Susan May Warren knows suspense and romance. In her latest, SUNDOWN (the final book in the SKY King Ranch series), she deepens the suspense and gives the reader believable characters to cheer on—and maybe a bit of nail biting.
Both Tae and Colt can’t see beyond their own individual missions when they could and should be working together! The situations are serious enough—like a worldwide plague threat that begins on America’s soil, kidnappings, etc.
When I say action-packed, be prepared to spend a sleepless night or two until you finish the book!
If you haven’t read the first two books, fear not, you can still enjoy this book—although I plan to read all three books, now. I want to the backstory on the rest of the Kingston family!
If you love action, suspense, romance, and a thrill ride for the brain, then you’ll love SUNDOWN.
I received an eBook version of #SUNDOWN from Revell through #NetGalley for my honest review.
Susan May Warren has successfully wrapped up her Sky King Ranch trilogy with her fast paced novel, Sundown. Readers will want to make sure they have read the previous two books in this series as this finale begins right where the second book left off. And true to Warren's style, readers can expect tense action scenes, flawed characters seeking redemption, and simmering romance. With a message of purpose and the fight for justice, Warren delivers a story that will curl your toes and leave you begging for more! I guarantee you will not be able to put this book down!
I received this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Author Susan May Warren returns with an epic conclusion to the Kingston brothers saga! This newest release offers high-stakes action, a global threat and sizzling romance. Warren has created an exciting, can’t-put-down novel that had me on the edge of my seat, devouring the pages as quickly as possible… And I wouldn’t have expected anything less!
HIGHLIGHTS:
A Plane Crash · Global, Bio Weapon Threat · A Growing Romance · An Intelligent, Quiet Heroine · A Former Delta Force Hero · Strong Family Bond · Military Brotherhood · Exciting Changes of Location · A Rich Faith Message
WHAT I LIKED:
The entire culmination of this story and series is fantastic! As a long-time fan of Warren’s books, I found Sundown offered heroic, skilled and multi-layered characters who are easy to love plus an exhilarating plot.
In book one, Sunrise, Warren laid the foundation for this story while building on it in book two, Sunburst. Sundown delivers a fast-paced, yet heartwarming story that is rich in drama, suspense, faith and romance! The heart-pounding action in this story begins right at the beginning and carries through to the end. Warren expertly ties the global threat of a smallpox outbreak between the states of Alaska, Washington and Florida, taking readers on a thrilling adventure through all three locations. The novel unfolds in a balanced way that kept me incredibly intrigued and invested.
Warren also brings back characters from not only book one and two of the Sky King Ranch series, but surprises her devoted readers with the return of beloved characters from her Global Search and Rescue series and a handful of her past releases. There is light banter, rich patriotism and a strong brotherhood in this story as the friends and teams work together towards the neutralization of a common enemy.
I really enjoyed the character growth that Colt Kingston undergoes. He’s always struggled with the need to never stop moving, to act before he thinks and to be the one who never shows fear. His Delta Force background empowers him, but also acts as the catalyst for some of the things that haunt him. He doesn’t believe he’s worthy of the love God freely gives and it takes the interest of a sweet, intelligent woman and his dear family to help him soften towards the gospel message. In the mix is a tender romance that blooms between him and Tae with moments of sparking chemistry.
Tae’s character blossoms as well, opening readers to a peek inside her heart and who she is at her core center - a deeply relatable woman who has always preferred to be alone and maintain a tight control over her life in order to protect her heart.
Lastly I enjoyed the abundant wisdom shared in passing conversation between characters as well as the strong message of saving faith that Warren delivers at closing as she wraps up this amazing story and series.
SUMMARY:
This is a must-read! I highly recommend reading this series in order of release to really enjoy the culmination of the series and understand the connection between the brothers and other characters. This novel can read as a standalone if a reader so desires. If you love action, adventure, faith and romance, then do not miss this story!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to post a positive review.
