My first, but definitely not my last Vanessa Miller book! What We Found in Hallelujah is a beautifully written story about the love of family and the love of Jesus. And how, we can’t do this life without clinging to both of them! When Faith and Hope are called home to small town Hallelujah, South Carolina, both just want to avoid being there. Faith’s marriage is crumbling and her teenage daughter hates her. Hope’s boyfriend just cheated on her and her job is on shaky ground. Neither one wants to go home and deal with their mama or her drama and lies. But they do. And along the way, they discover family again. Such a profound story. But also very fun and well-written. Can’t wait to read more!

What We Found in Hallelujah is a heartwarming, page turner that speaks of the importance of faith, family and forgiveness, and was a story that I had a hard time putting down once I picked it up. This was my first experience with a Vanessa Miller novel, and I was blown away by the intensity of the story, and how well the entire plot was pieced together.

We follow the three Reynolds women throughout the course of the story; which consists of Ruby and her two adult daughters Hope and Faith. After many years of trying, Ruby has finally concocted a way to get her two daughters home at the same time, and there's many secrets and much history that the women must all work through together. Hope is still reeling from a shocking discovery she encountered after her college graduation, Faith is still blaming herself for the disappearance of their youngest sister (Trinity), and struggling to connect with her teenage daughter Crystal, and Ruby is harboring more secrets, that might just be the tipping point for a family already struggling to move on. As the Reynold's women prepare to battle a hurricane that's quickly making its way to Hallelujah, South Carolina, their lives are about to change in ways they never could have seen coming.

From start to finish, this was one of those stories that pulled you right into the plot, and never wanted to let you go. I ended up reading the majority of it one sitting, as I couldn't take not knowing what was going to happen next. The plot twisted and turned in ways that left me stunned, and Vanessa Hall's beautiful prose had me tearing up many times at the many, truly heart wrenching moments contained throughout. The faith element was heart breaking and heart warming at the same time, the characters felt real and authentic as we followed them along their tumultuous journey, and the conclusion was not what I ever could have expected.

I wholeheartedly loved my first experience with a novel by this author, and I look forward to picking up more of her titles in the future.

My only complaints were that the characters did take quite a while to grow on me, as they're all pretty awful at the start of the story. And there were a couple of inconsistencies throughout that I found rather bothersome. I'm hoping these won't make it through to the final manuscript, but for example, in one instance Hope is talking about how her father died two years prior, but yet in a conversation the next day she mentions that her mother has struggled ever since her father died four years ago. It was just kind of odd, but definitely didn't keep my from loving this wonderful story.

Final Rating: 4.5/5

What We Found in Hallelujah by Vanessa Miller is a wonderful book! I enjoyed it and read a lot of the book twice.
Three sisters Hope, Faith, and Trinity return to South Carolina to help their mother Ruby with the family home. I loved these three sisters. They each have problems, but they come together as a family with the best of intentions, even though life throws obstacles along the way. The story seems like real life with faith enough to help each person find their way!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

Vanessa Miller has a very unique voice in the Christian fiction market. She reminds us that no matter what has happened in the past, families need to stick together.
Faith and Hope Reynolds lost their younger sister when she was just 14. They have each struggled with their own guilt of what happened to Trinity. Hope has spent her life running from their family beach home. Faith struggles with not letting her daughter get to close for fear of losing her.
When their mother sends out an SOS for help, the two sisters both return to Hallelujah against their better judgement.
With a hurricane headed their way, they have to decide to stay or go. What they find out is that storms are better face together.
Well written, Miller gives you the feeling of home even when you have never lived in a beach house. She makes her characters so very normal and 3D that you will find yourself cheering them on and wishing you could stop by their deck, enjoy the view and some sweet iced tea.

I tried. I really do. But his book is definitely not for me. I did not find it good or bad - I don't want to say anything wrong, cause I'm sure that this kind od story are valuable for many, but for me, it was just a waste of my time.

What We Found in Hallelujah by Vanessa Miller is the story of a family who has come through trauma. Each member deals with the traumatic experiences in different ways, but all of them keep secrets for years from each other. Those secrets have consequences which aren’t fully realized until they are all together again riding out a hurricane that threatens their lives and to destroy their home. Such a sweet and delightful story! Mom, Ruby, and her daughters, Hope, Faith, and Trinity have been estranged for along time, each daughter with a different life story. Ruby concocts a reason for Hope and Faith to come home to her beach house in Hallelujah, and when they do, a lot of secrets from the past are addressed. This is a book about love and loss and above all, forgiveness. The women's undulating relationships with God are mingling throughout the book, and are ultimately the reason for their healing. I might have edited the story down a little because it did get a little long, but otherwise, I would recommend it to all my Christian sisters.

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review What We Found in Hallelujah.

