9% into this book and he's already in love and wants her to stay in town forever. Highkey golden retriever energy, if I'm being honest.
Read this book if you're into that but it just felt a bit underdeveloped for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC
The book was promising, but I did not fall in love with the story. The main good things about the book. It's not often that you see with a black female lead with knowledge about motorcycles and in that type of a nontraditional position. It kinda came across as an enemies to loves story, but Dawson made it hard to like her character. She was mad at Tulley for something that he was not aware of, nor was it his fault and it was for about 80% of the book. It was like she expected him to read her mind. The story line did seem to get better after that, but at that point, it was near the end of the story.
I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
The cutest enemies to lovers I have every read. This book was a mixture of good rom-com and steam.
I was so into the book that I could literally feel and see their emotions as the story proceeded.
I love interracial romance and this book was everything that I need.
The main lead Dawson Shay Tully Faulkner are absolutely adorable and i could relate with them very much.
Even though I didn't liked the insta love vibe, but the enemies to lovers vibe that was going on with the main leads had be hooked.
Thank you Netgally for the arc in exchange of honest review.
Tinkering with Love by Aliyah Burke is a sweet and steamy romcom about two characters who fall into an insta-love while also being enemies to lovers. Although maybe one doesn't know why they are enemies. The author puts them in funny forced proximity situations which has the reader laughing out loud. She introduces the reader to a lot of characters as she establishes the small town and sets up possible future books. Overall a good read!
This was a cute “Enemies” to lovers book and it has the potential for multiple spin offs within the friend group. If there are more books in the series I will probably read them. The only thing I did not really care for was the Indra love feel to the book.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this ARC. I am leaving an honest review voluntarily.
The story of Dawson and Tully. Dawson has uprooted her whole life for a job that was given to someone else and a flat that burnt down. Now she is stuck on a company retreat, with the person who stole her job. He has made it clear he wants her but will she give him a chance?
Great read, looking forward to reading more from this author.
I wanted to love this book because that cover is definitely a hook for my liking and craving of romance stories. But unfortunately this one felt flat in so many places and I felt very disappointed.
I haven’t read any books by the author either but I will give it another try in the future
Dawson travel across country to get her dream job of rebuilding motorcycles, only to find that the position has been given to someone else, and she is offered the position of managing the repair shop. Tully is a former NHL professional player, and the town local boy. When the company head off to the wilderness for a company retreat, Tully decided to win Dawson over with his charm, but he has his hands full, as Dawson does not make it easy for him, but the sparks fly between them. This is a well written story which is fun, humorous, and with witty banter, secrets, tension, and is an entertaining small-town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.

Tinkering with Love was amazing, y'all. It was sweet, funny, romantic, sexy, and full of banter. I loved the writing and the characters. Tully was amazing. I loved his sunny and positive personality. He was so sweet and loving and fought for what he wanted. I really connected with Dawson and saw a bit of myself in her character. Those two were a match made in heaven. Complete opposites that somehow managed to complete each other.

this story is based around Dawson a female machinic love a bit of girl power in a book and also very refreshing to have in a book .she loves her job and works hard to build on her career , then you Tully a handsome cool guy easy going who comes along ended up with the job Dawson really wanted , they end up going on the same team building week away , which for Tully he head over heels for Dawson , but Dawson little more should I say stand- offish and stubborn . Tully is a smooth talker he could win me over .
I felt the story it self was really good a great enemies to lovers ,I think at times the characters was more miss commutation between the two than anything else , dose Tully when Dawson over well that for you to find out .
I think the book was well written and I loved the side characters to I loved Mitchell , but they all had amazing parts to play in the story and there was a few laugh out load moments I think , great feel good read .
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the copy. A very diferent story, but it esa really cute, I really emoji read this One.
This was a super cute and corny book! I really enjoyed the chemistry between Tully and Dawson. I loved the found family and the close knit nature of the friends that both of them have and make over the course of the book. I also loved the resident grouch turned father figure trope.
I did think that the one week timeline was a bit quick for the pace of the book in terms of a believable romantic I love you moment. I also found that a lot of the character building subplots like Dawson's mother, Tully's mother's cancer and so on were not given a chance to fully develop OR were resolved a little to quickly for them to have full impact on the story.
Overall it was enjoyable if a little rough around the edges. I look forward to seeing the author's upcoming works!
This is a sweet & steamy romcom about two characters who fall into an insta-love while also being enemies to lovers although maybe one doesnt know why they are enemies... Hilarity ensues.
The author puts them in funny forced proximity situations, she introduces tones of characters as she establishes the small town and sets up possible future books.
Their story took off quickly and I had mixed feelings about how the characters handled their attraction and their animosity but it was well written and compelling. Everyone was likable but I wanted a little more development on certain things. I liked that the female lead, Dawson was both feminine and fierce with very interesting interests and quirky interests. She set the tone for strong characters and made it easy to like her. Tully was interesting to get to know as were his two best friends. I wanted a little more and I' m looking forward to follow up books in this series.
