chloe liese did not disappoint. i loved bea and jamie separately as characters and the interactions between them had me giggling. their banter and back-and-forth was so funny and i loved how they’re complete opposites and clashed at the start, but then slowly started realizing that there was so much more to the other than they thought and that they actually complement and balance each other out so well. AND THE VEGETABLE SOUP IN THE FREEZER MY GOD.
everyone knows i’m the biggest sucker for hurt/comfort and chloe always knows how to hit that spot for me. she writes those vulnerable scenes in such a raw and honest way and it always makes hits me right in the chest. jamie opening up about his anxiety. bea opening up about being on the autism spectrum. how bea told him she was worried he’d see her differently, and him simply replying with “i don’t see you differently, i see you better.” yeah i cried.
my only criticism is that i wish the tension between them was more drawn out, and that they didn’t give in to feelings until later than they did. but that’s just a personal preference.
i’m also very excited for the sisters kate and juliet’s stories because the set up for them was definitely there. especially kate and christopher hello?
I really just didn’t love this one as much as I’d hoped to. The characters didn’t feel fleshed out, the writing was a little too long winded, and I just didn’t find myself invested in the story. I loved the premise, but it just wasn’t for me.
I am such a big Chloe Liese fan so I was so excited to get to read an arc of this book (thank you to the publisher and Net Galley!).
While it took a little bit to warm up to the characters in this one, once they started to share more of themselves, I fell in love with them! Bea and Jamies relationship was so sweet, Jamie is such a cinnamon roll, and I loved how many details we got about their day to day lives (I love mundane details!).
The reason I didn't rate this 5 stars was for the third act conflict. The "reason" they couldn't be together did not make sense to me and felt unnecessary.
But I still love Chloe Liese's writing and stories and would still recommend this book just for Jamie alone!
Another Chloe Liese book that blew me away! (4.5/5⭐️)
I loved this story!!!! It was sooo cuteee!!!
Jamie and Bea are truly the definition of opposites attract! They are so meant to be! Their love story was filled with so much laughter, banter, and sexy times! I couldn't get enough!!!
As always I love that Chloe Liese writes book with anxiety and autism representation! I love seeing characters that struggle with social interactions find love, it's so amazing and it gives me hope!
Also as someone with 3 sisters who I love so very much I really enjoyed reading about the strong sister bonds between Bea, Juliet, and Kat!
Overall, I enjoyed the hell out of this book and will continue to devour Chloe Liese's writing!
I couldn't put it down and I didn't want to. This book lived up to every ounce of hype that I had experienced for it. This book is beautifully written; a gripping storyline with strong characters. It ticked all the boxes of my expectations. I would definitely recommend it to others.
I absolutely adored this book so much! Bea and Jamie were something special ♥️ One thing I can always count on from reading Chloe’s books is feeling SEEN which just makes me love her work even more 🫶🏼
This book was inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing which I have no knowledge of so I can’t speak in terms of that but this book was perfect in terms of character development, plot, and romance. It has one of the sweetest sex scenes I’ve ever read, like I teared up it was so beautiful 🥺
Each of the main characters were so relatable. Amazing anxiety & autism representation! I laughed, I swooned, I cried. Definitely recommend this as well as Chloe’s other books!
DELIGHTFUL. What a fluffy, cozy, feels-y, relatable rollercoaster! Very warm and fabulous, I adored both MCs equally even when they were being dingbats, I loved the neurodivergent and mental health rep, and there were so many moments when I thought the story was going left but it swerved right instead, which was just very fun and fresh and made me smile a lot. Wholeheartedly recommend!
I loved the concept of this book, the whole fake dating concept it something I love. The way the story comes about made a cute story. The whole texting while not knowing the person always makes for a fun time.
I enjoyed Bea a lot she was fun loving and made such a great match for Jamie. Jamie was just so down to earth. Their whole story just made me smile.
Overall I enjoyed this book a lot and can’t wait to continue on with this series. I liked the author’s writing style.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
3 stars
DNF at 30%. DNF because I read a book last week that was a similar plot—boy meets girl. Attracted to each other but wont admit it. Decide to pretend to be dating to trick friends and family.
Author of the Bergman Brothers series, Chloe Liese brings us another enemies to lovers rom-com. I've been on a bit of a sunshine and rain cloud kick lately, and this title checked all the right boxes for me. Artistic bubbly woman meets stuffy, organized man and chaos insues. Between clumsy accidents and pushy friends, Bea and Jamie seem like a match made in hell. They are polar opposites and can barely stand to be in the same room as each other. Or can they?
Liese's author's note gives us a little dive into why she wrote her MCs as neurodivergent and I really think her authenticity makes the characters that much more relatable to her on the spectrum. Seeing yourself in a character is so important, doubly when you have experienced many of the pains you see the love interest go through. While I adore the Bergman series, I really look forward to where the Wilmot sisters will bring us.
This book was cute, but unimpressive. If this hadn't been presented as a Much Ado About Nothing retelling, I might have liked it more.
GIVE ME ALL THE SHAKESPEAREAN RETELLINGS! This was a wonderful book with nuanced depictions of autism, depression, and the aftermath of emotionally abusive relationships. I loved Liese's Bergman series and this is a worthy addition to her book of work.
This cover pulled me in. It is as adorable as the couple in the book! I related to the main character and loved the romance unfolding in the story. It was cute, swoony and fun! A great read!
I’ve loved Liese’s Bergman Brothers series and I had extremely high hopes for this one, but I’m unfortunately it missed the mark. The setup seemed implausible to me (these are two intelligent people who wouldn’t fail to see through the ruse), so I had a difficult time connecting with it from the beginning. The couple did grow on me eventually, and I love the mental health and neurodivergent representation (as I do in all of the author’s books). Ultimately, the enjoyable back half was not enough to make up for the unbelievable front half.
This one was cute! I didn’t love the third act break up, but enjoyed the story overall and felt the characters were well developed and had good chemistry. I’m not a huge Shakespeare fan, so maybe that’s why this one wasn’t a complete hit for me!
this was soooooo well written, which isn’t a surprise coming from chloe. chloe writes characters that are multi dimensional & relatable & it’s why she’s so well loved.
bought like 3 copies of this for my different friends!
I adored this for the first two thirds of the book, but things really fell off for me during the end conflict, things seemed SO rushed and unrealistic. Was a five star read up until that point :(
I can’t even form coherent thoughts about my love of Chloe’s writing and this enemies to lovers and fake dating book. I loved this steamy, inclusive, vulnerable, quirky story.
The spin on Much Ado About Nothing was a fun addition, but with better communication. Chloe Liese focuses on some great underrepresented issues (in this case, anxiety and autism). The way she handles these issues is so respectful, honest, and sensitive. I love it! Everyone needs some love :)
And that cover POPS!
Thank you to the author for my gifted advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
If. you haven't picked up Two Wrongs Make a Right yet, maybe this will be the post that finally tips you over; this emotional, witty, fantastically fresh take on the enemies-to-lovers-who-are-fake-dating pulls you in and won't let you go until it's finished. During the ride you'll encounter layered and nuanced representation, lots of laughs, a slow burn worth staying the course for, some heartache and ultimately, that happy ever after. It was fantastic and I'm itching for the rest of the Wilmot sister books soon (September, hurry up!)
3 stars.
This book started out okay for me. I liked how the characters met at the party and were trapped together. However, I just never could quite connect with the characters themselves. I found myself bored after the 40% mark and started fast reading to the end. I wasn't a particular fan of the 3rd act conflict and found the ending to be very rushed.
