I have read many books by Sandra Brown and I've enjoyed them.
I was so happy when I got approved for the Hachette Audio version of Overkill. Lately, audiobooks are easier to do because of my commute to work. I will say that the narration by Kyf Brewer was spot on. Her performance had the right tone to keep me invested.
The book begins with a party and a woman deciding to go to a bedroom with three men. The next day, everyone is talking about her, Rebecca Pratt, and her ex-husband, famous pro football player Zach Bridger. But not because of what she did but because Rebecca ends up in the hospital brain dead and Zach is the one responsible to make the choice for her care as her power of attorney.
Fast forward four years and prosecutor Kate Lennon comes looking for Zach. The man responsible for hurting Rebecca is being released and it's once again up to Zach to do something about it.
Sandra Brown does great romantic suspense. You get invested with her characters and you root for the couple to end up together. Also, the evil ones are always very evil which makes it easy to hate them.
Although I liked both Kate and Zach, their romance fell a little flat. Don't get me wrong there was quite a bit of steam but I felt their characters could have been developed a bit more.
Overall, I liked it and will read her next book without thinking it twice.
Cliffhanger: No

have been reading Sandra Brown for countless years, and she seldom disappoints. The premise and storyline were interesting. The pacing was well done, and I loved the slow burn romance. Of course, some events around the climax were unrealistic, but it did not deter from my overall enjoyment. I cannot wait for Brown's next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for my advanced review copy.

Author Sandra Brown sets up a moral and ethical dilemma for the hero, resulting in a tense romantic thriller that does not disappoint. Recommended.

Overkill was my first Sandra Brown novel, but I'll be looking at her backlist. The premise of this story was interesting, when do you pull the plug for someone on life support? It mixed legal aspects, moral questions and of course family drama. While some of the characters were not likable it is a thought provoking book.
Thanks to NetGalley for my review copy of this book.

Reading the brief synopsis of this book sparked my interest and led me to requesting an advanced copy to review unfortunately I did not really enjoy this one. None of the characters were particularly likeable, the level of entitlement by everyone was overwhelming and the intimate scenes took away from the storyline for me. There was a minor twist towards the end that felt absolutely unnecessary and was such a 180 from a character that it felt very oddly placed. The ending of the book felt very predictable and the final scene on the last page was absolutely disgusting. To end with a physical climax by the lead character felt very inappropriate and was a turnoff. I would like to thank Sandra Brown, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for a chance to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read a Sandra Brown book in a long time, so I was looking forward to this one. Sadly, it fell short--a mundane mystery and lots of gratuitous sex.
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book.
The story was good but the language was not. I don't mind a little but you don't have to use "GD" to get your point across. It wasn't for me

I have loved Sandra Brown;s writing style for years and have read many of her books. That being said, this wasn’t one of my favorite because of the topic. The writing style was the same I would expect, making it a quick easy read.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book by Sandra Brown - this book was phenomenal,!! Not a dull moment from page one until the end! A fast read and nonstop suspense!! Thank you for the advanced copy!

While I know of Sandra Brown, I don't think I've ever actually read a novel by her. I did get some Nora Roberts vibes from this. It gets really mundane as it feels like nothing really happens for a lot of it, just the same back and forth over the same issue discussed again and again. The romance feels kinda cheesy and the sex scenes/words used felt very cringe-y at times to me. It's an okay read if you just want to go with it and don't want to focus that hard or have to figure anything out (so maybe good for the beach or airport, that kind of thing).
2.5 stars, rounded up because I liked the cover.
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

this is my third sandra brown book and it won’t be the last!!
I have to say, this one captured my attention way more than the other brown books I’ve read due to the mystery surrounding the murder and the famous celebrity concept muddling the waters.
it was so entertaining to flip through the pages and the plot moved so quickly! I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next so I just kept binging 😅😅😅
my only complaint (and this is a me thing) is that it was a single POV book. I think it would be so much more interesting if we heard from the minor characters (bing supremacy!!)
at this point, I’d read sandra’s grocery list 🥴
a huge thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

Sandra Brown and romantic suspense at its and her best!! You've got a former football (American) player involved, along with a district attorney so a legal aspect/setting. Twists and turns with some romance thrown in! Kept me hooked but wasn't one of my favorites from Ms Brown. Definitely fast paced and I read it in one day, as I usually do with her books!

Overkill is soooo good! Once again, Sandra Brown delivers! I have been a fan for years and she is very much still my favorite author. I was hooked from the first page. She is a master at working with multiple characters, making the transition between scenes effortless. As an author myself, I learn so much just reading her books. I just love how she peels back a story and continue removing layers and layers until a satisfying end. What a great read!

Another great read from Sandra Brown, one of my favorite authors. A book filled with suspense and romance, it kept me turning the pages late into the night. I highly recommend this title. Thank you for the chance to read the ARC.