This book is for you if you love:
insta-love
enemies to lovers
lots of banter
forced proximity
silly situations
small town antics
There is Insta-love in which two characters have a really intense week where a lot happens and so their feelings progress quickly. Then there is THIS Insta-love in which the characters glance at each other once, then exchange five sentences of mundane dialogue, and suddenly..."I've never felt this way about anyone before. She's it for me."
This man literally doesn't know one thing about the female lead when he says this. He doesn't know she owns a motorcycle, he doesn't know she grew up in foster care, he doesn't know her family dynamic, he doesn't know anything about her hobbies or interests.
The writing in this book was...odd. As if the author is British but writing American characters.
There were also quite a few typos and grammatical errors (although I read an arc, so I'm not sure if those will be fixed before the official release).
There was really good chemistry between these main characters, but otherwise everything about this book fell completely flat for me.
I was really excited to love Tinkering with Love, especially with a cool heroine who rebuilds motorcycles, but unfortunately it fell a bit short. An enemies-to-lovers story that I couldn't find myself getting invested in, it was a long journey with this book.
The enemies-to-lover plot line felt very one-sided as Dawson was the one who was hating on Tully while Tully was head-over-heels for Dawson almost immediately. I wasn't expecting such insta-love and maybe the fact that my expectations were completely thrown to the side has me rating the book lower. The poor communication between the two of them almost bordered miscommunication in my opinion and some of Tully's actions and thoughts towards Dawson had me cringing. I think this story had so much potential but unfortunately for it, it missed the mark. Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
I had a lot of trouble trying to finish this book. Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. I knew from the very beginning because the writing style was very lacklustre.
I’ve never been one for love at first sight but Tinkering With Love by Aliyah Burke sure makes you want to believe in it!
I have to admit though.. Tully (the male lead) falling for the female lead Dawson within seconds of seeing her despite her plainly abrasive attitude towards him from the moment she learns his name.
While at times I found the female lead to be petty & the male lead to be a bit too pushy for a man who just met the woman he claims to love within a week… this story sort of grows on you! Or at least it did me by the end.
I mean.. a work retreat in the middle of the woods wherein people are meant to get to know each other only for the main characters to be wholly up and down in terms of their feelings well, it is a rollercoaster but an overall quick and easy read!
Tinkering With Love promised to be a cool book for me. As a motorcycle rider, coach and enthusiast I was very excited about the idea of Dawson being a mechanic and motorcycle lover. Sadly, that turned out to be a small part of the book though it was cool that Tully also loved bikes. Yeah, as I write this I realize it’s kind of a strange reason to look forward to a romance novel. Whether lame or not, it made me read the book, so there’s that.
Dawson was part really likable, part super aggravating. It was a little lame that she was so angry at Tully for stealing her job when it wasn’t through any actions of his own that he was given it. Local sports heroes often get treated specially and he was. Tully is amazing with Dawson and never seems to tire of her erratic behavior and sometimes bad attitude toward him sometimes totally attracted to him.
It was refreshing to have a curvy heroine and a guy who doesn’t judge her for her size. Her relationship with her mother added depth to the book and to Dawson’s growth. It also helped explain some of her relationship issues.
I loved Dawson with the crotchety old guy and I loved that she set up her own successful motorcycle shop. I also very much liked that she and Tully finally found their HEA.
Overall, the book was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours but I’d have liked it better with a few changes.
Thanks to NetGalley, Entangled Amara and the author for the ARC.
I wasn't able to finish this book. Unfortunately, I just didn't connect with the story. I don't want to give this a rating just yet because I may pick it back up in the future but given that is a requirement, I have given it 3 stars. I didn't feel compelled to continue reading this. I enjoy the concept; however, it just was not holding my attention. I do firmly believe that when I experience this, it doesn't mean that I won't enjoy this book - it just is not the right timing for this book to be enjoyed by me.
This book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Etangled: Amara!
Tinkering with Love is the first standalone book in the Rock Falls series and tells the story of Dawson and Tully.
Tinkering with Love is the first book I’ve read by Aliyah Burke, so I didn’t really know what to expect. After reading the synopsis, I thought this book was definitely something for me. Tinkering with Love is an Enemies to Lovers Romance and it’s one of my favourite tropes. I also really liked that this book is an interracial romance story and that the female main character is a fan of motorcycles.
But now let’s talk about reading the book. I was really interested when I started reading this book. I wanted to know more about Dawson and Tully, and how they were going to fall for each other. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of Dawson and Tully. Dawson was constantly hot and cold, and Tully fell for Dawson in, like, 1 second. And when there was a problem, it was always Tully’s fault and never Dawson’s fault.
Overall I liked the concept of Tinkering with Love, and I kind of enjoyed reading it, but it could’ve been better. The main characters were a bit annoying, and I would’ve liked some more information about the side characters. I don’t think I’ll be continuing the Rock Falls series. Lastly, I want to mention that this book talks about drug/alcohol addiction, cancer and fat phobia, if these topics are triggering for you, then I don’t recommend picking up this book.
