This was an interesting story with plenty of twists and turns, I enjoyed how the story unfolds, and the relationship Colter has with Hannah. The plot moved along at a great pace and the characters were well developed and interesting.

Colter Shaw is a man who has a unique set of skills. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Jeffery Deaver does it again! Colter Shaw is such a great character and I'm so invested in his story!

Unfortunately, I read this book just before I got pregnant with my 2 ND and while I can't remember the story I di know I devoured it in days and enjoyed every moment!

Can't wait for the next book!

Jeffery Deaver! It is such a pleasure to read his works! Character development is always a highlight with fully fleshed out, multidimensional characters. The character driven plots are always intense and multi- layered that are intriguing and complex. The pacing is perfect with rising tension and suspense! The storylines are plausible and offer surprising and interesting twists. In Hunting Time, we are introduced to Colter Shaw, a dynamic character who is endearing. I was thoroughly engaged with his character. I didn’t realize this was a series, and Hunting Time is the 4th book in the series! It is a testament of a great author that this could be a stand alone and the reader doesn’t feel lost by not knowing the backstory. It is also a testament that the reader would want to learn the backstory; I intend to go back to the beginning of this series! I am looking forward to future Colton Shaw episodes!

Really engaging read with lots of twists that felt organic, not forced, even if previous scenes were slightly contorted to lead the reader down a false path. Couldn’t put it down and enjoyed it thoroughly. Colter Shaw reminds me a lot of another of my favorite fictional characters, Lucas Davenport. We don’t have a ton of information about their internal lives, yet we know all we need to know about them. Looking forward to more in this series.

This is a thrilling novel that follows reward-seeker Colter Shaw as he tries to find and protect Allison Parker and her daughter from her ex-husband, Jon Merritt, who is stalking her. As an expert in tracking missing persons, Shaw is confident in his abilities, but he soon realizes that Allison is not an ordinary person. She is a brilliant engineer who uses her skills to evade detection, making it difficult for Shaw to find her. As Shaw ventures further into the wilderness, he discovers that the truth is as hard to decipher as the forest's unmarked trails, and danger awaits at every turn.

Deaver's writing is engaging and suspenseful, keeping readers on the edge of their seats throughout the book. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is intricate, with several twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the very end. The novel also explores themes of survival, trust, and betrayal, making it a thought-provoking read.

This one is no exception!

I loved the characters and the story!! Allison Parker is a strong and smart woman. Colter is hired to protect her from her ex husband who just got out of prison, and has sworn to kill her. There is a lot to the story and a lot of plot twists. VERY GOOD!!

Hunting Time (Colter Shaw #4). By Jeffery Deaver. 2022. G. P. Putnam’s Sons (ARC eBook).

I was looking forward to finally reading a book by this author as I have always like The Bone Collector movie with Denzel. There is action and a twist, but overall this story never had me invested. Shaw didn’t dazzle me into coming back for more, and I didn’t care for the swerve. The writing was ok, so if I try Deaver again, I will go with the Lincoln Rhyme series.

I just finished this latest book by author Jeffrey Deaver. It is fantastic. The book started out slow so I put it aside and forgot about it. That was a mistake! It is an exciting thriller with more twists and turns than a mountain road and by the time I picked it up again, I was captivated. There are several things going on in the novel. The theft of a piece of nuclear technology is thwarted, and someone is still after it. That is the boring part. When the creator of the tech goes on the run from her husband who has just been early released from prison things get interesting. Her daughter Hannah is an issue and so are many. It is often hard to tell the good guys from the bad and protector Shaw, hired by the tech company to get back the piece that was stolen and find its creator has his hands full. The boring and the exciting come together in the twists that make this book fun and exciting to read. I have always enjoyed Jeffrey Deaver's novels and this is one of my favorites. A must-read for thriller fans. Thanks to #NetGalley#HuntingTime for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Shaw works for rewards. You post reward for Lost Child and he will attempt to locate the child.
He has many talents and is almost but not quite a private eye.
He is asked to help find a mole in a small company as they believe that an item has been sold to an adversary.
This leads to an a winding path of interconnected people and agendas.
Fast moving, a little who Dunn it, a little action….a bit like Jack Reacher and a little bit MacGyver, Mr Shaw finds the answers to the whole thing in a very satisfying ending.
Highly recommend. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me this ARC.

Every once in a while you just gotta hold out for a hero - and self-described reward-seeker Colter Shaw certainly qualifies in my book. He's ruggedly good-looking, self-assured (in part by way of childhood training by his super-intelligent survivalist father, Ashton) but with a hint of vulnerability - just a hint - that adds to his appeal. This is the fourth book in the series, and I'm still wishing we could meet in person, if only for a steak, scotch on the rocks and some interesting conversation - after all, I'm old enough to be his grandmother (sigh).

