Zach Bridger is a washed-up MVP who is saddle with a decision he doesn’t want to make so he punts. He does nothing. Four years later the situation changes. He must now deal with a go-getter prosecutor, his ex-father in-law, an over-zealous deputy sheriff and a sociopath or two. The question of whether Rebecca should remain on life support continues throughout. But Eban is out of jail and carrying on as if he never left his deplorable, entitled life.
I have been a fan of Sandra Brown for decades. Her books are always exciting and action-packed. Her characters always appear with several depths to them and are unlayered throughout the story. Overkill is easy to read and entertaining. It is one that the reader should prepare to stay up all night reading.
I received an ARC from Grand Central Publishing through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.

This book had so many things I loved! Big ex football star with a lot of drama in his life meets a sexy attorney who wins his heart but he doesn’t know it at first. This book has it all -drama and lies, one man’s ugly ego and thinks he can do whatever he wants because he has money, an attorney who wants Justice, ex football player who wants to live his life in peace.
They all come together full circle in a deadly matchup, but true friends never leave and always have your back. Loved the relationship between Zach and his coach, the passion between Zach and Kate, and everything that happened so they could truly realize where they were meant to be. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this exciting story!

I like Sandra Brown's books as they are a good, quick read. Overkill did not disappoint. I was on a long flight from Europe and this helped pass the time. It is a good legal/suspense thriller. No one would not want to be put in the position to that Zach is in to determine the fate of his ex-wife, Rebecca, who is on life support. His former father-in-law is battling the right to keep her alive but legally Zach has the medical power of attorney. The person who caused Rebecca's vegetative state, Eban, would do anything to not return to prison for his crime.
If you are looking for a fast paced read with twists and turns, this one is for you.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy.

Zach Bridger is a former Super Bowl MVP. In the eyes of the public, he's a washed up has been. But Zach has secretly been getting his life together. But he must face some things from his past. His ex-wife is in a vegetative state from a sexual encounter gone wrong. The person responsible for her situation, a wealthy nogooder named Eban, has been recently released for his too short time in prison.
Kate is a dedicated prosecutor who feels like Eban got off easy. She has something from her past that drives her to put Eban behind bars, permanently. Double jeopardy says that Eban can't be tried for the same charge twice. But if Zach's ex-wife, Rebecca, is taken off life support, then the crime becomes murder. And according to the legal action taken prior to her death, only Zach can make the decision on her medical situation. A second trial is possible. But she needs a reluctant Zach to cooperate. And, when Eban gets wind of what's going on, he decides to take the offensive against Zach and Kate.
Sandra Brown doesn't disappoint in her newest novel. Great character development and a relentless plot full of twists and turns is, again, the case.

A longtime favorite author has written a cleverly plotted new romantic legal suspense. I've read her for too many years to admit to, and this reminded me of why I used to read her. The central issue of a Medical Power of Attorney, it's legal interpretation, the results and ramifications was a thought provoking and an enlightening subject.
Zach, a once famous pro football quarterback, is now retired living in the remote North Carolina mountains. He was a superstar celebrity and didn't enjoy the notariety. He and Rebecca had a short, tumultuous marriage. They were living in Atlanta then divorced. Rebecca loved the fame, the money and the spotlight to excess. She went wild with drugs, parties and lovers.
Later Zack's tropical Island vacation is upended when he learns Rebecca's partying habits leave her unresponsive.
Her boyfriend, Eban, had a party, illegal substances were involved, Rebecca never comes out of a coma.
When they were married they had done advance directives, Medical Power of Attorney. After the divorce she failed to change her agent.
The legal dilemma that created is long lasting.
Rebecca’s father, Doug Pratt, is a hate filled, spiteful man. He never liked Zach before the divorce. It just grew worse when he found Zach still had the final decision making power in Rebecca's care. She is eventually moved from Atlanta to a special care facility in New Orleans.
Eban is prosecuted and goes to prison. Now he is up for release. Kate is with the Office of the District Attorney. She tracks down Zach and attempts to explain the new legal positions and possibilities if and when Rebecca is taken off life support or otherwise dies.
These legal strategies are complicated and heart breakingly real. Eban is going to be free while Rebecca is trapped in a vegetative state. Kate explains to Zach this new decision he has to make about whether or not to take Rebecca off life support. As Kate and Zach continue to meet trying to find solutions, you will feel the romantic tingles flickering between them.
There are twists, lessons to be pondered, red herrings, surprise secrets and outright lies. The plot is original, important and relevant. All the characters were realistic and believable. If readers don't run out and draft their own advance directives and Medical Power of Attorney, they missed some critical information.
The legal aspects of this story are some of the best I've read recently.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the advance digital copy of "Overkill" by Sandra Brown and to Grand Central Publishing. These are my honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily.

