I received this Sandra Brown book as an ARC from Netgalley and it caught me from the beginning like so many of her books. Love when books do that. So we have Zach, a former quarterback who divorced Rebecca Pratt. She was then found at a party, unresponsive and put on life support. Zach held the papers that said he determines whether the plug is pulled or not. Meanwhile, Eban Clarke went to jail for holding the party where Rebecca was found.

And so 4 years later, Eban is released but everyone feels he should be back in jail - justice was not served. The book continues with the battle of should Zach pull the plug, what Rebecca's father feels and where does this leave Eban? Big decisions and yes, a surprise ending although some of it was predictable.....plus a little romance also. Great story. #fourstars #netgalley

🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars

Overkill is another excellent Sandra Brown romantic suspense. The story follows former super bowl MVP, Zach Bridger, who is haunted by the brutal attack of his ex-wife, Rebecca. Zach and his ex’s relationship had a bitter end and he is surprised when he is informed that he has medical power-of-attorney and must decide whether or not to keep her on life support. He leaves the decision with her parents until years later when he is approached by state prosecutor, Kate Lennon. She tells him that Rebecca’s attacker is getting an early release from prison due to his family’s wealth and status. Rebecca is determined to put the dangerous man back behind bars, but the only way is to charge him with murder..and that requires Rebecca to be taken off life support.

This was a very interesting storyline and I really enjoyed following Zach’s story through the years. The villain is chilling and the romance is very fun and steamy. This felt very old-school Sandra Brown and I loved every page. I am already ready for her next mystery.

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Brown delivers a tense story that keeps you wondering what will be next for ex-football player Zach and attorney Kate. Zach's ex-wife in on life support and her alleged abuser is released early from prison. The felon fears he will be sent back to prison for murder if the wife dies. Zach has medical power of attorney and faces the serious dilemma as to whether to keep his ex on support and never see the felon punished or to take her off life support. The action and story keep moving in this one. Zach and Kate are both threatened and must be on guard against the ex-con. An added attraction between Zach and Kate adds to the nuance of the story. Brown delivers.... Thanks to Net Galley for
the arc.

I've been a Sandra Brown fan for a long time and am always excited when a new book comes out. Even more exciting is getting an e-arc from netgalley and the publisher! thank you! This was in interesting story with a Super Bowl mvp quarterback having to make decisions regarding his ex-wifes healthcare. The storyline and twists kept me wanting to continue reading and see where the story would take me. I always recommend her books and do for this as well!!

When I saw that Sandra Brown had a new book coming out, I was happy about this. I request an ARC, and when I was approved I was really excited.

Then I started the book. I hate to say this - I really do. But I was bored. I started it, put it down and read something else. Then I tried starting it again. Finally about a third of the way through, I quit.

I couldn't connect to the characters.
I thought the concept was interesting,, but not well told
I didn't feel ANY romantic connection. with the characters.

Normally,, I have a policy of not rating a book I did not finish. It doesn't seem fair to me. However, I am making an exception in this case because (1) this is a well known author that can handle this - it's not a new author who would be devastated (2) I don't see any way this book could suddenly pick up and change and (3) I picked it up and tried reading it multiple times.

I do want to thank #netgalley for the opportunity - I am sorry it was wasted on me.

Zach Bridger is a former football star who is living a quiet life in his mountain retreat. He is shocked to learn that his ex wife Rebecca is on life support after an assault and that he still has the medical power of attorney for her and must decide to take her of life support or not. After her attacker is released early after four years Zach is approached by lawyer Kate Lennon who wants him to take Rebecca off of life support so her attacker could be charged with murder. Her attacker is from a wealthy family and intends to make sure that Zack or Kate have the chance to take Rebecca off of life support!

Another great book by Sandra Brown. This one will hit some sensitive topics including rape and life support.
However, it was a great love story between an NFL player and an attorney. Zach's has to make a tough decision when his ex-wife is put on life support. When the man who put her there gets out of prison, his decision gets even harder. When he has an unexpected guest he plans to turn her away like all of the others. But Kate is different....
Can she make him change his mind about where he wants to be in life? Will he actually have a real relationship? #NetGalley #SandraBrown #OverKill

I am a huge Sandra Brown fan and eagerly look forward to her new books every year. This one did not disappoint! The story was intriguing and thought-provoking. Zach and Kate stole my heart and I loved the descriptions of his home in the mountains. This novel reminded me of Brown's backlist novels that made me fall in love with her writing and characters. I plan to recommend this to all of my friends. Thank you Sandra Brown for always writing intriguing mysteries that stay with me forever.

