A quick, fun read. I really enjoyed this one! It was so fun and the added adventure/mystery really added to the story. With shorter romances, I usually have a hard time being convinced that the two main characters are in love, but Jenn McKinlay was able to pull it off with The Attraction Distraction. I also really enjoyed the audio version of this.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape for the audio ARC!

There is nothing Sarah Novak loves more than a literary adventure. When the director of the Museum of Literature sends her to an uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea to look for a rare artifact from Ancient Greece, as an expert on the Classics, she's all in.
There's only one problem: nine other scholars are also on the hunt for the artifact, one of whom is Irishman Liam Maguire, Sarah's ex and the man she beat out for the curator position at the museum seven years ago. Liam wants to form an alliance, but Sarah refuses. He broke her heart once before; she's not giving him the chance to do it again.

Museum of Literature romance series, second chance, forced proximity romance book. novella type quick 4 hours listening. book set in greece, cute historic adventure mystery romance book.

The writing style here just didn't work for me -- it felt contrived and typical, like it was trying too hard. I didn't finish this.

I listened to this as an audiobook and at under 4 hours, it was a quick listen.

The premise was familiar- former lover turned enemy turned love interest- but had a fresh twist as the characters came together in an unusual setting as the plot takes them to Greece to look for a rare historical artifact.

I thought this was a light listen but did find some of the accents a little grating. Nonetheless, an enjoyable book.

At 3 hours and twenty minutes, The Attraction Distraction is a quick escape of an audiobook, taking us on an adventure to a small island in the Aegean Sea, where a small group of literary scholars search for a mythical shrine and the artifact it houses.

After having no contact for seven years, museum curator, Sarah, keeps encountering her ex, Liam, over and over throughout the trip. When they end up working together on the quest, forced proximity rekindles their feelings and they find themselves in the midst of a second chance romance. Sarah and Liam’s search comes up against human, environmental, and–dare I say–supernatural obstacles.

Since this is a novella, expect to be thrown into the story and for there to be less character and plot development than you would experience in a full-length novel. I found Sarah to lack maturity and to be grating at times, but I enjoyed Liam’s character, his support and cheekiness. The quest of searching for evidence to support events Homer documented in The Iliad and The Odyssey is a fun premise.

The narrator on the audiobook was not a favorite for me.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an ALC. Review opinions are my own.

I loved this book and I wished that it was longer. There is nothing better than a brainy female lead who puts the males to shame. Hoping that this author comes out with more short stories. I have really enjoyed the first two.

This is a fun bookish story with an adventure twist. Perfect listen for a day on the beach or a road trip. I was pleased with the ending.
I realize it’s a novella but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I wanted more depth and backstory.
The narrator was okay. The voices/accents for the male characters were not great.

Sarah Novak, a Classics scholar, is sent to an uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea to find an ancient artifact from Ancient Greece. Though, she’s not the only one on the hunt, 9 other scholars are also searching for this mysterious item that could prove the Trojan War really happened. Liam Maguire, Sarah’s ex she hasn’t seen in 7 years, is among this group. It seems like a simple competition to find the artifact, until strange “accidents” begin to occur and Sarah enters into an unlikely alliance as she tries to get off the island unharmed.

A fun-fast paced adventure with forced proximity, a second-chance romance, and high stakes. The characters are funny and charming, and the story is perfect for fans of Greek mythology (aka me). Its a quick and light-hearted story that is perfect to get you out of a reading slump or refresh between series if you don’t know what to read — either way, read it! The narrator for the audiobook was excellent and I loved getting to hear the different accents with the characters too!

Thank you for Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for providing a copy of the audiobook for my honest review.

The Attraction Distraction by Jenn McKinlay

Sarah Novack is sent on an adventure to secure an artifact for the library in which she works, hopefully before any of the other curators of various libraries find it first. She especially wants to find it before her ex Liam has the chance to claim the prize. Mostly because she has not seen him in seven years after he vanished from thin air from her life.

This was a nice, short, and sweet novella narrated by Sara Young who did a fantastic job of creating characters through voices. I loved the sense of adventure that I got from this listen, and enjoyed learning more about Greece as a whole. It was informative, but not in an overly educated boring way. It was definitely a fun but quick listen, and can't wait to find more by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to this advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was excited to read a novella about a scavenger hunt-esque book in Greece. The book plot was a bit bizarre, but I thought it would be cute. However, it moved too quickly, I couldn’t get to know any characters well enough to form attachments. I also found myself rolling my eyes at how childish all these academia type people were acting, it didn’t make sense to me.

It was a quick, light, and cheesy romance book with an Irish love interest and a trip to Greece. If that’s your vibe, then check it out!

Short and sweet but oh, so much fun. This was a quick listen. Sarah is sent on a quest for an artifact and she is basically on a race/scavenger hunt with others, including her ex boyfriend. Soon she and Liam are teamed up and dodging snakes and rock slides and murderous others who also want the artifact. Who will get their first? Oh, and just wait until the end, that is extra special!

I requested this without even realizing it was in the same series as Royal Valentine. Which means that I listened to this and I could only think "Wow, this feels similar to that." But unfortunately that's all I remember thinking. I know I enjoyed it a little but, but it didn't sweep me away or anything.

I adore Jenn McKinlay and read everything she writes. This was a bit of a disappointment to me. I think it might have had a little to do with the narrator and the forced accent. But I will keep reading her books.

I love Jenn McKinlay but I’m more a fan of her cozy mysteries. This was a nice quick listen as an audiobook. It just won’t be one I go back to.

This was a little Novella, only 3 hours long audiobook and it was so cute! We have Sarah, who works for the library and is told she is chosen to go on an adventure to a Greek island to look for a long-lost artifact and if she finds it the library will get to profit off it. Sarah was a likeable main character, and strong willed. And then we Liam, a Scottish ex-boyfriend of Sarah who up and left her 7 years ago when she got the job at the library over him. Sarah is all filled with hate and dread when she sees him on the plane to Greece is determined not to let him in her heart again, but he has other plans for the women he once loved. This was also a fast-paced novel for being so short, it did not skimp on the story part at all! It had old flames reuniting, adventure, a villain, and Greek mythology which is something I really love! The narrator did a good job especially the Scottish accent! Thank you Netgally and Dream scape Media for a copy of this audio book for a review.

I'm really loving this new Museum of Literature romance series by Jenn McKinlay!! This second chance at love, forced proximity, dual perspective love story, features Sarah Novik, who gets sent to a remote Greek island to search for a hidden literary treasure. Along the way she reunites with her lost love, Liam, the man who broke her heart and ghosted her years ago. These two team up trying to find a lost artifact and find love along the way. Great on audio, this is a fun novella perfect for fans of Something Wilder by Christina Lauren. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ALC!

What a fun adventure!

This was a quick book that has some romance components to it and a quest too. A trip to Greece to retrieve an artifact was really a contest to see which scholor could get to it first. This was like a light version of "The Hunger Games" since scholors kept dropping out because of accidents.

The romance was definitely kindled out of a forced/awkward situation since Sara and Liam were exes and happened to be there for the same purpose. Risk and near death always brings people closer together, right?

This book was just overall fun! The narrator was entertaining and I think did a good job helping bring out the characters through her voice.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this Audiobook for my honest review.
