T.I.M.E. BOOK REVIEW:
Looking for a "mix tape" of a book that combines a great thriller story, action adventure and even a steamy romance? Meet your match with Overkill by Sandra Brown.
Throw in an equally appealing mix of locations with Atlanta, New Orleans and — the most spectacular of them all — a rural mountain designer cabin in Western North Carolina that has a killer view of a waterfall.
Not finished yet though... The two main characters may seem as different as can be but their chemistry is zip-zapping from the first "hello"! Think Tom Brady meets Tinker Bell... if Tinker Bell was an attorney with a brain equally as magical as her spritely appearance.
This was my first Sandra Brown read (I know, I know... Where have I been?!)... And I loved how she writes with abandon as she builds her story based on thrill overload... Engaging all the senses.
And... the final sequence is pretty breathtaking. I don't want to spoil anything for you... Just be prepared to take a "leap of faith" that may cost you a few hours of sleep.
Perfect for readers who would love a "casserole dish" of a book... ✨😎✨

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Sandra Brown's Overkill is a thriller novel that follows former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Zach Bridger. After his volatile marriage to Rebecca Pratt ended in an all-out battle and provided headlines in the media that relentlessly continue — much to Rebecca's delight and Zach's misery — the two have not seen each other since.
That is until Zach receives a call that Rebecca has been placed on life support after a violent assault.
As her medical power of attorney, Zach is asked to make the impossible choice of whether to keep her on life support or take her off of it.
The responsibility and public scrutiny become unbearable and Zach ultimately walks away deferring to Rebecca's parents' wishes to keep her alive regardless of her bleak medical status.
But when Rebecca's attacker, Eban Clarke, is released from prison early, Zach is approached by the state prosecutor, Kate Lennon, with a plan to retry Eban on a higher charge of murder.
What follows is a fast-paced, roller-coaster ride of a novel that is impossible to put down. Brown expertly weaves a tale of love, deception, and betrayal that will leave readers hooked until the very last page.
BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION:
• Responsibilities of establishing and accepting a medical power of attorney can be emotionally, spiritually, and mentally taxing.
• Best intentions for everyone involved can be challenging to navigate, especially when it comes to relationships that have ended poorly.
• Making life and death choices, especially for someone else, are filled with endless considerations unique to each circumstance.
BOOK QUOTE:
"Communications technology and social media have changed the world in positive ways. But that they've also created a public arena in which anyone — not only celebrities, but anyone — could find themself defending their privacy, their integrity, even their life, for the amusement of a universal, bloodthirsty audience." - Overkill by Sandra Brown

♡ Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

2.5 rounded up to a generous 3
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC of Overkill.
The premise sounded promising but there were problems that caused the promise of a good thriller to peter out.
Cons:
> Characters are flat, two dimensional. I felt no connection with any of them. The dialogue was not authentic to the characters.
> Romance, and off color romance at that. . The sexual innuendoes unnecessary and offensive.
> Not a thriller. No pow 💥 at all.
Sandra Brown usually writes excellent mystery thrillers. This was an outlier for sure. Disappointing.

Overkill is my first Sandra Brown novel and I really enjoyed reading it. Zach Bridger makes for an interesting lead character and his travails were also intriguing. Adding the prosecutor Kate made for a unique look at how a case might unfold. The romance in the story did not work well for me, but it was not a joy killer. So I will look for another Sandra Brown novel and hope to find it as good as Overkill..
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I’ve read Ms. Brown’s work since the 1980s and looking at her books in order of publication, I realized I’ve read a large number of her books – probably 40-50+. I was intrigued at the blurb for Overkill.
Ms. Brown writes a variety of topics, plots and characters and this one was interesting in that Zach, the ex-husband of Rebecca, was left in charge of her medical care and was asked to make a disturbing decision. After his life in the limelight as an NFL quarterback, the high-profile divorce, and his eventual spiral downwards, he knows too well that any decision will be highly controversial. He moved away, leaving Rebecca’s parents to make any medical decisions.
Several years later, he’s living mostly in seclusion in a beautiful mountain home and small town when Kate, a prosecuting attorney comes to him about the crime committed against Rebecca. This starts a thrill ride of learning more about the three men involved with the crime, police intimidation, an attraction between Zach and Kate, Kate’s secrets, and Zach still trying to determine the best way to handle Rebecca’s care.
The lives of the three men and Eban’s father were interesting to see how they had interacted in the past and how two of the men had tried to move on from the crime. Eban is rich and spoiled and doesn’t accept any blame for the crime and is just a really nasty character. Eban’s misdeeds have been covered up for years by his father and his father’s trusted attorney/long-time friend, that has only encouraged Eban’s sinister behavior.
There are twists and turns with all the characters, and it built up to an explosive ending. Another great story from Ms. Brown and highly recommend.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this new work.

