Betts & Walker books 1 and 2 by Jonathan Macpherson was everything that I was hoping for and more. The book is jam-packed with thrills, action, gratuitous violence, and blood. It moves quickly and leaves you wanting so much more. I had a great time listening to the book. The audiobook's narrator, Tom Campbell, was excellent. He did a fantastic job portraying each of the several roles.

Thank you to NetGalley and City Beach Books for the audiobook copy.

An engaging crime thriller. My first book(s) by this author. Prior Violations starts with action, blood, shooting and crime on the very first page, from the minute you start the book, you are engrossed into the world of Betts and Walker. Mitch Walker is a Hero, he attempts to stop a robbery gone wrong, he looses his job because he is then late to work after trying to stop the robbery. With Mitch now being, in-between jobs, he offers his help to his sister and nephew. His nephew has leukemia, and his sister has just been injured in a hit and run accident. Mitch assists with his nephews daily needs whilst his sister is recovering. While caring for his nephew, Mitch discovers that his leukemia is terminal but there is a new drug on the market which can help his nephew, but the cost of the drugs is ridiculous. Mitch goes above and beyond to save his nephews life and makes a horrible decision to become a drug mule. As you can imagine Mitch comes across some unsavory characters, and his life is always on the line. This is definitely a story worth exploring with BIG Pharma and dirty doctors anything is possible. This will provide alternatives and options for those desperate but at what costs.

Prior Violations: 5 star rating

TW: blood and gore, violence, death, strong language, child illness

Mitch Walker has no idea that stopping an armed robbery is about to send his life on a tailspin. Events after take him down an increasingly dangerous and deadly path. Is he going to make it out alive? Side plots include a crime boss’s deadly activities and the life threatening illness of someone close to Walker.

I absolutely loved this short prequel. The book is nonstop action from start to finish. There’s a lot of characters to keep track of but they are all incredibly fleshed out and realized. I read this in a day because I just couldn’t put it down. You really feel for the main characters and for their plight. The villains are threatening without being too cartoonishly evil.

Overall I really loved this and I can’t wait to read the story that this is the prequel to. Recommend to all fans of action/thrillers of appropriate age.

Brazen Violations: 4.5 stars

TW: blood and gore, violence, death, strong language, child illness

Mitch Walker is desperate to save the life of his young nephew, who is dying from cancer. When a bid to get the money for the drug that he needs goes horribly wrong it leads to a chain of violence and murder. On the run ruthless criminals, the only person that can help him wants him in jail. A police officer is kidnapped and turned into a tool for the criminals. It all culminates into a life or death battle that is a wonder to read about.

Is this book over the top? Yes. Is this book ridiculous? Also yes. Does it push the boundaries on what is even believable to happen and exist? Yup. Are the reactions of many of the characters completely unbelievable? You bet. I still absolutely love this book.

So much ridiculous and over the top stuff happens in this. It’s a wild ride from start to finish. It severely pushes the bounds on believability (the main character has some serious plot armor) but I so don’t even care. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I listened to this. Just like the prequel this had action from cover to cover. I wasn’t as big of a fan of the main characters as I was in the prequel but they were still really good villains for the story. Betts (a police officer in the story) has an expanded role as compared to the prequel and i swear had beefier plot armor than the main character did but I also don’t care.

This story is a highly entertaining thrill ride that I recommend to fans of action/thrillers of appropriate ages.

Not sure why this is 2 books as book 1 is really short and rolls over into book 2

That said I enjoyed this Audio book and having enjoyed the Authors previous debut book I was disappointed with this one so will be on the look out for more.
This book has it all vicious criminals , drug smuggling , a little boy who's life his doting uncle is trying to save and will do everything in his power
A hardened cop working hard to take the criminals down , Lots of twists with great characters
I loved it

🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ Villains were great (layered and multifaceted)
~ Story was layered enough
~ SEVERAL issues to be faced
~ Deaths that make sense

Mitch? Is having a rough go of things. He is on the cusp of losing his job, although he just completed a truly heroic deed. After spending some time with his sister & nephew he develops a deep care for Peter and decides there is more he should try to do to help him… (😬😬😬 tragically)

On the other side of town Doc and his family of miscreants, are doing the most to traffic drugs, remove organs for sale and bribe those that can be bribed… they are also getting a lot of random people killed. Unfortunately Mitch’s path will cross with the Docs and two dogged police officers will make it their mission to find out who has been behind the slew of accidents, deaths, drug heads and drug boobies. 😏

✨𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱.

🌱THE MEH
~ Strangely, some police officers felt somewhat stunted
~ Strangely, the names of the characters didn’t stick although the story did

♡🌱 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲 ;)

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* this would have been better if the books were longer, they feel somewhat rushed or incomplete, they weren't bad but could have been better.

