Ok… the girl Selina in this book is CRAZY, Like cra-cra crazy, And I had no idea how crazy she was until pretty much the end. (That is all that I will reveal for the book… you just have to read it). And I loved it! There are so many evil people in this book. It’s so well written and so “OMG I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING”. It just hit all the marks for me. I stayed up late to finish it because I NEEDED to know what happened in the end. And the end was so good, that my mind is still thinking about it. Things that make you go hmmmmmm…..This. Book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Four pregnant women arrive at the opening of a new luxury retreat for a prenatal yoga weekend. The idyllic country spa is run by a husband and wife team with a teenage son and with the help of a Gardner. That’s it for characters .With short chapters and multiple POVs we know something really bad will happen. But to whom by whom? Secrets and tempers flare, storms appear, seams crack and we go from a sanctuary to a catastrophe. Eccellent!
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.
This is my first book by this author (though I’ve had some checked out from the library I haven’t gotten around to yet) and I was pleasantly surprised. The working flowed well, the dialogue felt natural, and the story moved at a good pace. Very little was repetitive but it didn’t pull me away from the story. Instead I stayed up way too late on a weeknight to finish the book.

This was a moderately fast paced thriller. I constantly needed to read just one more chapter because I needed to know what was going to happen next in the story! There were so many details I couldn't have predicted. I really enjoyed how the story unfolded.
The book is told from multiple POV. I love that. The chapters were not too long not too short. They were like goldilocks JUST right!
I couldn't have guessed the ending. (I don't typically guess the ending so if I can you know it was obvious)

I'd recommend this book and mark it is as a BUY or BARGAIN on the scale of Buy, Bargain, Borrow, Bud (audio) or Bust. (And yes I came up with the scale. I'm oddly proud of it!)
Sisters Nicky and Bonnie along with Georgina and Poppy are in Devon for a three day yoga retreat for pregnant women put on by Selina and her husband Will. There's some tension, sure, as the women get to know one another (and in Nicky and Bonnie's case, deal with family issues) but then.....This is told from seven different perspectives, which is, for me at least, too many. That said, it did make the pages turn as each character had their own insight into the events that turn the weekend into something less than idyllic (to put it mildly). This didn't shock me but it did surprise me- always a good thing. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good travel or beach read.
I really enjoyed this one! The characters and writing really drew me in, and I loved the short chapters + multiple POVs. I also didn't see the ending coming. Overall, a great thriller!
I am a huge Charlotte Duckworth fan ever since I read Unfollow Me I always check to see when her newest book will be out. I have yet to give one of her books less than five stars. They all are page turning, suspenseful and full of intrigue.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers because if I say too much I will! Four pregnant women go to a remote wellness retreat for some pampering. But each one has no clue the others all hold secrets. Especially the host Selina. You suspect everyone of everything and as things get more creepy you wonder what this is really all about. You will have to read it to find out.
Wow! I read this book in a matter of hours. It had so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I couldn’t wait to finish to see how it all ended. I will definitely be reading other books by this author and will be recommending, The Sanctuary, in Goodreads and Facebook groups. Bravo!!
Thank you for an advanced copy #Netgalley for an honest review.
Hooked from the begining.
Just the right amount of characters.
I never correctly guessed what was going on.
This book is about a few pregnant ladies staying at a wellness retreat to relax.
A nail-biter of a thriller. Four pregnant women go away for the opening weekend of a luxury prenatal resort. Nicky is an older mom (42) unexpectedly pregnant for the third time. Her much younger step-sister Bonnie suggests the retreat and Nicky agrees, partly hoping to find out who the father of Bonnie's baby is. Georgia is a lifestyle reporter who will hopefully write up a good review of the retreat. Poppy is a mysterious woman on a mission, mourning the loss of a baby not all that long ago. The owner of the retreat, Selina, is a midwife and has secrets of her own. Her husband Will is there, as well as her creepy son Kai. Mysterious and menacing events start happening, causing a sense of unease and dread. I think any one who has ever been pregnant will really feel this tension on a different level, because being pregnant is such an incredibly vulnerable time. Well-written, kept my attention throughout.
Thank you Hachette Book Group, Quercus and NetGalley for an early copy of The Sanctuary!!!!! Whoa!!!!! Sooooooo many twists and turns, like riding a roller coaster!!! Great plot, characters and an ending you never saw coming. Enjoy this novel, you will Not want to stop reading it.
A good twisty thriller full of surprises, that I didn't figure out right away. Kept me interested and read in one sitting.
What a great story!! This book checked all the boxes for me .. a rural setting that created an almost locked room mystery with multiple intersecting storylines. I was kept guessing right until the end and was so intrigued i read the book on one day !!
I really enjoyed this book! It hooked me from the very first chapter, and kept me hooked the entire time!
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Hachette Book Group and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Amazing! Ultra satisfying, intense, suspenseful, twisted and hard to put down.
A Really AWESOME twisty book. 4 pregnant women head to the grand opening of a new Yoga Sanctuary designed for expecting moms to enjoy a spa weekend. Owner Selina is skittish, nervous but determined to make it a weekend they won't forget. Georgina is there at no cost to promote the program as an influencer, Nicky and her sister Bonnie are trying to mend family bridges, and Poppy - her reasons are a bit twisted and damning. As the hours fly by, more and more haunting events take place and secrets are revealed! WIll this be their sanctuary?
Well written, a little of a stretch but great fun ! I recommend to all that love the vacation gone wrong, a domestic thriller, or stories about secrets to kill for! #Hachette #NetGalley
It's hard to review this book without giving spoilers, but total Nine Perfect Strangers vibes. A wellness retreat for pregnant women doesn't go as planned when everyone's secrets come out. I read it in one sitting. A page turner!
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
Every book this author writes is twisted and this one extra-satisfyingly so. Pregnancy is a mother and these ladies have lost the plot! Delightfully creepily weird. .
Four pregnant women, Georgia, Bonnie, Nicky and Poppy all go on a yoga retreat to be pampered! Their host, Selina, is excited because Georgia is a journalist and Selina is hoping for some great feedback. What can go wrong? Absolutely everything! All of them have something to hide and yes, it is juicy!! Someone dies but you have to read to find out who and why?
Overall, this was an entertaining and fast-paced book that I read in a days time. I will not say I was completely shocked by the outcome, but it didn't deter my enjoyment from the book. This was my second book by Charlotte Duckworth and I look forward to her future works.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hatchette Book Groups, Quercus for my review copy.
