Thank you to NetGalley, Sara Downing and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is perfect if you want a quick and inspiring read. I'd have liked for the plot to be a bit more intense, and to delve into other characters a bit more.
However, I think other people would enjoy this book more than I did, and I'd recommend it.
Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I got a bit way through. The changing of tenses was disruptive for me. There wasn’t enough characterisation that I found I didn’t care about Eve at all. There was a lot of lacklustre descriptions.
Nathan (the boyfriend) felt so unrealistic. “My darling girl?” No British man says that about their girlfriend and I’m a Brit and lived in London. He felt more like a father than a boyfriend.
I don’t think this is the writer for me.
Loved this book and the relationship between eve and luca, I was so pleased they found each other in the end. Heartwarming and a real page turner!
I Let You Fall
Sara Downing
Wow is pretty much an adept description of this entire novel and without giving too much away we’ll just call Sara Downing’s I Let You Fall, inspiring insightful and ethereal. She gives hope while dealing with tragic life and death events and presents to her audience a hypothetical transcendent string that connects we humans as a community to each other. But whether it’s divine intervention, mysticism or fate, she lets her readers decide for themselves.
Her writing style flows at an even pace from start to the unforgettable ending with a dual storyline that skillfully features both of Eve’s realities. Her narrative is conversational and mostly casual albeit throwing in a few googling required medical terms for authenticity’s sake, and her characters especially Eve and Luca are (pun intended) out of this world and readers will learn so much about these two star-crossed individuals. Eve is a total delight, an empathic teacher, an open book and readers will have no trouble pulling for her. Luca is a bit more of a mystery although readers will know he’s definitely a good guy. The other characters in the novel are also important players and will help the audience understand the story and the stars better. Sara also gives insight into outer-body or near-death experiences which are now more than ever accepted as mainstream where they used to be conjecture. And in fact there are many non-fiction titles out there, After by Dr. Bruce Greyson is an excellent choice. If you enjoyed In Five Years, I Liked My Life and She Wouldn’t Change a Thing or the works of Sarah Addison Allen you will love this unputdownable read.
On her way home excited about a night out at a gala with her boyfriend Eve Chapman never expected to end up in the hospital in a coma fighting for her life nor could she ever imagine what would happen while being comatose.
Eve Chapman can’t imagine why she’s watching a medical team trying frantically to save the life of the woman on the operating table and even more surprising is that no one seems to know she’s there. Then the next day when her parents show up in the ICU she realizes that she was that woman and that it’s her on the bed with all the tubes and beeping machines attached to her and she’s still wondering why no one can see this slightly shadowy version of herself. Confused and scared Eve is soon visited by Luca a man who it seems can see her, at first she’s afraid of him but soon realizes that he like her is in a coma in a room near her own and he’s not a threat but a mentor sent there to help her navigate what is what in this new, bizarre reality. And there are so many questions Eve has like why can she see her parents and boyfriend Nathan when they visit but they can’t see her or feel her presence and what exactly is she when her physical body remains on the bed inert with tubes and beeping machines and what exactly are these new abilities that Luca says she now has?
Eve Chapman faces the unimaginable as she stares down at the young lady laying on the gurney in the hospital. The young woman is her, with a traumatic head injury. Eve is trapped in a coma, but able to float around to help others and see what her family and friends are doing/saying during their visits. Eve becomes friends with Luca, another comatose patient who is also present outside of his body. The beginning of the book was slow moving, but picked up in the middle. I enjoyed the character development and the introduction to other pertinent people in Eve’s life via their visits to her hospital bedside. The book was touching and heartfelt and would be a light, easy beach read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
Good book, finished it in a day thanks for letting me read, this I actually read this on a different account but I lost, it but good book
3.5 Stars
What happens when you are suspended between life and death? Eve has a tragic freak accident, which takes us a while to find out. She finds herself in a coma; aware of where she is and heartbreakingly watching her family and boyfriend sit by her side. She tries to communicate with them but isn’t able. She then meets another spirit, also suspended who helps her thru the learning process. Even in their suspended state sparks fly. But what happens when/if they wake up. Will they remember each other? Find each other? Return to their previous lives?
This story has a little bit of everything..fantasy, romance, family, heartbreak. I’m not much into fantasy, but I found this premise interesting, thought provoking. At times it was slow, but would pick up. Different storylines that all come together at the end.
Thanks to Ms. Downing, Quilla Books and NetGalley for this ARC. opinion is mine alone.
I finished this a few days ago and have been struggling with how to word my feedback.
This book took me longer to read than I expected. The writing isn't bad nor is the story itself, but it's been done so many times that I struggled to get through it. It felt a bit like a Hallmark movie - you know what's going to happen because it's formulaic, but you watch it anyway.
The characters were all likeable except Nathan, of course. Eve's parents were a bit selfish with their comments about traveling to see Eve... I guess that may be realistic in that situation though. I really like Luca.
I was happy with the ending.
The writing was really beautiful and I loved the story premise. However, overall it just fell flat and anticlimactic. I did enjoyed reading it but didn't really feel that the romance aspect lived up to it. I wish that the ending had more and didn't end the way it had. It felt somewhat incomplete, like it was missing a few chapters.