A very good thriller with great characters. It is so easy to dislike Eban. Zach has been through so much. His bad marriage to his career imploding. He has risen from the ashes only to be drawn back into more turmoil. Kate is sure if she can get Zach to rethink keeping his ex-wife alive, she can get Eban put away for the rest of his life. Zach just can't do that right now. She has been that way for 4 years, she was never a good wife, but he still can't bring himself to do it out of respect for her parents. When Eban goes after Zach and Kate, they have to think of a way to keep themselves safe and make sure he goes back to prison.

You can never go wrong with a Sandra Brown book and this one is no exception. Great story that pulls you in and holds you until you are done. There are twists and turns in this that keep you going even when you may need to stop to eat, sleep or go to bathroom.....this is one of those books that you take with you and don't want to put down til you are done!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this and leave my opinion.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my review. I loved this story! It is, like all Sandra Brown books, loaded with twists and turns and with characters flawed but likeable. The plot is our worst nightmare and it is handled with care and delicacy. Brown is at the top of her game and she continues to create stories and characters that we care about. I totally recommend this book to readers who enjoy Sandra Brown and who appreciate a great psychological thriller.

This book was definitely a wild ride from start to finish. If you’re a fan of Sandra Brown, you don’t want to miss this one.
I finished this one in a single day, which isn’t so rare for me but I have to be pretty invested to forget to check my phone 500 times. I didn’t check my phone at all. Completely hooked.
My only complaint came at the end, I thought the bad guy got off too easy. Other than that, I really liked it.

It has been a while since I have read this author but once I started this one I could not put it down. Zach Bridger was the pro quarterback who had it all including the Super Bowl ring but when he gets the call that his ex-wife is in the hospital he is on the next flight to Atlanta. It appears she didn't change her Advanced Directive and left him in charge of her life and she is incapacitated. Now it is years later and the man who put her in that state is getting out of prison and Kate Lennon shows up at his mountain home in North Carolina with a proposition. She is a States Attorney and wants Eban, the man who choked Rebecca, put back in prison, and the only way to do that is to stop life support so they can try him for murder. This story was part romance and part suspense but it was thought provoking all the way through. I stated above it has been a long time since I have read this author but my shelves are full of her works that are read and loved. This one is highly recommended by me!

Sandra Brown always delivers interesting characters with a spicy spin. A patron favorite and always a great addition to the collection.

3.5 stars - Overkill is a mystery/thriller with some interesting and layered ethical and moral components. The story rapidly develops with a escalating sense of tension and suspense. Small reveals along the way surprised. It became uneven in the last third, and the ending was less satisfying than what I'd hoped for. The few bedroom scenes felt forced and overdone to me (I skimmed those parts). However, still a page turner that kept me into it throughout. My second Sandra Brown this summer (also ever), and I will come back for more.
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing via Netgalley for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

I used to read Sandra Brown books all the time and then moved on to other authors. When I read the blurb of this book, I was intrigued by the storyline so I requested an ARC from NetGalley and I received the ARC. Ok, with that being said, I did enjoy this book and all the complications it came with. Divorced from his first wife, Rebecca Pratt, former Super Bowl MVP, hasn’t seen his ex wife for a long time so he his shocked to receive a life-altering
call about her. She is on life support after a violent assault and even though they were divorced she left Zach her medical power-of-attorney decision. Zach eventually walks away letting Rebecca’s parents handle the situation. Four years have passed and Rebecca’s attacker Eban Clark, the son of a very wealthy family gets an early release from prison. Now in comes Kate Lennon, a brilliant state prosecutor is determined to but him back behind bars. The bottom line is Rebecca’s parent’s have kept her on life support all this time but if her condition were to change, like die or taken off life support Eban could be retried on a new charge: murder. So, Zack is back on the hot seat again. There are some major twists at the end of this book and things get steamy between Kate and Zach. I again want to thank net galley and the publisher for this ARC. I really enjoyed ready this book. It was a great summer read. If you like Sandra Brown who has written so many books, this latest one is definitely for you.