I have read one or two books by Sandra Brown but that was several years ago. After reading "Overkill", I remember why I always loved her book.
Overkill is a book you will never want to put down. I loved the characters especially Zach Bridger and Kate Lennon. Zach was MVP retired quarterback and Kate is a prosecutor. I love their relationship and their bickering back and forth. The story pulls you in on the very first page. It has everything you want in a book, suspense, romance and adventure.
I will highly recommend this book to family and friends
The book rating is a 5 out of 5 stars
I received this complimentary copy of this book through netgalley for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine and my alone.

One of the consequences of partying, drinking and doping so much that you have no idea where you are or what will happen as a result. Sandra Brown starts this book off in such a great way, you will get hooked immediately. You will need to know how all of the characters are connected. This is a great story that keeps you reading until the end, with an ending that will truly surprise you!

It has been a few years since I have read a book by Sandra Brown. Envy is my favorite book by her. . I had a love/hate relationship with Overkill. I enjoyed the two main characters Zach Bridger, a retired quarterback superstar who lives as a recluse on the top of a mountain, and Kate Lennon a lawyer in the Office of the District Attorney, who is looking into the case of Eban Clarke who is a spoiled privileged rich man who has just been released early from prison after four years of his sentence. He was found guilty of leaving Bridger’s ex-wife in a coma after a horrible night of sex with Eban and his two friends Cal and Theo. Zach and Kate are both good people and I can see them appearing in a future novel together.
What I didn’t like was the opening scenes of the “night of sex.” It was a little too graphic for my tastes. I think the book would have been more effective without so many storylines, There was also quite a bit of repetition and sub plots introduced. My thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. The opinions in this review are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. Loved the MCs, hated the bad guy, a really good plot with difficult subject of assisted killing of a woman in a coma so the lawyer can charge her assailant with murder since he got out of prison after only four years for aggravated assault. This guy is a real douche, he's a narcissistic psychopath. The ex husband of the woman in a coma has POA and so the attorney, the hot attorney, has contacted him about the issue but he left that decision up to his former FIL, and that old coot is vindictive. So anyways there is the forbidden love aspect going on between the lawyer and the ex husband.
Its a really good romantic suspense/thriller. Typical Sandra Brown which makes a good read.

Talk about a whirlwind. This was a great read. The plot was so good and full of all the good stuff. You get suspense. romance, betrayal, heartbreak and a vile villain. The ending was so good, you want to let out a whoop.

Suspenseful, page turning and thought provoking! I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks to Net galley for the ARC.

I'm a sucker for a good Sandra Brown book and this one did not disappoint. I was hooked from the first chapter and sped through it in one weekend. I wanted the story to keep going.
With a few little twists, Overkill is the story of an ex-NFL quarterback who's been keeping a low profile when suddenly his ex-wife is rushed to the emergency room and not expected to survive. What follows is a few short days, a little time jump or two, some romance, and a lot of drama.
Following multiple characters, this book gives a wide array of personalities, some you absolutely loathe, and some you grant forgiveness. And at least one you might fall in love with.
If you like mystery, some fast-paced action, some spicy scenes, or you like Sandra Brown, this book has a little bit of something for pretty much everyone.

Overkill by Sandra Brown
This is my first Sandra Brown novel. I know, I know. I’m very late to the party. I thank #GrandCentralPublishing and #NetGalley for this ARC to get me in the game.
Chapter one of Overkill started like it needed a trigger warning, but by chapter two, the story eased up. I’m glad I hung on. Characters, former football legend Zach Bridger and attorney Kate Lennon, lead the story which revolves around Zach’s ex-wife and her interfering father, Doug Pratt.
The story will hold the reader’s attention throughout, and the developing relationship between Zach and Kate follows a predictable path. Other players have significant roles and it all gels nicely with a kicker at the end.
This is a great story for an easy, enjoyable read, and I’ll give it 5 stars as I look for my next Sandra Brown novel.

I love me a good Sandra Brown thriller, but this one just fell short for me. I felt like this lacked substance and her backlist books are much better. I would still recommend this one, but it just wasn’t my favorite.

