Ok I thought that this book was just going to be a really light hearted read. However it actually has lots of hidden depth and tackles lots of topics that typical romance books don't talk about and that was the main reason why I enjoyed reading this book. The author did a great job with this book.
One Night In Edinburgh was an interesting story. Overall, I enjoyed reading it. I had a hard time with the characters. Maybe you that was the point.
This book very well could have been a flimsy, cheesy love story, yet instead takes on a perfect amount of depth for a romantic comedy (i.e., not enough to make you cry, but enough to feel changed by what you've read). it tackles some sensitive issues with grace and a humanistic center: homosexuality, homelessness, and flimsy family ties. The one character I truly did not like was Kayleigh, Steph’s sister — but I don’t think we were supposed to. I loved Steph’s relationship with Connor, and I was inspired by the way Steph continually reacted with positivity and compassion to all the unpleasantness in her life.
I’m excited to share this book immediately with as many people as possible.
E-ARC review: One Night in Edinburgh by @..
This book surprised me a lot. When I started it, I was finding it difficult to get into it. Mainly because I was thinking this would be ‘just’ another typical romance book. WELL let me tell you, it is not! This book was so good. I truly enjoyed it and once I got into the story, there was no more holding back for me. I was reading this book in the bus, on the couch, and when I was walking outside (one of the advantages of ebooks). I’m truly admiring this book and would recommend it to anyone. Keep your eyes out for this one!
This novel was a breath of fresh air for me. Romantic and a bit cheesy but just what I needed after a serial killer thriller.
This novel spoke to me as it could happen to you. I have also had a situation where I lost someone in Edinburgh during the Hogmanay celebrations so that made me chuckle. I also have had a friend obsessed with finding someone she had met for five mins. Reader, she dated him for a year. So the novel had many fun vibes I really appreciated.
Writing was fun and fresh.
A real escape which I really enjoyed.
Reading this novel is like being in a roller coaster ride. There's fun moments, family drama, giggles, insta love, falling in love, falling out of love and queer stuff. The queer part made me thnk that's the reason why it will be released this month.
There's conflict all right but it's not the kind of conflict that's cliche in most romance novels. I liked how it builds up before it reached the point where the MC decided its time to confront the situation and I wasn't prepared as to the how' and why:s. Not really shocking but while reading the book, there's this feeling oh yeah Jamie is sooo lovable but there is something off about him. I can feel it in my bones!
Thought about DNF'ing this coz what's this scene about MC's looking and going bat shit crazy on finding their one night stands insta love men a day after - just like the novel The Last First Date. But when Jamie reappeared, oh wow -- I am.back on the story, baby!
A light and fast read and thank God for reading sprints which helpede finished this one.
One down and couple of others to go for NetGalley. I am having a blast recently at my selected/requested novels to read. Not that great but good enough to entertain me and keeps me engaged until the ending.
Now, where is my own version of Jamie please? The good one NOT the Anna Delvey version please! 😄😄😄

The author seems like she is trying to spoon-feed readers. I would have enjoyed it more if the author did not insist on stating the obvious.
Other than that, I quite liked it. Though it felt dragging to me in the parts where Jamie wasn't present. I loved his character and totally read this only for him.
I approached this book as a fun, feel-good, "nothing can stand in the way of true love" kind of romance. And, while it can certainly be summed up like this, One Night In Edinburgh is also something different. Without giving away the plot, I need to warn you that this is not just a simple and cute love story. Don't get me wrong, it definitely is fun and swoony... but it is also so much more. I am telling you this because, at first, while reading this book, I was expecting more idyllic scenes concerning Steph and Jamie and I was feeling frustrated because I wasn’t getting Hollywood romcom vibes. Then, the more the story evolved, the more I understood there was something deeper that was going to be revealed and I started to appreciate the book more and more. Overall, this is definitely a beautiful love story and, maybe, the fact that it is not a simple and superficial one it's what makes it really beautiful.
Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Charming, funny, sad, clever, different...I loved this book. Recovering from the shock of discovering the man with whom she hoped to spend her life, was gay, Steph is persuaded to go join in Hogmonay street festivities. A chance encounter with charming Jamie shakes her to her core and makes her realise that what she knew before was platonic love based on friendship. However, there is something very elusive about Jamie and it takes all Steph' s persistence and determination to discover his secret. I don't want to spoil the reader's enjoyment by revealing too much but I heartily recommend they read this fabulous book and uncover it for themselves. Different, refreshing, raw and honest.
Easy, warm, cute and very original read! Love the writing style of the author.
This book was so much fun! If you are looking for an entertaining romcom this is the one
. Steph and and her boyfriend Connor have been together forever but they break up on new year eve and Steph meets Jamie, but he is a bit of a mystery. I loved the way the author moved Steph and Connor's relationship to the background, pushing Steph and Jamie's on the main focus
, but also keeping both continually relevant. I totally connected with Steph in this way, and the story was so original for me. I also loved the WhatsApp family texts.
