When I requested this one I didn’t realize it was part of a series and I was so confused trying to follow along. I had no idea what was going on. And the dog eating the dead body at the first was suppose to be a funny and wow moment and it was just gross. This one just wasn’t for me, thank you to the.publisher and netgally for a copy of this for an honest review

Flight Risk
Cherie Priest
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In Flight risk, readers join Grady & Leda for a second round of mystery and psychic magic in Seattle. Personally, I liked this adventure better than the first. The cast of characters are just as funny and lovable as before, but I felt like the plot moved at a faster pace, which kept me more engaged. The dialogue is well done and the banter often made me chuckle out loud. I did find the formatting of the text messages in both books, to be distracting and I wish they were separated more clearly.

I hope that this is a series that continues because the character chemistry is so well developed. I am also hopeful for a Grady/Leda partnership of a different kind…but maybe I’m the only one? Fingers crossed for their future, and regardless of if it’s romantic or platonic, this cast of characters are prefect to curl up with anytime you’re in the mood for a light and funny mystery!

Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the ARC!

From the first pages I was sucked into Leda and Grady's latest investigation(s). Grady and his daughter are searching for their lost dog, Cairo. He ran off while they were hiking at Paradise on Mt. Rainier. He's been gone several days and just when they are ready to return home the wayward pooch turns up with a surprise. He's proudly holding a human limb in his mouth and wants to play keep away. Grady may be an off duty homicide detective but that is neither here nor there. He's on the case and trying to corral his dog.
Leda, on the other hand is being asked to track down a man's missing sister. Her psychic abilities, erratic as they are. She is a psychic travel agent but she is really good working as a psychic consultant with Grady on his cases. It's hard to explain but oh, so much fun. They make a great team. It turns out that the leg belongs to the husband of the missing sister and then things really get interesting.
The mystery, the characters and the pitch perfect humor all make for another 5 star read. I can't wait to see what comes next.
My thanks to the publisher Atria and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Leda is back in "Flight Risk," the second in Cherie Priest's series about the sporadically psychic travel agent, and her police "partner" Grady. The case kicks off when Grady's dog disappears during an outing to a national park, only to reappear days later carrying a human leg.

This is a good second novel, but it does miss a bit of the charm and whimsy of the first book, "Grave Reservations." Leda is much more scattered in this one, and the narrative doesn't seem to flow quite as easily. While you don't have to have read the first book to enjoy this one, you will want to, just for more antics from Leda and her bestie, Niki.

Grady is not as by-the-book in this one, and I kind of missed that. With Niki and Leda being as outrageous as they are, we really need him to be the voice of reason. Maybe that's why this book felt a bit disjointed and that Leda was just going in circles.

It's fun and frothy and well worth reading while we wait for the third installment. Recommended.

3.75 out of 5 stars.

Maybe my expectations were too high for this book but I was disappointed in this entry in the series. First, Leda and Niki become obnoxious ciphers; they are not much more than a serious of quirks and the fact that these late 30s women behave in the way described and it's meant to be endearing(?) or funny(?) grates to the point of unreadability. I mean, if someone like Niki put her dirty-ass flip flops on my car's dashboard she would be walking to her destination with a quickness, but I think we're meant to experience this kind of rudeness as cute. These women were so much more interesting and realized in the first book that this flatness SUCKS. They are callous in a way that doesn't feel normal or earned; at one point they tell a person watching a relative be interrogated by the police "Welcome to the show" while they loudly slurp their coffees. WTF? It's an emotional immaturity and selfishness that wasn't evident in their behavior or relationship in Grave Reservations and I was bummed out by it. We get more insight into Grady, which is fine for what it is, but if I want middle-aged male detective fiction I can find that anywhere. Second, the mysteries are either perfunctory to the point of nonexistence or troubled by a lack of commitment to the story. There's a plot thread of sexual predatoriness in academia that deserves to be Leda and Grady's sole investigation and treated with care - this type of light mystery isn't really the right vehicle for an interrogation into the power dynamics and potential familial destruction involved in this scenario and it shows. Finally, Leda, girl, the reason you are even out with this policeman is because you are PSYCHIC. Tell him when you have a physic moment or need a lie down because it's all getting to be too much. Anyway, the last few pages gave me what I wanted as we finally get the Castaways together and interacting and it made me smile. Perhaps this is too harsh a review for this book, but I really loved Grave Reservations and I always enjoy Cherie Priest's writing so this book for real made me upset. Maybe this is a sophomore slump? I hope we get another in the series and I hope some of these hiccups are worked through - I'll definitely follow the series if it continues but fingers crossed it returns to its strengths.

