Hallee Bridgeman's Word of Honor is book two in her Love and Honor series. She does an amazing job of pulling me in from page one. Word of Honor is full of terrorism and heroism. As I began to wonder if the story would be anticlimactic in it's conclusion she pulls out more stops and ropes me back in. There were moments in this story I did not see coming. There are few things better in romantic suspense than surprises that keep the pages turning. Bridgeman is good at bringing humor to tough topics and layers to characters.
Bill "Drumstick" Sanders teams up with Lynda Cutler to identify and take down those responsible to terrorizing her country and murdering her partner. As they come together as a fake married couple touring the middle east their history tries to repeatedly creep in and sabotage their progress. But nothing will keep Drumstick and their teams from completing their mission or keeping Lynda, the only eye witness, safe.
I am so enjoying this new to me author. I'm looking forward to reading book three in this series and am excited to hear it also releases soon!
Thank you Revell and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book and enjoy this author!
I was immediately hooked by Hallee Bridgeman’s writing style in the previous book in this series (Honor Bound), and couldn’t wait to jump into this next installment. it did not disappoint!
Similar to the first, it’s not one to read at night—topically and because I had to find out what happens next!
I do recommend reading the books in order; it will help fellow readers to know and appreciate Bill’s backstory and character arc even more deeply. His journey fleshed out here was quite satisfying; I wasn’t his number one fan in book 1, but mostly because even then I could tell his story wasnt finished yet. Ha! And here we are.
Probably quite handy for new readers to this series that two books are out, too, so you can binge accordingly! And book 3 is coming soon, too (but have no fear, this does not finish on a cliffhanger).
4/5 stars; absolutely looking forward to the next book!
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
You hit the ground running with this one! So many plot twists you won't want to put it down.
I received an ARC through Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
This was another really exciting read in this series. It starts out with a bang, and doesn’t let you go until the very last page.
Lynda is an FBI analyst who gets caught up in a web of terror the likes of which she’s never seen. When she becomes a witness to terrorists, she must become more active in the investigation which leads her to reconnect with Bill Sanders. Because of their past, the tension for this operation ratchets up tremendously.
As they spend time together, though, they start to talk through their issues and find peace. Not to mention, rekindling feelings they thought long dead.
Either start this book early on a day where you are not busy, or expect to stay up late. And though there were a couple loose threads in the plot, it didn’t take away from my thorough enjoyment of the book.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher, but my review is freely given.
Riveting! You will not be able to put down this story that covers a joint operation between one of DoD’s elite intelligence combat teams, the FBI, and other government agencies. You will feel the heat and tension as you read and will become a part of this team that is truly a family. Of course there is clean romance and dedication to duty and God. Hallee Bridgeman has added another great story to the Love and Honor Series. I am eagerly watching for Honor’s Refuge!
This author is getting better by the book. The first book in the series blew me away, but this one has so many surprising events and heart-felt situations, I couldn’t put this book down.
This novel opens in Anchorage, Alaska, where readers are introduced to Lynda and her FBI partner, Jack. They were sent to pick up a person, they had a warrant for their arrest, as they thought about the Memorial Day weekend fun they planned. This was going to be a simple task, pick up the person protesting the oil pipeline, call it a night. They knock on the door asking about the person they needed. The situation quickly turns deadly, as things were not as they appeared.
Then readers are taken to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where Rick Norton’s A-team from book one, is on new mission. This story focuses on FBI Special Agent Lynda Culter, who is investigating an eco terrorist organization in Alaska, along with Bill-drumstick.
Lynda is asked to join the operation with the A-team as they go to Istanbul to take down, the organization who murdered her partner. She has no training in the field, but she’s the only one who has seen the top guy’s face to face.
I loved the natural spiritual thread as Lynda learns the customs and religion practiced in Istanbul. She searches her own soul as to what she believes. This is a fast-paced, story that will tug at your heart strings, with deep POV, plot twists, turns and a few surprises. This is a great thought-provoking escape and one that would work for your next book club pick. There is so much to talk about. The author includes twelve questions to spark lively discussions with your group. She even has included some fun recipes to make for your meeting. This novel and the author you won’t soon forget.