This author's writing style is refreshing, and I really just loved it and can't wait to read her next.
Thank you netgalley , publishers and author for the book in exchange of my honest review
I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is an entirely unique and love story - truly enjoyable. I loved the descriptions of the streets of Edinburgh and the book made me nostalgic for the pubs, the architecture and (even) the food.
The story is compassionately told and well-written. I felt the romance between Jamie and Steph was a little tamer than it could have been and the insta-friendship between Steph and Conner made by head spin a bit. but all in all this was a nice read.
I liked this book but it left me feeling slightly mixed towards it, but I think that was the point. The concept is fantastic and its really clever in the plot and felt really original. Lines like "a flash of inspiration hits me as sharply as Voldemort's killing curse." had me laughing out loud. However, I felt like I wasn't sure where the book was going at all points and it felt like a slight mystery as to figuring out Jamie. Anna came off as slightly too harsh sometimes in a way that a friend wouldn't be. I felt like Steph needed a little more backbone the entire time and really needed less influence from her friends and family. The supporting characters did add a lot to the plot and overall were really good. The second half dragged a little too long and I really just wasn't sure where it was going with the plot, which is probably why it felt too long. Overall, I think it wrapped up well and was a good read.
A sweet love story, set in beautiful Edinburgh. This is a perfect, warm beach read that will entertain any romance reader.
This book was so much fun! If you are looking for an entertaining romcom this is the one. Steph and Connor have been together forever, but once they break up (no spoilers how), Steph meets Jamie, but he is a bit of a mystery and has no social media fingerprint (which raises a few flags). I loved the way the author moved Steph and Connor's relationship to the background, pushing Steph and Jamie's to the forefront, but also keeping both continually relevant. Love is blind, folks. And that theme is prevalent throughout. I totally connected with Steph in this way, and felt her situation not only believable but true to life, juggling family expectations (loved the WhatsApp family texts). and her own, and trying to make sense of things. This author is one to watch! Her writing style is refreshing, and I really just loved it. I just ordered Take A Moment and can't wait to read her next. Thank you NG for the book, and Canelo. This is my honest review.

I love Scotland and when I feel no romance novels set there.
Unfortunately this book did not work for me for many reasons.
1. The break up and immediate shift in their relationship seemed less than healthy.
2. All the red flags with the potential love interest.
3. The complete confusion around the closed door sexy times. I must admit that I prefer sexy times with the door thrown wide but I can enjoy a book without it. This book shut the door, locked it, and then did not want to mention whether there was a door or not ever again.
There is an audience that will enjoy this book.
This is the lamest, most boring romcom of all time. Simply put, this novel is contrived and idk…just dreadful. The dialogue was awkward and cheesy. No one speaks like that. The chemistry for the couple did not make it worth it. Ho hum:/
One Night in Edinburgh by Nina Kaye is a good reminder that people are not always as they appear. Humorous as well as emotional at times, the book starts out with Steph heartbroken on Hogmanay and ending up at a street part in Edinburgh where she meets Jamie. As events unfold their night together ends and they fail to exchange numbers, Steph becomes determined to locate him and does so using messages on his favourite beer at local pubs. They reunite although it seems like the milk carton style search campaign might have been the simplest part of the start of this relationship. Both Jamie and Steph have pasts and in the case of Steph family tensions they need to come to terms with separately and together.
Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo and the author for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A fun, quick read! I thought the story was fun and sweet! My first book by this author. Will read more!!
I just wish I read this over winter! I can totally imagine sitting with a steamy cup of hot choc, wrapped in a cosy blanket beside the fire. It is a simple, cute, read. Not a huge amount of depth, and I often found the dialogue to be unrealistic/unnatural. A sentence that did make me chuckle was “Jamie shares a handshake-cum-hug-cum-slap-on-the-back” … Would ‘come’ be more fitting than ‘cum’?. Overall, this book was enjoyable, and I would recommend it to anyone that needs to freshen the pallet with something light and sweet.
This book seemed like it would be so cute. I had high hopes but unfortunately this book felt like a miss. We meet flat, cliche characters and are supposed to believe certain ideas when the book does little to reflect those emotions. For example, MC is losing her long time love and the conversation happens out of nowhere and takes minutes? The thing that stings the most is that she is single and unable to afford rent? We don’t hear about dashed dreams and somehow she manages to go out like her whole world hasn’t changed?
Then we meet the new love interest and I am expecting there to be fireworks and sweet, amazing banter but it’s like a conversation someone would have with a colleague or new friend. There doesn’t appear to be any deeper connection and I don’t care whether she talks to him or not. Their encounter and connection is forgettable. The biggest issue with this story is that most of the characters are surface level leaving the story lukewarm and just meh. More depth would have made this book easier to connect with and maybe the actions and reactions would have felt more believable.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