Colt Kingston grew up with his dad, sister Lark and 2 brothers, Dodge and Ranger. Their Mom passed away when he was little, he always blamed himself because he was with her and did nothing to help. He grew up never feeling like he was "good enough". So he became the man and the soldier who always ran into danger head first without any thought about how his action would affect him. He always put everyone else ahead of himself. He was now a former military and worked for his friend, Hamilton Jones, he has a private security firm that handles SAR (search and rescue) missions that the military and our government won't touch. The last mission was to free aid workers who had been kidnapped in Nigeria, he along with his brother Ranger ( Ranger also worked with Hamilton) were successful in freeing the aid workers. But it came at a cost. Colt had created a diversion while Ranger and the workers got free. The diversion was Colt causing a ruckus that got him beaten to within an inch of his life.
When Colt arrived home in Alaska he needed round the clock care, between his family and a woman whom Dodge and Echo( his fiance') rescued in the snow, he did heal. The woman did not talk, not one word. She was caring and patient with Colt and sat by his side for weeks taking care of him. He took to calling her Flo (Florence Nightingale) because they did not know her name.
While Tae continues to care for Colt as he gets stronger she decides that it is time to tell them her story. That story consists of a Russian mobster and bio weapons, and realizing that he is after Tae. Colt is determined to keep her safe, with his brother's and Hamilton Jones they do just that. And Colt and Tae start to realize that they really care for one another. But is it enough? Will they let God work in their lives and bring them together?
Thank you, Susan May Warren for allowing me to be a part of this launch team ( so that I am late). This is a story that had me routing for them from page one.
Action packed! Strong characters that bring you to the edge of your seat!
Tae felt that the whole world's existence rested on her shoulders. Colt felt that his worth was based on how dangerous was the mission. Both had much to learn after combining their efforts to fight the enemy.
I enjoyed the book and reading how the family pulled together to keep each other safe. This is the 3rd book of the Sky King Ranch Series. All three books were enjoyable, fast-paced and page turners.
I received this ebook from Revell to review.
**4.5/5 Stars**
Susan May Warren is my favorite author of the romantic suspense genre. Hands down. I can always depend on her books to capture me. Wrap me in their plots and characters and not loosen their holds until reaching the conclusion. Sundown is no exception. My only regret is I wish I’d read the other two books in the “Sky King Ranch” series more recently, rather than a good while ago. While Sundown by Susan May Warren can stand on its own, it hints at snippets from its prequels, and I couldn’t remember many of them. Colt and Taylor are both broken people. Through the help of friends, family, and God, they find new life. Peace. Joy.
Colt sees little value in his own life. He always takes the risks and throws himself into danger because he does not think his life matters. Not really. Everyone else’s lives matter more, so sure, he’ll jeopardize his life for someone else’s. Some might call him a hero for that, but Colt does not see it that way. I loved everything about Colt. He may be my favorite of the Kingston brothers if I had to choose one. He’s one of the individuals who often does the right things for the wrong reasons. Throughout Sundown, however, his friends and family pour into him and lead him to the truth—that he is loved. Not just by his family but by an incredible God.
Taylor puts the weight of the world on her shoulders. Yes, she’s a doctor, and yes, her brain may have the clues to a vaccine. Regardless, Taylor pressures herself to do more. Be better. And she will do it herself; that way, no one else will get hurt. Colt won’t take that for an answer, so he follows her. Through the thorniest brambles and the darkest caves to face her giants. She never gives up. Not necessarily because of her resolve but because she knows the world depends on her.
The only reason I did not give this novel five stars: Taylor. I did not like her, nor did I find her occupation believable. Nothing about her screams “doctor” to me. Now, I know you cannot put all in the medical profession in a box. But she seems be more of how a writer would write a doctor character versus how a doctor would be in real life.
I loved Sundown by Susan May Warren. It is the perfect conclusion to her “Sky King Ranch” series, and I cannot wait until she publishes another book. I’ll be waiting on pins and needles!
A pulse racing adventure that brings together the Kingston brothers in a race against the clock to protect the woman with the antidote to a deadly biological weapon threatening humanity.
Colt Kingston knows that there is more to Tae than meets the eye, she is slowly regaining her memories, and parts of her story are checking out. Can he trust her when he doesn't know what she is hiding?
A riveting conclusion to a fantastic series, I loved how it brought the brothers together, in this satisfying cross country adventure, filled with adventure and intrigue. There are also strong themes of faith, and I liked how Tae and Colt come to trust each other and work together over the course of the book.