Here, his considerable problem-solving skills are requested by the head honcho of a nuclear energy company in the Midwest that makes some kind of portable device that could be dangerous in the wrong hands - which it appears to be the case. Meantime, former cop Jon Merritt, who's been serving jail time for beating his now ex-wife Allison almost senseless has been sprung much earlier than expected - and apparently, he's on a mission to track her and their teenage daughter Hannah down and probably kill either or both. As fate (and the seeds of a good story) would have it, Allison is a nuclear engineer who works for said nuclear energy company - or did till she and Hannah took off for parts unknown in an attempt to stay safe. Needless to say, Colter ends up trying to protect them from harm. But first, of course, he has to find them, while hoping her ex-husband and a couple of professional hit men don't get there first. Who emerges triumphant in that race you'll have to find out by reading it for yourself, and plan on a twist or two in the process. All told, another good entry in this engaging series.

Hunting Time is the fourth instalment in the Colter Shaw, reward seeker, series and have become a fan of Jeffery's books when Netgalley introduced me to the first in the series and now I just cant get enough of them. In addition to the main books in this series there are additionally short stories available on kindle etc which are well worth a read too.

in this book "Allison Parker goes the run with her teenage daughter, Hannah. Colter Shaw has been hired by her eccentric boss, entrepreneur Marty Harmon, to find and protect her. Though he's an expert at tracking missing persons - even those who don't wish to be found- Shaw has met his match in Allison, who brings all her skills as a brilliant engineer designing revolutionary technology to the game of evading detection.."

Its a very exciting page turner with lots of action, adventure, twists and turns, possibly not my favourite Colter Shaw if I'm completely honest, I still loved every minute. Although this is the fourth book, they don't refer to much of the previous story and can, in my opinion, be read in any order.

Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy of this book.

I have read a lot of Jeffery Deaver's books, but had never come across one with Colter Shaw before reading this one. But I will find the others, because I REALLY like Shaw and would like to know MORE.

He defines himself as a "reward seeker', not a bounty hunter or a private investigator, and he is good at what he does. This time, he is recovering a new, game-changing gadget that has been stolen and is for sale to some very bad people. The story begins with the retrieval of this gadget and it is brilliant. The man who hired him is very pleased, and he has another little problem he would like Shaw to help with. One of his engineers, actually the one who invented the gadget, has gone missing and he is worried about her. Her abusive husband has been released from prison and the fear is that he may be trying to get revenge for her pressing charges against him and sending him to prison. Not Shaw's usual work, but OK.

The search takes a while and there are a LOT of twists and turns, so pay attention.

I highly recommend this book, as I enjoyed it a LOT!!

I should first tell you that I am a dedicated Jeffery Deaver fan and read all of his books as soon as I can. The Colter Shaw series is one of my favorite Deaver series, even more than Lincoln Rhyme. This is book #4 in this series. Each can be read.....and thoroughly enjoyed.....as a stand alone but they are all very, very good reads. I'd recommend you read the first 3 just so you can enjoy a great series.

In HUNTING TIME, Colt's assignments seem to change on a dime, but that's really not a problem for our multi-talented hero. He must prevent the theft of some very important, life changing equipment then finds himself "hunting" the main scientist on this project. She is on the run from her ex-husband. Fresh from prison, he's got plans that include her death by some very unpleasant means.

Deaver is well known for his action filled adventures and his larger than life chaacters. Thank goodness he keeps giving us these great stories.

I really enjoy the Colter Shaw series by Jeffery Deaver. This is the 4th book in this series and continues to bring all the things I really enjoy about this series. Adventure, thrill, twists and heart. This book centers on a mother (nuclear engineer) and daughter trying to escape for their lives. Shaw gets thrown in the mix to save them. Throw in corruption, nuclear energy, alcoholism, domestic violence, and environmental issues and you have a story that will keep you on your toes.

Readers of the Colter Shaw series will know that Shaw was raised as a survivalist. He makes his living collecting rewards. The rewards are usually offered to find missing people, although they are sometimes offered by the government to provide information leading to the capture of fugitives.

Shaw begins the novel doing something like a sting to thwart the theft of a portable nuclear device from the private company that made it. That’s not the kind of assignment Shaw usually takes but a friend recommended him for the gig and he needs to earn a living. He works with the company’s security officer, Sonja Nilsson, who took a job in the industrial pit of Ferrington because someone published stolen government documents that outed her as a former military assassin.