I really enjoyed this well written page-turner by Sandra Brown. The world build around the main character who happens to be on life support is incredible in of itself. Of course, I gladly jumped into feet first. The characters are all vividly portrayed. Each individually and collectively with the storyline. There were so many feels. Drama, action, danger, suspense, guilt, remorse, consequence, end of life issues, loss, closure, chemistry and. finally love! Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. It pulled at my heartstrings for many reasons. I highly recommend it to fellow readers looking for a solid quality read. A 5 Star book. (I don't do spoilers because it takes away from the story but you can read the blurb)

A unique quandary...pull the plug on his ex wife to convict the person who caused her to go on life support? A likable exNFL character teams up with the prosecutor (and with all Sandra Brown there's a romance!). Liked the pace and was stunned by the twister at the end.

I really liked this one. The topics were a bit rough, but definitely made me think. Zach and Kate were great characters, and the settings were descriptive–North Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana. I could definitely picture the settings she describes. I saw where it was all going, but was satisfied with how it ended up. Looking forward to next year, Sandra!

In Overkill by Sandra Brown, due out in August, Rebecca Pratt is in a coma after a night of drinking, snorting, and rough sex. Her ex-husband Zach Bridger, a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback, still has medical power of attorney for her even though they were divorced. Following the wishes of her parents, he agrees to keep her on life support and distances himself from the situation by going into seclusion at his mountain home in North Carolina.

Now Eban Clarke, a wealthy Atlanta heir who choked Rebecca until she lost consciousness and became deprived of oxygen, has snagged an early release from prison. Georgia state prosecutor Kate Lennon is developing a plan to put Eban back in prison for a long time.

As one strategy to accomplish her intent, Kate reaches out to Zach to discuss keeping his ex-wife on life support and wait until a natural death occurs versus taking her off it immediately. The latter action would allow Kate to bring murder charges against Eban right now before he can escape to a country that has no extradition.

Thanks to his corrupt lawyer who tells Eban the consequences when Rebecca dies –either a natural death or removal from life support -- Eban forms deadly plans to avoid any further disruption of his playboy lifestyle that was brought to a halt with his arrest for assault. The fast-paced novel is a page-turner with a deadly conclusion.

Sandra Brown started writing in 1981 and has published more than 70 novels. Known for romantic suspense, she once tried her hand successfully with a book of historical fiction about the Great Depression, Rainwater (2009). A Texan writer, Brown has seen four of her books adapted for film.

My review will be posted on Goodreads starting June 20, 2022.

I would like to thank Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective review.

Rebecca is on life support after an assault. Her ex husband Zach is still her power of attorney to make medical decisions. Her attacker has already been released early because of his Fathers money and influence. Prosecuting attorney Kate Lennon wants Zach’s help in sending her attacker back to prison. This book was very well written with a compelling story. The story has suspense along with a romance. I usually like Sandra’s books, this one is no exception. It was a page turner for me. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This is a romantic suspense story, it is more like her older books which I loved so much. The characters are very likable and I found it hard to put this book down. This book also dealt with living wills and power of attorney and how important they are

Zach is a former quarterback and Super Bowl winner. He is vacationing when he gets the call that his ex wife ( Rebecca ) has been assaulted and in a coma. Per her directive, Zach is her guardian over medical issues. He had changed his but she hadn’t. Four years later, a lawyer shows up at Zach’s. The man who did this is being released. She wants Zach to unplug Rebecca so Eban can be charged with murder. Kate is ambitious and works for the Attorney General. She wants Rebecca to get the justice she deserves but it’s up to Zach. She travels up to see him and he refuses. Now she must talk him into it but Eban has received word and is going to make sure Zach can’t unplug her and get rid of Kate.

I haven’t read a Sandra Brown book in forever. Just as good as they have always been. Action. Sex. Suspense. Secrets. The only thing I didn’t care for was all the point of views and not enough from Kate. I highly recommend this story.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
I absolutely love Sandra Brown's books - she never fails to write a winner! I could not put this down.
Rebecca is on life support after a horrible assault. She has Zach as her power of attorney. Her father wants her left alive but what kind of life is that.
Eban, the man accused of the crime is released early. Now if Rebecca were to die he could be retried and sent back to prison
But can Zach take her off life support - her father would never allow that.
What will Eban do - he won't want to go back to prison - but no one will want him. abusing another woman?
