I will leave a review on Amazon and B&N on Aug 16.

Wow this was an amazing read, I loved Zack and the storyline was original to say the very least. The book had lots of different twists and turns. Several of the characters in the book had no redeeming qualities. I most definitely would recommend this book to others.

I received and ARC from NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing, I am under no obligation to leave a favorable review the opinion expressed here is my own.

If you are feeling the doldrums, and don't feel like reading anything heavy, let Sandra Brown deliver you a story filled with murder, pandemonium, suspense, romance and sex. Yet, there is a deeper question here to ponder. If you were the sole person having to decide when to pull the plug or cease life saving measures, what would you do? What is your stance on religion? What if it was your only child? The legal issue is really at the core of this narrative with the outer coating consisting of the machinations of a former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Zach Bridger. He had a brief marriage 4 years ago with an out of control drug addled woman named Rebecca, who in a 3 way sex scene at a party and ended up on life support. Zach, much to his surprise, receives a phone call informing him that according to her will he has the medical power of attorney. An agonizing finding, all the more because he has a bitter relationship with his religious ex-father-in-law. Zach determines that the decision should be left to the father. The host of the depraved party, Eban is a flamboyant, slick, affluent and attractive sociopath who does get sentenced to prison but only stays short term due to bribes and favors. Enter Kate Lennon ,a cute petite steely state prosecutor who with reasons of her own, is determined to place him back in prison. If Rebecca were to die, Eban could be charged with murder. This is the point where Zach's role becomes crucial moving forward, and as the two spend more time together, a steamy love interest develops. The rest of the book focuses on this issue of life support and Eban's counter attack plan to save himself while disregarding any one else who gets in his way. The drama is sustained throughout the book making this a great choice for a one day all intensive read.

I received an ARC of, Overkill, by Sandra Brown. Prison sentences in America are not always as fair as they should be, you take a life, you should get life in prison. Unfortunately that is rarely the case, the accused in this book gets out in four years for his crime. This is a good story.

I've been reading Sandra Brown's books for years, many of the books more than once. I was thrilled to receive an ARC from Grand Central and NetGalley, thank you. Sandra Brown's characters are always so well written that you believe you 'know' them. When you are done reading, you'll miss them, at least for me. That was true in this book. This wasn't as much a mystery as a crime with just enough romance sprinkled in. The decision to pull the plug on his ex-wife's life support to convict the man who put her there was the base of this book. However there is a lot more going on. This was a quick read because I couldn't put it down.

Two elements keep this from being a typical Sandra Brown. The first is that “we’re not in Texas any more,” to paraphrase Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. This novel is set in Atlanta and New Orleans and the NC mountains. The second, which is becoming more and more prevalent in current day novels, is the unmasking of faith based parents to be hypocritical, downright cruel or even abusive in relationships, and dogmatically mindless in their thinking.

As a long time devotee of Sandra Brown’s novels, I was disappointed in the finale of this one, never expecting the basis of the plot to be one of revenge and self justification. That was not revealed until the end. This was definitely not her best.

I was thrilled to receive this new Sandra Brown as an ARC from Netgalley and the publisher, Grand Central Publishing, in exchange for an honest review.

Overkill is the latest story from Sandra Brown. Zach is a retired football player who is still popular with fans. Kate works in the District Attorney's office as a prosecutor. Kate wants Zach's co-operation in a case she's involved in. As the story progresses so does their relationship. Both Zach and Kate were interesting characters. I want to thank NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an early copy to review.

Zach Brider is a Super bowl MVP and all around infamous football player. Following his quick marriage to Rebecca, his career imploaded and he is seldom heard from. Rebecca, however, continued to date many famous men and became mixed up in a situation that caused her to be hospitalized and placed on life support. Zach is forced out of seclusion to make a call on her life support when he finds he has power of attorney. Ceding the power to her parents he hides away again and the man who was behind the assault was jailed.

4 years later, the attacker is let free and the district attorney's office is hoping that Zach can be persuaded to end Rebecca's feeding machine in order to allow them to prosecute the man for murder. The DA office sends Kate Lennon and she is a force to be reckoned with. The problem is, the attacker is wealthy and sociopathic and not willing to give up his freedom again. There's a lot of disbelief that needs to be suspended for this story to fit together, but I still loved it and recommend it to anyone seeking a light thriller. Bigger than life characters and big life questions keep your interest. Sandra Brown is an excellent writer, and if you like a big thriller, a good guy vs bad guy story, or just a fast paced and tense story, this book is for you! #GrandCentralPub #GrandCentralPublishing #SandraBrown #Overkill

Another solid effort from Sandra Brown. If you've read other of her novels in the past, you know what to expect: Solid suspense, steamy romance, well-written characters, and pretty good plot. This novel doesn't disappoint.

I also thought the cover was quite good.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a gripping, fascinating story I found difficult to put down. Zach is a former football star who now resides in the mountains of North Carolina. His ex-wife, Rebecca, has been on life support for four years. Zack has medical power of attorney, however, because of the wishes of her parents, he has continued to pay for her care, and leave her on life support.