it took me a bit to get into this one. I think some of that was because I forgot a little of what happened in Grace Reservations. but as I kept reading and going through this one I found it to be engaging and a fun mystery. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This book was a true delight. "Inconsistent psychic" is my new favorite moniker, and I was immediately taken by the idea of a random human leg mystery. Grady and Leda have such fun chemistry, and I hope to see more books in this series.

Flight Risk is the second book in Cherie Priest’s newest series, The Booking Agents. (I loved the first book and you can read my review here.) Cherie does a great job reviewing important details from the first book so I *think* you could probably read this one if you haven’t read Grave Reservations yet (though you’ll be missing out on a great book). As with the first, Flight Risk takes place in Seattle and the surrounding areas, with an emphasis on Capital Hill and the neighborhoods south of the city.

A man comes to Leda for any help she may be able to give him on his sister’s disappearance while Grady is roped into a case involving a human leg his dog found in Mount Rainier National Park, and, as with the first book, Leda and Grady work together to unravel the two cases. Leda is a psychic, and I like how her ability has a mind of its own and therefore feels more real, making these books a cozy mystery/magical realism hybrid.

I love these books. They’re an easy, fun read, funny, entertaining, and entirely enjoyable.

"Inconsistent psychic Leda Foley and Seattle detective Grady Merritt return to solve the case of a missing couple in this sequel to the "delightful" (The New York Times Book Review) mystery Grave Reservations.

When psychic travel agent Leda Foley is approached by a man searching for his sister, she quickly agrees to help. The missing woman disappeared with a vintage orange car, a fat sack of her employer's cash, and a grudge against her philandering husband - a man who never even reported her missing.

Meanwhile, Seattle PD detective Grady Merritt has temporarily misplaced his dog. While he's passing out bright pink "Lost" flyers at the Mount Rainier visitor's center, the wayward pooch appears - with a human leg in his mouth.

Thanks to DNA matching, Grady learns that the leg has something to do with Leda's new client, and soon the two cases are tangled.

Theories abound, but law enforcement is low on leads. Lucky for Grady, Leda has a few ideas that might just be crazy enough to work. They'll need one yellow dog, a fair share of teamwork, and perhaps a bit of Klairvoyant Karaoke to piece the clues together in this "undeniable treat" (Gwenda Bond, New York Times bestselling author) of a mystery."

I am ALWAYS here for dogs digging up body parts. Likewise I am ALWAYS here for a new Cherie Priest book!

When Seattle police detective Grady's Merritt's dog goes missing, somehow psychic travel agent, Leda Foley gets involved along with her best friend, Niki. This book & series are just fun. Leda's quirkiness & Grady's seriousness, but willing to try something different, are a good balance. If you looking for something not too serious, but with a good mystery, I highly recommend.

Leda’s missing person case and Grady’s case surrounding his dog dragging around a human leg while lost near Mount Rainier collide. They, of course, have no alternative but to work together to solve both their cases.

This is a fun series filled with quirky characters, humor, friendships old and new, fledgling psychic abilities and police investigation. This installment dragged a bit in the middle, but picked up and came to a satisfying conclusion. An entertaining and enjoyable read!

Leda Foley, the psychic travel agent, is at it once again! When Leda is asked to help find a missing person, she finds out that her police detective buddy, Grady Merritt, is looking for the owner of a missing leg. As the dynamic duo work together on their respective cases, they soon realize their cases are connected. Follow along as they put the pieces together and solve their cases!

I love the humor in this book and the story development that keeps you intrigued the entire book. Even though this is the second in the series, Flight Risk can be read as a stand alone from Grace Reservations.