A lovely romantic suspense. Totally different from the first two, yet just as intriguing and exciting. I don’t know where this series will go next, but I can’t wait!!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Hallee Bridgeman does it again! While she is a newer author to me within the first chapter of the story I realized I had read the first book in the series and was drawn back to those characters and their stories. It was the perfect balance of the continuation of the story mixed with the new. The book would be strong on it's own, but already knowing the characters from the first story kept me captivated even more. It is a story or love, faith, patience, forgiveness, and a thriller all roled into one. I highly recommend this book!
Loved it! I am addicted to this series! Word of Honor is another riveting, action-packed story in the Love and Honor series. I could not put it down.
"What was Lynda Culter doing in Kuwait? More importantly, what was Lynda Culter doing in Kuwait wearing a hijab while consulting with his Special Forces A-Team commander? We last saw Sergeant Bill Saunders "Drumstick" in Honor Bound. He was recovering from a bullet to the chest. He is now recovered and back with his team on a new mission in Kuwait, only to find his college girlfriend on a joint assignment with his team. He broke up with her unkindly as a 19 year old college student not wanting her to know about his broken childhood. He has regrets. Now they have to pretend to be a married couple for this job. What could go wrong?
I love how both Lynda and "Drumstick" now have a relationship with God and pray often for direction in their personal lives and in their jobs. Lynda Culter is an FBI agent there to ID the Ecoterrorist she was hurt by, and her partner was brutally murdered by in Alaska as a part of a larger investigation. She excels at gathering information and analyzing. "Fear filled her mouth with a bad taste. what was she doing here? She didn't belong in the field, surrounded by covert operatives. She belonged in a cubicle with her notes and diagrams."
I got such a kick out of Bill's funny Southern expressions, and nicknames for others peppered throughout the story. "Let's go, Box of Underwear". "Clearly, he used humor to cope with stressful situations."
I cannot wait for the next book Honor's Refuge!
I highly recommend Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman for lovers of excellent romantic suspense.
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
Word of Honor is the second book in the Love and Honor series. While I think we did get to know the team a bit more in the first novel, I do think this could be read as a standalone as well.. though you'll certainly get some book one spoilers if read out of order.
In this book. we get to know Bill Sanders (Drumstick) better. Even in this first book, I got the impression that he had a good story to tell, so I was excited to learn more about him... and this did not disappoint. Second chance romances tend to be some of my favorites, so I really enjoyed seeing him reconnect with his college sweetheart. Lynda. I found the action in this one wasn't quite as nonstop as the first book. That's not to say there wasn't plenty of action though, there certainly was that... and plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing and reading on. Like the previous book, this was still more military heavy than I typically enjoy, though less so I think than book one. Either way, I found I enjoyed this one even more than the first!
Overall, this was a good read and one that fans of romantic suspense are sure to enjoy.
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
I loved this book. Lynda is a strong, competent woman who has had her heart shattered twice, but she doesn't wallow in misery. Bill has a past he is ashamed of, and he tends to define himself by his past instead of who he has become. Part of that past includes breaking Lynda's heart, and now they have to work together undercover as husband and wife.
The characters are well-drawn and likable. The plot is strong, and the emotions can be felt by the reader. I appreciate the respect the author gives the military and law enforcement. This is Christian fiction so there is a lot of prayer mentioned and God is discussed. However, it isn't preachy or forced. It feels like conversation Christians would have.
Family friendly, but with a lot of violence as is to be expected with a military based thriller.
FBI agent, Lynda Culter is just the woman needed to help uncover the plots of an ecoterrorist group and the Russian Mob. She has grit, perseverance, and a brilliant mind that help her to see connections where others cannot. It was interesting to see her map out the events the old fashioned way with paper instead of using a computer.
The team of special agents that Bill and Lynda are a part of were really fun to get to know. Their camaraderie and expertise made them the perfect team to destroy the plans of the criminals. Lynda is all business and is good at analytics while Bill is a man of action and has a great sense of humor too. He has funny sayings such as, “that’s as normal as bumps on a pickle.”
