I watched and loved the movie so of course I needed this in my life! I always adore companion books about the worlds we know and love and this one did not disappoint! The writing style by Miss Peregrine is what really made this book! I honestly wish more popular fantasy series would get books like this one, they’re just such a fun little extra!
The perfect lore and companion guide for lovers of the Miss Peregrine series and enjoyers of the Peculiar. It was nothing complex but they were good stories and wonderful pictures. As always, the pictures make everything better.
This was a wonderful companion to the Miss Peregrine's series. I fist saw the movie and loved it so much that I had to read the books. This is one you wont want to miss as well. Such a delight.
4/5 stars, I love additions to worlds like this
Thank you to Penguin Young Readers Group & Dutton Books for Young Readers l for the arc through netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I read the first three books in Miss Peregrine's a long time ago and was absolutely in love with them, but the second trilogy didn't feel the same for me. However, the add-on books (peculiar Tales and this book) that have come out in recent years have been pretty fun. I always love when a series releases a sort of guide to the world and some parts of it, so this was perfect for me.
While I did learn some new things in this book, like how they classify peculiars and the history of some of the peculiar events, this was mostly repeated information. I didn't really mind this because it was nice to review some of the history and what has happened. I really liked learning about some important peculiar people and places. It was also fun to read some of the little footnotes.
[TW: death of a friend mentioned, murder mentioned, kidnapping mentioned]
An interesting companion to Ransom Riggs Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series. The collection of articles, factual tidbits, and photos will be appreciated by lovers of the books. New readers are advised to pick up the other novels first as there may be spoilers inside this text. Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders is great for learning more about the universe of the original books. I would, however, recommend Tales of the Peculiar to readers first as it contains actual short stories, but many readers will still enjoy this more encyclopedic styled book.
If you are a fan of the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children series, then this book is for you! I had so much fun reading this and getting to know the ins and outs of the peculiar world. This book was also incredibly well made. I loved how this book was written by Miss Peregrine herself and that there were annotations throughout the story. It was great to return to this world in a whole new way!
This was an interesting addition to the Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children series. I enjoyed all the images that were included and the information on different types of peculiar and such. It was fun getting a little more background. I liked the little annotations from Miss Peregrine that were included throughout the book, but at the beginning, it was mentioned that Jacob could add things in too. I wish there had been more from Jacob. It felt like there was very little from him even though it was mentioned that he could annotate it. I feel like if it's mentioned like that then there should have been a little more of him. Bring his personality and expertise into certain things. So I felt like it was lacking in that department, but overall, it was an enjoyable and exciting read. If you liked the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children series, I think you'll enjoy this one.
Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders brings me back to the rich world created by Riggs and somehow (though not that old) gives me a strong feel of nostalgia. I adore this series and the Museum of Wonders book really expands upon the world that so many love and adore. I highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group, Dutton Books for Young Readers, for this chance to read this book in exchange of an honest review.
If you love Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series, this book is a must read. A story, a collection of information written by Miss Peregrine herself. This book is rich, lush and a funny guide of the peculiar world, perfect for fans and new readers, perfect for everyone, to be honest. From how to blend in, how to visit, this guide brings the readers in fascinating places, meeting incredible people and famous and infamous names.
The sytyle is, like always, captivating, hilarious and compelling and I love how much this world is expanded, with vintage photos, seppia imagines and the feeling of being there with them.
Absolutely to read and to recommend.
MISS PEREGRINE’S MUSEUM OF WONDERS by Ransom Riggs
If you’re not familiar with the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children books, I’ll give you a quick rundown. The Peculiars have paranormal abilities, but they come in all shapes and sizes (some abilities verge on the bizarre). Don’t think X-Men - it’s nothing like that. They’re outcast and they have enemies (no spoilers). They’re children (kind of, anyway – it’s complicated). It’s haunting, especially the way the author uses old photographs in the books (it adds another layer for sure). It’s been ages since I’ve read these books and I’m due for a reread. The thing is, they’re FUN. Yes, I had to use caps.
This book is not a story per se but a book outside of the series that describes the different kind of peculiars and what makes them unique. It also provides other interesting bits of information about them, what they do for fun, how they deal with the “criminals” among them, how they avoid detection, what happens if/when they fall in love with a “normal” - the list goes on). It’s written like a textbook or field guide for new arrivals. It’s all the little things that fill in the holes and flesh out what peculiars are all about. You know, the things you didn’t realize you needed to know but totally did. I would start with book one, but would definitely continue on and add this one into the mix.
I may not be as peculiar as these characters (not even close, unfortunately) but I’m quite peculiar in my own way, like many of you, possibly. And I think that’s the whole (obvious but salient) point to these books. There are many of us that are or sometimes feel like we’re peculiar and that we’re a species of our own but maybe that’s not such a bad thing (or always a bad thing). There is freedom in learning to accept the kind of person you are, in allowing yourself to be different.
These are PERFECT for the fall/Halloween season. And no, I haven’t seen the movies, which is a shame because I am a huge Eva Green fan (she was amazing in Penny Dreadful).
Thank you @netgalley and @duttonbooks for the #gifted copy.

Don't go into this book expecting this to expand on the entire narrative of the Miss Peregrine's series. This is similar to "Fire & Blood" by Martin in that it is an encyclopedia of everything peculiar! It is a great companion book for those who are fans of the original books and will enhance your understanding of Riggs's vast world. The writing is witty and entertaining! Having previous knowledge of the series is essential but Riggs keeps the eeriness of the main series and provides a beautiful guide to the peculiar world. It is definitely a must-have on the shelves of those who love this odd and wonderful world.
STOP now if you haven’t read any of the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children’s books.
This book was hard to rate/review because it is not a story, but more an encyclopedia of the characters and peculiars from Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. It is a companion book to the series, not part of it. It is perfect for people who are very familiar with the series and want to check back in with the world.
It is written in a similar style as the series with the old black and white photographs of people.
It is a very creative and fun read if you have read the books. If not, you won’t understand the references and there will be spoilers.
3.25 ⭐️ rounded down. It’s a super fun companion novel to the larger Peculiar series. That being said, there is no real story here it is just more lore and peculiar world building so if you have not already read the Miss Peregrine’s series do NOT start here because there will be spoilers for the larger series, and you won’t have a connection to the characters and so the fun footnotes from Miss Peregrine will lose much of their charm. If you have already read the series and want a fun fast read to just dip a toe back in this world and get some more fun old timey photos in the process, this is FOR YOU.
I'd love to interview Ransom Riggs on my podcast, Raise Your Words. Currently I've interviewed Annika Sharma, Priyanka Taslim, and Intisar Khanani. I've been a fan of the Miss Perigrine's series for a while. This was a fun guide to the Peregrine world.
This is such a fun insider scoop to the world of Ms Peregrine’s! I enjoyed re-emerging myself in the lore and reading from Ms. Peregrine’s point of view. Ransom Riggs continues to write some incredible work in this world he has created.
I absolutely love Miss Peregrine. The entire series and this book bought me straight back to when I first started the series the nostalgia is real and I blew through this book. Definitely reccomend