This was my first Sandra Brown book and I was not disappointed. The cover is intriguingly eerie and is what initially got my attention. What I liked the most and what I think really sets this book apart is the aspect of Rebecca’s situation. Due to being on life support she is what I’d consider a secondary character but the book still revolves around her. Going to be purchasing a physical copy for my shelf.

Overkill by Sandra Brown tells the story of Kate a prosecutor, Zach a NFL super star, ex wife Rebecca in a vegetative state and Eban the bad guy. I have not read one of her books before but I will definitely read others!! I loved the characters! Eban was a really great antagonist. The plot was great. The romance scenes were done really well. I will recommend this book. Thank you for allowing me to review this book.

Zach is an ex pro football player. Kate is a member of the Attorney General’s office, and she is seeking out Zack for one thing: to turn his ex-wife’s life support off. Rebecca has been surviving in a special facility after a traumatic brain injury for four years. Until the incident, Zach had no idea he was still the person who held the power over medical decisions. He and Rebecca had been divorced for 5 years. Rebecca’s condition is no accident. Eban was sentenced to prison for his part in Rebecca’s condition, but has just been released early. Eban comes from an extremely wealthy family. When he was released, he was given back his passports and his rights to move around as he sees fit.
Kate knows Eban should not be out. He will just continue to do what he did to Rebecca to others. But she can not retry him for battery, or anything thing else. Double Jeopardy. However, there are statues of limitations for murder, and since Rebecca’s current condition was caused by Eban and his “friends” when she dies, Eban can be tried for murder.
This book was highly interesting. Was it Sandra’s best? No, but I still enjoyed the ride of the story. The end did drag on a little, and parts of it pissed me off, but overall it was an entertaining read

Sandra Brown has a way of inserting you into a (unlikely) situation that makes you ponder how you would react and/or urges you to put into action safety practices that would discourage the particular situation. I personally appreciate this immensely!
This book stands out because as women (if you’re not a woman, pretend for a moment you are), we’ve all had a season in life where maybe we didn’t have the best safety practices in place whether we were in our college phase , our early 20’s or maybe a late wild hair and just that small iota of information makes you relate to this story.
It reminded me of the delicate nature of being aware of your surroundings, if you go to a party with friends.. look out for one another and don’t leave anyone behind, have directives set in place so that if anything tragic ever happens in your life that your family won’t be plagued with the burden of having to decide your fate.
I enjoyed this read and while im trying to not give too many tidbits away, it’s a wonderful book with a strong message.

No words can describe how much I enjoyed this book so y’all better read this okay????? The drama packed mystery thriller book really got me going crazy

OVERKILL is an exceptionally well written suspense novel with a little bit of romance and a hint of a psychological drama. When he was at the height of his MVP career with the National Football League, Zach Bridger enjoyed the high and wild life. Along the way, a beautiful and extremely wild young woman named Rebecca set her sights on Zach and the two were married in Las Vegas. The ten months of their married life were anything but bliss and the divorce was welcomed by both parties.
Rebecca continued her wild life while Zach learned from the experience and began to clean up his act. Then at a party thrown by Eban Clarke, the spoiled and rebellious son of very rich parents, Rebecca ended up tragically in a persistent vegetative state kept alive by artificial means. Zach is shocked to learn that the Medical Power of Attorney and the advanced directive put into effect when Rebecca and Zach were married were still in effect. This was complicated by the emphatic resistance of her parents to put the advanced directive into effect. As a result for the next four years, Zach was forced to do whatever was necessary to keep the brain-dead Rebecca on life support.
The suspense in the book comes from Eban Clarke, who was imprisoned for his part in the events leading to Rebecca’s serious injury. To that end, Assistant District Attorney Kate Lemmon comes to Zach trying to persuade him to end life support on Rebecca because whenever she dies, Eban would be subject to arrest for her murder.
The bulk of the novel surrounds the twisted dilemma in which Zach finds himself, caught between Rebecca’s parents who insist that she be kept alive at all costs and Kate who desperately wants to see Eban Clark receive the punishment he so richly deserves. Of course, along the way Zach discovers deep feelings for Kate. In the meantime, Eban learns the danger in which he finds himself and is determined to resolve it—one way or another.
This is the first book I have read by Sandra Brown and I was deeply impressed with her ability to create deep, flawed, and engrossing characters and to write a tightly knit and expertly crafted story around them. I will definitely be liking for more books by this author!

I received this book from NetGalley for my honest opinion.
I have not read a Sandra Brown book in a long time. This one hooked me from the very beginning. I finished it in one day.
I highly recommend this book.
