleep and is hearing what she calls the Whispering Man. She told Gideon she wants a divorce and Sarah was finally placed in a hospital for a time.

Gideon started seeing Charlotte, a sophisticated business woman who at age 40 has never had children. She is taken with Emily and wants nothing more than to be her mother. She cares for her deeply.

When Sarah is released from the hospital, she has her own apartment and Gideon lets her have Emily overnight here and there. Sarah has missed her daughter so much and wants to spend more time with her. But she is still shaky in her life and sees a therapist. She just wants to sleep and hopes not to hear the Whispering Man.

When Gideon marries Charlotte, she is not happy with the time Gideon spends with Sarah and becomes enraged about it. Gideon still cares for Sarah and is hoping she can get better. But, Charlotte wants both Gideon and Emily with her all the time. Will they find a way to be able to share this little girl?

This book builds with some compelling characters. At first I thought that Sarah truly belonged in a hospital long term, but things began to happen to make me realize that was not the case. But the real problem here is a surprise and gave me an “Ah-Ha” moment. This is a well-written and at times scary book that I think will keep readers hooked to the very last page. Enjoy!!

Thank you Bookouture, Nicole Trope and Netgalley for the ARC of this book

This was my first Nicole Trope book and I've heard so many raving reviews from her other books and now I know they are so true

I was hooked from the first page right until the end. It was full of suspense and I was on the edge of my seat needing to read and find out what was going on!

The ending was just perfect and after such a big build was the right amount of jaw dropping and piecing the puzzle pieces together twist.

Loved it!

As readers begin His Other Wife by Nicole Trope they think about and feel the story. Based on the common issues of divorce and child custody, this deeply emotional story also deals with mental illness and betrayal.

Synopsis:
Sarah and Gideon have divorced and amicably share custody of their young daughter Emily. Gideon now has a second wife named Charlotte but remains committed to his support of Sarah's role as Emily's mother. After experiencing several traumatic events Sarah develops psychosis. She receives three months of treatment at an inpatient facility and makes incredible progress. Sarah feels ready to resume visits with her beloved daughter, but Charlotte has fully embraced the role of stepmother and does not believe Sarah will provide top-notch care for Emily. Charlotte does not want Sarah back in their lives.

His Other Wife by Nicole Trope is difficult to put down once you begin reading it. Family conflict involving children rips my heart out. There are books that you read one day and then forget the next, but I'll remember His Other Wife for a long time. (4.25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫)

An ex-wife, and mother sees her daughter being part of a happy family with her father and step mother. This isn't where she wanted to be but after so much loss she had to get her life back in order.

Follow along as two women fight for what they love and want.

But what about the husband, what does he want? Does he know?

And who else is really involved in their story.

Suspenseful up until the end!

I couldn't put this one down! Both mothers perspectives of a blended family are excellent.

This is the first book I have read by this author, I am totally hooked and I have since bought her back catalogue. A brilliant book, it's been a long time since a book gripped me this way. Full of suspense, gripping. Definitely recommended my favourite read of the year.

Yet again Nicole Trope has written another excellent domestic thriller. As soon as I’d finished reading the prologue I just knew that I was going to be completely absorbed in this read. Well I certainly wasn’t wrong there.I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to try and work out what was actually going on and who was behind it all . As I neared the end of every chapter I just had to keep on reading This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I honestly can’t recommend them highly enough.

This book will keep you guessing until the very end. Two families, one a new wife, her husband, and his daughter. The second family is his ex wife has mental issues and cannot be trusted with her daughter. This quick read has me questioning everything I read, wondering what was real. Excellent book!!!!

Nicole Trope's His Other Wife promised twists and turns, pulse pounding, and page turning excitement...and it delivered! While sick in bed the first 19% took a little while to get through, and then as soon as I was feeling somewhat human again I could not stop turning the pages until the shocking conclusion!

His Other Wife takes place approximately two years after Sarah and Gideons marriage ends, after the loss of their unborn baby, Sarah's mother, and her father within a six month period. Gideon has moved on with Charlotte with their wedding just around the corner when Sarah suffers on insomnia induced mental breakdown resulting in an inpatient treatment program. Sarah's treatment program ends and she takes her place back in her and Gideon's daughter Emily's life as they all navigate the new co-parenting routines. With all involved wanting what is best for Emily, what can go wrong?

This was my first read from Nicole Trope, but it will definitely not be the last!

Sarah is having a psychological breakdown. Her insomnia and depression have turned into hallucinations. After a stay at a mental health facility, she’s ready to get home to her daughter. But her ex-husband’s new wife has easily slipped into the role of mother and isn’t ready to relinquish it just yet. A very gripping and suspenseful story!

The premise was good. A man, an ex wife, a new wife and a battle over a child which turns bad. The first part of the book was good as the scene was set and each participant had their point of view expressed.

Sadly there was far too much introspection and navel gazing and the story became predictable and repetitive. All the adult characters were unpleasant and weak and there were moments when I just wanted it to be over.

The ending was actually unexpected and tense but it was also rather over the top and did not leave me feeling satisfied with the book. A shame but I can only give it three stars.

This domestic suspense story has a tense beginning with five year old Emily ringing her Daddy in the middle of the night to come and rescue her and her mother. The writing is good and the story unfolds from the point of view of Sarah, the ex-wife, Gideon and Charlotte, the new wife. The pace is good and my sympathies are with Sarah. Charlotte is suspect from the start - not a likeable character, who is probably closer to her mother than she should be.
Definitely a page turner but it is brought to an abrupt end and I felt cheated, hence the 3 stars!

I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining read. Nicole Trope stirs our empathy for each of the characters as the story unfolds at a near-perfect pace, and then ramps up the tension with unexpected twists and turns until its satisfying conclusion. Since His Other Wife is a thriller, of course character likeability and good intentions are fleeting and interchangeable, and when that happens, we're swept into the heart of this compelling story. I was fully engaged until the last page. This was my first book by Nicole Trope, and I look forward to reading more of her work. Don't miss this one!

I received this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was so engrossed in this book I just couldn’t stop reading it , I read page after page as I wanted to find out what was happening and who was the real villain!.

Gideon & Sarah are obviously still in love with each other but tragic circumstances have made them be apart and now Gideon has a new wife called Charlotte who seems perfect in every way or is she a little too perfect?.

When Sarah comes home and wants to make amends and be a mum again to her and Gideon’s daughter Emily will Charlotte let her or not? Because while Sarah has been away Charlotte has took it upon herself to be the perfect mum and nothing can come between her and Emily and her seemingly perfect life.

You’ll be engrossed in this thriller and will never see what’s coming, what a twist!.

His Other Wife by Nicole Trope

Gideon is now married to Charlotte but used to be married to Sarah, Sarah and Gideon have a five-year-old daughter, Emily. Gideon never stopped loving Sarah and never wanted to divorce her in the first place.

Sarah went into a deep depression and has not been herself after she lost her second child, Adam, when she was twenty-five weeks pregnant and soon after her parents passed away. She told her then husband Gideon she wanted to divorce him as nothing but bad luck surrounds her. Emily is all Sarah has left and she will do anything to protect her. Sarah stops sleeping as she believes that she must keep a constant watch over Emily. Soon Sarah starts hearing strange noises and feels like she is going mad.

Charlotte is now married to Gideon and would love to have a child of her own, but Gideon says he does not want more children, so Charlotte starts to love Emily like her own, but she must share Emily with her mum, Sarah and Charlotte does not like to share.

This book is written from three points of view; Gideon, Sarah and Charlotte.

I have read many books by Nicole Trope and have enjoyed each one of her books immensely.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