I honestly haven't read a Sandra Brown novel in a while. However, I am so happy that I choose to read this one. Overkill is a very intriguing story with a bit of romance, evil characters and suspense. Just what you look forward to in a thriller.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the eARC. #Netgalley #Overkill #SandraBrown

This was a page-turned but not in the typical way! When former-NFL footballer Zach Bridges finds out his ex-wife is on life support, after a violent assault, his life is turned upside down. Somehow, despite the divorce Zach has medical power of attorney for Rebecca and her future is in his hands.
Years, later Rebecca's assailant is set free from prison and Rebecca is still hanging on. Enter the Georgia state prosecutor who tells Zach that if Rebecca were to die a murder charge is possible. This book pulled at your heartstrings while making you question what decision Zach should make.

Sandra Brown can write all different types of books. This happens to be my favorite! A mystery/murder yes please. I enjoyed the whole thing front to back.

Thank you so very much to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this copy! As usual, it was a great novel from Sandra Brown!
In this novel we have a retired football star and a state prosecutor who come together to make a wrong, right but, they endure a fight for their own lives. Zach, former football player’s ex wife, Rebecca isn’t a modest woman and finds her way into Eban’s world. Eban is a pompous, selfish, destructive and violent man. He and his two friends put Rebecca in the hospital. Years later she is still considered brain dead but, her parents have held out hope and wouldn’t “pull the plug”. That decision has always been Zach’s in fact. He left it in their hands and now with Eban’s release from prison brings all of these characters together.
This story was classic Sandra Brown; suspense, mystery mixed with romance on the side. It flew by and was super good! I enjoyed this one and definitely recommend. The setting seemed beautiful and the characters were well developed. The twists were perfectly placed and kept me invested! Four stars!

Buckhead. Atlanta. I know the area and love when a book takes place in a location I am familiar with. And football? Are you ready for some football, because I am.
Zach was an MVP Super Bowl quarterback, emphasis on was. He had been booted from a sport he loved and he had no one to blame but himself. Rebecca was a party girl. Again, emphasis on was. He hadn’t seen Rebecca since their divorce.
Zach made a quick exit from the Cayman Islands to her hospital room. He felt her need to control his life, when he was told that he had power of attorney over her medical decisions if there was ever a time she couldn’t make the decision for herself. I can’t imagine having to make that call. I guess I would ask myself, ” What would ? want?”
State Prosecutor Kate Lennon arrives at his secluded cabin to let him know that the man responsible for Rebecca’s vegetative state is being released from prison. She wants to put him back where she thinks he belongs, but she needs his help to do it.
Richy Rich Eban, the man who, along with his three friends, had nearly killed her. He had served two years for what he had done to her. It ticked me off when I read two years (way to tick me off, Sandra), then I almost saw red when I ‘saw’ what his father gave him as a get out of jail ‘gift’. Despicable people and it is his father’s fault for the way he is, though Eban made his own choices, and continues to do so after his release.
I would be so angry….Who do they think they are? Eban, is he a sociopath? Psychopath? Or just a rich ‘kid’ that feels entitled, because he never had to be accountable for his actions. I say through the BOOK at them all. I would feel the same if it was a poor person that had committed the act. I love when I see them knocked down and watch them plead for mercy.
I love books like Overkill by Sandra Brown. The characters came across as authentic, faulty, arrogant. I was empathetic with Zach, not wanting to be the one to make the decision. Would I have been more angry than he was? You bet. But, then I wonder if it was because she was his ex and they had no connection any more. It is so real. I feel the vulnerability. I even discussed with Mr Wonderful about getting video cameras for the house right after finishing it. LOL
Very well done, Sandra. I read it in one day. I love romantic suspense and Overkill hit all the buttons. AND I loved the epilogue, a little something extra is always appreciated.

Sandra Brown fans will enjoy her latest novel. She is the queen of intertwining a suspenseful story with a burgeoning steamy romance.

It’s been a while since I read Sandra Brown so I was excited to pick up her new release, Overkill, and I quickly remembered why I love reading her books. In this romantic suspense, Zach learns his ex-wife gave him medical power of attorney when she is put on life support after an assault. Making the decision is more than he can bear, so he lets her parents make the final choice. But years later, when the person who assaulted her may be released early, a state prosecutor approaches him with the same life-altering choice.
I was at the edge of my seat as Zach learns about what happened to his ex-wife. What she did to him and the fallout it has on his life. Years later it all comes back to haunt him again, even as he now wants to live a quiet life. But Kate is more than he bargained for. As danger is headed their way, they find themselves drawn to each other in ways it shouldn’t, even with all the tension between them. He was in a difficult situation, but Kate wanted justice. The man who hurt his ex was not a good man. What did he have planned and are they safe? I devoured this book from start to end!
Happy reading!
