Very rushed and chaotic. There are so many things happening it is overwhelming. Lots of telling and explaining.

The writing starts off very stilted and robotic. I almost DNF'd right there after the first chapter.

The word "strange" is used 7 times to describe an opening scene of about 2 pages. Enough for me to notice it.

[[Just out of curiosity, I checked how many times "strange/ly" etc is used throughout the whole book (kindle counts it automatically).. 95 times/194 pages!]]

Unfathomable Chance was an interesting read. It follows Diana a recent college graduate who suddenly finds herself to be the unwilling next Empress of the Universe. Diana’s goal is to get the bracelet proclaiming her of this position removed while getting caught up solving the death of the previous Empress that was originally thought to be suicide.

This book ended up being a lot different than I expected and that wasn’t a bad thing. I enjoyed the main cast a lot and found Diana to be a very like able and level headed character despite the multiple weird and sometimes scary things that happened to her and her friends. I did have a hard time keeping track of all the various characters outside the main cast and their positions in the world. Despite that I still enjoyed the story and I liked the creativity the babel stone provided the story with.

Solid sf&f plot with a satisfying ending, but left wide open for sequel. I would definitely enjoy reading more about Diana’s adventures with her spaceman. Clean language, sweet sensually level.