Set a year after Grave Reservations, Leda and Grady are back and on to their next adventure... So to speak.

Psychic Leda has been contacted by someone looking for their missing sister, and Grady's temporarily missing dog comes back with a souvenir--a human leg. To literally no ones shock their cases are connected, and the two pair up yet again to figure out the connection.

Flight Risk was a little slow but fun, but overall I really enjoyed it.

So excited to dive back into The Booking Agents series and see what Leda, Niki, and Detective Grady are up to now. I flew through Grave Reservations last year and was stoked to get an ARC from Atria for book 2 in the series.

When Detective Grady’s dog goes missing in Mount Rainier National Park, him and his daughter do everything to find him. Luckily, they find the dog, unluckily said dog has stumbled upon a man’s leg. This discovery throws Detective Grady headfirst into investigating and finding the owner of the missing leg. At the same time Leda’s newest client is searching for his lost sister. When Leda’s missing women and Grady’s ‘Mr. Leg’ are determined to be connected, they’ll need their collective skills to solve both cases.

I really love this series. It’s the perfect cozy mystery in my opinion. Even though the plot is a little unrealistic, it’s a charming read and doesn’t dive push a romance on us! Our main character, Leda is a quirky travel agent physic and does karaoke, what isn’t to love?! Her best friend, Niki, is a delight with plenty of comedy. Add in the more serious and level-headed Grady, and you’ve got a perfectly balanced cast of characters who all shine in their own way.

I will say that I enjoyed the first book more than its sequel. The storyline in Grave Reservations pulled me in more and I found it funnier. I also felt that we got more from Leda’s psychic abilities more in the first book and would have liked to see it showcased more in Flight Risk. Overall, I flew through this story and found it enjoyable.

If you are looking for a fun mystery series with likable characters than The Book Agents is perfect for you. Both books have been quick and easy reads and I can’t wait for the next installment. ★★★★

Flight Risk comes out November 15, 2022! Huge thank you to Atria Books for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. If you liked this review, please let me know either by commenting below or by visiting my instagram @speakingof.books.

Flight Risk, by author Cherie Priest, is the second installment in the authors Booking Agent series. This story takes place about a year after Grave Reservation and alternates between Leda Foley, and Seattle Detective Grady Merritt. After losing his dog Cairo on a hiking trip, Grady and his daughter Molly spend days searching for him without any trace. Then, shockingly, Cairo returns with what looks like a human leg in tow. A human leg wearing shoes.

Meanwhile back in her office, Leda, whose travel agency business still needs work in order to pay the bills, is getting a visit from Dan Matarese who claims that his sister Robin Reddick disappeared without a trace and everyone believes that she stole $30,000 which Dan finds outrageous. Curiously, Grady soon learns that the leg that Cairo found, just happens to belong to Paul Reddick. Paul is a professor at a local college who has an affair with a new student each school year.

Leda has what's called psychometry, which means when she touches something, she can get an idea of what happened to the person the item belongs to. What's curious is that both husband and wife disappeared independently of each other, which likely means that another party or parties may be involved. In between Leda's gig as a psychic psongstress routine, she works alongside Grady as a consultant who has come to rely on Leda to solve unsolvable cases.

Once again the supporting cast is a hoot, and Leda's best friend Niki Nelson is always on in on the adventure. Leda and Grady balance each others’ personalities perfectly. He’s the level-headed, play (mostly) by the rules type, and she’s the “go where the spirit takes me” type, and the push and pull of their friendship is always entertaining. Some parts of the story are a bit far-fetched. However, this book has humor, action, banter, and many potential suspects who are introduced to kept me guessing the culprit until the end.

Leda Foley is a travel agent who is also a psychic who is a consultant for the local police department. when she is approached about a missing woman, she decides to look into it.

Grady Merritt is a local Detective at the Seattle PD. when his dog goes missing on a hike and then turns up with a human leg, he finds himself on a case not even in his precinct. when they find an item belonging to the victims Detective Grady takes it to leda to see if she can get a psychic read on it.