Helping Peter

Mitchell learns that his sister has been in a an accident while drinking at a bar with his friend Wayne. He finds out his Nephew Peter is sick and needs a medication that his sister cannot afford but without his Nephew will die.

There appears to be no way Mitchell can raise the money for the drugs his nephew needs, but then he finds a criminal psychopathic doctor that will give him the drugs for his nephew if he does the doctor a favor. This favor could cost him his own life, or a life in prison.

The only hope Mitchell has is a cop named Betts that is determined to catch him and prosecute him.

The narrator does a good job and the audio book is easy to understand.

This is a book that will keep you reading, it is thrilling and captivating. it will take you where you do not ever want to go and show you things you wish you hadn't seen.

Thanks to Jonathan Macpherson for writing the story, to Tom Campbell for narrating it, to City Beach Books for publishing it and to NetGalley for making it available for me to read and review.

A fast paced, get to it, and move story. There are no cringe-worthy or fluff moments. There is profanity. This is a man book. If I had read this first, I would have gifted this to my father. He would not have shared it with me. I do like a little more background to complete a story. However, this was two books (listed as) and short. It was just okay for me. The premise behind the story kept me going forward. Realistically, I could see real life.

Narrator, Tom Campbell was enjoyable.

Thank you NetGalley and City Beach Books for accepting my request to read and review Betts & Walker Books 1-2.

These books were great! I really enjoyed how all the events ended up being interconnected. I love how much the nephew is loved and how hard everyone works to save him. Watching the growth of the straight and narrow cop turn into the cop who does the right thing even though it's questionably legal-wise was awesome. And I LOVED it when the criminals got theirs! I will definitely be looking for more books by this author! I hope he continues this series.

The prequel novella is filled with action. The plotline follows a drug heist that goes wrong and how the criminals, (both high and low on the totem pole), and the cops respond. This had a very "Reservoir Dogs" feel to it in my opinion.

The book read a lot like an action movie script, very heavy on dialogue and there were plenty of unbelievable moments. Mitch Walker's 6 year old nephew is dying of leukemia. His only chance of survival is an extremely expensive medication that despite fund raising Mitch and his sister aren't even close to being able to afford. Mitch will do anything to save his nephew up to and including smuggling drugs under his scalp. Honestly this wasn't my style, but it may be yours.

Thank you to NetGalley and City Beach Books, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Audiobooks for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I hate to rate a book lower than 3 stars but this one was a 2 star for me. The voices on the audio were almost comical as I'm assuming the narrator was trying to set the characters apart. As far as the story, this book was average in writing and the storyline was just terrible. A drug mule gets caught and all hell breaks loose from there. We follow the criminals, the cops and the moronic victims as they all get entangled together. Not really my style as far as loser criminals go , this shouldn't be classified as a mystery thriller. More like a bad criminal story.
I appreciate the opportunity to listen but will not be continuing this series.

I really enjoyed the Narrator of the audiobook Tom Campbell. He did a marvellous job with all of the different characters.

How far would you go to save someone you love? How far would the "bad guys" go to stop you? I love a quick moving crime book (audiobook) and there were times I had to rewind because I felt I had missed something important. There are two books in this audio book and that is a good thing: I would not have been happy to not have a book 2 to go to after book 1. I liked the characters, but I wish there was a bit more back story. Overall, an engaging book that makes you think, "How far would I go?"

How far would you go to save a life? Slick and thrilling with good characters and plot line. Two books in one, worth a listen.
I received this audiobook from the publishers via Netgalley for a review.

These were interesting listens with a lot of interlinking. However, there were a few times I felt it would be possible to scribble a note. But then, there wouldn't have been a point to the camera, or much less the book. Aside from that, I enjoyed listening to these books.

Narration: 4
Story: 3.75

I enjoyed listening to this book (these books) while working. It was a good crime story about a man and a police officer that have to make difficult decisions to save a child's life. There are some real interesting characters! The narrator gives different voices to different characters which I tend to like especially in conversational scenes. However, not sure if this is unabridged or not but some of the conversation scenes got a little tedious: "yes" character said "why" said different character "because" character said.... "character said" "said character" "character asked", etc, etc, repeated with each small comment/ question or one-word answer; it was annoying and started to sound like too much back and forth for me. This could be how the story is written or just how it is narrated but I struggled to get through those types of situations (I can see the need for a narration to make clear which character is saying what but with the one word back-and-forth, it didn't sound the most enjoyable). Otherwise, this was a good read and I liked also getting the prequel novella along with the novel.