There was an extra bonus at the end of the books. Discussion questions for a book club as well as some Turkish recipes to try. The entrees look tasty and I am looking forward to making the falafel.
Danger, mixed with faith, create a terrific story that was enjoyable to read. I recommend this book if you enjoy books by similar authors such as Lynette Eason or Elizabeth Goddard.
I received a copy of this book from Revell through NetGalley. I was not expected to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Wow! Word of Honor, the second book in the Love and Honor Series is just as great as the first book, possibly even better. Hallee Bridgeman has outdone herself this time. Traveling across the world to stop a group of terrorists this is one action-packed Christian thriller.
FBI Special Agent Lynda Cutler is a capable operative no matter what role she needs to play to catch the villains. The Special Force team is all on board in this story to help her with the other joint government agency members too but this is Bill Sanders story. His childhood is revealed which explains. Lynda and Bill also have a history so this is also a second chance romance.
A major twist comes in the middle which I did not in any way see coming. Just goes to show how this story is so beautifully plotted. While the team is there this story is not tied to the first book at all so it read well as a stand-alone. Also it is a Christian romance suspense story so no bad language, gory details, or sex, just one great story. There are several references to Bible study and prayer but then this is a Christian novel so it was as expected which I enjoyed.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.
This book tugged at my heart immediately because from the first scene Lynda is in danger although she doesn’t really know it. She is an FBI agent in Alaska and she and her partner Jack Haynes are taken hostage by a radical environmental group that has been suspected of destroying pipelines. Throughout the book, Lynda goes from one dangerous situation to another and along the way encounters her former boyfriend from college, Bill. Bill left college suddenly and broke Lynda’s heart. Now he is part of an Alpha team with whom she is working in order to track down forces working internationally to set off bombs and destroy more oil pipelines. Lynda is an analyst while Bill is a warrior as well as an intuitive interrogator. Together, they make an formidable team, but their attraction to each other is undeniable. I enjoyed the chemistry between these two who had difficulty facing the past and looking forward to a new future together. The dialogue between the two was witty, especially Bill’s southern colloquialisms that had me laughing aloud at times. The action was tense as the two of them immersed themselves in the case, dedicated to the task at hand regardless of the threat to their lives. There were a lot of unexpected twists in the book which I thoroughly enjoyed since I did not see them coming. I liked the fast pace and the genuine emotion that was displayed both on and off the job. This is a dynamic page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat, with my pulse racing and sparking the need in me to see the romance between the two protagonists actually work. Brilliantly written with credible characters and intriguing action, this is a book that was both entertaining as well as believable and captivating. Faith plays an active part in Lynda and Bill’s lives and their heartfelt prayers together and separately were profoundly insightful into revealing more about their characters. The research was remarkable and led to a very satisfying and compelling suspense-filled book.

Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman had an interesting concept and suspense right from the opening chapter. Readers will be delighted to see the innerworkings and the laying of the plans and how they were going to intercorporate these elements into their plan. The weapons used were interesting to follow also. While the characters were uncover, they were trying to capture the bad guys, but the plot featured a lot of planning and moving around behind the scenes. Not many bullets flying or running from their lives. They visited a mosque three times a day for prayer, noticed the participates, and then returned nicely to their hotel rooms. If the characters are in a foreign country, eventually, something should give them away. Enough to have them on a run as they try to sabotage and capture the villains. On the other hand, the romance is between a pair of people who were in a relationship ten years ago, and now must be in a relationship again. Questions unanswered and emotions rekindled. Overall, Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman was too slow for a romantic suspense for my taste. I need more action.
I received a complimentary copy of Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
I read Word of Honor in two days. That should tell you everything you need to know. This book is a masterpiece. While the second in a brilliant series, the story also stands alone. But don't miss out. The first one is great too.
Book two features Bill Sanders, also known as Drumstick. Bill is one of those characters who leaps out of the pages and grabs our heart. A southern boy with all the charm in the world and an astonishing set of idioms. Truly astonishing.
