What a wild ride. Such a creative story concept and holy cow twists and turns galore. This story marches along at a frantic pace with new jaw dropping surprises at every turn. I could not put this down it gripped me from page 1. I can’t even imagine the horror. Great character and an insanely sadistic plot… and that ending … my heart was pounding and my jaw was hanging on the floor.
I absolutely adore Samantha Hayes, she’s definitely on the favourites from Bookouture list. This is another gem which has had my blood boiling as I’ve read this one.
This has been a book that has been completely unputdownable and unpredictable. I have had no clue where this was going and I loved the journey through the pages.
I have liked Leah, whilst some actions have made me groan, I found she was a likeable and realistic character. However, Craig’s the complete opposite… I have literally wanted to punch him in the face.
This is a great read from Hayes. I have loved this book from beginning to end. Hayes had made my blood boil and my heart race. I’ve read all of the books by this author and this is quite possibly a favourite.
This is a book filled with twists and turns. Its a superb read filled with drama and antics. I devoured this in just one sitting. I absolutely recommend this book.
It’s a gem and a definite for the TBR.
I enjoyed this book. I can not wait for more by this author! Thanks to publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this book!
not even the writing, not even trying to connect with the story so badly saved this book for me. it could've been so much better, although I appreciate the effort.
An original plot, fast pace and juicy twists made this one of the best thrillers I’ve read so far this summer. I had such frustration on behalf of Leah being subjected again and again to her ex’s torments and abuse and couldn’t wait to see how/if she could finally free herself. And that one big reveal will have your head spinning for days after you’ve finished reading!
I recently read another book with the same title - The Ex Husband - and I have to say this one pipped the other at the post. It starts off with a bit of a grisly prologue but what unfolds is a twisty, gaslight-y, will have you questioning yourself thriller.
Main character Leah has had a recent, ugly, divorce from her a suite ex Craig. She moves in to her own fixer-upper which just so happens to be attached to a huge house, which also has new residents.
I’ve been reading quite a few thrillers lately and this one for me felt quite fast paced, definitely left me thinking why is no one believing this girl?! And hating her ex-husband Craig. The prologue lingers in your mind right until we see it play out in the main body and was definitely not what I thought was going to happen. My one fault to pick would be the story line with Leah’s mother - I felt that was one thing too far.
another great tense twisty thriller from Samantha, enjoyed many of her other books and I don't think she can write a bad tense thriller, enjoyed it and kept me gripped until. the very end. look forward to the next book she writes as I try to complete her collection
Firstly I’d like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book before it was published.
This was an unputdownable read. I finished it in around 2 days. If you love books which completely take over your life until you’ve finished reading, look no further.
I absolutely loved the main character. I truly felt for Leah and all she went through. Conversely, I despised Craig. So many times I wanted to stop reading because I couldn’t bear to read what he made Leah go through but this just shows how well Samantha Hayes portrayed his character.
After what felt like a massive breath-hold, the ending was happy. I was surprised by the plot twists. There were many smaller ones scattered throughout the story which made the book all the more interesting. I would definitely recommend this book!
I quite enjoyed this book, but I do feel like some of the twists and turns were unnecessary and didn't add much to the main storyline. I'd class this as a good poolside read, easy to read and relax with,
Not my favourite book by this author.
What would you do if your abusive ex-husband moved in next door. Is it a coincidence or something more sinister? Can you rely on your Mother for help when things start going bad? This was a thrilling book with many twists and turns.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for access to this ARC.
For the most part, this didn't feel like a thriller for me which weighed greatly on my rating. It felt more like a general/women's fiction and some aspects seemed unrealistic. I felt that the start of this one was slow to set off which impacted the overall pacing.
I enjoyed the short chapters and how easy it was to read. I was kept hooked which was enough for me..
Possibly a good read for those just testing the domestic thriller genre.
This one is a pretty easy read and has some entertaining parts but I never really got into it. I didn't like the characters much, and there was too many unnecessary parts of the story. It's not a bad book, but it wasn't a good fit for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I had never read anything by Samantha Hayes but plan to look for more of her titles. Let me say that unfortunately I took a bit to read this book and then when I was 75% done it expired and I could not download again. So weird as I still have many older books on my "shelf" that have been published already and those I could download again if I liked. But I digress. Anyhow, I was so into the book I had to finish it so I had to purchase from Amazon. Anyhow, the book was really good once it got started. The main character Leah has been through so much and continues to suffer from her ex-husbands acts when he moves next door to her and her children. He gaslights her in so many ways and truly makes her life miserable. There are many twists and lets just say things and people are not always what and who you think they are. Great ending and a real ride. Definitely recommend.
Leah thought she was safe from her ex-husband. New house for her and her two kids and she only had to handle her ex when he showed up to see their kids. IF he showed up.
That is until he moved in to the house directly next door.
Now Craig is way too close for comfort and events begin happening one by one that let readers know Leah is no longer safe.
A solid read with some fun twists, and while the ending was expected, I still appreciated the writing style and story from start to finish! I can definitely see this as a beach read!
Thank you NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review!
I have read a few of this author's books, and some have been fantastic, others, a bit meh. "The Ex-Husband" started out as a 4+ star read, but fell apart a bit at the end for me. Sometimes when a story starts out with a far-reaching premise (in this case, two exes purchasing property next door to each other), a reader is pleasantly surprised when it all comes together in the end in a believable way. This was not the case here, unfortunately. We have clear good guys and bad guys, and two vulnerable children in the mix, and a half-hearted look at domestic violence. But it did not come together in the end. I finished this book only a couple of weeks ago, and I can barely remember the ending; it did not leave an impact. 3/5 stars
I enjoyed this book. It had good pacing and kept me enthralled from beginning to end. My only complaint is that there were times which I became frustrated with the main character. Her behavior seemed so counterproductive and her reasoning hard to follow. However, it did have a satisfying ending and was an entertaining read.
A claustrophobic drama
told in an excellent style and pace
I really loved this book
The heroine is very believable and powerful
Leah's doing her best to be a single mom, and when she meets the neighbor lady, she thinks she may have found an ally. To her shock, the neighbor lady's partner is Leah's abusive ex — and he's not done with her yet! But that's not the half of it…
Drama, gaslighting, secrets, and the consequences of actions come to the surface in this slow burn domestic thriller. Sounds like a recipe for shock, but for me, it was meh.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I received an ARC of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley in exchange for my honest feedback. I found this to be a real page-turner and I was eager to find out what would happen. The first twist (fairly early on) I did not see coming, though I think maybe I was supposed to via some purposely sneaky descriptions? And later twists I only really suspected on one. I definitely wanted to shake Leah several times (allowing the children to be with Craig). Craig was so terrible he was almost not believable. Overall an enjoyable domestic drama.
The story starts optimistically, with Leah closed on her new house, ready to start fresh with her kids after a nasty divorce. All is going well until her ex-husband and new wife move next door. He pulls out all the stops to make her life miserable - this book is filled with DRAMA and a rough time for Leah.
As if the domestic drama wasn't enough, a body is found in a bonfire on Leah's property. Is it another crazy plot from her ex, or has she been pushed to the limit? Definitely a page-turning psychological thriller - read in one day!