Ebon Clarke, who put Rebecca in the state she’s in, has been incarcerated, however, is released from prison early. This is big news and Zach hears about it on a news flash on television.

Unexpectedly State Prosecutor, Kate Lennon shows up at his door, eager to send Ebon Clarke back to prison on a murder charge, however, for that to happen Zach must reverse his decision and his commitment to her parents, and take Rebecca off of life support which will result in her death.

This is a riveting, intriguing story that has many unexpected circumstances, as well as a shocking revelation that could change everything. Unexpected romance is woven into this fascinating story as well.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions and comments are my own.

Zach Bridger, former Super Bowl MVP, has the medical power of attorney over his toxic, comatose and brain-dead ex-wife, Rebecca. It was apparently her last way to basically “screw” him long after their divorce, but Zach has always allowed her parents to valiantly keep her alive (at his expense). She was rendered into this fugue state by a questionable drug and alcohol fueled violent sexual encounter with equally toxic rich kid Eban Clarke, whose family bribed and blackmailed a judge to get their malevolent son a scandalously light sentence. Now four years later, Eban is out scot-free, although murder charges could put him away again if only Rebecca dies (double jeopardy be damned and conveniently skirted). “If” Rebecca dies. Kate Lennon is a special prosecutor who would like Zach (who just wants this all put in the past) to pull the plug on Rebecca in order to incarcerate Eban. Honestly, this is a terrible premise, fraught with a lot of questionable moral dilemmas and queasy consequences. No matter how terrible or wanton a person that Rebecca was, her father still loves her (her mother has now died) and Eban, even with his purchased miscarriage of justice, did go through the judicial system to legally obtain his ill-gotten freedom.

I admit I had reservations about Kate’s motivations. Why not just wait for Eban to inevitably mess up again? Or allow Rebecca to eventually die naturally and stop worrying about Evan’s timely comeuppance?

Normally, I might have stopped reading once I realized what Kate was up to. What did draw me to keep reading was the sheer evilness of Eban, who realizes what Kate is proposing to Zach and sets off on the obvious horrific path of deciding to eliminate Zach and Kate and other potential witnesses. And, of course, now experiencing the Evil Eban together, Zach and Kate draw closer personally.

Sandra Brown has legions of fans and knows how to consistently write romantic thrillers. It’s the author’s expertise in character building that makes this story palatable. The villain is truly awful; Kate and Zach come around to a relationship in a steady way. For diehard Sandra Brown fans, this will be a sure hit. My experience with her writings isn’t as extensive. I intend to read more of her novels, but this particular narrative only rated 3 stars from me.

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!

Literary Pet Peeve Checklist:
Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): NO Unrepentant party boy Eban has gray-green eyes.
Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): NO The only horticultural concerns were the developers trying to get Zach to give up his forested side of the mountain for condo developments.

This is Sandra Brown at her best! Likeable and believable characters with just enough description and twists and turns to keep the reader wanting more. I received an ARC from NetGalley, and the opinions expressed are my own.

OMG. Just when I thought I had already read "thee" best Sandra Brown novel, along comes Overkill.
Simply fabulously intriguing, winding story of Zach, a retired MVP QB and Kate, an assistant in the DA's office & how their lives intertwine as Zach is drawn into the investigation of his now comatose & on life support, ex wife & the man who supposedly put her in that state. Even Clark did some prison time for assault but should Rebecca, Zach's ex wife who went into a vegetative state after attending a drug infested party at the Clark's mansion 4 years ago, die, the would face murder charges. Kate is on a mission to make that a reality but first she must convince Zach, who still has medical power of attorney for Rebecca, to pull the plug and allow murder charges to be filed. Eban, meanwhile, will do anything he can to prevent that from happening.
Simply great story with terrific character development, fascinating surrounding stories and great description.
Sandra just kills the whole genre.
Again👌

Sandra Brown has been turning out dependably good romantic suspense for a really long time. She’s done it again with Overkill. The plot is good, the main characters are strong and likable, many of the other characters are nicely nuanced. If pushed to be critical, I’d say I didn’t really feel the romantic heat and that the bad guy is so bad that he is almost a caricature.. But all in all? A good read.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Overkill by Sandra Brown that I read and reviewed.
This is the first Sandra Brown book that I have read in awhile and she still has it. I really enjoyed this book even though you knew who the killer was and a lot of the plot as you are reading the book Brown does not disappoint the reader and throws in a few twist in the end so our mouths drop and we go dang we did not see that coming.
Overkill gets four out of five stars because is drags on in some parts otherwise it is a very good read.

Another fast-paced read from Sandra Brown.

Zach is an ex-professional football player and his ex-wife is Rebecca. Although divorced Rebecca never changed her power of attorney so when she is attacked and goes into a coma it is up to Zach to determine whether to pull the plug that is keeping her alive. Ultimately he turns the decision over to her parents, who rightfully should make this call.

Rebecca's attacker is found and imprisoned. Unfortunately he is released in a short time. It becomes up to a state prosecutor obsessed with putting him back in jail and Zach, who wants justice for Rebecca.
This duo doesn't agree on what should be done but, of course, an attraction develops.