Overall, a thrilling read with excellent interaction and dialogue, adventure, faith, and romance. A must read for fans of the series, and it will pay off to read them in order. Definitely recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
An exciting end to the series. I was so glad to see the resolution of this brotherhood and the forgiveness they found for each other and themselves.
As usual this book is full of suspense, action, bravery, sacrifice, and heroism. I really loved Colt even if he was awfully reckless with his own health. I loved that he was always ready to be there and protect Taylor. But I thought Taylor was the real star. I loved her survival instincts and her intelligence combined with her medical knowledge.
You definitely should read this series in order but on a technicality it does work as a standalone you just won't know any of the backstory.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
While I really enjoyed book 1 and 2 in the Sky King Ranch Series, this one wasn't for me. I did enjoy the faith and action in this book - plus seeing characters from previous books was awesome. However, I just couldn't get on with the plot in this story and it was so heavy in the medical / science jargon that I was pulled out of the story. 2 stars
This is book 3 in the Sky King Ranch series with our main characters of Colt and Tae. We do get to see Echo, Dodge, Ranger and Noemi, which is nice as well and more of my favorite parts as they are characters from the previous books.
Colt is Dodge and Ranger's brother, so we are really seeing the Kingston brother's in action here. I really like the action parts of this book but sometimes it's a bit over the top -- still really engaging though.
This book centers around Tae - she is someone that was rescued on the Kingston brother's property in an Alaskan blizzard. They found a crashed plane that she survived with 1 person dead inside but 1 also missing. Her tale of survival is hard to believe so she isn't really trusted at first. That is, until those she claims were hunting her show up at Sky King Ranch causing trouble and all her secrets come to light --- things take off from here.
Tae is basically an infectious disease specialist / research doctor. She says there was an old ancient variant of Smallpox that has come up and could kill the world so she must be the one to save the world with her vaccine she created. The plane has Russians on board and all her notes about her vaccine and disease research were on the plane that crashed. She must start over to create her vaccine to save the world from this "airborne virus" that people "don't know they are infected with for weeks" sometimes and is "very dangerous". They question if the Russians trying to use the virus as a bio-weapon etc.
Colt is trying to protect Tae and they start building a relationship as they are trying to figure out everything together. I wasn't crazy about their relationship - just didn't connect with them much.
So where this fell flat for me is this book being primarily about saving the world from a virus with a vaccine. I feel like the COVID plotline was being told and I'm personally over reading and hearing about viruses and vaccines that it impacted the reading experience for me personally. While it was an action packed suspenseful story and keeps readers engaged, there was a lot of medical and science jargon I didn't really understand. I was just bogged down a lot with the descriptions.
Overall, this series is a really good series in book 1 and 2, but I just wasn't a fan of book 3. I am excited to pick up more Susan May Warren books though in the future. Thank you to Baker Publishing and NetGalley for a copy to honestly read and review.
Susan May Warren pulls out all the stops in this third and final novel in the Sky King Ranch series. Readers get an up-close and personal look into Former Delta Operative Colt Kingston and why it seems he has a death wish.
Colt is committed to do what is necessary to protect Tae as they race to save the world from biological warfare. Readers learn about Colt and Tae’s backstory, through this fast-paced, high stake, action thriller
I enjoyed the splash of romance and how this story brings family together. I liked the natural spiritual thread throughout this series. I was encouraged by what the author says to readers, “I hope, in this series, you’ve been reminded of the incredible grace and second chances that the Lord offers. You are never without hope, without redemption, without the day when you embrace redemption, put the past behind you, and start a new….Live in Freedom. Live in Hope. Live in Joy. The view is glorious.”
This is an over-the-top, heart-felt, chilling novel that explores something that could very well happen. This book is a wonderful conclusion to this series (that can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you start with book one, for a rich back story). This was an exciting read I couldn’t put down.
It’s a fun escape and one that would work well for your next book club pick. There is so much to talk about.

I was looking forward to Colt’s book ever since I have read book one in the Sky King Ranch series. Up until book 3 we learned that Colt was a person who did not shy away from adventure and danger. If someone would step up and take the risk, it would be him. But I also knew there should be more under what he allows others to see, and I was right.
