Y'all! This book is a whopper of a fabulous ride! One I enjoyed very much!
I love a good horse story and this one didn't disappoint.
Who loves secrets, horses and historical details in a book? I do!
And with Stephenia H. McGee at the helm it's sure to be an exciting journey!
And for me it was! I just couldn't put this book down. I finished it one day!
My favorite thing about this book was Arrow of course! An amazing horse.
The characters were all wonderful too. Except maybe a few drove me crazy at times. The nagging was what did it.
I liked Nora immediately. She was a woman ahead of her time. I felt like we had a lot in common especially with our love of horses.
I give this book 5 stars for a job well done.
I enjoyed the journey of Silas and Nora.
I highly recommend
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Nora is independent, smart a talented horse woman and a devoted spinster. She has a troubled relationship with her mother who doesn’t think sophisticated lady should be riding horses and does her best to give Nora so many chores she doesn’t have time to ride but nothing could keep her from riding especially her new and favorite horse arrow. Where others want to be a brute and show the horse who’s boss she has a much kinder approach and feels she is the only one who understands him. That is until they hire call Cecil a new ranchhand that immediately impresses her even though his first impression of her is that he thought she was a foolish boy but as time progresses they grow closer and learn each others ways and Nora knows he is unlike any man she has ever met especially her uncle who just thinks of her as a problem. Will Cecil B with changes nor‘s mind about marriage and ken she stop him from roaming? There was a lot more to the story he wants to know what happened to his dad Nora just wants to train her horse for the cava Drais if there is enough to keep you interested I just didn’t like the way it ended. I felt like I weighed it all the time and then boom it happened and then boom that was over. I like it little more meat with my gravy and I felt like all I had on my plate with mashed potatoes and a lot of them. It still was a great Brook had been a western I would’ve been fine with that but the genre said romance historical romance and I just felt like there wasn’t enough of that. I still enjoyed the book for what it was worth though. I received this book from NetGalleyShelf and publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Nora Fenton is passionate about her ranch and her horse, Arrow, whom she's had since his birth. But in an age where women shouldn't be found in the stables and as her grieving mother needs support, her uncle steps in to take his brother's place and get her settled as every young woman should.
Silas' mother passes away, giving him the freedom to travel and unravel the mystery of his father's death. When he stumbles upon Emberwilde to train Nora's horse, acts of arson begin, threatening the horse and Nora. The two eventually find a way to work together. Secrets are slowly revealed, but the mystery of the past is coming to their present and motives and who to trust are unclear.
This was the first book for me from this author and I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and the suspense!
*Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I just reviewed The Secrets of Emberwild by Stephenia H. McGee. #TheSecretsofEmberwild #NetGalley
This was a thrilling ride of horses, secrets and finding love. I loved the storyline and the adventures the characters went on!
The Secrets of Emberwild by Stephenia H. McGee is about a horse farm in the early twentieth century. This is my first introduction to Stephenia H. McGee’s writing style. With a predictable heroine, Nora Fenton does not want to sit around and keep house, like her status dictates to her. She wants to spend time training and being around her horse, Arrow, much to her mother’s dismay. The plot was not that interesting. I figured out the whole plot and the ending before twenty percent in the novel. There is a little bit of mystery of someone being wronged in the past, but right away of seeing the hero, I knew how the plot was going to tie all together. The plot issue could be because I enjoy stories with tons of action, and this story definitely does not have this. If readers are fans of gentle moving stories with plenty of downtime, then this might be the right book for you.
I received a complimentary copy of The Secrets of Emberwild by Stephenia H. McGee from Barbour Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