Imagine both of their surprise when they discover their cases are connected.

This was a fun, light-ish read. i love detective stories, especially when they have consultants. i did feel that grady and leda lacked chemistry, and that the book went rather slow.

aving enjoyed the first book in this series, I was excited to get my hands on Flight Risk and it was such a fun read!

This outing has inconsistent psychic/travel agent/ police consultant Leda Foley and Seattle detective Grady Merritt working on separate missing person cases that end up connected, so the two hilariously team up again.

The series is called the Booking Agents, perhaps because Grady books criminals, and Leda books travel, and Priest brings other subtlely clever touches to these books. I love the dynamic between this quirky, relatable psychic and the widowed single-father cop. They're supportive of one another and playfully banter, and there's more trust and friendship this time—dual POV, the chapters alternate between Grady's procedural investigation and Leda's psychic leads. I like that they are genuinely friends and not love interests at this point and that Grady is pretty open-minded about the strengths Leda brings to their investigations. Leda's best friend Niki is back and as fun as before, and we get a bit more of Grady's daughter Molly and their dog.

Priest's writing infuses humor and steady pacing to keep you entertained while sleuthing alongside Leda and Grady. Red herrings and misdirections come from both the mysterious circumstances and Leda's fragmented psychic visions. I prefer when authors have their detectives follow leads and use their intellect rather than stumbling upon a resolution, and that is the case here, even with Leda's psychic flashes. I will definitely be following this series and look forward to book three. If you're looking for a slightly edgier cozy with a dash of paranormal, this is one to check out! Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I requested an ARC of Flight Risk, because the synopsis was intriguing. It seemed to have everything I look for in a cozy mystery—plus the paranormal angle was just an added bonus. There were a number of reasons why I liked this one as well as others that I was more lukewarm toward.

The introduction of the various avenues of the mystery—the dog, the leg, and the missing woman—was just good. It was quickly apparent that the different occurrences were linked together, and the early speculation and realizations made by the characters were engaging.

The paranormal aspects were handled quite well. I liked the fact that while Leda had the advantage of her ability, there was still a limitation to what it could do. It was fairly unpredictable, and sometimes what she saw was too vague to be helpful. That being said, the scenes where its presence was most heavily felt—such as feeding her useful information about the cases—were some of my favorite portions of the story.

I did have some problems toward the middle of the book though, where the story slowed down, and it seemed like the mystery was running laps around the characters. Despite the fact that, with the clues available, I was able to figure out what was happening before they did.

Other than that, Flight Risk was a pretty entertaining read.

Book two of the The Booking Agents series.

Leda makes her living as a travel agent. But has a most interesting secret talent. It seems Leda possesses certain psychic abilities. While it doesn’t exactly pay the bills, she entertains the patrons of a local watering hole with her special talent. Here’s how it works… she holds an object a customer gives her and if her “woo-woo” (her term, not mine) is working she then picks a song that will mean something to that customer. Everyone loves it and her gig fills the house!

Leda is also known to dabble with the local police department helping solve difficult crimes.

This time she’s approached by the brother of a missing woman hoping Leda can find his sister. The police don’t seem to be taking the disappearance seriously.

Grady, a police detective and Ledas’ friend is working a separate case. They’re quick to realize both may be connected and once again they need to join forces.

Leda is a quirky, fun character and her psychic abilities sometimes put her in sticky situations. I find myself chuckling at all her shenanigans.

This book was as good as the previous, breezing through it in just over a day. And already looking forward to the next in the series!

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books.

Leda Foley has a new case. A man has come to her looking for answers to why his sister disappeared. She is just starting to get to work when Grady Merritt, homicide detective shows up. His dog found a leg at Mount Rainier. Just the leg. Well, he also swallowed a man's wedding ring. The two are able to track the ring back to the woman's husband. Which is odd since the man didn't seem to worried his wife was missing. He's a professor whose interest in his students may be a little too interested. But both man and wife are missing and it will take Leda and Grady working together to find them both.
I like this series. I like that Leda and Grady aren't love interests (at least not yet) and for sure there is no love triangle (a trap many cozies seem to fall into). I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.
