I’ve read alot of Sandra Brown novels. She’s one of my favorite authors. This was not her best book, though. There’s really not alot of story here, and what there is is not very entertaining. Zach Bridger is an ex NFL player whose ex-wife, Rebecca, is in a vegetative state. The man, Eban Clarke, who made her that way has just been released from prison. Kate is the states attorney who could put Eban back in prison-as soon as Rebecca dies. Only problem-Zach has the power of attorney to keep Rebecca alive and he can’t pull the plug.

So the story is part romance, part thriller (I guess?) It’s just not the best story ever told by Ms. Brown.

It feels like a sin to rate a Sandra Brown book this low.

Sadly, Overkill is getting a 2.5 star (rounded up to 3) rating from me.

Zach and Kate - I just didn't feel anything from them. One second she's invading his space trying to understand what could happen. Then the next they were kissing and moving forward. I felt like there wasn't any build up we]\\ith their relationship.

Eban - So this name really tickled my brain and I'm not sure it was a good way. I did end up doing the audio so I thought his name was Even. I didn't know the spelling until I went to review. BUT one good thing about him was he was a good BAD guy.

I will say I kept waiting for something. I don't know what, but it just felt like nothing really happened until about 80% of the way in.

**On Sandra Brown's website under "Completed booklist" if you click on the book there is a note from SB under the description. It is cool to read her thoughts on the characters and how the idea of the book came to her. **

A complimentary e-copy was provided by Grand Central Publishing via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable read. Zach is facing a really tough decision about his ex wife after she’s attacked. The guy that attacks her is let out of prison early and now he’s out to keep Zach and Kate from putting him back in jail. Only Zach would have to decide what happens to his ex Rebecca.

4 Stars!

Sandra Brown is one of my all time fave go-to authors. Her books are the perfect balance of suspense and romance. This book had me gripped from the beginning. Edgy and tense, at times - elements that I like to read about in a SB book and which I felt were lacking in her last couple of books.

I immediately liked the characters in this story. I thought that Zach and Kate made a great pair and I really liked watching them get to know each other over the course of this story. I thought that their relationship felt really authentic and the chemistry between them was very well done. I thought that the secondary characters were also very well done and I even liked getting to see things from the villain’s point of view.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I found this to be a very entertaining and exciting story that left me wondering what I would do if I were in the character’s situation. I hope to read more of this talented author’s work very soon.

Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity to read this book. To be honest, I was never able to finish it. Sandra Brown is an amazing author and I have truly loved her other books. I just couldn’t get into the entire story line and didn’t feel any connection to the main character Zach to be able to continue reading.

This was my first book by Brown and I really enjoyed it. I thought the character developed was great. I liked that she gave us enough along the way that it kept me interested in the story line but also wanting to know more. I had a hard time putting this book down because of that. I really liked Zack character and enjoyed following his relationship with Kate there relationship felt super genuine. Overall would highly recommend this one.

➠ 💭 I went into this book completely blind and I’m glad I did. It was interesting, thought provoking, and at times, a tad steamy!

Brief Synopsis: Zach Bridger is a former Super Bowl MVP quarterback whose life is turned upside down when his ex-wife, who is quite the partier, is left in a vegetative state after an orgy went wrong. She left him as the power of attorney even after their divorce and it is up to him to make the decision to pull her off life support. In comes, Kate Lennon, four years later after Eban Clarke, the individual who caused this to Zach Bridger’s ex wife. Eban Clarke is a spoiled sociopath who has never had to deal with any real consequences. He is truly unlikable and has no remorse for anything he has caused. Kate has some unsettled things to resolve.

I was rooting for Zach & Kate the entire time. The book was done really well. Although there were some parts I was iffy on (it was a little long winded), overall, it was a great read, especially the ending. It was wrapped up in a box with a bow on top. Well done! Although this was my first Sandra Brown book, this won’t be the last book I read by her.

During this book, the author addresses issues concerning conflict of interest when two individuals become romantically involved, end of life planning, the judicial system, the decision between what a family wants versus what the medical POA desires, & end of life planning.

An invigorating story right from the start! Murder, mayhem and romance, what more could you want in a story and Sandra Brown writes the best. I could not put this book down after the first page. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A forever fan of Sandra Brown with shelves of her 1980s and 1990s novels gracing my personal library shelves, it saddens me to report that her mystery-suspense fiction, “Overkill,” is not one of my favorites because of it’s lack of deep characterization and plot motivation.

TheBookMavenJoy graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Sandra Brown. and Grand Central Publishing for this Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) for review.

I absolutely love Sandra Brown's writing and Overkill is a great example of why. The characters are well developed and once I started reading Zach and Kate's story I didn't put it down until the final page. I definitely recommend this book and this author to everyone.

4.5/5
Sandra Brown never disappoints.
I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did. Zach and Kate make a great team. Zach’s ex- FIL is a piece of work. The twist at the end was great. It definitely gets you thinking. It has some more serious part. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.

I was blown away by Overkill, a phenomenal and masterfully written book that had me captivated from start to finish. Sandra Brown weaves a compelling tale of romance and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat.

The protagonist, faced with difficult choices that could impact someone's life and livelihood, is portrayed with depth and complexity. The female lead, with her intriguing motivations, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story. I found myself completely engrossed in their journey.

The pacing of the book is relentless, with non-stop action and thrilling moments that had me eagerly turning the pages. Sandra Brown's skillful storytelling shines through, creating a cast of characters that are both admirable and despicable. The shocking twists and turns took me by surprise, leaving me emotionally invested in the outcome.

Overkill is the epitome of romantic suspense done right. It had me hooked from the beginning, and I didn't want it to end. The blend of romance and suspense is perfectly balanced, resulting in a book that delivers both heart-pounding thrills and a satisfying love story.

I wholeheartedly recommend Overkill to anyone seeking an enthralling and sleep-depriving read. Sandra Brown's storytelling prowess is on full display in this book, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.

I found this book to be really odd. Some of the terminology and plot points reminded me a lot of Sandra Brown's earlier novels. It felt vaguely old-fashioned - almost as if she had written it in the 90's and its just now being published. And the plot twist at the end was really just disappointing to me, I didn't think it really added any wow factor and overall just made me very sad for the suffering that Zach's ex-wife Rebecca endured for years. Overall it was still an interesting story line but I didn't love the book. The romance part of the plot also just felt so out of place. There was zero chemistry between the characters and any time the romance parts of the story line came up it felt so awkward and weird. If you like a good mystery / thriller then this would be an ok read but if you're looking for romantic suspense I would skip this one.

Another winner by one of my favorite authors, Sandra Brown. I couldn't put it down. It has lots of suspense, great characters, romance, and a thought provoking story line. I'm looking forward to reading her next book. Highly recommended!

I love a Sandra Brown read! This story wasn’t my favorite of hers, but it was still entertaining and intriguing. By no means an easy or light read, and the content got a bit graphic at times for my taste. I skipped over quite a few descriptive paragraphs that I didn’t care to read. This author is skilled in weaving a story that ties everything together and offers closure at the end. I would recommend this to fans of her work, but if she was a new author to you, this isn’t where I would start.

Thank you to the publisher for my gifted copy.

This novel by Sandra Brown takes emotion to the brink to get justice. A former football star learns his ex-wife was attacked and is on life support. Even though they were were divorced, she still had him as on her medical power of attorney. He can’t make the choice and turns over the decision to her family. The suspense and emotions will keep you up until you finish the book! I highly recommend the book and the author.
