Second chance romance
Historical findings
Short romantic thriller type of story. Sarah and ex boyfriend Liam are on a literary adventure, with 8 others, to find an scientific artifact to prove that the Trojan war was real. Only problem is everyone keeps mysteriously ends up getting hurt. Is it a colleague doing it or someone on the remote island they are on in Greece?
The narrator did a good job at telling the story but I could not stay interested in the story. I’m not a huge history person so that could be the biggest reason. It was not the worst book I have ever read so I give it a 3/5.
Special thanks to netgalley and Dreamscape media for providing an audio arc in return for an honest review.

Sarah Novak has the opportunity to hunt for a rare Grecian artifact. Her boss, the director of the Museum of Literature, sends her to meet with nine others who are also searching for the lost relic on an uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea. Nothing can stand in her way - except her ex, Liam Mcguire, who just happens to be one of the scholars hoping to find the object first. Soon the two must work together when a series of accidents begins to plague the others.

The Attraction Distraction is a fun little adventure. Sarah and Liam are rivals who get a second chance at love after being apart for seven years. The plot is fast paced and full of exciting turns. I do wish the book was longer. The audiobook is only a little over three hours long.

The Attraction Distraction is the second novella in Jenn McKinley’s A Museum of Literature Romance series. It can easily be read as a stand-alone.

I hope the author continues with this series. I’ve read many of her books in the past and will continue to look forward to whatever she writes next.

I voluntarily listened to and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media!

This was a quick Greek adventure where two exes compete to find an ancient artifact. The premise wasn’t bad, but to me the characters were lacking some substance, I found it hard to connect with them. The narrator was alright, but her accents I thought were poor. I do appreciate the advanced listen, and am a fan of Jenn McKinlay’s books.

This was a cute little novella. Took a couple of hours to listen. We follow Sarah, an expert on classics, who is sent to an island in Greece where there is an artifact that might tell us if the Troyan war was real. She finds out that one of the 10 people trying to find the artifact is her ex who broke her heart 7 years ago. They ahve to team up as someone is trying to sabotage everyone.

I enjoyed it, made me laugh a bit and it was tender and sweet. The narrator did an amazing job with the audio. And now I want to read any other novellas the author has written and her books.

Audiobook Review:
This was such a cute novela and I loved the narration! It was so well done and just loved the Irish accent for the male MC.

This novela is the second of the Museum of Literature Series following Royal Valentine and I honestly enjoyed this one a bit more with the second chance romance story between Sarah and Liam.

I also loved the adventure and mystery in this one and felt that the way the storyline was done I got everything I needed even with the short length of the novela.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this book! I am so thankful to obtain a copy to read in advance of its release!

The Attraction Distraction by Jenn McKinlay is a short novella with so much packed into it. There is some romance, comedy, adventure, mystery/thriller, magical realism, and some mythology. This story is about a woman named Sarah going on an expedition for her work to an uninhabited island to find an Ancient Greece artifact. This expedition is sort of a competition with nine other people hunting for the same thing. While searching for the artifact, Sarah faces a couple life threatening events, comes into contact with an ex, and is also approached by someone in her dreams. I enjoyed the shortness of this story and the fact that it is appealing to people who like a wide range of genres. This story was only nine chapters, but the plot and character building was still really strong. I would most definitely listen to this story or read it again and recommend it to others as well. My favorite part of this story was the ending. I thought the ending was so sweet and heartwarming! I love how within this story we can see how Liam and Sarah’s relationship rebuilds once they are together again and have to rely on one another within their quest, and that we learn some about the past of their relationship as well and the real reason that drove them apart.

Short and sweet! I had no idea this was a novella until I saw that the audiobook is barely 3 hours long. It was so fun and adorable. I loved the premise and the amount of plot that McKinlay fit into this story. I loved the characters. The narrator of the audiobook was wonderful!

2.5⭐️
This was a very quick read, especially on audio. The story is utterly unrealistic, but not in an unpleasant way—a group of Classics scholars are gathered on a tiny island in the Aegean Sea to maybe find proof of the Trojan War? Plus an unfinished romance? Absolutely, no questions asked.

I think I would’ve enjoyed this more if it hadn’t been so short. It moved so quickly that there wasn’t really any time to get to know anyone or get invested in the “mystery.” Part of the joy of the audiobook is that the narrator does some truly heinous accents, especially the Irish one that she has to do most often. That brought me some laughs, but it wasn’t really supposed to. She also mispronounced words, which…wasn’t ideal?

The Attraction Distraction was a fun and silly little book to occupy a couple hours of my morning. Even though I don’t think it’s very good, I also don’t think it’s very bad.

This novella has a little of everything... romance, adventure, suspense. Sarah Novak is a scholar of the classics, so when he museum sends her on a quest to an uninhabited island to find a priceless artifact, she's all in. Nine other scholars are hunting for the artifact, including her ex Liam Maguire, who shattered her heart seven years ago. He wants to team up, but she can't risk getting close to him again... until sinister "accidents" start to happen. Now it's not only her heart at risk, it's her life.
I received an early copy of this audiobook through Dreamscapes and Netgalley. The narrator has a clear smooth voice that is easy to listen to. I loved the story and actually thought the plot deserved a full-length novel. Liam, portrayed as a bad guy through most of the story, ended up being sweet, protective, and all-around wonderful.

Short, sweet, and had an actual plot. Was there a fair amount of cliche cheese? Yes. However, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I appreciate that the main character is intelligent, sensitive, and tenacious. My only wish was that we got to see more of her personality as a curator besides it having to do with her relationship with Liam.

Overall, the story did exactly what the author set out to accomplish. A nice, easy read with a few scenes of surprise excitement.

The very last scene was especially satisfying.