The company's CEO, Marty Harmon, soon hires Shaw for another project. The company’s top engineer, Allison Parker, is on the run. Her ex-husband, Jon Merritt, went to prison for beating her. Now he’s out of prison. He told another prisoner that he planned to kill Allison and his daughter Hannah. Allison hit the road with Hannah, although Hannah doesn’t really believe her father would harm her.

Merritt is a former cop with a reputation for heroism. The law enforcement effort to find him is unenthusiastic. Harmon wants Shaw to find and protect Allison until Merritt is returned to prison.

The story follows the path of an action thriller. Two tough guys try to chase down Allison while Merritt uses his skill as a former police detective to deduce her hiding spot. Shaw and Sonja follow the trail, pausing once with the intent to shag before they remember the higher duty they owe to Allison and Hannah. The story gives action fans the usual array of fistfights, shootouts, and explosions.

As thriller heroes go, Shaw is more cerebral than violent, making the series a welcome change from thrillers that spend more time describing guns in loving detail than building characterization. One of the characters echoes NRA propaganda by claiming that an assault rifle is no different than a deer rifle, as if anyone hunts deer with an M4. The NRA proudly used the term assault rifle before it decided to discourage its members from doing so. Gun enthusiasts often gravitate to tough guy thrillers so Jeffery Deaver may have included a gratuitous recitation of propaganda to please those readers. But since the guy who makes that claim is a murderer, maybe Deaver is subtly sending the opposite message. Who knows? I can only say that Shaw is handy with a gun but doesn’t make them his life.

Shaw has the annoying habit of calculating odds in terms of percentages. He decides there is a “10 percent chance” of something happening when it would be more accurate to say there is a “low risk,” as he has no actuarial or statistical basis for the percentages he invents. The percentages are a gimmick. He also likes to quote rules that his survivalist father taught him. Rules are another gimmick that have become popular in modern thrillers. As much as thriller writers like to substitute gimmicks for personalities, I wish they wouldn’t.

Fortunately, the gimmicks don’t distract from the plot, which quickly moves to the kind of resolution that readers seem to like. The story takes some welcome (because they are unexpected) twists — not every character is who he or she seems to be — but by the end, characters generally lie in the bed they’ve made. This isn’t the kind of novel that allows an innocent character to die or evil deeds to go unpunished.

This novel seems to set up the next one, continuing Shaw’s efforts on behalf of a corporate employer and perhaps giving him an opportunity to finally shag Sonja. Whatever happens, Deaver has established the Colter Shaw series as one of the better choices for fans of action novels.

I am a Lincoln Rhymes fan but this Colter Shaw character has some interesting qualities. There are lots of twists and turns, maybe a bit too many. An abusive husband, A nuclear waste plant with stolen secrets and some well fleshed out characters make this a wild but worthy ride.

Fourth in series is action packed and full of clever twists and turns.

Colter Shaw, the son of survivalists, works as a reward seeker and goes where the money leads. This time, he’s hired to find Allison Parker, a brilliant nuclear engineer, and her daughter, Hannah. They are on the run from her abusive ex-husband, John Merritt, who’s just been released early from prison. Shaw runs into a situation almost immediately — it seems that there are two hitman who are also tracking Allison.

This was well written and kept me entertained. I like the main character, Colter Shaw, who is enigmatic and competent while also often proving to be the romantic interest of at least one woman or two. The details about Colter’s childhood training up in the mountain wilderness with his family are also interesting and educational. I like the series and definitely will continue.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for this ebook ARC to read, review, and recommend.

I've always enjoyed Jeffrey Deaver. This is my first Colter Shaw novel. Shaw general makes his money by securing offered rewards to find missing people. In this case, he's asked to protect Allison, the brilliant ex-wife of a cop turned felon and her sixteen year old daughter, Hannah FROM her ex, Jon. Jon has just been released prematurely from what was to be a three year sentence. He brutally assaulted Allison in a drunken rage and now word is he is going to kill her. Allison is already gone when Shaw comes on board, hired by her employer, a nuclear energy based company on the cutting edge. Allison is their star scientist/inventor. A very complicated story ensues involving police ambiguity (are they supporting their old colleague by their inaction?); crazy contract killers (why did Jon hire them?); Hannah's teenagerness and belief in her father until she doesn't (teen resistance to her mother's efforts to protect her or actually evil?) and ultimately, Shaw's relationship to the various tendrils of the investigation and his protection responsibilities. He's that good. But can he pull this off with all of these variables? His childhood a a survivalist comes in handy throughout the story and hi ability to spot anomalies. A satisfying read with a very decent resolution. Definitely recommend.