Instead of romance vibes it felt more like I was just taking a look at a group of strangers and the way their lives' all interconnect. It was an interesting read. But, wasn't for me in the end. It left me wanting more of a love story.
The premise of this book is intense and basically my worst nightmare, so it gave me some anxiety. However, it was slightly confusing and I don't think its a book I'd be grabbing to read again any time soon.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quilla Books for provided my copy. I am grateful but my thoughts are my own.
Did you ever wonder what happening when someone in comatose condition? Do they can hear or response to any interactions? Maybe only their body incapable to response but they totally aware? Well, I Let You Fall will give you the possibility to answer it.
The premise so promising, and I personally enjoy the narrative style. Sadly, I cant feel any connection with the characters, and I think they are need extra development. The pacing, plotline and ending isnt my fave because I am keep waiting extra twist to spark the story, but it never exist. The romance sound promising but I need additional chemistry between both MC.
Following Eve Chapman who has obviously been in some sort of accident, she realizes that she is in a coma, and now exists in sort of a middle world where she can use her newfound abilities to soothe and direct others. She has come in to the hospital involved in a relationship - but that struggles through her illness. She meets a male "form" in her same situation who takes her under his wing and teaches her ways to utilize her time in this otherworldly existence.
Several side characters are introduced and the pieces of their lives are interwoven throughout the story. I was really expecting so much more to this story. I think many people will enjoy this one, but to me it felt bland. The characters didn't feel fully developed and everything that happened was just too convenient. All that to say that it was a very sweet story. If you love Hallmark movies, then you will most likely love this book.
If you look forward to feel good, all wrapped up in a bow endings - then by all means pick this one up! I've seen tons of good reviews for this story, it just wasn't the right fit for me. I tend to enjoy reads with a more melodic prose and open-ended storylines.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quilla books for the advance copy to read and review.
Personally I did not finish the book and skipped to the last chapter to see how it ends. The ending is lack luster.
I think the premise of the book is interesting and I was sort of expecting a "Just like heaven" vibe when reading the book but it was not. The romance is there but could have been better.
The characters were okay but nothing special. I felt that there wasn't much character development or anything that made them truly interesting to continue on which is surprising cause the concept of the story was.
The writing was very descriptive and I personally am not a fan of pages and pages of surrounding descriptions.
I think this could be a certain type of readers book and maybe on another day I will revisit it to see if it was good but for now it was a dnf.
This book gave me If I Stay (Gayle Forman) feels. Don't judge me, but I love a good I'm in a comma-outside-body story and I Let You Fall didn't disappoint me. Actually, I loved this book so much I ordered it on paperback and planned to make it part of my re-read list.
All the feels, unputable down and fantastically written.
Excellent heartwarming book. I loved the characters and the story telling.
Excellent writing. Look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you for allowing me to review this advanced copy.
I have read one other Sara Downing book; I can say that I enjoyed both immensely.
I Let You Fall takes you on the otherworldly journey of Eve and Luca. It's a journey of light, love, and reconnection.
I think that we have all had the feeling of de-ja vu, that feeling that someone called our name, or a light touch on our shoulder at least a few times in our lives. This book makes you wonder if there isn't something more at play. As someone that is faithful that there is something beyond this realm, I Let You Fall gives you pause to wonder just how extensive it all really is.
While parts of the book were a bit slow moving, the overall experience of the book was worth the read. Overall, a great reader experience.
This book had a great premise, but it was such slow going. I had to convince myself to keep going. When Eve falls and hits her head coming off the subway, she ends up in a coma. She watches her comatose body from a distance and sets off to fo good deeds with the help of another comatose patient Luca. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.
Heartfelt story! I really enjoyed this one as the storyline was so unlike anything else I have read. It addressed grief, loss, love and so much more.
Eve finds herself in a coma after an unfortunate accident. Confused and alone she struggles to cope with what has happened to her. But she isn’t alone. Luca is like her, not quite alive but not quite dead. As they unite in this uncertain world, they not only find peace but love too.
I liked the book a lot. The writing style was easy to connect with & the premise of the book was really intriguing. It made me think about whether there is really a world beyond that is, in fact preternatural?
Eve & Luca made me believe in fate. I loved the connection that they seemed to have from the outset. This is a really moving story that adds a new dimension to everything that we know & believe.
The humanity & compassion portrayed in this book gives out a message about how at the end of the day we are all humans no matter what are differences & we do need to take care of each other.
Thank you NetGalley, Quilla Books & the author for the ARC to this beautiful story in return for my honest review! Looking forward to more books by the author.
It was a short and sweet, touching novel.
Eve is a woman who finds herself in a hospital emergency room. "She watches surgeons desperately operate on a young woman with a terrible head injury. But when the bandages are removed, Eve is horrified to find her own body on the operating table." In the beginning, Eve is in a coma and she struggles to cope with the fact that no matter how hard she tries, her family and friends cannot see or hear her. I was totally sucked in.
Then, as she struggles to navigate the world between, she meets Lica, who can see her and teaches her how to use her abilities. I enjoyed this, but it got a little confusing for me as points of view switched around.
I am rating this 4 stars because it is above average, but not WOW. I wanted to do 3.5 stars, but I had to round.
Read this for sure, but maybe get it from the library.
Thank you to the author, the publisher and to #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.