The action and suspense continue from book one and two in this series, and links to The Epic Story of RJ and York. So, it is best to read all the books in order. To get the full picture of the suspense plot, all books published by this author, starting with Knox, should be read in order of publishing.
I loved the fast-moving suspense and action, never knowing what will happen on the next page. What slowed the book down for me was the scientific talk of viruses and vaccines – it was needed for authenticity of the story, but for me it went a bit over my head and lost my interest.
I would have loved a lot more scenes between the three brothers and hope to see him in future stories.
A great conclusion to a great series.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
This was an exciting rollercoaster ride of a read!
It featured all three of the Kingston brothers but the main focus was Colt. I just love how this author combines the exciting and thrilling action of tough guys winning out but also talks about the softer side of these guys. I also really appreciate that the author talks about how guys in the forces put their lives on the line, for the rest of us. They run into danger, on purpose. However, if something happens and they are no longer able to do so, what then?
This book also helped me personally. I have been in turmoil for the past month, having been given notice to vacate my home of 12 years, unexpectedly. I am now handing my worries to God, because He has a plan for me. All the worrying in the world isn't going to change that. So, things will work out the way they are meant to. I needed the reminder and I got it! Thanks :)
Thank you, Susie May Warren, for writing such lovely books :)
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Revell.
Sundown is the final installment in Susan May Warren’s Sky King Ranch trilogy. I’ve been eagerly waiting for Colt and Tae’s story since Colt was introduced to us with the Kingston triplets in the first book, Sunrise. We got a bit more of Colt and Tae in book 2, Sunburst, but their story comes to a full and satisfactory conclusion in Sundown.
Colt Kingston is determined to get to the bottom of Taylor–Tae–Price’s story. His brother Dodge and Dodge’s fiancee, Echo, found Tae in a blizzard in book 1, Sunrise. She suffered amnesia and wasn’t speaking for a long time. Once Tae remembered some things, she was too terrified to speak. When she does tell her story, it’s almost too preposterous to be believed.
Tae knows her tale sounds crazy, but it’s true, every word. When her past follows her and endangers the whole Kingston family, she has to leave to keep them safe. Too bad Colt can’t let her go alone.
Adventure, suspense, and intrigue follow to the nail-biting conclusion. Another worthy addition to the Warren tradition of romantic adventure stories with strong and determined heroines and the wounded but willing men who love them.
I love Warren’s stories and Sundown was worth waiting for. I love the twists and turns. I love the interconnecting stories and cross-over characters. I love how a story thread that Warren started stitching in book 1 will complete a lovely pattern in the final book. Although each book can be read as a stand alone, I think they’re enjoyed more if read in order. And since all 3 are available, why not? I highly recommend this book and the whole series!

I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley, but that did not induce me to leave a review, favorable or not.
Sundown, by Susan May Warren, is a story you will not soon forget!
In the wilds near Denali National Park, Colt Kingston and Tea Price locate the plane that crashed while Tea was inside. Colt does not quite believe her story about the incident; however, he can’t not quite put the pieces together either. All Tae knows is that she needs to retrieve her backpack containing a notebook filled with notes concerning her work. Colt finally encourages her to confess what her work involves. Tae is a scientist who thinks the world is about to be infected with an ancient form of smallpox!
You will soon see all three Kingston brothers get involved with trying to head off this travesty. Details about each brother’s life will be shared in the midst of this activity. The situation is much more complicated than you would ever have imagined. This is definitely a typical Susan May Warren tale, full of the unknown and nonstop action!
Hold fast for an ending you would never imagine!
Susan May Warren delivers again with an incredible action-packed, adrenaline filled tale complete with romance and unexpected plot twists. Sundown, the conclusion to her Sky King Ranch series is everything I hoped it would be and more. This is a series that you definitely want to read in order to get the maximum enjoyment and understanding of the storyline and characters. I have been wanting to read Colt Kingston's story ever since book 1, and it was the perfect conclusion to the series.
Fans of Susan May Warren's books will love the cameo appearances of members of the Caleb Group, the Montana Marshalls, and the Jones, Inc. team members. I love how the author incorporates previous characters into her current novels and how the characters overlap into various storylines. She really makes the characters come to life and feel like friends.