Pre-reading:
I‘m coming off the first book very displeased, but this is the book that initially interested me. I'm a sucker for a yellow cover okay? Also it’s time we stop separating e-books and audiobooks. If you purchase, one you should get the other. I need the closed captioning.

Thick of it:
Myopic and strident. Museum funds her wardrobe. Quite the security system. Again, still into Olive. Wait, I wanna read that book. Gimme Olive and Tareek? please. Yay classics. I wanna go to Santorini. Competition should be fun. Such an absurd plot, but fun! How much money does this museum have? Love an Irish boy. This audiobook sounds Scottish, not Irish lol. Liam! Sinner. Olive Penderghast? The Easy A character? It's hard when there are no words to check it against. Book’s a little too fast again. I hate mint. I know I'm odd for that, but I do. Man child behavior. Very not cool to end a relationship over a job. This series has trash men. I don’t get it. I like the voice the narrator puts on for Cyrus. This should be longer with more development. What would they do with periods when camping like this? Update Cyrus is supposed to be a Chicago accent, and it is not that, but I do like it. Having someone be upset you were held at knifepoint is the bare minimum omg. Why are they airdropping food again? Makes no sense. If they can send them a helicopter, why not just helicopter up there in the first place? All of these author’s characters have food insecurity to an unbelievable degree. No prophetic dreams, please. What damage does this author have that all her heroines get ghosted and then get back together with these trash men? An earthquake? Aren't we pretty good at predicting them at this point? How would they not have been warned about it? You're outside. It's dirty. Y'all don’t have condoms. What are you doing? Museums share shit all the time what are you talking about? You literally just could've told her about the visa. You could've gotten married. You could've texted her. God, I hate this author’s men. Lol, they also brought up the married thing. But like you could’ve been long distance. Ridiculous. The girls argue with the proper dialogue, but the men’s responses are just bonkers. And then they just forgive them anyway, so what’s the point? I'm trying to be objective and not let my Irish bias cloud me. I like this one more than the first, but it's still very bad. But like good concept on this one. Pretty sure this isn't how you excavate things. Wouldn't they want to test all that dirt? Omg, don’t throw artifacts. Why did they send museum curators? Why not archeologists from the beginning? I think that’s only American police who shoot on sight like that. No, you can’t stay on the island, you idiots. They would have to keep looking for the bodies what are you talking about? Yeah, you’ll get fired for doing a treasure hunt with murderers and surviving earthquakes. This book’s absurd. So why not just say you’re working for the same museum, so you wouldn’t have needed to delay and then you would’ve had the artifact too? What about like hr and interpersonal relationships?

Post-reading:
This book is bad, and I’m disappointed. Such a fun concept. Such a poor execution. Better than the first book, so she’s improving I guess? But the author’s second chance romances make no sense. Also, I want to read about Olive, but I fundamentally do not trust this author to deliver the book I want to read.

Who should read this:
Do you like Wattpad romances and classics

Do I want to reread this:
no

The Attraction Distraction is a cute second chance rom com with lots of action and adventure. Although it was short, it still had a great flow and story progression. It was easy to connect with the characters without going in depth with their lives. The twists and turns made it very consumable and fun to listen to.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC!

Sarah is thrilled when her bosses at the Museum of Literature pick her for an assignment that will send her overseas in search of a rare ancient artifact. The only problem? It turns out her ex-boyfriend Liam will also be part of this competitive expedition. Well…that’s not the only problem. It seems that one of the scholars involved in the search is willing to do anything to be the one to find the artifact, and as such it’s not long before ‘accidents’ begin to take out the other explorers. So not only must Sarah attempt to reconcile her feelings for Liam but the two of them must work together if they hope to survive. The Attraction Distraction was a really cute novella. Taking place in an exotic local, with not just romance but danger and adventure, I actually wish it had been a bit longer. I’d have enjoyed a bit more of the Sarah and Liam facing off with each other out in the elements before being forced to come together. The book was narrated by Sara Young would did a fine job of bringing the characters to life. Thanks so much to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advanced audio copy of The Attraction Distraction.

If Indiana Jones was a romantic comedy it would be this book. This one takes lovers to enemies back to lovers and I am here for it. Very entertaining and cute read! Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

An action packed Indian Jones worthy archeological adventure festuring two exes in Greece on a quest to prove the Trojan war actually happened. I had a lot of fun with it though as a Chicagoan, I did cringe every time the narrator voiced the ruthless Chicago antiquities collector who sounded a lot more like someone from the New England era with a bad head cold

I really, really enjoyed this audiobook! It was a super cute read, and kept me hooked the whole time!

Is there anything better than a sweet audiobook novella? I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I really like novellas. Occasionally, I wish they were longer and there was more character/plot development. But I also have adhd and like getting to the good parts fast!

This was your typical second chance romance. Liam and Sarah were completely in love, but when she got the position they both applied for, he ghosted her. But of course we learn there's always more that meets the eye.

I thought Sarah was pretty great and enjoyed her putting Liam in his place when necessary. But it was obvious Liam regretted everything and so it was hard for her to stay mad.

There was a lot happening in this short book and we took some turns I wasn't so sure about.

But I enjoyed this series and will look for the next novella.

4/5

For a novella, this book was packed with mystery, adventure, murder, and love!

I love this series. I loved Olive's book, and now Sarah's. They are so different, but show how interesting the world of antiquities and literature really is!

I received an audiobook ARC of this novel - I have to say, the narrator is fantastic. She has one of the best Irish accents I have ever heard! Can't wait to continue the series, maybe we will see a book for Claire?

This is a fun novella! The relationship progression feels natural, and the premise is really unique and cool, combining romance and mystery. I listened to the audiobook, which I enjoyed. It’s only about three hours long, so if you’re like me and are afraid of long audiobooks, you won’t need to worry about this one being a large commitment.