The issue of who and when a person who has been in a come for years should be taken off of life saving equipment is a hard one to read - as it would be to live. This book is sensitive to the issue.
I really enjoyed reading it and it makes good summer reading.

Sandra Brown delivers again!!!!! I am a huge Brown fan, she has an amazing way of delivering characters with lots of depth and bringing in all the faucets of their struggles to the front. This book is like all her others in my mind, gets you hooked right away.

Zach is a former pro football player who is living his life with his past comes knocking. His ex wife, with whom he hasn't seen or heard from since the divorce has found herself in a predicament and gets attacked. She ends up on life support and who should be her medical power of attorney? Why yes Zach is, so now he is drawn in to the drama of her life and having to make the big decisions for her life. Eventually he releases the power to her parents, so he can walk away. I mean he hasn't been in her life for years why should he have to make the decisions. But it doesn't end there. The attacker gets released from jail due to some payoffs thanks to being from a wealthy family.

Enter Kate Lemmon who works for the attorney general, she is trying to find away to get Eban, the attacker, put back away and the only way to do that is to convince the private Zach to stop the life support so they can try for murder. The plot thickens and lines get crossed as the battle for justice for Rebecca begins and Kate and Zach heat up.

I have been reading Sandra Brown books for 18 years now, and have not found a bad one yet. The first one I ever read was The Alibi, and it hooked me and I have read every single one since then. She has a way to make you feel for the characters and draw you in the plot to where once you start her books you cannot put it down.

You can never go wrong with a Sandra Brown book. Always guaranteed a thriller with a side of steamy. I usually don’t even read the plot lines, I just read her books. In this book we follow a retired NFL quarterback, Zach, who had a very scandalous divorced with his wife. Their marriage was short and her party girl lifestyle kept her running with the rich and famous. Until one night she partied too hard with 3 men in an Atlanta mansion and ended up on life support… only problem is her now ex-husband is still listed as her power of attorney and must make the decisions with her on life support. Trigger warning for sexual assault (although I will say the actual telling of the assault was minimal, this focused more once after effects). The man spoiled brat rich kid, Eban Clarke, is released from prison early, but could there be a may to make him pay and send him back? In walks the hot shot lawyer from Georgia Attorney Generals Office, Kate, who’s eager to make the case to send Eban Clarke back to prison for long time. After 4 years on life support, will Zach end his ex-wife’s life to send Clarke back to prison… spark fly in more ways than one is the latest Sandra Brown release!

Former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Zach Bridger hasn’t seen his ex-wife, Rebecca Pratt, for some time—not since their volatile marriage imploded—so he’s shocked to receive a life-altering call about her. Rebecca has been placed on life support after a violent assault, and he—despite their divorce—has medical power-of-attorney. Zach is asked to make an impossible choice: keep her on life support or take her off of it. Buckling under the weight of the responsibility and the glare of public scrutiny, Zach ultimately walks away, letting Rebecca's parents have the final say.

Four years later, Rebecca's attacker, Eban—the scion of a wealthy family in Atlanta—gets an early release from prison. The ludicrous miscarriage of justice reeks of favoritism, and Kate Lennon, a brilliant state prosecutor, is determined to put him back behind bars. Rebecca’s parents have kept her alive all these years, but if her condition were to change—if she were to die—Eban could be retried on a new charge: murder.

It isn’t lost on Zach that in order for Eban to be charged with Rebecca’s murder, Zach must actually be the one to kill her. He rejects Kate’s legal standpoint but can’t resist their ill-timed attraction to each other. Eban, having realized the jeopardy he’s in, plots to make certain that neither Zach nor Kate lives to see the death of Rebecca—and the end of his freedom. - Goodreads

It has been some time since I last read a Sandra Brown book. She was one of the first adult novels I read as a teenager and her books Envy and Crush as still two of my favorite reads. I stopped reading her books because they were getting redundant for me. The premise was always the same the seemingly bad guy is caught up in a deadly situation with a good girl. I needed a break... that break ended up being a few years before I was approved for this book.

I enjoyed this read. It was not as intense as I hoped it would be. Overall it moved a bit slow. I thought the romance was interesting because I didn't necessarily feel the chemistry but it wasn't lust either. The two built feelings in those circumstances as best as they could and they were very adult about it; no drama at all. And I am not complaining about this. I like reading about adult relationships because these two, specifically, understood what they wanted and it made it clear.

Overall, if I never read a Sandra Brown book prior I would have rated this book higher. But given the fact that I read most of her books when they were released for 10 years, I can say that this was a good read but not the best.

At over 400 pages, this was a quick read with a mix a genres. There was a little bit of suspense and a lot more romance.

I'm never really a fan of mixing genres and prefer Brown's suspense writing over anything else.

The romance part of this book held a little too much cheese for me. At times, I felt like I was reading a novel with Fabio on the cover.

As with Jodi Picoult, I'll continue to read whatever Sandra Brown delivers, but this one was just ok for me.