With topics relevant to today's society, such as a dangerous virus (not COVID) quickly turning deadly and the rush to stop its spread, and the beautiful faith element ever present in her novels, readers will not want to put this book down! The author has a phenomenal way of intertwining various storylines together in a way that readers will not see coming. Sundown is highly recommended for readers of action packed romantic suspense and contemporary romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
This last book in the Sky King Ranch series is one wild ride, from Alaska to Seattle to Florida. Sundown in Colt's story, former Delta Special Ops soldier. He is the third triplet of the Kingston brothers and my favorite of the three. He is a fun guy who is trouble but is really hurting inside. He has regrets and feels unworthy. In the first book, Dodge and Echo find a woman stranded in the wilds, almost frozen. She lets them know that she doesn't know who she is and cannot talk. But really, she is afraid. When Colt is injured in Nigeria in the second book, he returns home, and she is staying at the Kingston ranch. She takes care of Colt, and he calls her Flo (Florence Nightingale). Flo is really Taylor, a doctor who works with deadly viruses and is being sought after by bad Russians. She is also hurting and recently burnt by a conniving Russian who claimed to care for her. This has a complicated plot that involves all three brothers, lots of former soldiers, and people tied to the higher ups in the US government. Ranger and Noemi's story carries over into this story heavily. Action, danger, suspense, romance, and faith are all qualities that make a Susan May Warren book so exciting and great. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing and NetGalley. All thoughts are mine only.
Sundown
by Susan May Warren
Book 3 in the Sky King Ranch series
Rating: 4/5
Such a fun conclusion to this series! It’s full of romance, action, and adventure that will make you keep turning the pages. I do think it probably needs to be read after the first two books. They are also worth reading so I highly recommend them too.
First, the cover is gorgeous. All of the covers in this series are beautiful.
Second, the story kept my interest and sucked me in from the very beginning.
Third, the clean romance between the two main characters was great. Such fleshed out characters that are relatable.
Fourth, the author always manages to weave in her faith with power moments of truth. Such a great addition to the story.
Highly recommend if you enjoy Christian romantic suspense that is entertaining and action-packed!
My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
Sundown is a fantastic thrilling ride through the world of terrorists and the people who protect our world from them. The Kingston family will grab your heart and hold on!
Susan May Warren is the author who introduced me to Christian fiction and I will always be grateful. Her books are exciting, faith filled and always educate me about incredible places and occupations. And I have kept record of so many quotes from her books, they would fill a book of their own.
This is the third of the Sky King Ranch series. The family of Kingston men have been a protective unwavering faithful group. Their women have been equally as intelligent, strong and resourceful.
This story of Colt and Tae is adventure along with a sweet romance.
Great series, sorry to see it end. But if I know Susie May, we’ll see these characters again!
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.
Wow, this Kingston family. They are really something else. What I love about this series is we get all the family in each book. While each one may focus on one individual more than the others, they are all still there, part of the story and part of the family. I feel like I know them and am connected to them. I think it's pretty important to read this series in order. There are individual stories within a growing, overarching story.
I was excited to get to Colt. I knew there would be a lot to unpack there. Between him and Tae, there is SO MUCH. Colt is a jump right in kind of guy. He goes with his instincts and is quick to defend and protect. Tae really needs someone like him to depend on. I loved how their story unfolds through the series and how it really gains momentum in this book. It was so satisfying.
The story brings mystery, action, suspense, romance and danger on every page. It is fast paced and exciting which is exactly how this author writes and I love it. I've loved hanging with the Kingston family. They aren't perfect, they are all fighting physical, mental and emotional demons but they are solid. They are strong and they keep trying. They stand up for right and they fight hard when they need to. It's pretty awesome.
Content: peril, violence, death. Kissing. Christian elements.
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the final book in the Sky King Ranch series. I do recommend reading the whole series for it to make sense. It was an action packed read and ties into several of other Warren's series.
My only comment in relation to the book is the ending of Dodge's story. I don't want to give away spoilers but I feel that it's a little outside the realms of possibility. That said, I read books to escape and while it took me out of the story to make think about it, it didn't ruin the book for me.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and it was nice to finish off the series and for Colt (the main character) to have a story.
