This is such a well put together book, the illustrations are so pretty. If you love magic and fantasy then you need to pick this up. She gives such interesting descriptions and backgrounds to these creatures. Definitely need to add this to my home library.
What a beautiful book. I love these illustrations. I had a lot of fun reading this and highly recommend, you check it out.
Hear ye, hear ye, all ye lovers of everything whimsical and weird! The Wonderful World of Eva was a quick read that I would simply describe as something out of an Alice in Wonderland-induced dream. The illustrations and the creature lore that make up Eva's world was fascinating to read about and made me engrossed from start to finish! I like the semi-watercolor treatment of the pages and it made me feel like I was reading a field guide of sorts from the layout as well.
The Wonderful World of Eva introduces us to creatures of Eva's childhood, and the illustrations are gorgeous. But this was more of an encyclopedic approach (I was expecting a short story).
Just lovely! A sort of field guide to magical creatures based on childhood treasures collected by the author/illustrator, very imaginative and fun! If you loved Gnomes by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet and Faeries by Brian Froud and Alan Lee, you'll love this book too. The lore is interesting, I was introduced to creatures I hadn't come across before, and the art is just gorgeous!

This book is interesting and absolutely stunning! The creatures featured are fascinating, cute, sometimes terrifying and the illustrations are gorgeous. The cover initially caught my attention but the actual book content is unique, quite enjoyable and captured my attention fully. It's a book I'll be purchasing for my collection!
I loved the illustrations in this book.
It felt magical and a little bit like “fantastic beasts and where to find them” just with even more beautiful art and fascinating creatures.
Sadly the document that was sent to the kindle was kinda separated in the middle so it was hard to read or enjoy the art fully.
Certainly not the kind of book I expected from Clavis, this is pitched older – although of quite indeterminate market. It's one of those fantasy bestiaries, where we see paintings of the critters – birds that roll to other realms and pin all their theft of shiny things on our magpies and crows, harpies, girls'-hair-snatching things – oh, and One-Eared Larry – and get to learn all about them, making this a fantasy fiction book with no narrative. I do find this kind of thing rather inconsequential – if you can come up with these things, try a story to go with, at least – but this isn't too bad a one. Not all the fonts are terribly readable, and with this chunk being how our author first came aware of the entities – the closest this gets to having stories – and that chunk being a field guide to them all and that bit being an annotated portrait it can get very repetitive. Still, it has quality if you like this thing, and flashes here and there (especially with the sequel story to St George's dragon, and the explanation given to houseplant owners) that show what could well have been. I felt like giving this "a strong three stars", but even that rating is a fantasy.

This book takes me back to the magic of my
childhood storytelling with my grandmother. The
photos are beautiful! This would be the perfect
book to keep on your coffee table so everyone
you know sees it and shares the magic. The
author gives you a glimpse into her whimsical
childhood and is so thoughtfully written that you
feel like you are experiencing it with her. I
cannot recommend this book enough !
4.5 stars rounded up.
A beautiful graphic novel whose art leaps off the page at you with its cuteness and charm, and a story that will enchant old and young alike, but especially the latter. The concept of meeting Creatures through Eva's eyes is so imaginative, too. In a diary format, Eva and her family introduce us to each Creature they encounter, and tell us who or what they are, what their habits are, their entire summed up background, as if they were being catalogued. Eva's mind is such a deep well of pure imagination.
The artwork reminds a bit of one of my favourites, Kerascoët, in the palette and colourfulness, plus cuteness, through the drawing style is different. It's the most outstanding selling point in this short picture book, and worth buying this for yourself and/or your little ones. They'll spend hours gazing at the beautiful illustrations and discussing the Creatures!
I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Wonderful World of Eva by Eva Toorenent is a bewitching book. The artwork is ethereal and the creatures are creative. I love the descriptions of each being and the history behind their traits and abilities. The artist's style brings to mind the dark vibes of Tim Burton or Salvador Dali. I am pleased to add this story to my collection of illustrated fairy and folk tales!
I loved this book so much! It was dark and beautiful, The creatures were so unique and incredibly well drawn, I loved the art style. The details were exciting to read and made you want to keep going and to keep learning more. The art is so pretty to look at, I can only imagine how beautiful it is in print. If you love Brian Froud or the book Good Faeries / Bad Faeries, you will love this book without a doubt and be introduced to a whole unique and wonderous world to learn about. I can’t get over how creative the lore was behind the characters and I hope that one day there will be a Volume 2!
Thank you Netgalley for an e-copy of this book for an honest review!
This book is completely adorable and eerie. I really adored reading about all these little magical creature and seing the georgous illustrations. It really has a spiderwick vibe but it's still completely different. You should definetly pick this one up if you love fairytale and magical creature with mystical writting!
Holy wow. The artwork in this book is absolutely stunning. I'm going to have to get this in hardcopy when it gets released. My daughter is going to love this. She loves learning about creepy creatures and this will be right up her alley 🥰
What beautiful illustrations!
A beautiful book, with a very beautiful story. Very Wonderland style. You find strange species of special origins that are complemented by these beautiful illustrations, they transport you to a unique and fantastic world that you would like to exist.
A fantastical field guide to whimsy and wonder.
This is a unique find. The author was inspired by beloved childhood treasures to create a bevy of otherworldly creatures. This book acts as a field guide for these creatures and her experiences with them. The descriptions have a delightfully candid and childlike quality to them which only enhances the experience of discovering her creations. The art is absolutely beautiful and the juxtaposition of the ‘artifacts’ on the page provide a full picture of the origin of these delightfully crafted accounts. This would be a great addition to any fantasy collection.
What a pleasant surprise! This was a beautifully crafted book with magical illustrations and cute descriptions of all the creatures! From the silly creatures to the more spooky ones, all were uniquely captivating and lovely. I wished I had little plushies of a few! Highly recommend this for everyone enthusiastic about magical creatures!
The most beautiful illustrations! So many details and fairy tale creatures.
Unfortunately, in the digital version that I was sent, I couldn't read the text, but the artwork is magical! All ages will enjoy this beauty!
The four stars are not for the book itself, but for the file quality I have. I am sure the hardcopy version will be perfect.