FBI Special Agent Lynda Cutler is fighting ecoterrorism, and after her partner is murdered, travels to Istanbul to take the organization responsible for his death, down. Unfortunately, the man assigned to play the role of her husband is Army weapons expert Bill Sanders, the man who broke her heart in college.
This is the second book by Hallee Bridgeman that I've read. And the second one I've inhaled. The author has the ability to suck a reader in and hold their attention until the story is concluded. I loved the romance thread as two wounded souls are slowly repaired, the suspense thread that kept me guessing and made me gasp, and the spiritual contest which was also solid and inspiring.
Bring on book three. Quickly.
I received a copy of Word of Honor from Revell Books via Netgalley. The enjoyment was all my own.
Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is another spellbinding installment in the Love and Honor series. FBI Special Agent Lynda Cutler is still recovering from a devastating personal loss when she is brought in to work on a joint task force in Instanbul. She has been investigating an eco-terrorist organization in Alaska, and the clues have brought them to Turkey. As a female in a Muslim country, she will be able to investigate better and go more places if she is "married" and accompanied by a man. The only problem for her is when she is assigned to her undercover husband, it is the man who broke her heart in college, Bill Sanders, a U.S. Army weapons specialist. This makes the situation a little uncomfortable for both of them, but they are both professionals with a job to do, so they put their personal differences aside. I love this series because I love this group of elite soldiers that Bill is a part of. Their camaraderie with one another and love for one another as people, and as a team bleeds through the pages. You can just feel it in the story. Their nicknames for each man in the unit will make you laugh out loud. For example, Bill Sanders is know as Drumstick! The international intrigue and covert missions make this a very interesting book to read. There are several twists that will leave your mouth agape. The inspirational message is God honoring and reverent. the characters are great as usual. You do not have to read these books in order, but I do believe it will help clarify their backgrounds if you read them in order (this is book #2). I highly recommend that you read them all! This is a wonderful thriller/mystery, but it is also a story of forgiveness and leaving the past behind so you can move forward.
I really enjoyed getting to know Bill better in this second book of Love and Honor series. I love second chance romance trope so Bill's second chance with Lynda was truly delightful. Bill and Lynda's story is not brimming with action like the first book with Rick and Cynthia but has plenty of suspense as FBI and DoD piece together information to hunt down an ecoterrorist group. The story flows very differently from the first book but still has all the intensity and appeal, with intricately carved-out plot, gasp-worthy twists and turns, rock solid faith turning into action, and heart-fluttery romance. I do recommend you read the series in order to get the full impact. If you're a fan of romantic suspense, you will love this one.
Lynda, with her analytical intelligence and tenacity, is an easy heroine to love. Bill's ugly upbringing comes to light here but he's no less lovable; he's the perfect hero who is protective, loving, patient, God-fearing, and self-sacrificial. His faith is tangible and real as he struggles with his self-worth and acceptance. Catching up with Rick, Cynthia, and the rest of the special forces team was such a treat. Now I need to dive into the next book in the series!
I received the book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
Word of Honor is a very well written romantic suspense. A real edge of your seat page turner.. I throughly enjoyed this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
Bill and Lynda have history that makes pretending to be a married couple for a mission difficult - but the stakes are too high to refuse. An organisation called Green War is blowing up pipelines around the world, and things seem to be escalating. Lynda has already had a run-in with the leader and knows him and some of the group by sight, so when it is discovered that the orders are being sent using the wifi of a Turkish mosque, she's sent in with Bill to try to discover more about the organisation. But there's more at stake than anyone realised. Can they discover and foil the plots in time? And will they survive the mission - physically or emotionally?
Another great book in the series, with some mystery to uncover, plenty of suspense and action to keep you reading, and problems in the history of both Bill and Lynda that need dealing with separately and together before they can truly accept and appreciate what God has planned for them. One thing that bothered me a little was that Bill spends the first half of the book maintaining that people doing his job have no business being in a relationship or getting married because it messes with their heads - but when he began to fall for Lynda, I don't recall him questioning even once whether it was a problem from that point of view. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable and touching story, with messages of forgiveness and trust. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