I have been a huge Sandra Brown fan for many years and have read all of her books. OverKill was another fine masterpiece of hers. I really enjoyed this story. I loved the pacing from beginning to end, not to fast not too slow. I loved the chemistry of Zach and Kate right from the beginning. I liked that they were honest with each other and open with how having a relationship together could be detrimental to the case and cause problems. Throw in some suspense and a few story line surprises, and you have one well rounded story. Very good read, finished it in one day. I would highly recommend it.

If a novel has Sandra Brown's name on it, you know it is going to be good. OVERKILL is no exception. Filled with tragedy and suspense, the author takes us on quite a journey, searching for justice. But, what price is too high to pay, and who pays the price? With the twists and turns, this novel will keep you turning pages all the way through to the end. The perfect summer read! Highly recommend!

Sandra Brown books have been a go to for me for many years. She's a fabulous story teller and does an incredible job of keeping each story fresh and putting twists into each book to keep her readers guessing to the very end. This story is no different. Some touchy subjects in this one, drugs and partying, consequences from those events, secrets that are kept, life changing events. Very well done. I received an ARC through Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Sandra Brown’s Overkill has a lot of action, an interesting array of characters, and romance. She tackles timely topics including medical directives,, celebrity status, drugs and friendship. There is certainly enough for any reader to grab onto.

You may have read a story where family have to decide whether to keep a person on life support, but you have probably never read a story where the person making the decision is the ex-spouse, from whom there was a very public and nasty divorce. That is the situation in "Overkill", the latest novel by Sandra Brown. Zach Bridger's ex-wife Rebecca was a professional partier. When events at a party get out of hand, leaving her in a persistent vegetative state, Zach learns he is still her medical power of attorney, and therefore, it is up to him to decide whether she stays on life support. Zach Bridger is a Super Bowl MVP quarterback; his ex-wife had made herself a celebrity in her own right, often turning up on the red carpet or other highly public events; Eban Clarke, who was in the bedroom when Rebecca lost consciousness, is a rich local playboy; and Doug Pratt, Rebecca's father, is outraged that the decision is up to Zach, whom he had never liked and whom he blamed for Rebecca's lifestyle, and verbally lays into him at the hospital, a confrontation that is captured on multiple cell phones. In other words, this event is a perfect media feast. Zach decides to abide by the wishes of the Pratts and keep Rebecca alive.
However, the ramifications of the incident will lead to the end of Zach's football career and leave him in a rather sorry state. Four years later, he has managed to rebuild his life, albeit out of the public eye in a mountain home in western North Carolina. His biggest hassle is repeated entreaties from the company developing the other side of the mountain, which would very much like to buy his land, and which he has no interest in selling. When Kate Lennon shows up at his home, Zach thinks she is the latest attempt at persuasion, and rudely runs her off. However, when he looks at the paperwork she left behind, he realizes her visit was for an entirely different, and even more unpleasant, reason. Kate Lennon is a prosecutor with the Georgia Attorney General's Office and her focus is on Eban Clarke, who was sent to prison for his role in the incident that left Rebecca in a persistent vegetative state, but who is being released from prison after only two years due to good behavior. Eban Clarke got off too easy initially and his early release is especially grating. Eban cannot be re-tried for aggravated assault (double jeopardy), but because his actions placed Rebecca's life in danger, when she dies, Eban can be tried for murder (which does not mean the prosecution would be successful).
Kate wants Zach to agree to discontinue life support, letting Rebecca die, so that Eban can be charged with murder. This needs to happen soon before Eban can flee the country and escape future punishment entirely. The story alternates between Zach/Kate and Eban. Zach will visit the facility where Rebecca resides to learn more about her condition and long-term prognosis, will consult with a former coach and father figure, Bing, and even attempt to have a civilized conversation with Doug Pratt, as he struggles to decide what to do. In his interactions with Kate, he will reveal more details as to why he took the course of action he did four years ago. Kate will also reveal a secret from her past that helps explain why she is so persistent about seeing Eban jailed for life.
Eban intends to resume the party lifestyle he knows and loves but finds that things have changed. His father and his father's best friend and attorney encourage him to keep a low profile. His former best "friends" Cal and Theo, who received probation for their role in the incident, have done a complete 180 since the incident, and want nothing to do with Eban anymore. Eban is determined to eliminate the threats posed to him, which will place in danger Zach, Kate and others. Multiple characters are forced to wrestle with their conscious and come to terms with decisions they made or neglected to make in the past, and what, if anything, they can do now to make amends for past actions. Adding to the moral turmoil, the relationship between Zach and Kate becomes more than platonic, an ethically dubious and risky proposition. The story has plenty of action and intrigue, with some rather good surprise twists.

Overkill was an absolutely heart-wrenching novel that hit me in all the feels. Zach is the kind of guy every woman wants to have in her life ~ strong, upstanding, and an all-around good guy.
As for Rebecca and what happened to her, it was awful and no one should have to "live" that way. Being a parent, I empathized with Rebecca's parents and their dilemma.
Sandra Brown really makes you feel the characters' lives and what they're dealing with unlike any other recent book I've read.
If you enjoy suspense, tautly written plots and wonderfully done characters, Overkill is definitely the book for you.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.