I'm going to be real I had a hard time reading this because the publisher's stamp was on every 3-4 pages of the e-book in the middle of the text. It Brough me out of the story every time, which is too bad because it is a lovely story. Ruby, Hope, and Faith are well-written characters. This is a story of family, faith, and loss. I'm going to buy it when it comes out so I can actually read it, uninterrupted. Thomas-Nelson, please don't put your stamp on the middle of your author's story, even in ARCs.

WHAT WE FOUND IN HALLELUYAH by VANESSA MILLER is an enjoyable read with interesting characters and a strong Christian message of forgiveness, redemption, family dynamics and second chances. It is interesting that the two Reynolds sisters’ names are Hope and Faith.
Ruby Reynolds is fiercely looking after her property and the house her architect husband designed and built for her, wanting to turn it into a bed and breakfast for her daughters’ inheritance. She has other problems and is not scared of lying in order to get Faith and Hope to come to Halleluyah. She is a feisty woman and guards her secrets closely. Her Christian life is practically nonexistent after losing her youngest daughter, Trinity, in a hurricane in 2005. In factTrinity’s disappearance has affected her older daughters so badly that they are not at all keen to come back to Halleluyah. In fact, Faith’s daughter, Crystal, looks so like Trinity that it affects their relationship.
There is also a strong theme of rejection and guilt……
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions inthis review are completely my own.

“What We found in Hallelujah” by Vanessa Miller

Hallelujah, South Carolina is a place prone to disastrous hurricanes, not just the ones with rain and winds, but also the ones that tear your life apart physically and emotionally. This story follows the Reynolds women: the mother, Ruby and sisters, Hope and Faith as they try to find the balance between grieving for a past loss and regaining their faith. There are secrets ranging from relationship struggles, health scares and chiefly, what happened to their youngest sister, Trinity all those years ago.
Following the women through this story as emotions that have been long buried rise to the surface, as tears are constantly spilled, and as hurt threatens to push this family further apart, will have you as a reader experiencing every emotion possible. Mostly, this is a story about forgiveness, restored faith in God, redemption and love.

I would encourage anyone to read this heartwarming book with its relatable and realistic characters!

Hallelujah in South Carolina is a family town where the locals live a quiet life, but the beach houses are always threatened when hurricane season strikes. And not only the houses but the families as well.

Meet Hope Reynolds about to become the General Manager of a hotel chain in California, but life takes her back to her hometown which she left eighteen years ago. Back at home, her mother Ruby is waiting for her. She also invited her other daughter Faith. Will this be a happy family reunion or a time to heal the past?

Ruby Reynolds the matriarch, and a force to be reckoned with, has her share of secrets, but will the impending storm be a good time to unravel them, or will she take those secrets to the grave?

I love how Miller portrays the Reynolds women: Ruby, Hope, Faith, and Trinity. Their lives, their dreams, their personalities, and their struggles are so real that you feel for them as they try to do the right thing. Will making things right heal their wounds?

This is one redemption story that will shake and warm your heart while you read page after page.

This is a wonderful story of God's redeeming love and power working in people even if and when they've lost their faith and trust in Him. I like it that author Vanessa Miller included many Scriptures and thoughtful "mini speeches" in the minds and mouths of her characters, especially the loveable Pastor O'Dell. There is much about lying, well-kept secrets, prejudice, forgiveness, hurricanes and beach houses, prayer and so much more that gives this book a good wholesome spine (pun intended). It was easy to like Nic and I enjoyed getting to know Ruby, Hope and Faith as they struggled about Trinity. In the end, the threads of the story tie nicely together and despite the deep sadnesses their faith brings measures of healing and happiness. Teenagers as well as adults will appreciate this Hallelujah story.

This is a beautifully written story demonstrating the power of faith, prayer and forgiveness. It’s the first book I’ve read by Vanessa Miller and what a delightful surprise. Definitely will be reading more of her books.

This is about three sisters, Hope, Faith and Trinity of the Reynolds family of Hallelujah, South Carolina. Their Dad, Henry, died a number of years earlier. Ruby Reynolds has called her daughters to come home to help her clean up and update the family home to turn it into a bed and breakfast, a long-time dream of the family. Hope is single, expecting to be named general manager of the Hillsboro Hotel in Los Angeles. She is no longer dreaming of a family owned and run bed and breakfast. Faith lives in Atlanta, is married with a 14-year-old daughter and the owner of her own interior design business. She’s dealing with some serious issues in her marriage and the relationship with her daughter. Trinity has not been seen or heard from for many years.
Hope hadn’t been home in 18 years after learning of a devastating secret that was life-changing for her, however, she decides to heed the call of her mother and come home. Despite the objection of Crystal, her daughter, Faith packs them up and they head for South Carolina.

This is a fascinating, intriguing, story of family that has kept many important truths hidden, secrets that changed the course of lives and relationships, and has to a certain extent, put their own relationships with God on the back burner. Some very relevant social and health issues are incorporated into this heartfelt story. The issues facing the Reynolds family are real-life, important issues that come to some important conclusion because of the redemptive power of forgiveness and love.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, Thomas Nelson. All opinions and comments are my own.
